He staff were polite and professional with the covid issues. Sushi was made to order, had to wait a bit for it but was well worth the wait. 2 course lunch for under a £10.

Carry out. Got home and plated it. Shredded honey roast pork and fried rice, chicken teryaki. Both were grey, bland looking; a rather joyless an unappetising looking pair of dishes. Thats OK if it tastes good. It didn't. Both dishes were bland. Like a packet rice dish thrown in with some pork or chicken. There was no notion that someone with any cooking skills had been involved. The chicken had the dreaded "woody breast" (look it up) an awful, fibrous chicken texture. Took both dishes back, got a refund. Not good at all, very disappointing.

Wonderful place with great noodles and tofu options. Friendly staff and really nice light restaurant.

Excellent fresh-cooked food. Sushi is prepared as you wait and it’s worth waiting! Stir fries, soups, rice all excellent too. Take out tubs for what you can’t finish, and you won’t finish. 2-course meal in here! Very responsible social distancing and hygiene regime conscientiously applied by the lovely staff. Highly recommended.

I was so pleased we happened upon this great little restaurant.Tasty fresh food, attentive polite staff, good size portions and reasonably price. My only disappointment is that I live 100's of miles away and we were just passing through so won't be going back which is a shame.Very happy to recommend.

We had a late lunch/ early dinner, two courses for two people with a soft drink which with the government scheme came to a ridiculously low £12, the service was quick and friendly as always and the pork spring rolls, chicken wings and salt and chilli chicken were lovely.

First time in Sumo with my partner and the last. I had noodles with seafood and it was tasteless. Portion was also very small. Would have expected better for £13.

Sushi is so fresh and tasty 100% recommend trying. Sumo Yakisoba best dish in town, mixed meat and fish with noodles. Salt and pepper chicken wings to die for. Love this place been eating in and taking away for years. You need to try here!

It used to be great but is now a bit hit and miss. The chicken and beef were chewy, not good and the salt and pepper chilli chicken was very dry. A real shame used to really look forward to a Sumo.

Had a late lunch here with my brother, food was nicely displayed on arrival, so don’t judge by my photos as I had started eating before remembering to take a photo, my brother’s stater looked like something you could buy frozen, my starter was deep fried tofu which was nice and freshly cooked, my main was beef udon soup which was ok, I have had better! Can’t remember what my brother had, but said it was a bit bland! If I remember rightly, the first time I had eaten here was much better. Soft drinks are way overpriced priced at £2.40 a can, but I would return, nice friendly staff.

Love Sumo, not just because it's authentic but you can drop in anytime for amazing food. Friendly,casual dining perfect for some dinner before or during a night out. The sushi is amazing.

Went here with a friend for the 3 course specials dinner menu and as usual food was absolutely delicious. No waiting around to be served and staff very attentive, pleasant and polite. Prices very reasonable too. Can’t beat it and would most certainly highly recommend. I will definitely be returning g again very soon.

I go to Sumo for lunch quite often and it's always delicious, usually the 2 course menu, great variety of options and good value, spicy chicken wings are amazing, and either beef yakiudon or ramen for main course, never had a dish I didn't like, I like the layout of the restaurant as well, top class!

Ok, I'll be totally honest. I REALLY don't like sitting-in at Sumo. The place feels cramped and I feel like I'm back at school, sitting on wooden benches. I really wish they'd update the seating arrangements. But my wife loves the food, so I gave in and went for the pre-theatre. All my moaning aside, the food is really nice. I couldn't complain about any of the food put down to us. The Sesame Chicken Toast was delicious, as was the Chicken Yaki-Tori starter. The mains were just as good! The Salt n Chilli Chicken was nice 'n crispy and had great flavour - I scoffed the lot! And the Sweet & Spicy Chicken was also really moreish. And it's not something I usually mention, but the fried rice had a great flavour, too! Neither of us could manage a 3rd course, so that tells you how big the portions were! So 2 courses each and a drink came to £33 - can't complain at that, especially when it tastes so good!

Sheer pleasure from start to finish. All the family enjoyed it immensely. Clean friendly and nice food. Staff where great with our 3 year old grandson. Very pleasant experience at reasonable prices

Not been here for several years so good to see that the excellent quality food is still being served. My favourite Agadashi tofu starter is still delightful and I savoured every bite and spoonful. The chicken yakisoba was equally delicious and was soon polished off. Great service with food quickly prepared and served. I will make a point of visiting here soon.

