During an otherwise fantastic trip to Perranporth, staying at Perran Sands, we decided to take a breakfast at Surf Bay. I'd love to use the word 'enjoyed' but I can't summon up that enthusiasm. I ordered the 'Big Breakfast Bap' - I think it was called. One sausage, sliced in half, plus soggy bacon, on a roll. It almost apologised for itself when it was placed in front of me. My lad ordered bacon and syrup pancakes. Now, I'd expect rashers of crispy, streaky bacon - but today chef decided that this meal might also benefit from limp, just-about-cooked-through back bacon. And my daughter just ordered toast. How chef managed to not even get the toast beyond 'warm bread' is beyond me. I would prefer to suffer from acute malnutrition than eat in here again. Coffee was OK.

If you are eating in perran sands then there are few places to accommodate a large group. Can't fault the service, the staff is friendly and efficient. Food came out in good time. Quality is similar to a wetherspoons, cheap, filling. Don't come expecting anything gourmet.

Right where to start ... Came in today for a breakfast and can not beleive how awful it was and its not even that busy. Poached eggs were solid, bacon was over done, hashbrowns were over done and had been fried in 5 day old oil, fruit salad was pathetic ! I mean i could go on so much more . Its a shame really they could make this place so much better if the time and care was put into this restaurant for this holiday park ! Waste of money wouldnt recommended.

The food was cold and not good, as if cooked on a dirty, burnt grill. No wonder it was empty in the season. The staff, instead of taking care of the guests, told us to order dishes online, where the internet was very poor, and there was practically no guests in the restaurant, only the staff, who could not be seen working

The service was great. The food however was hit and miss, only in the case that the lasagne on the child's menu was an incredibly small serving. Definitely not worth ordering the lasagne as a meal.

Was very disappointed with our meal. Ordered the curry and it was like water with a few cubes of chicken. My son had the kids beef burger and he was only given one half of the burger patty was so dry. We were really looking forward to it, as we have used other Haven sites for their food and it has been wonderful. But this was by far the worst food we've had in a long time. Trying to get the staffs attention was just ridiculous no one asked if everything was okay wouldn't recommend to anyone. And for over £90 was not value for money.

The food was very decent for the price. Took a little while wondering how busy it was, but it wasn't a ridiculous wait. Me personally am not too keen on having to order your food through your phone, but you can order at the bar if there is someone there. One server did forget to bring a spoon even though we asked for one, but she still seemed kind and friendly. Would recommend if its not too busy.

I don’t think I have ever been to any restaurant anywhere that the staff care less about the customers than at Surfbay. To say the staff don’t care is actually an understatement. We often waited at the counter to be seated for an eternity when staff members glance at us but ignore us. When we actually did get their attention and were seated at a table it was always dirty with cutlery missing. Other tables always had uncleared food that had obviously been there for sometime. After waiting the standard 30 minutes for our breakfast the actual food is just about adequate but please don’t expect the order to be correct. Often drinks were not delivered with our breakfast so we would have to hunt down the orange juice and then get told the endless coffee had run out! You couldn’t make this place up!! The staff are miserable, unhelpful, unclean, uneducated and 100% uncaring. We could not see a manager on any of our visits but in our opinion whoever does manage this shambles operation needs to resign. It’s such a shame as it’s a nice building good location and the chefs seem to work hard but the waiting staff are a complete disgrace.

Very, very mediocre food and service on the evening we arrived. Service for breakfast was awful and rude when we tried to just order 4 hot drinks one morning, I was told I'm too busy and to go elsewhere or use one of the Costa machines that were not working!!!

Waited an hour and 15 mins for food when told apprx 45 mins wait for food. Food arrived cold for all 9 of us. When we complained, the food was taken away, but the exact same meals came back unchanged. I had a meat feast platter to share. Started with 6 meatbals in a dish. Once realised it was cold, the same meal came back as I still had 5 meatballs in the dish Cold not replaced. Attitude of staff was they didn't care.

Breakfast, not very busy so expected better. In mo particular order: - no knives on the table - no filter coffee until i asked for it to be refilled - no mushrooms available due to no delivery - scrambled egg was green and made me feel sick, sent back, new breakfast bought out, now with mushrooms - all food was cold (5 plates) - new breakfast although cold was ok, but i couldnt eat the egg...i dont think i ever will again

Had the steak. It was cooked to perfection. Probably one of the best steaks I've had in along time.

