Best chicken dhansak I have had for a long time. Moist chicken, background heat - very nice. Portion size is ample, served hot and a complimentary popadom.

Potatoes in every dish. Very dry chicken difficult to swallow. Seems to have got not as good as it used to be. Switch to another takeaway restaurant selling Indian food next time. Soggy papadums.

I’ve been getting my take away from here for years. It’s delicious and my favourite curry, the staff are very friendly. The mint (pink) sauce with the pompadoms is a MUST! Also the chicken nawabi is delicious. Enjoy!

I order from Surma regularly with my family however today we did an order and there was a hair in the food and the naan breads were rock hard. This is very disappointing.

Watch what you're spending here as they will try and take advantage given the opportunity. They tried to charge one of my family £24 for the following: - One keema naan bread - Four popadoms - One meat samosa - One mint sauce After she had ordered the food, she informed us of the price. We then rang them and they quickly adjusted the price way down to what it should have been. Also, they tried to offer her a deal whereby if she paid in cash, she would get the order for £20, which is still ridiculously extortionate. It's a disgusting display of bad business where they take advantage of people. They have lost customers in us for life and we will never return here. We cancelled the order. From previous orders, I can tell you that the food is that of a mediocre level and is saturated in ghee. Extremely oily and does not leave a pleasant feeling after consumption. It's just a typical Indian takeaway with not much care implemented in to the cooking. If you are to order from this average (at best) takeaway, be aware as they will clearly try and take advantage if you take your eye off the ball and charge you ridiculously. 100% we will not be returning and there is not a chance that we would recommend this takeaway to anyone.

Absolute con! My daughter called Surma Stevenage up for the following order: x1 Keema Naan Bread x4 Popadom x1 Meat Samosa And Mint Sauce… Your price: £24 You have a lost a customer for life with your attempted and dishonest business practice. Going by your menu, this price does not add up. Even if there were mistakes, this is so far off. Also stating to my daughter that if she “pays in cash, it will be cheaper”. What you tried to do was rip off a young girl. You should feel ashamed! Only when I called you back, was this price addressed, to which I then cancelled! I will be leaving a review everywhere that I can, warning people of this. Ridiculous. Also, this TripAdvisor account is setup as a way in which it portrays itself as an eating-in establishment, of which it is not! This is a takeaway and is misrepresenting itself.

The lady taking our order is very polite and professional, she nearly remembers our order of f the top of her head without me having to say a word, as long as she remembers my 2 Vindaloo sauce. Ordered a take away on New Year’s Eve through on line ordering, was given eta but food turned up an hour an half late. No one would answer the telephone so we didn’t know if food was coming or not and not even a call to say it was late! Shocking service!!

I've been using Surma for many years now. In my opinion, you won't find better Indian food anywhere in Stevenage. Whenever we've got the whole family together it's always people's first choice when it comes to arranging dinner. The range of dishes is impressive and there's plenty to keep the vegetarians happy. All of the vegetable dishes display the same care and attention to detail that the meat dishes receive. Next time you want a takeaway get online or get on the phone and order from Surma. You won't be disappointed.

The food is very inconsistent. We’ve enjoyed many a good meal but also some pretty awful ones too! Tonight’s take-away was simply bland! Very disappointing and we are upset that £35 has been wasted on poor food? It’s time to look elsewhere.

have just had our delivery. was missing a dish. those that arrived were cold. madras was like a cold watery soup. called for 10 minutes to discuss, constantly engaged, no email address to communicate. had much better from you but this will be the last. £35 wasted.

Absolutely stunning food, I had the best chicken madras I have ever had, the onion bargie and samosa as well. Portions were big, so I had some following day, it tasted even better ! Well recommended !

It’s Christmas Eve and we decided to order a curry. It was amazing and delivered hot and on time. If you want a curry delivered this is the place go.

We ordered online with a deliver time of 70 mins. 2hrs later no food. The restaurant said the online estimated time was wrong and not updated. When we spoke to the restaurant they said it would still be 30 mins so we opted to collect it as we had guest over.When we arrived home 1 dish was missing so we called the restaurant and they said they will send it immediately. An hour and a half later still no missing dish so we called them and they seemed oblivious to the missing dish and promise of it being delivered immediately. At this point the guests had left and we said there is not point sending it. The food was nice for the people that received there meal but not impressed with the service and would not order from them again. They said they would give us an extra dish next time we order but sadly we will will not order from their again after our experience.

Large family take away on Saturday food was very good king prawns quality not so good not the correct prawns for Indian curry would happily pay extra for the better Bengali king prawns.

