Sunya Chinese Cuisine in Greenwich

Fully reopened after lockdown when only the take-away was serving, Sun Ya is better than ever. A younger generation are now in charge of this Family restaurant and (no disrespect to the elders) both food and customer care are excellent. Great value for food and wine too. A great place for both last minute meals for the two of us and for three-generation family parties. We’re lucky to have it as our local.

Gone completely down hill since new owners took over I asked them when did it change hands and told bare faced lie that it hadn’t changed hands I said but you have completely new staff , liars and food terrible avoid.

Used to be very decent Chinese. Been regulars since 2009/2010. Since changed hands the food went WAY DOWN, unfortunately. Tastes of nothing/very bland. No response to our feedback sent… We get our Chinese elsewhere now.

Looked up the menu on line and walked to the restaurant to find it only serves take away. The website did NOT say this which did not help since we walked for 20 mins one way!!! Needs to update the website so they don't waste peoples time!!

The food in this restaurant has always been of a superior quality and the service is exceptional. They have been part of the the local community for a long time and have provided consistent service. We just ate a wonderful takeaway. We are very happy they are still serving us with great food with a smile.

My family and I have been eating at this restaurant for around ten years and the food standard is always high. The food is the best value for money I have seen for a while and the staff are always attentive with crackers and fortune cookies. Even when having a takeaway, their service and standard never drops. They have such a range of food on offer and I will never order Chinese food anywhere else!

Definitely wont use again they dont take card unless you spend over £10.00 i was told then when we got home with the food and we live less than two minutes walk away it was cold and really really greasy wouldn’t recommend and overpriced for the quality.

We have been visiting here for years. The all you can eat menu is great value for money and always delicious. The sizzling steak is always a favourite. Staff are super, always attentive and couldn't do more to help. Absolutely this is a gem.

Planned to eat elsewhere, but restaurant was closed for refurbishment. Found Sun Ya on line (we were looking for Chinese buffet), and turned up (5 adults and 5 children) to find a very warm welcome and readily fitted us in. Had buffet (all cooked fresh), and after starters and duck and pancakes, had difficulty getting through ordered mains. Not the best Chinese food we've ever eaten, but certainly acceptable, and staff were happy to provide other things (like chips for the kids). Best aspect was the friendly, attentive and helpful staff - they made our family celebration special. Kids especially appreciated the lollies, fortune cookies and mints! Will be very happy to make a return visit (preferably for adults-only meal this time!)

Servers are very wonderful and the service was brilliant! The food was very well cooked and tasted great!

Friendly. Lovely food. Can have choice of set buffet weekdays which is nice. Selection of starters then duck or lamb pancakes then you choose as many dishes as you like after that. All for a set price.

My husband and I were tired, frazzled and VERY hungry when we arrived at Sunya Restaurant on Friday, 26 October 2018. Suddenly, an inviting, warm atmosphere and the friendly greeting of our waiter, “Eddie”, helped us relax and we settled down to read the extensive menu. Between us, we ordered Butterfly King Prawns, Cantonese Roast Duck sliced on a bed of bean shoots with soy sauce, Vegetarian Pak Choi with garlic sauce, Stir Fried Mixed Vegetables, Mixed Vegetables Chow Mein and Egg Fried Rice. Everything was delicious, but the three outstanding dishes were the Duck, the Pak Choi and the Stir Fried Mixed Vegetables. I’d happily eat that Pak Choi dish regularly for the rest of my life! We had had an “elegant sufficiency” after we finished all we had ordered, and there had been NO pressure to finish our meal, despite the restaurant becoming very busy (Sunya has a very loyal, local clientele and they eat later in the evening than the visitors, as a rule). We had a pot of jasmine tea and felt that unmistakable, incomparable feeling of well-being and peace which made this experience a high point of our weekend in London. A few more vegetables in the Chow Mein would bring this review up to a full 5 stars. Definitely worth a visit. And there’s a (very popular) takeaway!

I live in the area and visit Sun Ya every now and then. The food is nice, but nothing special. I wouldn't go here for a celebration meal, but it's a great place to just pick up some food on the way home. Staff friendly and helpful. Keep in mind that minimum card spend is £10 (but there is an ATM outside). Plenty of vegetarian options which is great!

Sorry, but I had to go back to my previous review and feel the need to apologise if I have led anyone astray! Tried this place again and had a pretty awful meal. It is not often you associate chinese food with crude yet bland offerings but that was exactly what was served up. Disappointing is not the word. I read other reviews which were positive, but this restaurant is no advertisement for chinese cuisine. Indeed, it will take a while to build up courage to head for another chinese meal so poor was this one!

I have been a customer of Sunya for about 8 years, and have spent thousands of pounds cumulative at their establishment over this time. I went in on a Friday evening (20th July) to order off their 'meal for one' menu, only they refused to take my card because the 'meal for one' does not meet their minimum spend requirements of £10. I had no cash. Rather than make a fuss in front of the waiting customers, I politely cancelled the order and left somewhat annoyed. I called about ten minutes later, to express my disappointment and explained how shortsighted this policy is, and even how many times I have paid on card there for sub £10 orders. The staff member I had interacted with was not interested in listening to this, and she became very aggressive and rather rude, saying I should have read the sign and it is her bosses' policy and they have to pay 'transaction fees'. She was not at all concerned in the fact I had been a regular customer for 8 years, nor was concerned that they were potentially losing my continued custom. So I shall not be going back, in future i will order from another chinese restaurant in Greenwich and they can safely keep their transaction fees from me at zero. If you think local businesses should value local repeat customers, this establishment will disappoint; they are quite mercenary. Enjoy.
