We were ready for a coffee after a visit to the adjacent John Knox House, and it was raining out so decided to take advantage of the cafe. The coffee drinks were carefully made and were above average, but the fruit scones were large, a lovely texture, and tasty. The only thing that could have been improved was a bit of clotted cream instead of packaged butter. Otherwise, everything was cozy and delicious...

Walking down the Royal mile we chose this coffee shop instead of others nearby as it is run by a charity and looked rather interesting. A good menu offering hot and cold food, we ordered hot drinks which were very nice and reasonably priced. Would recommend to others.

We called in here for a snack after arriving in Edinburgh. On the tables there are jars of stones which are there for visitors (grown ups and children!) to make their own stories. It's a family friendly cafe with good food. I had tea and cake (gluten free is available) at a very reasonable price. The staff were very friendly. The other bonus is that all the profuts from the cafe go to a local community project called Comas.

We had the lemon & ginger tea, a fruit scone and a cheese scone and both were great. Staff is friendly and their profits go to helping a local foundation Comas.

Went in for breakfast and had some of the cheese scones. They were really light and fluffy, and possibly the best scones I have ever tasted! They were still warm out of the oven and the butter melted into them perfectly. Worth a visit just for them!

Walked out after being ignored at our table, 20 minutes after we were given menus. People who arrived after us were served before us. Not the friendly welcome we were promised by the boards outside!

At the festival the wind was blowing and our tummies were rumbling. The story cafe offered refuge from the gales. Entering on her own, a few minutes before me, my mother is led to 'the most interesting table'; it is covered in old comic book pages.

It was virtually impossible to rest somewhere quiet on a busy Sunday along the Royal Mile. Found this great little café and had a little snack. The scone was freshly baked and quite lovely. The atmosphere inside was quiet and serene, nice contrast to the street scene outside.

We had a perfect lunch there, the food is great (some of the best cakes we ate in Edinburgh), staff is friendly and the place itself is worth coming for its philosophy (profits given to charity organizations), the library, paintings, shows... a very nice surprise !

This little place was great to stop for a quick coffee and a bite to eat. The menu was varied and all the food is homemade. There are a lot of vegan and gluten free options which is great for me! I had a vegan brownie one day and a lovely cup of coffee. My mum had a scone which she really enjoyed. We then had lunch another day where I had a vegan lentil curry which was amazing and filling. Loved it, highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast at this really special place. The view through the window onto the High Street is great. Activities for children are on display and you can create your story using words written on pebbles in a jar. We had two pieces of very delicious amazing homemade bread toasted with avocado and we also added an egg and bacon. We also had a fried banana with peanut butter. Loved it!! Try it yourself :-)

We had a short period of time before we needed to catch our train home, and since the John Knox house and this adjoining cafe were close to our hotel, we went there. The John Knox house was interesting in itself, but the coffee was outstandingly good. Had we not just had breakfast, the cakes would have been very tempting. We also bought two lovely children's books in the bookshop. We will definitely go back there next time we are in Edinburgh. Allow about an hour and a half. In retrospect we could have had the audio guide for £1.

Located in the John Knox house, a nice place for lunch and a quiet break break from the tartin tat shops on the Royal Mile. The bookstore has a delightful selection of Scottish stories myths and legends. By one and head back into the pleasant cafe for a nice lunch of tea break. You can also tour the house.