Small restaurant tucked away in a side street. Excellent service and a very good meal. Tried using chopsticks and managed to get 70 percent through before the muscles in my hand gave up and I resorted to a fork. It was not clear on entering that alcohol was available but the choice of wine and beer was great. We are looking forward to going back.

I've used Sumo in Falkirk for takeaway before and am usually satisfied with the offerings; portion sizes are good, food is freshly made using quality ingredients etc. So I had no worries about ordering from here again on Saturday 23rd March. However, it was sorely disappointing. I'd ordered crispy dumplings to start; these were not crispy but soft, rubbery and chewy. If I didn't know what was in them there was no way I could have guessed from the taste or texture. I also ordered a tempura dish that was to include prawns and seafood sticks, as well as some seasonable vegetables. What I received was a box containing one tempura prawn, about half a tempura seafood stick, and around 5 or 6 chunks of vegetables in tempura batter. No sauce, and the tempura batter was soggy. the fried rice it cam with was lukewarm at best.

Visited with work friends recently and we all agreed that the food was delicious, while the service was prompt and efficient. We shared mixed platters to start and I had the chicken satay madura which tasty. Looking forward to a return visit

Loved my takeaway the coconut curry was amazing salt and chilli chicken / sweet and spicy chicken wings were great. A lovely way to spend my Christmas voucher the portions were huge lasted 2 days. I usually sit in but I'm definitely getting a takeaway this Saturday again! Staff friendly helpful.

This was our first visit as my daughter really wanted to try ramen. I have to say it did not disappoint we tried various starters and mains all were extremely fresh and tasty. Portion sizes were enormous. Cannot wait to return soon. Highly recommend and very friendly staff.

I’ve been a regular at Sumo for some time, but today’s offering was abysmal. The food was so over spiced that it was inedible. I enjoy a bit of kick, but there’s that, then there’s just inedible.

First time at sumo as was on a visit to the area. Been a while since we had Japanese so was looking forward to it. We shared a gyoza (lovely) and beef teriyaki (bit chewy) and ordered a seafood udon fish and a sizzling beef sake dish. The seafood dish was well cooked, spicy as requested and filling. The sake dish was felt to be tasty but lacking a little favour. We really enjoyed eating something a bit different from the norm and would love to have this on our doorstep. Very friendly and attentive service, easy to find and popular as a takeaway too.

A popular quick lunch stop; very reasonably price £9.90 for 2 courses. It offers a selection of Asian dishes. Portion size is good and service is fast.

Love going here for the noodle soup but there suchi is great just be careful of the wasabe sauce. Love the atmosphere and the staff are great.

Ive been going for sumo since i was yay heigh- its our go-to for eating out. The staff are friendly, and the food is like the warm, comforting glow of spending christmas with family. Yeah, its THAT good. Although, their desserts arent all that good, but thats fine because they give jelly beans with the receipt- its little things that make this place the first place i think of when i have to voyage outside the long trodden path of home cooking (and by cooking i mean taking something out of a tin). The service is surprisingly fast, and the restraunt is homely- the kind of place where it would be acceptable to strike up a conversation with the people next to you, provided its not their first date

Wanted to try real sushi when I was out and about in falkirk, staff really friendly and helped with my choices. Food arrived and was lovely! Highly recommend!!!

Went for a lunch with family members and were greeted warmly by the staff on arrival. Our starters were superb but although we enjoyed our main meals, two of the family found they had to add seasoning as they thought their meals to be lacking something. This was a first for us as every other time we have eaten here we have always found the food to be perfect in every way. We still enjoyed our lunch however and this restaurant will remain one of our favourite places to eat.

We had a mix of starters and sushi.the yakatori chicken was disappointing.very dry as they used breast meat rather than thigh and sauce was thin.tempura,however,was delicious!gyoza were average.sushi was lovely and beautifully presented,not sure where the sweet corn one fitted tho,didn’t like that.staff were nice enough but not over friendly.i would go back to try the noodles!!!

It doesnt look like an upmarket place decor is simple, but the food was so tasty. Loved the sushi and the portions are large. Must go for sushi lovers in the area.

Hi every time we go to Falkirk on our rest days this is where we go before shopping as the staff are attentive the food is fresh and the menu is very good do not have to have sushi the menu cateres for all tastes if you like to have noddles rice and chinese type of food things this is my best place that I would go to in Falkirk and the price is very resonable :-D

I'm a super sushi fan. This is my soul food! And with sumo I'm never disappointed. For my boyfriend and me it's always a treat to grab sushi for take away or to spend some time there with amazing time. And trust me, we're picky when it comes to sushi. Whole atmosphere is great and authentic, even with a back kitchen there, there's still our sushi master in front, making his magic. We love this place!!