Great staff and deceit food. It's a shame the radiators are just for show, the poor staff were freezing while I was able to keep my coat on.

Dark and not easy to see what I was eating had to ask for a table with a light above it a bit gloomy and dark

Our first Time in the food was warm, it was not that busy but it is child friendly. Second visit was not great, opening times were not clear, we walked in as the doors were open, hubby sat at a table to order a coffee, and was rudely told to leave as they were not open till 12.00.

Food was terrible. Scrambled egg looked like egg mayonnaise and smelt of fish. When telling staff I couldn't eat it, she said she knew it was disgusting and told us it came ready made in a carton. She did change it for something else and didn't charge us. We tried other meals but not impressed with anything. You really need to look at your supplier cause you could make more money in long run.

We went as a group of 10, absolutely shocking. They had ran out of half the food items without informing us. 45 minute wait for our starters after a 30 minute wait for the kids food which was supposed to all come out together. Manager hid away and left one of the girls to sort it out. When we sent the food back, it came out either cold or overcooked. I'd avoid.

Garlic bread not crispy No sauce on buttermilk chicken burger Far to much sauce on hunters chicken! And the mixed grill everything over cooked and placed on top of the chips!!! And I had 3 diffent chips fat chips and a thin and a burnt one from last week No one came to see if food with OK and it wasn't even busy! Gross

I'd look at leaving the site and going to a local pub. Foods not good. Don't order kids mac n cheese, it's pasta and flour! Kids eat for a £1 which is all its worth.

Spot on service . Food we had was spot on no faults. Only thing I can pick on is the seating pads need replacing very worn.

Food was OK - Just had mains which were just the same as you would get at any eatery...Brewsters etc. 7 of us ate, 2 had spag bol which was a bit below par. Others said theirs were fine. Service was just to take orders and serve drink and food - no other service was experienced; follow ups etc, more drinks etc...Atmosphere was a little rushed and busy even though the restaurant didnt look that busy and the feel was not helped by the seating arrangements? We had a long table and bench seating setup with ultra high backs?? which felt very rigid and closed-in? There was a singer which we couldn't see from our seating? but from the sound of him, we wasn't missing much...Not sure what kind of vibe he was supposed to be setting 🤔

Avoid , foods awfull over priced aswell , I go to a lot of haven parks this is by far the worsts one iv eaten at

We went here on Sunday and enjoyed a hearty portion of Carvery dinner!! It was very tasty and if I was in the area I would definitely come again. The staff were all great and service was prompt If you sit outside be aware of the seagulls

A shocker, honestly it'll be best to not come here, food was terrible, like truly the worst food I've had for a long time. Ordered a chicken sharer starter which was either overcooked, or cooked in dirty oil as it came out looking like it'd been cooked for 5 months, also just a plate with chicken slapped on it, zero presentation which is fine as long as its good food. The mains came out at the same time, which were disfigured burgers, chips, no coleslaw and just utterly the worst thing slapped and sad looking on a plate. I'd avoid ever coming back here. I'd avoid coming here in the first place. A completely horrific meal. Tiny portions too. Feel like I've had my pants down. For the money you're going to be disappointed.

We only ate there once not the best so we didn't go back.

Lovely dining restaurant. Can take a while for service during busy periods as expected. When approaching staff with an issue they try to resolve as quickly as they can. Food was definitely worth a wait. Kids enjoy sitting in the campervan when available to keep them occupied

Had Sunday roast on 25th June and I can honestly say it was disgusting.The food is extremely bland.Advertised outside on a board and also on the app at 2 for £15 but when paying was told it was 2 for £18 staff very rude when I pointed this out.The food is probably the worst I have ever tasted.The chefs need firing.Tasteless bland under cooked rubbish.Turkey tasted like plastic,mash was watery.yorkshires were soggy.Parsnips were anemic. Brockley was brown.I will never step foot In Surf bay ever again AVOID AT ALL COSTS.Not even worth complaining because in this place they do not care.This establishment should be closed down immediately. Don't get me started on the cleanliness of our caravan.Dirty carpets sofas covered in stains had to put my own duvet ontop of the mattress I dread to think what was in there.Such a let down as this place Is stunning.I would return to perranporth but not perran sands in a million years. If I could turn back time I'd never have booked a stay here

Amazing waitress but all of her co workers couldn't care less about their customers. Food was good but way too expensive for the quality the chips were cold and bland but the burger was amazing food came within 5mins of order.

