Sun Do in Sevenoaks

I had a bad experience at the restaurant yesterday afternoon. One of the waiters (a male with a bow tie) was very rude to us and made us feel very uncomfortable. After we requested another waiter, a young lady came and was very nice, so the stars are for her. The food wasn't bad, but the service was.

Food great, but the staff were rude and uninviting.

Excellent food and very kindly gave my daughter a beautiful silk scarf as it was her birthday .

The food was really bad , chicken we ordered came red from inside it was raw .

If you want decent food but absolutely terrible service from rude staff then this is the place for you!

Very nice food, good service as has been since I can remember; 30 years or so.

Just ate here with my parents and the food is lovely, scenery is nice. We were seated next to the kitchen so it was quite noisy. One of our waiters was quite grumpy and would groan every time he had to take plates from us, which I will say wasn’t often as they walked past empty plates. Our other waitress was very nice and very helpful, thank you whoever you are. Bill was reasonable for the food we had. Might come again?

Myself and my husband went to Sun Do this evening. Whilst the food was nice our experience and the service that we received was not. The staff were rude and unwelcoming and ignored our empty plates and didn’t speak to us when they cleared the table. When my husband went to pay on card they delayed bringing over the card machine, when they did they where quick to tell us there is no service charge on the bill. Our bill came to £76 (for 2 people with no alcoholic drinks) so my husband said round it up to £80. The waiter laughed and said don’t worry about it as if it wasn’t good enough adding £4 onto our bill. Myself and my husband left feeling unwelcome and will not be coming back to this resturant. Very rude staff.

We hadn't been to Sun do for years but since visited twice in 3 weeks the food is excellent you just know from the first taste these guys know their stuff we had crab sweetcorn soup crispy duck pancakes followed by seafood platter and pork in barbecue sauce special fried egg rice with pineapple can't fault it definitely not your average Chinese. I noticed comments about the male waiter yes he is not the most user friendly but sometimes that can be part of the Chinese culture (go to China Town in London) Often the same trait of character it's sometimes part of the experience go with it and relax. We nicknamed him the Android robot the lady waitress was very smiley definitely be going back.

Great food, quick service waiters were cool!

Excellent food Good service ,very nice lady server Atmosphere ok for a lunch time visit. My only criticism is that 10% service charge was added to my bill. Which I didnot have a problem with. However when I was given the bill there was no complimentary chocolate or mint . I just feel if a restaurant wishes to add a service charge the least they can offer in return would be a chocolate or mint or fortune cookie in return. It is for this reason only that I have not given a five star review

I feel that the Sun Do is trading on past glory. I for one will never return to this restaurant. It started with the phone call to book. It was answered by a very abrupt man that made me feel I was interrupting him from doing something far more important and did not want to be disturbed by a paying customer. He hung up without even saying goodbye just as I was in the middle of asking a question! The food was shockingly bad. Bone dry and tasteless. All of the dishes were below par. It was a fantastic place to go but is now run by rude staff who couldn't care less about their level of service or food cooked. It is a real shame.

Unfortunately it was not the food that let this restaurant down but the male server that was instantly rude the minute we sat down. He then got one of our orders wrong and when we pointed this out,he muttered under his breath that this was our fault. Thankfully a lovely waitress stepped in but an evening of celebration was spoilt.

Definitely the best Chinese restaurant in the area. Food fresh and piping hot, served in very reasonable time. All the waitresses are friendly and always smile. We also met the “legendary” waiter who is overly focused on his work, didn’t communicate well, but that’s all. Overall a very pleasant and satisfying dining experience.

Sun Do was our local when we lived In Sevenoaks. We hadn’t been there for ten years until this evening, when I went with my son. The food was unchanged, simply excellent. Fresh and piping hot. Service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant was quite quiet, but it could not have been a more enjoyable meal. We’ll be back!

Not as special as you’d think. This has always been the pre-mo Chinese in Sevenoaks Can’t say I agree. Whilst the food was nice the quarter of duck wasn’t shredded but was very nice. The Kung po was ok. Cashews a nice touch. The chow mein was very dry. Pancake rolls veggie were horrid. Stick to Longhouse.