Had heard a lot about Surma, but had never experienced their food. All this changed when my girlfriend and I decided to order a take-away from them for her birthday on Saturday 15th August.I found the whole order process easy and seamless. I phoned my order in, and the person taking the orders was very friendly and helpful. When I had a question about a dish, he gave his adivce and recommendations. After placing the order, he sad how long it would take for the food to be delivered.The delivery driver arrived at exactly the time that I was told. He was very personable, and a fantastic representative of Surma. He saw the birthday cards and banners up, and wished my girlfriend a happy birthday.The food? WOW! It was very tasty and exceeded our expectations. Even now as I type this review, my mouth is salivating with the memories of how good the food was. We will definately be ordering from Surma again.If you are reading this review and debating whether to order from Surma Takeaway. Debate no longer. Order from them. You won't be disappointed!

Sadly Disappointing. Bhuna lacked any real flavour, bland in fact, and the Tikka Masala was overly sweet. Unsure why the food was like it was as in the past it has been really tasty and delicious.

I have been using the Surma Takeaway for over 20 years now and I have never had a meal that wasn’t exceptionally good. Due to this fact I decided to ask Oli if would cook a Kurzi Lamb for my family which isn’t on the menu and Oli agreed. I have had this dish in other restaurants but the one I had from the Surma was amazingly good and by far the best Kurzi I have ever eaten. Thank you so much Oli.

I never complain so please don’t think I enjoy this. I’ve been using the take away 5 years now. I will never be returning as I instructed my order to someone who barely spoke a word of English. When I walked across the road to collect I was told my order was not placed. With a shrug of he’s shoulders told so what. Nice I went next door to the taste of India.

Was a little underwhelming after reading the great reviews. I had lamb Rogan Josh and it was quite bland and meat was chewy. The special fried rice was quite greasy too. The delivery was prompt and driver was lovely.

I always love trying different dishes when ordering from Surma. This time I tried the Muglai Chicken Nawabi (mango and cream number) which was yummy! We enjoy ordering as you can either have something more traditional or experiment with the knowledge that you won't be disappointed. Even my 2-year-old tries the dishes ad clears her plate :)

First time review here... I do not usually do reviews but was so annoyed & upset at this £30 meal that we all felt compelled to. Have ordered several times in the past, had some Ok meals, some not so good. Thought I would give it another go....what a big mistake!!!

The takeaway is conveniently located with parking outside. If you collect and pay by cash, you get 10% off. Service is friendly. Food is very tasty. You can taste the difference ingredients and herbs. I really enjoyed it. Will definitely visit again.

Having lived in Stevenage and close proximity for the past 38 years I can honestly say this is the best place to go for a curry in the local area. Oli is a gent and always accommodates as much as possible. The chicken chilli masala and the chicken Silisala are amazing - good quality food at a reasonable price. Keep up your good work

Well I love my Indian food and this is the first time I have ordered from the Surma the food was delicious 1st class , the portions are excellent and cooked superbly,sparkling flavours and will definitely be ordering from them again. Was delivered bang on time and just can't praise them enough, well done the Surma , looking forward to trying more from your menu excellent in every way.

Tried this Indian takeaway because of the ratings. Food was ok, Naan was stodgy and poppadoms very stale. Food took over an hour to be delivered and was quoted 40 mins

We have had deliveries from Surma for more years than I can remember and do rate their food as among the best in Stevenage. However, their delivery lets them down time and time again. Far too often, food is much later than quoted and this weekend was the last straw. We ordered at 6,20pm on Sunday and very standard meals so nothing complicated. By 7.30pm, (ihr 10mins) the food still had not arrived so rang them to check all was OK and they assured me they were on the way and be here in a minute. 20 mins later... still no food.. called again at 7.50pm (1hr 30mins later) to be told the same - would be here in a min. We eventually got our food at 8,20pm - two hours after we ordered. Only to find that the food was cold and that the poppadoms were shattered to pieces! Had to reheat the food in the microwave to make it edible.

Have ordered from Surma a few times before and always enjoyed our food HOWEVER this weekend we ordered our usual and when dishing up our dinner (different dishes) we noticed watery, pink raw chicken, VERY undercooked! We called surma and they argued very aggressively with us that this couldn’t be the case. I asked for delivery driver to come back and see it for himself, delivery driver arrived and his eyes said it all - he was very shocked and said his boss olly would be very disappointed. They replaced the whole meal however second attempt on one of the chicken dishes was raw again!!!! How it possible to make the same mistake twice ...... surely not.

Have been using Surma for many years now. The food is consistently amazing with a lot of choice. Side dishes are prepared with as much care and attention as the award winning main dishes. I’ve never had a bad experience with this takeaway and feel confident this will continue long into the future. Don’t order from anywhere else if you’re looking for a great Indian takeaway.

Food was okay I guess but nothing to shout home about at all. The fact this is number 1 in Stevenage just highlights how poor the Indian takeaways are here in Stevenage. Having moved here from WGC over a year ago I'm really struggling to find a good Indian after trying various different ones.

Tried this place due to excellent reviews, food promised in 45 minutes and turned up in 70 minutes due to problem with another delivery, then forgot one dish and food not very hot needed to microwave to heat again, I won’t be using again.

We visit Surma on a regular occasion and always receive friendly service and the food is always great. Highly recommended