Overall experience was ok, the pasta tasted cheap with way too many onions. Entertainment was painfully loud and was hard to have a conversation. Drinks were also quite expensive

This is a really nice restaurant to have a meal in with your family or your own..the staff could not have been nicer and more helpful with us. The nicest server was a lady called aimie she was really nice to us

Would not recommend the table service for drinks as I was waiting over a hour for my drink and the restaurant was not full to capacity in the end I had to go up to the bar and ask for it and found very disorganised bar staff and other Customers waiting for their drinks that they had ordered. The food was lukewarm which was a shame as it was well presented was going to send it back but after the fiasco with my drink I decided against it.

Food good value, friendly to all, including dogs, service great without any pressure, drinks reasonably priced with good deals.

Dined here 3 times during our holiday,the food was great everytime. The staff were very welcoming and on hand if we needed them.

Would give it zero if I could, it was that bad! Ate here on our first evening...it was freezing cold with no heating on, not good for my elderly poorly Grandad, then waited almost 2hrs and paid £89 for 6 drinks and 6 meals which were small in size, cold and had hair in the burger! Management couldn't care less, but our young waitress was amazing and tried her best to help us! Fortunately we'd been given food vouchers as way of compensation for already having been messed about with our caravan, but that didn't cover drinks! Needless to say, we didn't eat here again!

Food could do with being hotter but not over cooked staff happy and friendly and bubbly.

Food was terrible, burger came out burnt but only warm with a stale and hard bun and cold onion rings,, the spaghetti bolonagies was only just warm aswell and had to be reheated.. staff was amazing though really helpful

Friendly staff, good food and good atmosphere, only gripe was some food on the menu was not available but thays to be expected as they get so busy.

We found the food microwaved and very slow. It served a purpose but used it once out of an entire weeks stay! Much better places to eat out of the complex. Shame it was very convenient

Very accomadating for dietary needs. Menu not bad. Service was ok. All in all a good place for food. While we were there, a live singer had just started her act.

We stayed at Perran Sands for 6 nights (was meant to be 7 but we left early). On the first night, we had booked a table here in advance (Friday night). When we got there, there were a few people in but most of the tables empty. Gary the manager was pleasant and showed us to the table. Our waitress however, did not seem to know where she was or what she was doing. A few items were not available on the menu, but still had a bit of choice. Our drinks arrived quickish and food not too long a wait BUT it was wrong when it did arrive. We decided not to mention it as it had been a very long drive that day and we were tired and hungry. When we had finished our meal, we waited 30 mins for the plates to be cleared. We had piled them up and pushed them right to the edge and despite our waitress passing our table several times, she didn't clear them. We decided to get up and find the manager, who apologised and seemed quite annoyed at our waitress. He took off some of the drinks and discounted the bill as well. 2 nights after that we went in and asked if we needed to book, Gary (the manager) was there and seemed quite peeved that we hadn't booked in advance. We said we could book a table for later if easier and we could come back. He said it was fine, they had a table but "in future could you please remember to book as we have a skeleton staff and are busy". Well, this was said with a bit of attitude and made us feel unwelcome. He sat us down at a table and handed us the menus, he then reeled off all the items not available (about 80%+ of the menu!) We looked around and there were practically empty so not sure why he was so stressed and saying they were busy. The food was ok, not brilliant but had worse. Service was incredibly slow on both nights and not exactly cheap either. I've worked in and been a manager in the hospitality industry for 10+ years and I have never seen such shocking service. We never went back.

Nice place had meals there but the last one I had the chips was just warm the gammon was hot peas just warm some was cold

Always lovely staff and tasty food. Inside has private booths and outside is sheltered from inclement weather with heaters at every table. Dogs are not allowed inside but are welcome in the covered outside seating. Remember to pre-book if you want to eat in the VW. Very good vegetarian selection. Also, check the very good breakfast and lunch deals.