Loved the food! The beef in black bean sauce was very tasty, and the sweet and sour pork had the perfect crunch for my taste. I appreciated the way they warmed the dishes with candle lights—a charming touch I haven't seen in central London for quite some time.

Awful experience from the rudest waiter ever! My husband has to have GF menu, when he asked which dishes were GF the waiter grunted and pointed. Absolutely awful atmosphere.. never ever to return!!!

We decided to have a Chinese takeaway with friends. We were not disappointed . Each dish was decidedly tasty, especially the lemon chicken and sweet and sour vegetables. Our first time using Sun Do. Next time we will look forward to eating in the restaurant. Thank you.

We went last night for the Chinese New Year dinner and lion show and it was a delightful evening, good food and a very entertaining show. Always a good place to go

Food was tasty and would rate as good - wouldn’t return as mediocre. Have to agree with others that service is off putting. A very miserable’ husband and wife?’ team. They made it feel like you were an intrusion, that they despised their job and really didn’t want to be serving or conversing with their customers. Would say they were borderline rude. Won’t be returning

Excellent Chinese fare. Full and varied choice. Very busy for both dining in and takeaway but definitely the best Chinese in Sevenoaks

There was 10 of us who met up for a Christmas Social in late December, we had the large round table which was perfect for us. The food was excellent and the service was spot on. We meet here a few times a year and have always had a great night, would definitely recommend.

Very tasty and authentic Cantonese food, even for me who are from Hong Kong. Great festival atmosphere. Staff very helpful and friendly.

I have been going twice a month since 1989 and it is still the number one Chinese restaurant in the area.

Having been to the Sundo for many years, the food has been pretty nice, hence returning.. We wont be going back, as other reviews indicate the same Waiter is rude and miserable. This was bought to the restaurants notice, a rather poor excuse was made.. Clearly dont value returning paying custom. Such a shame to let a waiter ruin something so good!.

Well, when the service level is so poor it doesn’t matter how good the food or the atmosphere is. These people should understand customer service comes first. Not one but two: A miserable waiter and a waitress. We left after the first drinks, will never go there again and do not recommend.

We used to love the Sun Do. Tonight’s takeaway was by far the worst I’ve had in a long time. Nothing to recommend it.

Lovely place and lovely food and great staff

My friend and i visited, having phoned to book a table. During that call we were not advised that it would be a 15 pound minimum charge per person. Staff were grumpy looking. We chose a meal each which totaled £18 90,not including service charge. They took the order and kept offering us some other items When we refused the waitress said it would be £15 00 each. We sad no and said our meal would cost £18.90 as on the menu. No where on the menu does it say £15.00 min charge per person. The food was ok. We were not offered cultrey and had to use the serving spoon once we had given up the battle with chopsticks. When the bill came, it was £21. + which included service, and they had charged the wrong amount for one of the dishes. They were very rude and argued as other customers arrived. I showed the waitress the menu and said we were not paying any more. They were trying to fleece us and it was disgusting. I will never go there again and advise all customers to watch thier bill very carefully.

We have been going to Sun Doo Restaurant for years. Great food and great staff - not sure why people are giving bad reviews due to the staff. Have always found them all to be friendly and super efficient which is exactly what is required.

6-Jul-22: I visited Sun Do for dinner on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant was fairly busy, demonstrating its popularity. The decor is traditional, and the very extensive menu contains all the usual suspects but also a lot of interesting dishes that you don't always find. Our table for two was pretty small, so it was hard to fit the various dishes and drinks, but it was at the edge of the room and both chairs faced the room, which I do like as nobody faces a wall. Service was satisfactory. Most staff don't speak much English so it's hard to make conversation, but it was attentive enough. I'll definitely return as it's overall a very good option in the town centre.

The staff were friendly and funny! I enjoyed the food and drinks. The waiters were happy to assist us. Definitely an experience that I would recommend!

This is our local Chinese restaurant, we do takeaways from them fairly regularly because our 6 year old son loves their noodles. One day, we decided to walk in for lunch with our two children (aged 1 and 6), and it was a big mistake. They didn’t have high chairs, we were really not felt welcomed at all. Our toddler was being asked to sit down (on an adult chair!) and sushed by the waitress a few times. She also offered him a candy - I suppose she did it with good intentions, but I just wanted to mention that you shouldn’t really offer candies to other people’s children before checking with their parents. I was about to walk out before ordering but my husband insisted to stay. Needless to sat, the dine in experience was quick and disastrous, we will never dine in until our kids have grown up. Sadly this restaurant doesn’t cater for families and they simply do not want toddlers or small children in there, it really is too formal and quiet so perhaps our mistake to even attempt to have lunch there.

