A mixed bag. My samosa was very overcooked. The pastry was so hard I could barely break it with a knife. Whilst having a break to finish sending a message, a waiter approached, asked me if I had finished, and immediately picked the plate up, before I could answer. "No, I've not", then quick fire "are you ready for your main? "No, we're not" i replied. Thought that was a sign of poor training of the staff. The main was delicious, absolutely lovely desi lamb, all the sides were spot on. After finishing we asked if I could take my leftovers and was given a plastic container and a bag. I went to reception to pay. The front of house said the price, and that was all. At no point did anyone ask how the meal had been. Again, I don't think this was good, particularly given the overcooked samosa. The main was amazing! So a few tweaks in the kitchen and a little training of the staff would make it excellent all round. I am inclined to return!

Visited on a quiet Thursday evening so not many in. Great menu and food. No beers was more of a surprise than a disappointment but a very good curry and a cup of tea was just fine.

Had a most delicious meal with my granddaughter. We had a set meal for two with a choice of main course. It was a substantial feast and really good value for money. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Oorder food at at 18:24 made a call to the restraint 8:00 asking where food was they said it was running late and that it will be here by 835 I waited until 9 then phoned against to be told the food is delivered....food is here at 21:30 want refund

Over 2.5 hours to deliver. 1 hour more than it was quoted. When it arrived, the food wasn't great. Bland and just flavoured with a ridiculous amount of onions to bolster theook of the meal. Everything was tasteless. Apart from the chicken tikka. First time I've ever had chicken served not off the bone. Wasn't a great experience. I'd avoid this place in the future.

The staff were very pleasant and attentive. I had a mixed kebab starter which was well presented and very tasty. Unfortunately, the main was very poor. Allegedly the chef’s special (Lamb Dewanee?), it had no identifiable pieces of meat in it and resembled a bowl of pet food. Quite a disappointment.

Better than Brick Lane... soz Londoners! This was a really great find and is a real GEM of Lancaster. We were intrigued by the building, which is an old church and went in to see if they had tables, not expecting to find a beautifully decorated room, a friendly welcome, EXCEPTIONAL service by a lovely gentleman called Wasim. He was attentive, polite and full of joy. We had the most amazing Indian food I have ever tasted. The mango lassie is INCREDIBLE! Delicious Poppadoms and Chutneys (the red one which I have never seen before was very tasty) and EXCELLENT curry's. I will certainly return! Thank you Sultan of Lancaster, thanks to the friendly Manager whose name I forgot to ask and thank you Wasim, blessings to you!

The restaurant was disappointing Just an outside painting of an Indian restaurant?? Boiled chicken cubes dipped in ready-made sauce?? Also, it is unreasonable for a restaurant to serve reheated rice Naan bread... is never naan. It is regular dough placed in an oven Unfortunately, such a restaurant is a bad experience for ancient Indian cuisine The restaurant owners should re-evaluate it again

Lovely food and service. Super flavoursome biryani and the veggie spring rolls are best I’ve had. Generous portions so plenty leftover for a tasty lunch the next day!

This is hands down the best Indian food in Lancaster! Not only is the food incredible, but the restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with a great atmosphere that really enhances the dining experience. The service was fantastic—the staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel very welcome. I will definitely be recommending this restaurant on my Chinese social media and I can’t wait to visit again. I highly recommend the prawn curry—the prawns were incredibly fresh and flavorful. An absolute must-try!

My friend and I were staying for the night in Lancaster and stumbled across this restaurant - what a find! Set in a sympathetically decorated former chapel, the food was tasty and plentiful. The service was friendly, discreet but attentive. I would recommend trying this restaurant if you fancy authentic South Asian food

During our overnight stay in Lancaster, we were in the mood for a good curry, and this restaurant came highly recommended—and it didn’t disappoint. The food was excellent, and the service was top-notch. We especially loved the unique setting inside a beautifully decorated old church, which added a special touch to our dining experience. While the restaurant doesn’t serve alcohol, they offer non-alcoholic beer that paired nicely with our meal. A special shoutout to Ash, the manager, who was incredibly friendly and even suggested a lovely route for a quick walk around Lancaster. Highly recommend!

Absolutely beautiful location, wonderful staff who gave us very attentive service (a free jug of raspberry lemonade and desserts for the table!) at super cheap prices. Will definitely be visiting again, my favourite place in Lancaster! For starter, we had onion bhajis which were a lovely entrée. The chicken madras was amazing, with a rich and balanced flavour - as well as being genuinely spicy whereas other places tend to be stingy with the spices. The meat was tender and very tasty! We also got garlic naan which was the best I've ever tasted. And the free complementary desserts were glorious, molten chocolate cakes with custard which was a lovely end to a delicious meal. The staff were incredibly friendly from beginning to end, very helpful, and very polite. Even though alcohol is not served in the restaurant itself due to it being an old Methodist church, there is an option to leave whilst food is being prepared and drink, which is unique and considerate of people's preferences. Will definitely be visiting again, I would come to Lancaster just to eat here!

It was our 1st visit to Lancaster and also to the restaurant. The building itself is very spectacular. They had only just opened when we arrived and the staff was so friendly. Inside was so spacious and very clean, nice relaxing atmosphere. Food was cooked so fresh and it tasted amazing. Dishes we ordered. Egg rice, mixed grill, chicken korma, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan. The chicken melted in the mouth it was so tender and all the sauces were perfect. Best curry we have had in a long time well worth going again.

