Outstanding food and excellent service at sultan. We have never visited before but will definitely be back. Great value for money. We got the classic set meal and portion sizes were generous. Probably the best Indian I have ever had. The manager made our experience unforgettable. Thank you

It was our 1st visit to Lancaster and also to the restaurant. The building itself is very spectacular. They had only just opened when we arrived and the staff was so friendly. Inside was so spacious and very clean, nice relaxing atmosphere. Food was cooked so fresh and it tasted amazing. Dishes we ordered. Egg rice, mixed grill, chicken korma, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan. The chicken melted in the mouth it was so tender and all the sauces were perfect. Best curry we have had in a long time well worth going again.

As usual, the food is outstanding, and Ishak, the manager is absolutely awesome and welcoming. We travelled from London and we visit here once a year. Ishak remembers us, how amazing is this! He makes us feel very special. Thank you for giving me the NHS discount and looking after us with the services provided. Your food is delicious, and the service is impeccable! Ordered a takeaway from this excellent Indian restaurant and enjoyed everything about it. The quality and taste of the food was outstanding, quite delicious. We had a minor problem with the order which the restaurant speedily resolved and without question. Furthermore, even though we weren’t really inconvenienced, they added several items to our order at no extra charge. Very generous and great customer service. We will definitely order from this restaurant again.

Sultans was our favourite Indian in the area and one of the nicest Indians food in the north west we have had when we visited We visited on a Saturday this time which wasn’t busy at all, only around 30% full. However it was very sad to see that standards have gone down. The tikka masala was watery and had little flavour and the peswari nan had very little filling also and flavouring, the same with the rice. To be honest 3/5 was a push for the food I’d rate it 1.5/5. The service from the female waiter with glasses was extremely poor, she said about 2 words the entire time. The male with the glasses and ginger hair however was to the contrary, very polite and friendly and built rapport. The male should be given credit for this customer service. We’d probably not return unless reassurance this was simply a bad night for the restaurant.

Amazing tasty food, love the curries- Madras, Rogan Josh and Vindaloo with Chapatis chutneys, absolutely tasty with traditional flavours. 5stars

This is the real deal. The food is full flavored, bright and made with love. Our group had 6 of the dishes and they were each amazing. I really enjoyed the masala as it as it stood out as the best I have ever experienced. Well done!

Amazing restaurant, lovely and friendly staff. We really enjoyed and recommend it. The restaurant is Muslim and does not serve alcohol, a feature worth mentioning.

I've ordered from the sultan a few times. The food is always delicious and the staff are very friendly. They give generous potion sizes and the ingredients taste very fresh. Will definitely order from here again.

absolutely poor takeaway took over 2 hours to arrive..I had to call them to see where it was, and when it arrived it was very poor, the chicken tikka came with a sauce we can only describe as tomatoe puree.. even two other neighbours had a guess at what it was! food arrived warm and not fresh like it had been left standing and the mint sauce etc was nasty...normally this place is bang on..they have lost a customer

Food was very tasty and big portions Service was good especially from the girl who worked non stop. Only negative was the filthy carpet which hasn't been cleaned in years if ever.

This restaurant is a great place for couples and families. My partner and I travelled to Lancaster from Scotland and were looking for a place to book for dinner. We are really glad we picked here! Sultan of Lancaster is a great restaurant with great food, prices and staff. Particularly, the Restaurant Manager Ash was very pleasant and asked us for our feedback. This is one of the very few restaurants where we have encountered such great staff who really do care about customer service and who ask what we liked and didn’t like about the food. We had no complaints whatsoever. The food was beautifully cooked and tasted delicious. If we are ever in this location again we will return!

Easily sat 10 of us with no reservation. Restaurant was clean and friendly. Food was fantastic and appropriately spicy.

We took 33 students and academics to The Sultan and have to say the service and food were both fantastic. Ash, the manager, was so helpful and communicative advising on menus and seating arrangements, helping us keep within our budget. We had one unexpected vegetarian which Ash was able to cater for, delivering two dishes within 5 mins. Wouldn’t hesitate to return for our next course meal, many thanks to all the staff!