Food was ok but not a great experience overall . We were greeted by the most miserable waiter. We felt very unwelcomed as soon as we entered because the waiter was so serious and grumpy. He wudnt even let us finish talking before rushing back to his task. We were not made to feel welcome or greeted by the waiter who wa very serious at every interaction. Not sure if it's a language issue or just the attitude itself. Wasnt an enjoyable night at all. i was almost rushing to finish my food and felt watched out as the waiter was literally waitng to replace sheets and cutlery on our table which was pathetic. He kept the stuff on the table right infront of us which is very rude. If the staff were more welcoming and we didn’t have the grumpy waiter I think we would have come to the restaurant wanting to eat there again I do think the waiter didn't mean anything rude but he definitely needs to work on how to receive customers .

Food is delicious and tasty. On some of the reviews people have mentioned rude staff but I thought they were hilarious!!! It was like being served by Manuel of Fawlty Towers. Will definitely be returning soon🤣😂😍😁

Sun Do is by far the best Chinese we have frequented in Sevenoaks. Never been let down by their service and food is always great. Happy to pay a little more for great quality

As always this little gem 💎 is absolutely worth my 19 mile drive. Bursting with flavour, perfect amount of crisp, as you walk towards the restaurant from the outside, you can smell the quality and my mouth waters!! I will never stop dining at Sun Do unless they close down(which I hope of never) I only wish they were closer to home!☺️ Thank you for another great meal - with a satisfied, full tummy and a smile on my 19Mi drive home 🤣

The Sun Do was a favorite of my in the past I say past because our visit this week was not a good experience ! It was lunch for four one of us needed gluten free food we spoke to the restaurant two or three times to check because they sounded very unsure and vague but said they could accommodate us ,but when we sat down they apologised because they only had chicken and corn soup and rice that was suitable ! There were on two other tables occupied while we were there and on a Friday before Xmas .The food heaters arrived ,which looked as if they were about 20 years old which had two candle one of which the flame went out ,we mentioned to the unfriendly male waiter who said "it didn't matter " when the other candle also went out we did get one of the female waitresses to light them. The restaurant was very cold ,barely any heating on a very cold day,the gluten food was ok ,thank goodness but the atmosphere was miserable.,..My suggestion to the owner is probably either close it down because it is so dated and tired with miserable staff or modernise it have someone to welcome you with a smile and some conversation and put the heating on ! Nb ,I don't know? it is possible that the atmosphere is much better in the evening

I visited this restaurant for my mother's birthday. The experience was awful. Completely ruined by the appalling service from the male waiter. Who seemed to think he could simply grunt at us and we would do his job clearing the table. At one point he actually kicked my mother as he walked to the table. No apology or check to see if she was OK. What should have been a pleasant experience was entirely ruined by stress of being served by someone so very rude. Considering we were a party of 7 the bill was sizeable. I personally expect far better service for the price we paid. Shame as we have had many good meals there before. No wonder they include the service charge as I certainly would not tip after this experience. I certainly hope this waiter is dealt with before he costs the restaurant all of their customers. I see from reading other reviews on the restaurant we are not alone in our thoughts on service. In the mean time I recommend you avoid the Sun do and spend your money in the many other good restaurants around Sevenoaks!!

Really poor recent visit. Gluten free options were a joke, the waitress stated that every single chicken dish had flour in it..no idea how. Rest of the food was bland and the satay chicken was barely cooked.

Belated Review from 1978-1979. As a kid my parents took me and my 2 brothers to the Sun Do often. I have very fond memories. My favorite entree was Sweet & Sour Chicken. This dish was different from other S&SC in that the Chicken was a sliced fillet vs small chunks served everywhere else. I also remember the Vanilla Ice Cream with Chocolate Sauce with Wafers. There is actually a photo here of the desert and it looks exactly like I remember. In 1980 my family emigrated to California. If I visit England again I will pay a visit. Glad to see you still going strong.
