Sukhothai Chapel Allerton in Leeds

Sukhothai is a true gem for anyone craving vibrant vegan Thai food! The vegan pad Thai was absolutely delicious — a perfect mix of sweet, sour, and savory. The papaya salad was fresh and crunchy, with just the right amount of spice, and the vegan green curry was creamy and full of flavor, packed with fresh veggies. What really set the experience apart, though, was the amazing ambiance. The warm, inviting atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for a relaxed meal. Friendly service, authentic flavors, and a cozy vibe — definitely a must-visit for vegan Thai lovers!

We had dinner there on Saturday night with friends. We orderd starters and main. We noticd the tom Yum starter had shrunk in size since eating there last and tasted mediocre at best. My main which was V16 on the menu was a chilli basil based meal I ordered with tofu. The meal arrive warm not hot. It was not spicy despute 3 chilis on the menu. The basil taste was absent, it was bland. The tofu was soggy and gross. My wife had a different main also with tofu. Her meal was similarly bland with soggy tofu. We used to love the food here, but based on this experience we will not return EVER.

Took my famiily for buffet lunch on a Sunday! Most of the items were almost finished and though the staff was very polite and humble. We did not have good experience. The fried chicken was almost like wood. Hardly any desserts were left for the 1430 slot of the buffet. Never ever again!

My kids took me for Mothers Day. First-time visitor. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. Staff were so friendly and polite.

The food was nice, the atmosphere was beautiful and the service was good too. The staff were all nice and courteous too. My kids enjoyed the platter and the kids activities given.

The food and service was absolutely fantastic! You would think it would be a very expensive restaurant but it's affordable and amazing! When I visited there was a very kind lady with a pink jacket and white flower claw clip, she could not do her job any better! She was absolutely the nicest person I have ever met!

I’ve been to the Sunday buffet. Small but cosy, very nice serving people from the staff was very polite and respectful. The ambience is very nice with a small waterfall with fish very nice. However, not so many dishes to choose from and very few options for desserts. A small piece of advice is to add a few more dishes and more Thai desserts because are very good. Strongly recommend having a try.

Visited Sukhothai tonight as had heard a lot of good things. We ordered a sharing plater which only had 1 of each item (4 items in total) and came to £23.50! The panang curry was nice, but do not recommend the Gai Sukhothai which is on the chefs recommendation. Very plain dish with limited veg and sauce, almost just a chicken and rice plain dish. I feel this is very over priced for the £69 bill we had (we only drank water).

I have been here many times and I love it. The food and atmosphere is amazing, however please do better with hygiene, on two separate occasions I have found hair. Once in a spring roll and once in a curry sauce. Feels very off putting as I actually love the restaurant.

Had a wonderful meal here prior to going to Seven Arts theatre, that is only a few minutes walk away. Easy to reserve online, with friendly and welcoming staff. Food tasty, well cooked and served promptly. Will definitely return if in the area again.

By far one of the best Thai restaurants in Yorkshire; if not the best. The food is outstanding and the service is excellent.

Sukhothai food is amazing. However ordering through Deliveroo for some reason is a disaster. Again half our order did not arrive. Really disappointing when we waited for over 2 hours . We had planned a celebration with family and found ourselves without enough food.. I won't be ordering from them again, awful service.

Don't get a take away from this restaurant, complete rip off. Portion sizes are a pathetic, much smaller than they serve in restaurant and more expensive! Not good!

The food was delicious, but I asked for a jug of water after one Singha beer because I was driving, and it never arrived. I definitely objected to the "optional" 10% service charge because I thought optional means you actually get a choice!!! Overall, I felt I had been processed for profit extraction rather than treated as a valued customer. Such a shame.

Have visited Sukohotai a few times before. There was a mixup with the booking so nearly didn't get a table, after a wait a table was sorted. The service staff brought some prawn crackers which were complimentary, but did end up appearing on the bill. Presentation of dishes is very good, the Thai red curry was nice, and a good level of spice. Did wonder afterwards if I should have had the massaman curry instead. All the waiting staff were friendly and polite.

Loved the food and atmosphere! Pretty authentic feel, went twice on my recent trip to Leeds.

Nice ambience and decor for diners. Vegan options available.upon request, would be nice to incorporate ithe choices in the menu. I would also mention that on the past 2 occasions we have felt rushed although a table had been booked for an allocated time slot. Dining out is a treat and having the time to catch up with friends and family should be a relaxing experience. Will visit again and hope time will be given to enjoy the experience.

We haven't been here for a number of years. Went last night for our wedding anniversary. Had a lovely meal. Thank you for such good food.

Tasty and good food. There is special and the standard menu. The duck dishes are amazing and well put together, probably our favourite. The noodle dishes are also as fresh and nice. Overall the vegetables and proteins cooked perfectly. There is a buffet as well on certain days. The staff were great. Street parking available nearby.