As usual, the food is outstanding, and Ishak, the manager is absolutely awesome and welcoming. We travelled from London and we visit here once a year. Ishak remembers us, how amazing is this! Food was EXCELLENT but delivery time was poor. Ordered at approx 18:00 - Website showed delivery taking place at about 19:05, but was not delivered until 19:55. Great food and will still use again!

Ordered a takeaway from this excellent Indian restaurant and enjoyed everything about it. The quality and taste of the food was outstanding, quite delicious. We had a minor problem with the order which the restaurant speedily resolved and without question. Furthermore, even though we weren’t really inconvenienced, they added several items to our order at no extra charge. Very generous and great customer service. We will definitely order from this restaurant again.

Aw guys. Normally love your food and it's spot on but tonight it was all sauce and hardly any meat? have pictures but no option to upload? Lived here for 2 and a half years and loved your food but 4 pieces of small diced chicken in a korma? Not on guys 😣

We recently placed a substantial order spending nearly £100 with high expectations of enjoying a good meal. However, our experience turned out to be extremely disappointing, to say the least. First and foremost, the Peri Peri chicken, a dish we were particularly looking forward to, was far below the standards we expected. The most noticeable issue was the excessive use of food coloring and oil. The vibrant color of the chicken was unnaturally intense, which immediately raised concerns about its preparation. Unfortunately, our concerns were validated upon tasting it. The chicken lacked the rich, flavorful spice that one typically expects from Peri Peri, and instead, it had a rather off-putting taste. The overwhelming presence of food coloring not only made the dish visually unappealing but also left an unpleasant aftertaste. It's disheartening to see a dish that could have been a highlight of the meal turn out to be so poorly executed. As for the vegetarian dishes, the situation was equally, if not more, disappointing. We ordered several vegetarian options, expecting them to be fresh and flavorful. However, what we received was far from that. The dishes were not only bland and poorly seasoned but also had a strong, unpleasant smell that suggested they were either not fresh or improperly stored before preparation. The off-putting aroma was enough to make us question the quality and safety of the food. Despite our attempts to give the dishes a fair try, the taste only confirmed our worst fears. The flavors were dull and unappetizing, with some of the vegetables appearing wilted and overcooked. It was clear that little care was taken in the preparation of these dishes, and the result was inedible. In the end, we found ourselves unable to consume most of the food. After a few bites, it became clear that this meal was not going to meet even the most basic expectations. We were left with no choice but to discard nearly all of it, which was incredibly frustrating given the amount of money we spent. Spending nearly £100 on a meal that ends up in the bin is not just disappointing; it's unacceptable. We had hoped for a meal that would bring enjoyment and satisfaction, but instead, we were met with a total waste of money. In summary, our experience with this order was extremely disappointing. The poor quality of the food, particularly the excessively colored Peri Peri chicken and the bad-smelling vegetarian dishes, left us with an order that was almost entirely inedible. We hope this review serves as constructive feedback for the restaurant to improve the quality and preparation of their food. As customers, we expect value for our money, and unfortunately, this experience fell far short of that expectation.

Sultans was our favourite Indian in the area and one of the nicest Indians food in the north west we have had when we visited We visited on a Saturday this time which wasn’t busy at all, only around 30% full. However it was very sad to see that standards have gone down. The tikka masala was watery and had little flavour and the peswari nan had very little filling also and flavouring, the same with the rice. To be honest 3/5 was a push for the food I’d rate it 1.5/5. The service from the female waiter with glasses was extremely poor, she said about 2 words the entire time. The male with the glasses and ginger hair however was to the contrary, very polite and friendly and built rapport. The male should be given credit for this customer service. We’d probably not return unless reassurance this was simply a bad night for the restaurant.

The manager, Mr. Ash very cooperative for the dine in. Had to organize a dinner for 20 people including a VIP and he is very cooperative and the service is top. Really recommended if you want a proper dine in. Everyone enjoy the tasty food that he recommended. Definitely would come again when organizing big events.

absolutely poor takeaway took over 2 hours to arrive..I had to call them to see where it was, and when it arrived it was very poor, the chicken tikka came with a sauce we can only describe as tomatoe puree.. even two other neighbours had a guess at what it was! food arrived warm and not fresh like it had been left standing and the mint sauce etc was nasty...normally this place is bang on..they have lost a customer

Food was very tasty and big portions Service was good especially from the girl who worked non stop. Only negative was the filthy carpet which hasn't been cleaned in years if ever.

This restaurant is a great place for couples and families. My partner and I travelled to Lancaster from Scotland and were looking for a place to book for dinner. We are really glad we picked here! Sultan of Lancaster is a great restaurant with great food, prices and staff. Particularly, the Restaurant Manager Ash was very pleasant and asked us for our feedback. This is one of the very few restaurants where we have encountered such great staff who really do care about customer service and who ask what we liked and didn’t like about the food. We had no complaints whatsoever. The food was beautifully cooked and tasted delicious. If we are ever in this location again we will return!

Ash, the manager, was so helpful and communicative advising on menus and seating arrangements, helping us keep within our budget. Ive had a sultan many times and always been lovely how ever on this occasion i ordered the uncle munch box and it came in a small box last time was a bigger box i literally recieved half the portion for the same price the chips were hard and cold and barely a hand full..advertised 3 samosas only came with one in the box... wasnt happy and rang to let them know the man didnt really seem bothered didnt offer a solution..i thought was quite unprofessional if im honest which is a shame as normally nice people and nice food..
