Proper nice little pub, real friendly people. Been here a few times as good truck parking overnight over the road, cant believe more of the truckers don’t use it as they do food and also have live sky sport.

Well where to start. The stump has been my local for more than 40 years. I’ve seen them come and I’ve seen them go. The last 3 years have been very good but alas it’s been taken over by new licences again, Laura and Elisha. We tried the new food menu and WOW! It was amazing. I had the curried goat and my wife had the lambs liver and mash. Absolutely delicious. A grand selection of bar food throughout the week is now available and I just can’t wait to try the Sunday lunch. The new chefs are outstandingly good. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I do hope that they have every success in this new venture. I do recommend that you give it a try.

Visited the Stump Cross for the first time yesterday for Sunday lunch and we were not dissapointed. We both had roast pork with cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, peas and roast potatoes and Yorkshire pud! And it was delicious and so was the 2 pints of leeds Pale Ale. The pub was quite busy when we left so I would advise booking a table. We will definitely visit again!!! Nearly forgot... The apple crumble was excellent.

First let's give the benefit of doubt, and say maybe it was just a bad day in the kitchen. But as our party all felt the same way about our meal we are posting this review for the benefit of others, including the guys that run the pub. One big issue with the overall meal was the lack of seasoning in everything on the plate. We were fighting over the salt and pepper from start to finish, which helped a little but really this needs some attention at the stove not the table. To be fair and honest let it be said that the actual ingredient elements are of high quality, they just failed to reach their potential due to poor attention during the cooking process. Hopefully the chef will get a spice rack for Christmas and give the food a taste-check before sending it out, as it really was rather bland. Another kitchen issue was the under cooking of vegetables. Shame really, as there was a good selection on the plate but all were equally missing a little more oven time than they were given. We all turn out a crunchy carrot now and again, but here we were served a full spectrum of broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, potatoes - each and every one was underdone to the point of being 'too hard to enjoy', including the mash, bizarrely. So maybe a veg timer to go with the spice rack would help, along with that taste check prior to plating up. Away from the kitchen (to give the poor chef a break) there was an issue with portion management that stood out to all our party. The starring role should go to the roast meat, but it was a little lost and lonely amongst the massed ranks of super sized veg portions which occupied most of the plate. It seemed each of us were given a whole head of broccoli, half a cauli and a family portion of carrot and cabbage - had it been well cooked and seasoned we might have done it some justice, but to be honest it was still too 'big' on the plate for our liking. The gravy was good. The lumpy white stuff in the pyrex jug was not, and we failed to identify it either as bread or cheese sauce. It might have been there to soften the mash, not sure really. Across those issues it left us disappointed to eat here, but there is a lot of potential to get back on the track towards good food. The pub is a very nice environment to be in - really clean, light and airy, a very welcoming and pleasant place to be. The beer is good, and it should be too, as it is more expensive than other local pubs. If we 'did it different' we would switch from the current pile-it-high but cook-it-quick approach. Focus on the flavour and the processes to produce a reduced array of better finished veg on a more balanced plate with the roast meat as the star. It's obvious these guys actually want to get it right, as the quality of the raw ingredients is clear and their generosity can't be faulted. The service is quick, efficient, friendly. The pub is clean, welcoming and a pleasant place to be. We were so looking forward to some home-cooked fresh Sunday Lunch but were let down on our visit, this time.

Last Friday we came here and enjoyed a couple of drinks. We were served by the Landlord and he was nice and friendly and taking care cleaning. We thought we'd take our two dogs as we had before, only, I stepped through the door and sanitized my hands. The unfriendly bar maid, said dogs weren't allowed. We could sit in the beer garden she said. This we did. I sat with the dogs and my partner went in for the drinks. Moments later there was shouting. Apparently, he'd used the 'exit only' door. Ok, well why wasn't there a sign to say it was exit only. The bar woman came out shouting and swearing. I was mostly calm and said we should just go. The shouting continued. My partner gave as good as he got but the whole thing was very unexpected and unnecessary. I've never seen such an irate member of staff in my life. That woman should be sacked. We won't be going again.

Haven't been to this pub in about 4 years but both my dad and myself decided to give it a go today for lunch. Walked in to be greeted by Dan and the pub dog, Bailey. Pub had just been refurbished and looked really good. Dan was so friendly and confirmed he'd only been in there a couple of months. As the menu was small we asked what the specials were. Still didn't fancy anything so the Chef asked what we fancied. He then went and made us what we'd asked for - gammon, eggs and chips. I can honestly say this was the best pub meal I've had - in fact we both agreed and believe me my dad isn't easy to please lol. Would highly recommend this pub for the food, the friendly atmosphere, the decor and the beautiful friendly Bailey who sat with us during most of our visit. If you've visited this pub before and was not impressed please try again under new management. You won't be disappointed

Sobresaliente.

We called in here on a cold, dark, Saturday evening. The welcome was warm as was the pub. I noticed some people eating a pizza and it looked so delicious I thought I'd try one. I asked if I could take it out as I didn't want it right away. Not a problem. They have taken pizzas to another level. I get tired of ordering a thin and crispy pizza and still getting a thick doughy base. The bases here really are thin and crispy and absolutely delicious. Plenty of toppings, and are just perfection. If you want to take one home with you that's not a problem either. They are all cooked to order and you can have a drink whilst you wait. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Went for dinner as a stop off on a trip to the airport to break up the journey. Read reviews and thought it looked decent. Got there, and was slightly under whelmed, the place looked nice but didn't feel able to get comfortable, odd atmosphere. Food menu was limited and they didn't have a card payment machine, when the food arrived it wasn't great but 2 x adult meals and 2 x kids meals for £15, what could you expect. One pint of cider and one pint of lemonade for the driver was over £5, little steep. Overall, didn't enjoy the stop off and wished we knew about the collection of restaurants 2 miles down the road.

Used to be lovely but new owners don’t have a clue. Whilst the food is okay, everything else has gone down hill. Menu wise I’d suggest you advertise a quiche as a quiche, not a tart. You don’t stand a chance of hearing your party, the acoustics are shocking. As for the clientele it’s full of screaming and I mean screaming brats. So if you fancied a nice relaxing lunch with friends, I’d suggest somewhere else because it won’t happen. And the owners don’t care, that’s the sad part. Perhaps you need to advertise that you are more of a crèche than an overpriced cafe.