Sukothai showcased an amazing display of not just some great mind blowing dishes but also heart warming hospitality. It was a very busy Saturday evening and we were a bunch of 6 who had mistaken a temporary booking request as confirmation. Instead of turning us out, the staff, specially a very sweet and a were very kind lady gave us a table. The food was so good and totally worth the embarrassment we caused ourselves. One of the best Thai restaurants outside Leeds city centre.

The food was amazing! however, from the beginning we had problems with our server, she didn't know what any of the spirits were on the drinks menu so we pointed out which ones we wanted with whatever mixer we wanted (3 malibu and cokes and 2 vodka cokes). then proceeded to take our food order, she only asked one of us if he wanted rice and walked away without asking the rest of us, we ended up with only 2 small bowls of rice for a table of 5. by this point our drinks hadn't arrived even though we asked another 2 times if we could get our drinks, after we had finished our food the drinks had still not arrived. along with other things that we asked for i.e. another bowl of rice and some spoons, very disappointed as we've heard many good reviews on this restaurant.

Normally I'd give this place a 5 out of 5 stars, but my recent visit was a little disappointing. I had booked and had the proof on my phone, but was made to feel like they were doing me a favour fitting me on, so felt not as welcome as usual. The food is immaculate, but the only criticism I have is about the meat spring rolls: they are crisp and hot, but quite tasteless. I can only taste the vegetables, but no meat. It is like they are overfilled with cabbage, and if I wanted that would just eat veg spring rolls. They are not cheap, thus while I enjoy the crunch, I won't be ordering them again (shouldn't have to use the accompanying dipping sauce just to get some flavour to an expensive starter).

Stopped by for a takeout recently and the food was 👌 We went off Sukhothai a few years ago but it is definitely back on form.

Got a Pad Mamuang Himmaparn Pak (veggie), asked for it hot. Was hot, nice even spice distribution, on top of being a very nice curry.

Had 2 starters and 2 mains, all were delicious, would say the panang curry was a bit too mild for me so maybe bit more spice and it would've been perfect :)

I've been coming here for a long time. Been a while since my last visit and don't think it is as good as it used to be. To pay just under £34 for a 3 person platter I thought the quality was disappointing and the fuge slice cake with ice cream for £6.50 fell below par for me. The main courses were great.

We came here for our special occasion. It was very busy on Saturday evening. Very kind staff and great service. All the dishes that we ordered were fantastic and would love to come back again. It is little more expensive compared to the other Thai restaurants in city centre but worth coming here. A lots of drinks options too!!!

We love this place. We've been going for over 20 years and it never disappoints. The prices have gone so expensive now that it has become a place for special occasions only. We used to go to the Sunday buffet almost every week but that's no longer on unfortunately 😫 we find the Chapel Allerton one is always the best atmosphere and our long standing Pat is usually working here too so have to say hello to her 🥰

Warm and atmospheric. Some lovely flavours. Dishes are well cooked and presented. Portions are modest. I think most dishes are slightly over priced given that the ingredients are themselves are not expensive and the portions not generous. Obviously very popular and well frequented nevertheless.

Good food, but overcrowded with tables on the night we arrived which made it feel overheated and slightly claustrophobic. You can't park outside but have to search for a legal space within a few hundred yards.

Miserable unfriendly staff, 2 running the front so under staffed, had they been a bit more attentive it would have been bearable. There's one particular sour faced small lady wearing green uniform, barely spoke but when she did she made minimal effort and almost looked down at us. Took a while to take our order, dishes were mediocre, even though we chose a few of the highlight dishes, cabbage barely chopped, large dirty leaves, not enough sauce to go with crispy chicken. Rice was crunchy. For somewhere you pay alot of money and then asked to pay service charge, the service was below average, and the food just okay. A smile from staff would make all the difference, or maybe an extra pair of hands.

Absolutely wonderful Tom Yum and Thai Green Curry. Service impeccable.

Nice restaurant and very welcoming staff. Extremely loud and very cramped when busy. The restaurant has limited on street parking options. The food was nice but DO NOT order soup. Holy cow is this BAD. It is boiled water with a hint of salt and some bits of vegetables and tofu or something tasteless in it. It costs over £6 and is a tiny portion size. Firstly, this not soup - it's barely edible! Secondly, soup has a thick gravy like consistency - this was dishwater lightly salted with some vegetables - some of which tasted absolutly horrible. WTH - seriously. It tasted awful. It was absolutly horrendous! It took all evening to try and forget how bad the soup was. Never had something quite so gross. The rest of the food was better and enjoyable to eat but portion sizes are quite small and should be bigger. The staff are a complete asset to this restaurant - they are lovely. For example the employee refilling cups of water without a customer even having to ask and then cleaning tables for example was great. The staff are polite and very respectful. Keep it up! I won't be returning but have provided constrictive feedback that could help improve the customer experience. Just take the soup off the menu, I should have asked for a refund for that - it was REALLY bad.

