Sunu’s kitchen in Tendring

Great curry house; the Pathia, Sag Aloo and various nans are really something special. Staff are excellent - the owner is v helpful with advice as to what's different menu-wise if you're a curry creature of habit like me. Recommended a lamb dish to a friend which was thoroughly enjoyed. Would recommend to anyone, and remember to book if you're planning a weekend visit!

Ordered from here spent £55 on the food for the chicken to be also tough can barely chew. The chips where soggy Chicken tikka masala looked watered down Chicken also pink

Had Sag Punir which is more like desert. The sag punir never have sweetness in it. It is simply Spinch and cottage cheese with garlic and other herbs but certainly not sweetness like desert which I experienced. Very dispointing. Never recommend to anyone.

Great food, good service, waiters were very nice. Food was not too spicy which meant it was very enjoyable and the prices were very reasonable. We had popadoms, two starters, two mains and a bottle of wine and the bill came to just under £70. They have made the place look presentable, clean and welcoming. We enjoyed our visit and would return again. Dishes recommended: Starters - Onion bahjis, Chicken and pancake(unsure of the name) Mains - Chicken dansak, Chicken Balti Drink - Sauvignon Blanc

We visited whilst we stayed at the spa we walked here which stook 20 mins. We visited because of the reviews and we can't wait to go back. The food was beautifully fresh and authentic. I highly recommend.

We had the most delicious take away from Sunu’s last night. It’s the first time we’ve ordered online and it was so easy to do. The food turned up piping hot at exactly the time it was promised. My chicken tikka korma was the best I’ve ever tasted, tender chunks of meat in a delicious sauce. Hubby’s tikka masala was also amazing. Will definitely order again!…

Great little fined unusual little cottage turned into a top Indian restaurant. Great food recommend by a very welcoming head of service. The chutney was awesome with my popadoms had Boti kebab starter and Khala lamb main both 10out of ten and I have had my fair amount of curries in my time . Away on business if in the area would definitely come back

If you are a true lover of AMAZING Indian food then look no further. Chef Sunu’s food is way above and beyond a typically good UK Indian restaurant. This is closer to fine dining but with generous portions. Even the basic curries are exquisitely next level. Staff are always kind and friendly too. I do a 40 mile round trip for a take away, which speaks for itself. This place is best Indian for miles! Treat yourself!

This is our second time having dinner here, both times the food and service has been amazing, such a customer orentiated restaurant! the staff are extremely accommodating and polite, we were given a couple complimentary dishes from the manager, this is definitely our new go to Indian restaurant.

We’ve now been to this restaurant 4 times and loved it every single time the food is outstanding and definitely the best I’ve tried and the service is excellent everyone is very friendly we even got samosas on the house with our dinner this evening and they even get the door for you as you are leaving and thank you for coming! In this day and age it’s so lovely to see such wonderful manners

Delicious food in a beautiful old building. A really big menu and some more unusual dishes to try. Khala bhuna was really tender lamb and Subzi naan were new to me and both were really tasty.

Had takeaway delivery I can honestly say that was the best curry I’ve had for a very long time. Everything cooked very well, and a paratha to die for. Very well done

I’ve eaten in dozens of top rated curry houses , this place is TOP OF THE LIST , eaten here many times , had several take aways too, the food is the best I have ever eaten, you will not find a better curry anywhere, consistently good, never had any issues with the food, worth every penny I’ve spent in this establishment, standards never drop here, yes you sometimes have to wait , but good food come to those who wait , all I can say is, don’t matter if you live in Frinton or st osyths , please make the trip, my wife and I have to limit ourselves to twice a month , to be honest I’d eat here every day if I could

This is the most amazing place. I have eaten chicken jalfrezi all around Essex and without a doubt this is the best. I don't usually leave reviews but it would have been an injustice not to.

Delicious meal. We had lemon chicken tikka, prawn tikka, rice and pashwari naan. Poppadoms to start were lovely. All food fresh and not at all greasy. Very flavoursome and at just over £20 a head including a drink we were delighted.

Found it hit and miss. 2 meals from 5 were great. Meat was tough on one and had to send it back,. Some chicken not cooked thoroughly on another. Tikka was salty according to my daughter. Bombay aloo was what looked like mini new roast potatoes. No sauce... just a bit of oil and a little seasoned. Staff were very good but the food issues spoiled a nice family get together

A really lovely dinner on Valentine’s Day. We were pleasantly surprised by the food, it tasted really fresh and we liked the added touch of pomegranate seeds in the rice. We went for a chicken tikka masala, it was rich, creamy and full of flavour. We also had the lamb tikka madras which had a kick, it had fresh chilli’s and herbs in the sauce too. The peahwari naan, coconut rice and onion bhajis were all spot on. We found it to be reasonably priced and the service couldn’t be faulted. Thanks for a lovely meal!

