Sun Inn Pooley Bridge in Eden

Arrived in the bar at around 7.20pm on a Wednesday and my family and I waited to be seen to by someone. At around 7.25pm we were attended to. We said we were looking for a table for 3 for dinner and were told that they stopped taking orders for food at 7.30pm and so were summarily dismissed. No apology, no would you like to have a drink, the server just walked off. Unsurprisingly, we didn’t stay for a drink and won’t be eating here whilst we are here on our break either.

We ate at The Sun Inn one night on a recent break to Pooley Bridge. Despite it being very busy we manage to get a table. The staff were friendly, even though they were so busy. The food was fine, lamb shank and fish pie. We also ordered an apple crumble for dessert but had to send it back as it hadn't been warmed up before service, but that was soon dealt with.

The Sun Inn in Pooley Bridge is a delightful spot with great food and wonderful hospitality. The menu offers a delicious variety of well-prepared dishes that are sure to please any palate. Special thanks to Andrew and Amber for their exceptional service, making our visit truly memorable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!

Called in for lunch, was greeted quickly and seated. Menu varied, food was delicious, fish and chips were fab. Plenty of outside seating too, for people with kids and dogs to enjoy.

I asked for a bowl of chips. I was given a very small bowl of fries. I was charged almost £5. It's a rip off. I'll never go here again.

Spent two nights at the Sun Inn. Our room (2) was small but very comfortable; tea/coffee making facilities, decent biscuits, and plenty of coat hangers in the wardrobe. A generous sized en-suite with walk-in shower and good quality toiletries. We ate both nights at the Sun Inn. The food is good value, generous and above all very tasty (homemade curry, homemade steak pie, hotdog and homemade pizza). We thoroughly enjoyed all that we had. Breakfasts (ordered the night before) are superb with much to choose from. While the smoked haddock is good they excell at the full English - superb quality ingredients, cooked well. The stand-out for both of us were the staff. Andy behind the bar looked after us very well, as did owners Wendy and Andrew. There were a couple of others whose names I didn't catch (one who cooked our first night dinners, and the woman who served our breakfast on the first morning). We called in at the other two pubs in the village for a drink, both of which also do rooms and food, and we both agreed we'd made the right choice. It's a proper, traditional family run pub. Long may it continue. Hope to see you again in September (once the schools have gone back 😉). Thank you for a lovely stay.

We lost our dog on one of the fells, after hours of looking, we had to stop, get some charge in our phones and call for help. Gordon (flash) helped us with a charger, posted on the local social media pages and did everything he could to calm us down. We ate there twice over 2 days and they were incredible with us. When we found our lost dog (Hattie) we went back and Gordon sat us by the fire and brought us some fantastic food. These guys are awesome.

We stayed 1 night here and had an evening meal. The food was lovely the best steak and ale pie I have had for a long time! The pub was welcoming, plenty of staff, clean and tidy. The room was sufficient they put a camp bed in the room for our toddler. Our room was above the kitchen so it was noisy until around 9 pm and from 6 30 but that's unavoidable. Which brings us on to the breakfast great choice freshly cooked and gorgeous. Easy check in check out too.

Went away for the weekend to celebrate a birthday. Decided to stop in Pooley Bridge as it is close to the Ullswater ferry & not too far from the M6 making it convenient. After a lovely day walking in the area we arrived at the hotel to be welcomed by a cheerful man who then showed us to our room for the night- all looked good & spacious. After a brew- nice biscuits, we went down for tea in the dining room- lovely meals, fish pie & steak pie. Food was excellent & would recommend. We then sat in a very warm lounge for the rest of the evening, bench seats a bit narrow but added to the atmosphere. Bed time, now very tired, we got into our double bed & found it sloping back to the pillows. There was a very deep ridge & you could feel a bar across. Closer inspection found the base was broken The mattress was sunk inside it. Not very comfortable at all. We were unable to report it that night as the reception & bar were closed so no available staff. We were also told when we arrived we were allocated the last of the double rooms so nowhere to move to anyway. After a lovely breakfast we checked out telling the reception lady/manager we had not slept well due to the broken bed. Her reply was sorry about that we are putting a new bed in there next week- very lame attitude, didn't really seem to care. New bed coming so she must have been aware! It would have been nice to have been told beforehand- much as I wanted a double bed, we would have preferred twin beds in this situation, & she was aware! Closer inspection of the room we noted a small amount of mould in the corner or the shower, skirtings were dusty- just needed a wipe with a damp cloth!!! Under the bed was heavy dust & this had not been moved in a very long time. decoration wise it looked as though it had been refurbished, maybe 6 month ago, just not kept up the new changes. Overall, a lovely cosy pub with great food. Accomodation for us was very unsatisfactory & we are unlikely to stop there again, using another hotel in the village next time.

This is truly a family traditional Pub, Hotel/B & B/ restaurant If you are going to the lake district, seriously consider the Sun Inn as your base. Just the breakfast alone is fantastic - local food freshly cooked brilliant. Substantially cheaper than hotels less than six miles or so away in Penrith - and ten times a better atmosphere. This style of hotel/pub is truly a dying breed, great value for money - lovely staff They really do make an effort.

Stayed at Sun Inn for one night & had evening meal hear also. Staff very friendly, pub was full of diners , very popular, good atmosphere, roaring fire, 3 separate areas to eat and drink, our rooms were a good standard. Our meals were lovely - lots of choice and traditional Lakes pub feel. Service was very good & landlord was welcoming & down to earth and a character. Thank you for looking after us. One of the warmest and cosiest pubs ever and thats not just temperature, but the welcome!! We visited on Saturday evening, it was cold outside and we were lucky enough to stop at this traditional village pub. When we arrived, it was busy but Gordon made sure we made very welcome and found us a table in front of the lovely fire. He went over and above to make our experience a good one. The other staff are positive, helpful and friendly too. The food is traditional, well cooked and very tasty! This chap knows how to keep beer too, GREAT pint, lovely wine, positive, friendly vibe could not fault our evening - other pub hosts could learn from a visit here!!

Simply awful. Went for a veggie Sunday lunch - got a Mediterranean pasty with cold hard veg. Mashed potatoes with a kind of skin on and an almost solid lump of ‘gravy’.