Brilliant little restaurant. Food is wonderful. I had the chicken is in soup with garlic base. Wow! Flavours were delightful. Others had Chicken curry and reported that it was wonderful. Prices are very reasonable. Recommend this place for sure.

Clean restaurant with seating in benches in a “fast food” style.

I have visited sumo on numerous occasions and you won't find better value for money at lunch time than their set menu.

Went here again since my previous visit in January. Once more, fantastic service and food second to none. I always intended to return, not just for the standard of service, menu choices, price of food and the quality of the food. I felt a wee bit guilty as on my last visit I only left a pound tip. This was because I had forgotten my credit and debit cards so paid in cash and had very little cash on me. On this visit, although my order came to under £10, I left a fiver which was well deserved. Just love this wee place.

Fresh & tasty lunch or dinner. Sitting in or taking away it's an ideal bit of scran. It's suits the Mrs down to a T and you always leave feeling satisfied yet without being bloated! It always feels a little more guilt free than a Chinese takeaway as well...Nevertheless it's a great place for something different to eat in town. If you don't try you'll never know.

I'm a fan of Japanese noodles, so we had to eat here while in Falkirk recently. I loved the chef-special stir-fried udon with the 'stealth' heat. I couldn't even taste any chilli for the first couple of mouthfuls, but by the time I'd finish, my lips were burning. Lovely.

Absolutely fantastic impromptu lunch at Sumo which I'd never visited despite living round the corner! Food was fab and excellent value-my delicious katzu chicken arrived as a huge portion that I couldn't possibly finish and my daughter raved about her chicken ramen which is apparently streets ahead of Wagamama's. Will definitely visit again for a more leisurely dinner. Good friendly service. I do feel the place could do with some music as I feel it lacks atmosphere. Pitty.

My wife and I are foodies, and my wife in particular really enjoys Japanese food. Now we live in Larbert, which is not too far away and often go to Falkirk to shop, and dine out. We have been to Sumo on at least 2 occasions and I feel compelled to write a review as I think the team there have done a wonderful job and have a special place here on their hands. Now if you have never been to Falkirk, it is not exactly a massive city in itself, overshadowed by nearby Edinburgh. To find a restaurant of this quality when we first moved here was indeed a pleasant surprise. Sumo does not just sell Japanese food and sushi, but also other cuisines such as Indonesian noodles, Szechuan noodles etc. You get the idea. The food quality is good, and we have been to many Japanese restaurants and sushi bars from the likes of Wasabi in Manchester for instance, to the more expensive chains like Yo Sushi. It is certainly at par with the very best. Portions are generous and I have never felt short-changed whenever I order something here. Variety is also good and the green tea ice cream is incredible. The place is a bit small, but that adds to the atmosphere I think. If you go to Tokyo, some of the restaurants are not that big. Icing on the cake is the staff. We have been there twice with our 1 year-old son and they have always gone the extra mile and made us feel comfortable and it is a very family-friendly place. Highly commendable and they have clearly been very well-trained. Overall, this has now become one of our go-to places whenever we fancy some Japanese food around this neck of the woods, and I sincerely hope it will continue to maintain its high standards and grow!

I love going to sumo with my friends, although it is classed as a cafe with bench seating the meals are always absolutely delicious. I have never had anything from the menu that I didn't like and the service is always fast and friendly!

Popped in for some sashimi and was not disappointed. Food on offer makes me think it's worth trying again with the full a la carte menu. Staff friendly also

I've read the negative views on this establishment and have to say that my experience has been nothing but impressed. I personally am not a fan of sushi however my wife is and she lovesit. We took her brother to try it, who's a bit of a foodie and has been on cookery courses in Japan and he was impressed.We don't live locally and so have to travell 20 miles to get there. I would travel to it daily to eat if I could afford to. The staff have never been anything but polite. We have had the odd dissapointment but that would never put me off. People have off days, chefs included. Just a fraction cooked too long or not enough/too much seasoning can impact on a dish. What one person hates another loves so all you have to go on is opinion.I'm a very fussy traditional eater - meat and 2 veg. Yet I love to eat here. I have a couple of favourites and not once has mine been anything but excellent. My wife is the one who had the off days but still goes back because they are rare. Go. Eat. Enjoy.

This is a cute wee place - lovely staff and delicious food. Not hugely keen on the seating arrangements but the food made up for it.