Delicious food, and not smothered in coriander like some places do. Wish the dishes had a bit more sauce, like the weeping tiger, but the are very tasty nonetheless.

Staff attentive and service was good. Lovely interior so was expecting a really nice authentic Thai meal. We had the mixed starters and they were no better than you would get in a supermarket. The main meal came. Tofu bland and tasteless but lovely sauce and veg. I had lamb shank which I was expecting to be full of Thai flavours and really it was very fatty and has no seasoning but again lovely sauce. We left a bit disappointed. Probably wouldn’t bother going back. Nothing wrong as such but nothing wow either.

Service ok. Took a while to take our order even though it wasn’t that busy. Ordered massaman curry with tofu. I always order this dish in thai restaurants, but this was the worst one I have had, completely tasteless. My daughter ordered a dish she had eaten there a few weeks earlier and had really enjoyed it as it was made with chicken breast, this time it was thigh meat and not as nice. The mango and rice dessert was tasteless. Will not be returning. Mommy thai or zaap in Leeds is far better.

I've eaten at Sukhothai many, many times and the food and service has always been excellent. I recently ordered a takeaway from the Chapel Allerton branch one Saturday night, and the time it took to arrive was better than they initially quoted me, which meant things started off great, and the service from the staff was great as always. I ordered the same starter and main course that I've eaten in the restaurant many times, and it's always been delicious. Unfortunately, these same dishes made as a takeaway were horrible! Both dishes tasted like a cheap take away meal, greasy and poorly presented. Given that the prices were the same as in the restaurant, I felt robbed, and it was incredibly poor value for money! It is a real shame to give such few stars, because as I said, when dining in, I've always found the food very delicious. Having said that, I don't think you should offer such an inconsistent service across your food delivery methods, and this poor experience ruined my evening meal. I will not order a takeaway from here again, and in future will stick to eating in the restaurant. 🤢

Service was ok. Ordered the Thai red curry - the chicken was very undercooked so unfortunately, I don't think I can bring myself to return. THankfully, They didnt charge me for the undercooked dish & also offered to make me up a new dish which I declined.

Was disappointed with our recent visit for the Sunday buffet. There were far too many people booked for our 2pm sitting, with some cutting the cue when there were already people waiting by the bar to take their alloted tables. It's not a big place and people were 2-3 deep snaking round tables best they could to be in line for the food, which sadly we didn't think was up to sukothai's usual standard. Didn't even get to order drinks as nobody even came to our table to ask if we wanted any, just water dropped at the table when we had almost finished. The branch in town is much better suited for the amount of covers for a Sunday buffet, which we had been to before it was cancelled and were more than happy. Sadly I can't recommend the Sunday buffet and will not be returning for this option.

Very very poor service, awful communication skills from the staff made the experience unbearable at some points. Our order was taken but then somehow never made it back to the kitchen! Eventually taken again after 40 minutes. Promised noodles and rice for free because of the incompetence however as expected they appeared on the bill along with a 10% service charge! Couldn’t be bothered to argue so just paid and left, food was really nice however but very expensive for what it is. Unlikely to be going back…

Went 6th May 2022 for a meal with my partner. Service was poor, we had to keep calling waitress over and asking for our meals, we ordered set menu A so was a mix of starters and mains. First part of service was great, brought the drinks quickly and the first starters and then it was like we were forgotten about. We had to ask them to clear the table and then ask them for our mains to be brought out. After the mains they cleared the table and left us 15 minutes we had to call them over and ask them for dessert which it then took half an hour to bring out ice cream. We had to ask them for refills of drinks, we weren't asked how the meal was or if we needed anything during our time there. Food was okay but nothing good enough to recommend to anyone or for us to visit again. It was as if there was just no service at all. Between work and children we don't get very often to go out for a meal so we were really looking forward to this unfortunate it was a huge let down. It is a lovely clean unique little restaurant and could be a lovely place.

Delicious with professional staff

visited on a friday evening with no reservation, they kindly found us a table, was asked if we had allergies upon arrival and we stated milk and egg allergies, waitresses were kind and friendly and after ordering, they promptly came back to tell us what we ordered was not suitable because of allergies, they offered alternative options and we waited a short time for our food, the starter was delicious crispy vegetables and after we finished our plates were taken and we waited another short while for the mains, main courses were delicious and there were plenty of vegan and vegetarian options, we were very pleased and would love to visit again!

Restaurant was busy but that said staff were friendly and we were well catered. Food was delicious (particularly the pork belly) . Would definetly go again.

An established and competent local chain. The food is well executed but feels dumbed down for the western palate. Expect efficiency not fireworks.

Okay but nothing special. Sweetcorn cakes were pureed. Main yellow curry was nothing like a yellow curry and no meat. Dessert was good but not homemade. Nice drinks. In all, exspensive for what it was.
