Best fish and chips in Suffolk so far. We had haddock, chips, and peas. Huge portion, All very enjoyable, we will return from Ipswich.

I believe under new management. The fish and chips are the best we've had in years. The batter and the fish was excellent the chips we're excellent as well we will be returning again. Don't change what you are doing they are perfect 👌

I go once a week. There are fish and chip shops closer but Stowupland is top quality. The owners are very friendly and polite.

I was in the area only because I was buying a car nearby and stopped here for lunch. It was such a lucky find. The team are friendly and knowledgeable and advised that their haddock was excellent. I don't normally go for haddock but tried it on their recommendation. The battered haddock was delicious. It was made to order, fresh and hot. The crispy batter was so light and not at all greasy. The fish was so fresh and sweet. Pricing for the fish is by weight. My large piece of haddock was under £7 and amazing value. The chips were good value and hot and tasty. My friend enjoyed their cheese and onion fried pancake. This is a real gem of a fish and chip shop. Please give it the custom it deserves. If I lived closer I would be back frequently: I will pop by when I'm next in the area.

I found out that this shop sold GF Fish and have thoroughly enjoyed a few meals over recent months. However, Friday 7th Jan 2022 was different. I tried to phone ahead to order GF but no reply on several occasions. I drove 8 miles to the shop and found myself in a long queue. Quite happy to wait my turn. After waiting 15 minutes to order, I asked an assistant for GF Cod. The shop owner, angrily commented that "I don't do Gluten Free between 5-8pm on a Friday". I can understand this but he then snapped "I've been clear about this, many times!" I did not need to be spoken to like this. I then bough my meal elsewhere.

This is the best Fish and Chip shop I've been to, everything is cooked to perfection and the staff are friendly and helpful. We visit here every week or two over lunch, and it's certainly popular, in spite of being slightly out the way. They also sell sacks of potatoes during the winter months and these are also excellent. Try it - you won't regret it!!

Outstanding haddock and chips, crisp batter, firm fish, non greasy. Cheerful staff an added bonus. Nothing like a bit of gay banter.

This chippy is a absolutely delicious easily one of the best fish and chip shops in the hole of east anglia!!!! As a delivery driver that’s tried most chippy’s around Norfolk Suffolk and Essex Cambridgeshire this easily goes into my top 5 possibly top 3 , can’t wait to deliver near again delicious chips how they should taste excellent prices and excellent friendly welcoming staff !!!! Should of tried years earlier love it

We stopped here mid driving lesson to try the local fodder as my student recommended it, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprise with possibly the best chip shop chips I've had in yonks. We got sausage and chips, and fishcake and chips for less than a fiver, everything was well cooked and had flavour too, some chippys serve you barely cooked white flavourless potato mush and almost cooked sausages, this, however, as you can see was all nicely cooked which gave it extra flavour, the chips were golden brown more so than they look in the photo, and my battered sausage had a very nice light batter with proper crunch, and wasn't greasy at all. I don't give high praise easily, but this was well deserved, and even the customer service was bang on. If I'm anywhere near this chippy again, I'll be going back in there for sure. I think this is my first review with all ratings at maximum, and I've been to some posh nosh places too that should have been scored like this, but let themselves down in one form or another, this place is bang on in all departments.

Our cod and chips was cooked to order and we could not fault it, the batter was crispy and the cod and chips were cooked perfectly. It was easy to find with a Sign on the main road.

This is the best fish and chips in Stowmarket/Stowupland. It’s always busy so that shows how good they are, very very tasty and not greasy at all.

We popped in opportunistically and were delighted with the service. This little chip shop is a real find! Even with social distancing they were friendly and welcoming. The fish and chips were delicious we will definitely make it a regular!:))

We've use this fish shop many times the food is beautiful, what put us off in the end was rudeness of the older female server.Customer service is key and there is no need for the way she speaks to people, this isn't the first time I've noticed this. Will not be returning for this reason, shame really as the food is good quality

Always pop in when we are in the area. Only shame is they don't offer salt and vinegar before wrapping like other places!

The food in this shop just has to be experienced! The chips are excellent, the batter on the fish is crispy without risk of bending teeth, and the fish is succulent! I haven't had the chance YET! to try any other of their offerings as I'm far too impressed by the fish! :-)

A superb Fish and Chip shop in Stowupland with fun staff and the best grub ever. The chips are divine and the portions huge. Batter is perfect and the fish is second to none. Will always use this shop.

I visit the Fish Bar, every time I visit Stowmarket, since 2001, it is a long way to travel from Sydney, Australia.

On recommendation from various friends in Debenham we tried this chippy. Ideal if you are on your way home Debenham from Stowmarket, otherwise a 15 min trip. Either order by phone or as soon as you get there. Excellent fish and chips well priced and friendly service

I'd heard good things about Stowupland chippy so, despite living within a few hundred metres of two chip shops in Needham Market, I decided to go the extra mile (or two) and pay it a visit. There was a shop full of customers waiting and several more waiting outside so I was expecting good things and I wasn't disappointed. The fish (my large haddock was actually a HUGE haddock) was delicious. The batter was crispy and light and it wasn't greasy as it had been allowed to stand for a few minutes to dry after cooking. The fish was cooked to order and the chips were top rate. Everyone in the shop was smiling, they knew what was coming :) I wont be going anywhere else for my fish and chips after this.