I've always been a big fan of Wagamama but we still decided to give Sumo a go. So glad that we did! It was packed, we had reserved a table there was still a bit of a delay but we weren't in a hurry. Great food and relaxed atmosphere, extensive menu too. Highly recommend the Gyozas

Visit Sumo almost every time I'm in Falkirk and have yet to be disappointed. Food is always very tasty and the price is very reasonable for the quality and quantity of what you get.

We popped by quite late but they managed to accommodate us. The service was great and the food was amazing. Immaculately presented and very tasty!

The quality of Sumo is consistently high. I am never disappointed. Their sushi is fresh and delicious. But it doesn't matter what you order, you will not be disappointed.

I had lunch here today, the service was quick and friendly. The food was lovely (better than wags mama). I had veg springs rolls the mixed veg curry served with rice. Excellent if your looking for a nic meal quickly

My husband and I are regulars at Sumo both sit in and take away, I love the avocado maki and hubby the ebi gyoza :) Staff are always very friendly even though theres a few new faces :) Food is lovely and I feel they offer a wide range of choice for varied tastes. Set meals are good value for money and love the jelly beans when it's time to pay the bill.Most of my family love Sumo and enjoy our little get togethers here. Highly recommend you give it a try :)

Ever heard the expression - third time lucky? Well it does not apply to Sumo. On a recent trip to Central Scotland we returned to Sumo for a second . . . and a third visit. Both were excellent. We ordered a variety of things and all were prepared to the highest quality. And the taste - excellent. We will be back.

Been a few times, fantastic service and a good choice, we have always heard good things and as yet this has still to disappoint, sushi next on the list to try.At times it can get busy we have always managed to get a table without having to face the wall or the street but others have been less fortunate.Well worth a visit and make up your own mind.

Visited having read good reviews. Service was efficient but the food was really disappointing - cheap ingredients (that could have come from the ASDA 300 metres away) and dishes that lacked flavour.

Went for dinner, hadn't booked and the restaurant was busy with tables reserved - which we thought a great sign. We were offered to wait 30mins or take a bench facing the wall - at the bench we could still see each other and talk / share dishes...so no biggy! Staff were very attentive and food was tasty and fresh. The 'early bird' deal was great value with decent portion sizes. Being relatively new to Japanese food both the 'early bird 'and main menus look worthy of a few returns.

Have visited this place twice in the last few weeks with colleagues. Great two course set menu offer at lunchtime. Great range of options, and the main courses come with rice or different types of noodles. Will be back!

See my previous reviews where I have nothing but huge high praise for this restaurant. However, I'm sitting in Behind the Wall at present having just walked out of Sumo. I popped in & said I was solo, was offered seat facing the window, declined as I hate people walking past & staring at you as u eat. I don't think it's a bad concept if others like it its up to them. The other solo seats are a single bench wide "table" along a wall. You are about 15 inches from the wall & incredibly claustrophobic when eating, so again declined. I was told I could not be seated elsewhere as they were a small restaurant. Understandable if u were going to plonk me down beside some poor people's table or if I was taking a huge table alone. THE PLACE WAS EMPTY BAR 2 PEOPLE!!!Utterly ridiculous - I won't be back & I'm a regular....was in for a meal on Saturday night for heavens sake!! You should be ashamed of treating loyal customers this way. I appreciate you are small but you were empty & I would have vacated the table in 45 mins but so be it. You've lost me & most likely a few friends n family due to this. Hope u have a very very busy afternoon Sumo as u expect to be.Ps. My mushroom soup and blt in next doors Behind the Wall is lovely!!

Come here often with my boyfriend and always have a lovely meal. The one thing that I think would be good is that they get the chunky chop sticks, for people that struggle with the thinner ones. Will definitely be back!

We had a yummy miso soup packed with flavour and a platter of freshly made delicious sushi. My main was a great sizzling seafood noodle dish. Polite friendly service. Lost one star for uncomfortable benches!

I love this restaurant in Falkirk. Its a little different to most places here. It has a great selection of fish, chicken & vegetable sushi, something for all.The Katsu curry & chicken teriyaki are filling & delicious. I would recommend the chicken garlic ramen soup, very filling & tasty! Its always great to pop in here at lunch time as they offer a special lunchtime menu which gives you 2 courses for around £6 then your drinks on top of it. They also do a dinner sit in special for around £8-9 for 2 courses. The portions are smaller & have got smaller than when they 1st started doing these offers.When ordering a takeaway from here it can get a little pricey but you get what you pay for. Its all delicious & tasty, I have never been disappointed yet!

Sumo is a great place to have a Japanese meal! The food is great and the atmosphere is really nice. The staff are so friendly too. The prices are good especially at lunchtime. They do a really good deal on a 2 or 3 course meal. Love it!