Took ages to serve the five of us. When we asked they said it was because there was a large number of large parties. This must be a stock response because they really weren't busy. The food was barely warm when it arrived. Meat portion was very small. Some of the veg was barely cooked. Our carvery was completely plated up when the menu promises share plates of vegetables. We were not the only diners unhappy with our meal. Aweful experience.

Absolutely shocking customer service, the bill was wrong both nights that we attended the restaurant, we questioned it but the manager had nothing to say and didnt have a clue how to make it right. The offer was 2 meals for £15 including soft drinks We had two meals that were part of the offer , we didnt have the soft drinks and decided to pay extra for a wine and corona but when the bill came they charged us full price for both and blamed it on the fact that we didnt have the soft drinks ! What difference does it make if we had them and poured them down the toliet or not have them at all, forget the drinks the meals should have been £15 !!! The chef is absolutely wasted at that place as the food is lovely. The staff need to wake up and stop chatting ! The team leader/manager couldnt run a bath never mind a restaurant! We have a 2yo son and were never offered a high chair or kids cutlery... the list goes on ! Really not impressed. Anyone thinking of going here , dont bother !!

Average at best. Ordered buttermilk chicken, was supposed to come with rustic fries instead it came with cold chips out of a hot counter. Burger bun didn’t hold together well and it’s saving grace was the chicken. Service by the waitresses was fine, but overall experience was well below par for a ‘surf shack, vibe when in actual fact there was no vibe atall. Won’t be using it again, £33 pound for two meals really wasn’t worth it.

Greeted with a limited menu and a 45 to 50 minute wait time for mains was not feeling positive. Starters arrived promptly and was delicious. Main courses arrived shortly after and again was very delious and very big portions .had a great drink selection especially the twin fin rum was lovely .overall great value and friendly staff .

Lovely and food service was the best

The things corporate management can't mess up are good - there is plenty of space and is nicely designed. Staff are polite and helpful. Unfortunately, the fast food junk they're asked to serve is for emergencies only. Drink selection is poor. Rather than play songs in the background, they hire a local signer to destroy them at high volume. Obviously over priced.

We want several times and the service was mixed. It was extremely slow one day (it took about 20 minutes for them to take away our plates) whereas another day was very good service. They are under staffed which is why even if you have trouble booking there are still lots of tables empty. The food was good. Some of the seafood items were unavailable (eg no mussels).

Came here yesterday was served by a lady called Lily who I admit goes beyond more then anything. Order our meals for 4 adults and 2 children. One of our party ordered the lasagne which wasn't to clever and abit dry. Lily noticed it was left on the table she asked was everything okay we told her about the lasagne without hesitation she replaced the lasagne with a fish and chips. I'm amazed about the quality of service from this place after reading other reviews as they clearly nothing to what I seen in there. The food was absolutely amazing, very fresh and fantastic sized portions. Staff was also extremely friendly. I would HIGHLY recommend this place for there food expecially the fish and chips as its 1000 times better then the chip shop facing it which is dry and very over priced for the quality you get out of there. Great food, great place and very clean. Il be back again 100%. And thankyou to Lily for her hospitality.

Quarter of menu unavailable such as mussels and fish but it literally less than a mile away from the sea, wine glasses were plastic and the ice tea was fizzy. And left some things dishes that were “sold out” even though the opened from after lunch an hour ago, food was just above average though.

Waited over 20 minutes for drinks to arrive to the table from ordering. Waited over an hour for food to arrive only to get cold chips cold mushrooms and cold peas served with our steak and gammon meals. Steak was cooked ok and so was the gammon.Service was very slow. Would not recommend this restaurant. Wont be eating in this restaurant again.

Booked for my bday as a treat. Lots of dishes were not even avaible. Drinks not tasty, not garnished with lemon or mint like menu states , not worth the money. I'm not reccomending this place.

Visited this place a lot over the years and always been pleased . This time however, very poor service , half the menu not available. Waited over an hour for 1 course meal to be served (and we chased for it otherwise would have been longer )and was told it’s just been a busy evening and a poor night to visit . Food also was not that great. Would not return .