On holiday locally at swallows barn, this chip shop was reccomended as a stop off instead of cooking, great sausage and chips with friendly service. Resonable prices and selection, parking outside.

Great food and service. The Food was crispy but not greasy. They cook most things fresh, so there will be a few minutes wait. But well worth the wait. They do not accept cards, but they didn't make a big deal out of it. I placed my order and they directed me to the nearest cash point. Highly recommended.

Only thing that a found a bit annoying after ordered my food every time a local popped in and the staff knew them i had to wait longer as it seemed the locals had priority.

This is now my go to place for Fish and Chips, everything is fish and the chips are always good quality.

This chippy is good. Good prices, good variety, good service handy opening hour of 4:15 pm. The only thing I do not like is that they serve THE most disgusting saveloys I have EVER tasted. Utter mush. It was so mushy that the skin served as a tunnel to scrape the 'sausage' out with your teeth. You could not bite the sausage at all. It obviously had too high a bread content, too low a meat content and as usual with many cheaper saveloy sausages, too much pepper. My dog will eat anything and I wouldn't even give it to him after two bites. I threw it in the bin. This was definitely the WORST saveloy I have ever had in my life.

Picked up pre ordered take away meals for 9 people. Beautiful quality fish well cooked in a light batter. All freshly cooked, hot and appetising. Friendly service and good value too. Thank you!

Nothing is to much trouble, I work with people with learning disabilities who like the fish to be skinless and they always accommodate without question. Ring ahead as timings matter to our clients and they are always ready when I arrive. Thank you. Matt

People travel some distance to buy from here - for good reason. The quality is consistently excellent, modest prices and the only downside is having to queue because they are almost-always so busy. Highly-recommended!

You need to order your fish before joining the queue as it is usually cooked to order - so never dried out, always spot-on. The banter in the queue is often entertaining too which is a bonus. Highly recommended.

On holiday so googled and found this fish and chip shop. Had to wait for my order which was freshly fried and I must say that the fish and chips were excellent, staff very friendly and the shop was clean and tidy. Easy parking. The only down side was the mushy peas which were bland with hardly any flavour of peas. I still think it deserves five stars for the quality of the food.

Some parking on forecourt but no parking restrictions on the road so most people park there. Allow yourself a few minutes as the shop is usually busy. There is no restaurant. 'Take-away' only.

Stopped one evening to pick up cod & chips and Rock & chips for 4 people. Shop itself very modern and clean. Lots of people queuing so assumed must be good. Chips were OK but both fishes were grey fleshed and tasteless. Some portions were definitely over cooked as fish had no moisture left and looked almost burnt. Long time since eaten bad fish n chips. Won't be returning.

Without doubt the best piece of Haddok Ihave had in ages. It was cooked to order, not rushed, and was worth the wait. Chips too were lovely, and the staff very polite. A great Friday night experience. I would recommend a visit this chippy.

Went there for the first time last Friday on recommendations from others. When we unwrapped the fish and chips at home the chips were rather soft and greasy and really not tasty. The fish was very light battered which was ok. The portions were good. I don't think we will be back again as we had better elsewhere in Stowmarket.

Fresh fish, Cod, Plaice, Haddock, Skate and Rock Eel (Huss), not discounting burgers, sausages, pancake rolls etc. Sizes of the fish for most pallets or special size if you talk to Martin the owner who will try to oblige.

We have eaten fish & chips at many establishment in the Eastern counties, and this particular establishment is by far the best. I believe it's all in the batter recipe, which is delicious. I might be wrong, but it could be a 'Tempura' type recipe? The only downside is the time you have to wait, if you haven't a pre-ordered meal. However, the wait is well worth while, and I highly recommend this chippy.

Great chippy but not as good as it once was price wise you can't go wrong. Fresh fish 90% of the time Savaloy only thing that I don't enjoy as there microwaved And no gravy or beans!

The chips taste like the inside of Borris Johnsons left testie, and i would rather lick the queens muff whilst being violently fisted by Prince Charles than eat that dry rubbish they call fish.

This place is great, they do wonderful fish and chips with great service. Friday nights can be a bit busy, but it's worth the wait. Much of the fish is cooked to order and they have a good selection of fish in different sizes suitable for all appetites.

We can only tell about the fish and chips as we only went once.The portions were more than adequate and were reasonably priced.Service was quick in spite of being busy.

My hubby and I called in here as have done before many times. We have always in the past rang our order through then collected about half hour later. On this occasion we had walked from town (about 2miles) and as chippy was on route to home called in. We had to order the large cod even though they had only been open about an hour had to wait while it was cooked about 20 mins plus. I guess we've never noticed this before due to ordering in advance but do feel they should have all sizes fish ready cooked for customers especially early in the evening. That said I would def recommend as the food was and always is exceptional, but I do know of customers they have lost by not pre cooking some fish at peak times.

Fish is usually cooked to order so make sure you put your order in as soon as you go in. Be prepared to wait for 10 minutes or more whilst the fish is cooked and be warned that it can get very busy with school children at lunch time. Having said that the fish is superb - in my humble opinion far better than the famous Aldeburgh fish and chips which tend to be greasy. I have always found the chips to be excellent and one portion is more than enough for 2 (especially for those on a token diet!).Service is great with lots of friendly banter and price is very reasonable.