Ive had a sultan many times and always been lovely how ever on this occasion i ordered the uncle munch box and it came in a small box last time was a bigger box i literally recieved half the portion for the same price the chips were hard and cold and barely a hand full..advertised 3 samosas only came with one in the box... wasnt happy and rang to let them know the man didnt really seem bothered didnt offer a solution..i thought was quite unprofessional if im honest which is a shame as normally nice people and nice food..

This is my first time ordering from here and the food is terrible - the onion bajis are greasy and burnt the nann breads -we ordered 3 were tasteless and not like cake !! The curry’s are a real let down - it’s gone in the bin - terrible food.

Some things are reliably v good from the Sultan - I particularly liked the Lamb Rogan Josh - v good rich tasty sauce and the lamb properly cooked so it's soft and tender (not tough like some places) but disappointed by the Tarka Dhal - flavour good but a bit too thin and watery and only half a tub full for £8.50! (and lentils are so cheap?)

Wonderful! We visited the Sultan and had a fantastic meal. We shared poppadoms and the chutney tray, with a chicken tikka and two mixed grill dishes. The food was delicious.

A party of four had food here. Overall experience Below Par! The seekh kebabs as starters were awful, just reheated, rubbery and tasteless. For the mains I had the Naga Lamb which was excellent, really hot and spicy 🥵 Salmon sauce was OK but nothing special. Chicken Jalfarazi was Good 😊 Sultan Special Lamb was Not Special, too sweet and the whole taste was confused. Side of Masala.chips was not great either.

Chutney tray was not so clever as the mint was warm and the onions were terrible, but this was out right by the quality of the curries we received, all cooked to perfection the chicken was nice and soft, and the peppers in my curry were just perfectly cooked and had a squeak when bitten, the garlic nan was nice and fresh. overall 9/10

Ordered a biryani and had a plate of yellow tasteless rice with some bland chicken delivered. Had a pleasant discussion with the staff about what a biryani is and he said that they serve a different kind of biryani. Lovely, but the most disappointing Indian I've ever had. Probably boiled pilau rice with chicken mixed with a packet of spice mix. Oh well...

Ordered a takeaway and got two portions of disgusting sauce with barely any chicken - apparently it’s a “chicken tikka masala”. There was a total of 4 pieces of chicken in each portion, all tasteless and overpriced. To top it all off we got a soggy naan bread or burnt onion bajis - We spent £32 on food that we should’ve genuinely been paid to eat. Really disappointed and won’t be ordering from here again!

Best roti ever. No lime pickle on the pickle tray - that is a must for me. Dansak was disappointing. Sent first one back, inedible, overly thick and full of chilli. Second one was better but again just a chilli flavour, no depth of flavour and layering of spice. Service very good

How disappointed we were. Ordered a tandoori mix grill at £15.75. The meat was very dry like it had been reheated. The chicken portions were small, one of the lamb chops was inedible. The quality was very poor. Advertised that it came with salad which turned out to be a spoonful of rocket leaves red cabbage and carrot. Not impressed.

Ordered the meal at 5.30 for a 7.15 delivery and it was 50 minutes late. Will not be ordering from here again. Waste of money and feel really ripped off as the meal was bland, naan bread hard like a biscuit and rice tasteless. Meal arrived cool too. Really disappointed

I had a take away of chicken dewaana and 2 naan, which was made as per the Indian taste buds. The gravy was fabulous and the naans were soft even after getting the food home. They also served accompaniments of papad and mint chutney which was finger licking.

Food is definitely worth the wait. Best indian in town , offering both authentic Indian and more UK style Indian.