Delicious, high quality and creative food, coconut rice had fresh grated coconut throughout and was so fluffy. Friendly and welcoming staff who went the extra mile. Even got a fresh rose for valentine's day🌹 highly recommend and cannot wait to visit again.

A gem of a restaurant that should be frequented as often as you possibly can. Chef’s specials are refreshingly different with great flavours. Service is hospitable as though they are greeting old friends.

We wanted to go for a nice meal and have a fetch up. This is the fourth time I have been here and, as usual, the food was excellent. Very flavoursome. Not rushed in between courses. Would certainly recommend it.

Our first visit! Despite booking, we were given an unprepared table. The interior was nice but the greeting was unwelcoming. The staff were quick at providing poppadoms and drinks but were slow to provide cutlery. The starter course was satisfactory but the main courses were a disappointment, bland without the key flavours we expect with this cuisine and a mistake was made with the order. However, this was reasonably quickly rectified. There was a general lack of sauces with the dishes and the first time I’ve ever had Bombay Aloo with potatoes with the skins on, which may be the restaurant’s style but again it was bland and not to our expectation. We found that the staff were inattentive to the point of ignoring us. No checking that all was ok or whether any more drinks were wanted. The man who appeared to be in charge was particularly aloof. We welcome new places to eat locally but won’t be going back soon as there are much better Indian restaurants in Tendring

To be honest I was on route back from my normal Indian when I discovered I needed more food but was to far away and was passing through Thorpe so I thought I would try this Indian which I had heard good reviews about furthermore I proceeded to order 3 simple dishes,a korma, Nan and a pillar rice at 6:40 and was told 20mins; baring in mind this was perfect as it would only mean a ten min wait by the time I arrived as I had food in the motor,once arrived at the restaurant I felt as though they were more concerned with the people eating in rather than there takeaway customers even trying to strike a convo but nothing…I might have just sent a postcard to the family as I didn’t think I’d be returning home that night may have brought a blanket and a pillow and became apart of the furniture basically forty minutes passed and then after complaining and asking for my food you may aswell call the waiter hoodini as he’s pulled my food out of nowhere 🪄will not be returning

Just found the best Indian cuisine in the Clacton area after trying all the poor quality others. This restaurant caters for high quality food, ,and is excellently presented and prepared. The staff were very attentive but discreet, and the flavours were superb. The prices are fair based on the quality and quantity offered. This is not an ordinary restaurant but a great one for the best Indian meal around.

We have just found the most excellent India restaurant in the area, called Sunu’s Kitchen. It is by far the best quality Indian cuisine on offer in the Clacton area. The staff are very attentive but discreet, the portions are large, but the flavours are wonderful. Not creasy or dry. This is a venue to visit if you enjoy wonderful Indian food.

We took a large family party for a family meal. The service was very poor and slow. Several parties who arrived after us were served before. We had to wait for drinks . Hot plates were handed out and we were expectant… they had gone cold before any food appeared. The food was ok, nothing special. The man who appeared to be in charge was offhand and mildly rude. We were sat in front of a smashed window and it was cold. When it was time to pay we were told it was cash or a bank transfer, which you don’t expect. It became a real palaver as the bill was over £500 and I don’t carry that much cash. I had to pay an individual rather than a business which seemed rather odd. It really spoiled my evening. It’s no way to run a business which I told them. Don’t start me on the car park , which is a potholed drive to a building site!

Just had a Christmas eve takeaway, this was the best King Prawn Tandoori with extras I've had. I have heard a few stories that sit down service is very slow but takeaway was excellent about 35 minutes. Sort the table service out and without doubt will be the best curry house in Tendring.

Six of us dined here. Food was nice but small portion sizes and way over priced! The service was slow and extremely poor. The gut that appeared to be managing was quite abrupt and inpersonal. At the end of our meal we were presented with a bill and told cash only or Bank Transfer to a personal account! We will not be returning.

We went along the High Street looking for somewhere to eat. It was a Tuesday night and unsurprisingly everywhere seemed quiet till we got to Sunu’s Kitchen. About 5 tables were taken already and we did well getting in just ahead of a large party....