Great food lovely staff very pricey

Waited over 30 minutes for drinks despite asking where it was several times and being told it was on it's way and waited an hour for our food which frankly was pretty mediocre. Maybe because it's first week of holidays but seriously hope they get there act together for the rest of the season. I noticed it obviously wasn't just us others were waiting ages as well. And it wasn't like it was really that busy. Every other table was empty. Won't be coming back on this stay for sure

Update from my previous years review. What a dive off a cliff. Save your cash, go to the New Inn down the road. Better quality and a much better price. Locals all really friendly, good food and great atmosphere

Went for breakfast this morning. 6 adults, 4 kids. Walked in at 3 minutes to 9 as table was booked for 9, was told to wait outside. Once in, and seated, had no service until 9.20. Upon ordering, there was no fruit, no yoghurt ( which makes up most of the menu and what all our children wanted), ordered extra mushrooms on a small breakfast, the amount of pepper blew your head off. The tray they brought our drinks over to us on was filthy. They brought all the food out together but forgot they left one of our meals on the table behind, so made a "fresh" one... which was brought to us within 30 seconds so not entirely sure how "fresh" it was. Won't be eating here again this holiday.

Avoid was the worst food I have ever eaten. The lasagne was literally just pasta sheets no taste worst microwaved ready meal I have ever tasted

Visited Saturday 21st May around 1530 would of given 1 star if the food hadn't of been as good as it was overall I found it quiet pricey but when the foods good you don't mind, service was shocking the waiting staff was more interested in chatting too there co workers then serving customers had 10 mins too look over menu (perfect) took our drinks and food order we waited 20mins for the drinks too arrive then a further 25 minutes for the food too arrive, its quiet a large venue but was extremely quiet. Usually someone would come shortly after the food and ask if everything is ok. They didn't. Once finished with our meal we waited another 15mins still no staff. Ended up going over too the bar to pay. I was asked how our meal was and told her the above, she seemed sympathetic and apologied like she was aware of the service issue. We're here for 2 weeks and would of probably ate there 3 or 4 times on our stay. However due too the poor service we won't be. Could be a 1 off but for £58 (2 adults 2 children) I won't be risking it.

Went here while away on Perensands for my birthday tea.well underwhelmed would be the words to use ordered mixed grill lamb chop not cooked,steak was not what i ordered.Also should have had a egg on meal no egg,chicken should have come with mixed grill too that was not on my partners order. I can remember it being Good a while back but in all honesty would have been better to get something and cook it in the caravan.service was ok but when we went in they said what was not on menu too guessing they were not having a good night. All in all a very expensive meal that underwhelmed.

Fantastic restaurant!! Spotlessly clean and the staff were very attentive, helpful and patient with us (we were a party of 17 guests for an 11th birthday party). The food was excellent and again, the staff made us aware of anything that was off the menu before we ordered. Loved the decor and especially the campervan you can eat your meal in!!

ordered a well done steak and this is what i got, very expensive for what you get burger was very chewy no salt no ketchup or anything set up on the tables very very poor!

Great friendly staff nice place but a little pricey. This is what most likely keeps the punter's fron re visiting over 5 ponds a pint and 21 quid for a mixed grill. Work on the pricing a your ace would have a captive audience 7 days a week.

Fab food, fab service! Although there was a bit of a wait to be seated and for food, it’s well worth it. Gary the restaurant manager is absolutely brilliant, cares for customer needs as well as the staff. The waiting staff are all lovely, polite, helpful and serve with a smile. This restaurant is an asset to Perran Sands and I cannot wait to visit again!

Great welcome and service, required disabled access table, nothing too much effort. Great tasting food and drinks.. Bar service for drinks needs a little attention. Will certainly come again.

Just not that impressive sadly I would definitely avoid and go to the chip shop or travel further out for food staff were nice and a bit forgetful

We were always able to get a table, even if the app said it was booked we'd walk in (in the day) and see if they had any tables in the evening and was always able to squeeze us in, one very busy evening our toddler knocked our drinks over and it absolutely soaked the material seats we were on... At this point every table was occupied.. luckily Alfie the VW was available to eat in so we enjoyed our meal inside the van. Staff were always friendly and happy to help

We had a table for 9 people and we thought the food was lovely a couple of us has the Sunday roast and we were very happy with it and would have it again overall very enjoyable and the waitress service was very good.will visit again this week.