Absolutely disgraceful meal out for several reasons. Wish I could give zero stars! 1) For our main meal we were served chicken which was RAW in the middle and had bits of grey meat on it!! Then the waiter tried to make us eat another bit of chicken he brought out for us. No thank you!! Thankfully I hadn't eaten any before I checked the middle! 2) Our starter took ages to arrive and they forgot half of it. 3) We were asked if we were ready for our main and we said no because I was still finishing my starter. Our main immediately arrived and they took away my plate that still had food on it. 4) We were brought dirty plates for our main and they took ages to bring a clean one. Also our table cloth was dirty and stained and clearly hadn't been changed since the last people ate there. 5) When we complained about the raw chicken, we were not given a choice about what we wanted to do, the manager brought us out something completely different (some sort of tandoori chicken) that he had "just made himself" (in about 2 minutes). He also got very confrontational when we said we wanted to leave. Needless to say, we didn't eat anything else, walked out and will not be going back. Avoid if you don't want salmonella poisoning!

Amazing food, would definitely go back!

I brought a good friend of mine from Australia around Lancaster and wasn’t disappointed with the quality of indian food being served here. Staff were excellent with great knowledge of the menu and offered great suggestions for all spice tolerances. I will be back for more.

Nice food, let down by service & no alcohol served. We booked this place after seeing a good rating on Google. The food was great tasting, but let down by the staff & rules. No alcohol is served, which it states because the site was an old church, which is complete tosh. I've been in churches converted into pubs, that have no issues serving alcohol. We asked for a child's menu, but they didn't have one, we asked for a smaller portion, but they couldn't do this, so a 4 year old child would be expected to pay for a full priced meal. Then to top it off, when we asked for pakoras as a main for another child, they asked if we wanted a large portion of that. Quite a strange place, that could do far better. We won't visit again.

Ignored prior contact to ask if we could take a bottle of wine. Had to find out from reviews. Not a problem but the food was bland and very greasy, leaving a nasty tasting film on your mouth. The whole place is tired and a bit run down, the toilet has never seen a mop, disgusting. Will not be returning, do yourself a favour and go anywhere else.

The Sultan are always so consistent- I still wish they did salad and mint sauce with starters but that aside, I’ve never once had anything wrong with any food from the Sultan - everything is always fresh and beautifully cooked. A big thank you to the chef and team.

Ordered the Meat Tali as usual and it was great but the forgot the poppadoms. We received all the sauces, but no poppadoms which was disappointing. Because it was part of a set meal, there was no way to report this on the app or get a partial refund.

Good food, but disappointing service. Order was wrong, second time this has happened to me. Being offered extra items by way of compensation does not make up for the poor service. For a mix-up to have happened once, fair enough: these things happen. Twice, not good enough. Sadly, will not be ordering from Sultan again.

Just no words 😶, i am not 100% sure but i am confident that they are not using 100% halal meat, they are mixing cheap non halal things.

I was sadly disappointed with our visit, given the positive reviews that it had received. The service was friendly and professional. However, the food was bland and generally flavourless. The samosas were greasy. The chicken biryani taste like it was just chicken and rice cooked in chicken stock, with no depth or flavour - and the sauce that was served with it tasted like ketchup with some spices.

Food okay, but not as good as it used to be. The Biryani used to come with a vegetable sauce but now comes with some weird tomatoe sauce, which isn't nice. The garlic and coriander was hard and inedible. Portion sizes are smaller too.....

It was great being early I knew everywhere would be busy on Christmas eve so we appreciated it.

Missing peshwari naan and curry doesn’t taste as good as usual

The first time I ordered this meal it was much better. This time the amount of chicken was very little it was mainly sauce. And no pieces of mango. The chicken chunks was dry and stringy. The bhajis were not good and broken. The potatoes were tinned, not pleasant, fresh real potatoes absorb the flavour. Having said this the flavours are still great. I can only think the order was rushed.

Lovely meal and atmosphere, Ash is always a pleasure and provides superb service. Great dining experience and delightful ambience.

Curry was good but chips n rice where stone cold

First poor experience here. Have left positive reviews in the past but this time not so good. Food was only slightly warm despite being 10mins early. Naan's weren't available so ordered chips & have to say - pretty disappointed in the portion size for the price. I'm sure everything bar the chips portion will be better next time.

Shame as really good food. Still worth the wait though.

The food is always tasty and amazing from The Sultan, whether I eat in the restaurant or get the food delivered. I recommend their Lamb Madras, my favourite 5 Stars *****