We really enjoyed the meal here, excellent portion, good amount of chicken. The rice was lovely and fluffy and the peshwari naan was delicious!

Such a lovely night with excellent food on a Monday night. ( 27th Nov 23) The staff were fabulous, the atmosphere filled with lots of laughter, thank you to all concerned. Especially to a great bunch of people we shared our night with.

We enjoyed our evening in Sunu's Kitchen, Thorpe le Soken. Great service, fabulous food a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Please note, if you are over 6' tall do mind your head throughout the dining area as the beams are very low. Toilets could probably do with an upgrade. Oh and payment is by bank transfer rather than standard card payment, but these are minor points in an otherwise great evening. Thank you Sunu's Kitchen we will be back.

Had a meal here the other night with my family, was absolutely lovely. All the staff are so friendly and polite. The food is lovely and fresh, would definitely recommend. Lovely little set up.

I went to this restaurant on the recommendation of friends and was delighted with the quality, freshness and variety of the food on offer. From the outside the premises appear diminutive, appearances however can be misleading as the interior was Tardis like with plenty of seating. Service was generally excellent and the wait staff attentive without being over zealous. The menu that is given to you is rather basic, comprising a clipboard with a piece of paper folded in half and the various dishes listed thereon. Some of the specialist items could do with a description of what comprises the dish as we found ourselves having to ask staff. Our table of four was, we felt, overlooked as another table of four seated adjacent to us arrived after we did but ordered and received their food well before us. That said, each dish was distinctive, unlike some Indian restaurants where things can taste very similar, but more importantly tasty and plentiful. The meal was also good value and we shall return in the not to distant future.

Nice food but did not advise us that their card machine wasn't working and hadn't been for over a week. So told to go find a cash machine! Finally managed to pay by bank transfer - really shoddy practice not telling us at the start!!

I ate here last night with a friend. I cannot express how lovely the food is. I had a chicken Korai and my friend had Chicken Korma and we both had Cauliflower Bahji. It was gorgeous. The food was fresh and bursting with flavour. I used to go to the East End of London if I wanted what I would call a really good Indian meal. This is better than any I have eaten anywhere, ever!! The staff are as lovely as the food! Friendly and make you feel really welcome as though you have known them for years. I hope they are here to stay. Will be going back very soon.

Booked a table for yesterday and got a call an hour before to tell me they overbooked. It was not even compassionate just a basic oh sorry we have cancelled your booking as we over booked. Do you want to book for tomorrow??? I said we all ready to leave in 20 minutes and your telling me now that I have no booking! He said yea is that ok? I said no it isn’t ok he said is it fine I said no it isn’t fine. So he said I could book for tomorrow if I wanted . I said I wouldn’t be booking ever again. We managed to get into the Golden Curry in clacton and it was amazing. 5 star and so accommodating and good food and good customer service

Booked a table a week in advance. Checked booking on the day - all ok then had a phone call an hour before we were due to go to say they couldn't honour it as they had overbooked. Very poor management. Doesn't bode well for a new eatery. 🙁

Went with friends for evening meal. Very friendly service and fantastic food, using fresh ingredients.

Had a decent meal with friends at Sunu's. Food was very good and well-priced; for three of us including two poppadums, a main, shared rice and two large Cobras each worked out at £33 per person - including a tip. That's not bad at all. The restaurant was busy which is a good sign and only a slightly untidy toilet (missing handwash) let it down, but I'd visit again.

Without doubt One of the best Indian cuisine restaurants we have ever visited. The manager Jewel from our entrance to our exit made our experience very memorable. The service was exceptional, and the food was first class. Will definitely revisit. Absolutely 5 star.

Superb meal had here mid week in August. Service 2nd to none, food gets top marks. Slight variations to the usual fayre make the dishes stand out. Lovely, lovely flavours.

If I could give more stars, I would. Amazing little gem. Indian food like you've ever tasted before & that is coming from an Indian. Value for money. Good authentic curries but also some dishes with some delicious twists, like the kafir lime in roasted vegetable biryani or the sag beesi with fresh spinach & peas. Good veggie options & vegan options available. Best garlic ,chilli, coriander nan. Lovely surroundings as you enter which sets the mood. Lovely old building with good ambience. Separate clean toilets for men & women.

Ordered delivery....1st time we tried this new indian restaurant i have to honest, dry bhajis, peshwanis and meat. Gave them a second chance as they were new 3 months later and omg!
