A great pub, the food was amazing and the staff are a pleasure.

We booked stones for a family anniversary meal. We made it a surprise vow renewal ceremony too. The staff were amazing from start to finish. They helped us to plan the meal and helped us set up the room for a ceremony then changed it to a dining area while we had drinks. The 3 course set menu was delicious and they were able to accommodate a few picky eaters, our children and one of our family members who is coeliac. Nothing was too much hassle. The day went smoothly and staff attended to all our needs. It was a lovely atmosphere and our meal was amazing. Cannot thank them enough for their help and hospitality.

I was asked to re do my review of this restraunt . Because i got steak and ale pie mixed up with steak and haggis pie with Guiness inside. The table was dirty with like gravy stains etc , i can live with that , all the Lights are covered in spiders webs and debris . The walls need a refresh as they are purple and it shows the dirt . The stairs all the way up to get inside are quite dirty , carpet could be doing with a clean . Toilets werent so fresh . Staff hanging around doing nothing instead of cleaning the cobwebs etc . Our young lady who served us was very polite and was more than happy to serve us . So that was a bonus . It just lacks a good clean and maybe a paint up . I wont go back . But some cleaning is required . And yes it definately was Stones bar and grill . Not The Stonehouse .

The burgers from here are great, packed with flavour. Staff here are really friendly also, will definitely be back.

The restaurant is situated within the bellsquarry on Calder road on the second floor it’s well sign posted and the staff Cheryl and Laurie are both great very friendly and approachable. The restaurant can accommodate couples upto family sized parties. The food was incredible I went for the fillet steak medium rare with the peppercorn sauce (see pics and vids)and compliments to the chef for the meal it was cooked perfect, and washed down with a pint of Tennant’s. I would highly recommend them the offer steak to chicken and macaroni catering the traditional pub grub, starters and desserts drinks and cocktails with a kids menu and also an outdoor beer garden.

Used to love this restaurant when they had the bar downstairs. Was very disappointed to arrive to find half the restaurant was now getting used as for a bar area. Children who were with people from the bar area running in with wet feet. While we were eating the waitress was mopping the floor around us. Bar clientele were very rowdy and music was too loud. Food was very basic. I had fish, chips and peas, small piece of fish, chips were all crispy and I think they forgot to stop when adding peas as this was the largest portion I have ever seen. Waitress was lovely but sorry we won’t be back……ever!!!

Visited for my son's birthday despite being slightly hesitant to go back here based on our 1st visit a year ago. However experience was completely different this time. Food and service were good, would consider again.

Had a voucher from Xmas and was sooooo looking forward to coming back here, not a pleasant evening. Sat beside a rowdy, too much to drink family, we did get to move to a different table, along with other guests too. Fillet steaks ordered medium/rare, partners was well over cooked, had to send it back, the wine list was poor, the sticky toffee pudding was nothing like it used to be, ordered a side of onion rings that were put on table way before we got our steaks came back out. Started was fine, serviced was fine too.

Just returned from Sunday dinner at Stones Bar & restaurant, food was very tasty & service was amazing we all had varied starters Bon Bon’s, Tomato bruschetta, Coconut & Chilli soup & cheesy garlic bread all hot & very tasty. Hubby & I had the roast sharer it had loads of meat beef, gammon & chicken all veg & dauphinoise potatoes & roasties very tasty & worth the £30.50. Steak ciabatta with chips & Hunters chicken burger with chips again all top notch 👌🏻..we have always been regular customers to stones & have to say the new management have still got it right please give this place a try & keep a local business alive

We as a family were all given vouchers for Xmas and so looking forward to a family meal. We were told that there was only 2 ribeye steaks and 4 fillets left. Very disappointing on a Friday night to be informed of this. Some of us had to change our order. They also had no onion rings and coffee machine was broken. Starters were bland and only mac and cheese or halloumi burger for veggie options!!! Steak was OK but could get better elsewhere for less than £30!!! We won't be back.

Very nice atmosfera, good food, not very busy probably because it's not the cheapest place but I felt it was worth it.

We contacted Stones 6 weeks ago to book a private room for a 60th Birthday Party. On the day of the booking we went up and set up the room moving furniture decorating balloons etc. We then showed up that night for the planned birthday meal to be told we no longer had the room as it had been double booked, they had removed the decorations and put them in the main restaurant. The table they had decided to move us to wasn’t even set up. This was for a party of 15 people, we got no apology from the team that was on they actually questioned us on when we made the booking and who we spoke to. There attitude was shocking and due to this I will not be back.

Stones was one of my favourite restaurants but unfortunately I will not be back. There seems to have been a decline in the standard of food served and a few members of staff need to go on a Customer Services refresher course. Lack of an experienced Senior Manager is apparent and this is probably where the problems above stem from.

Ordered posh fish & chips, should have been pish and chips,fish was over cooked,and dry, square plates,with no edge,so half your food ends up on the table,won't be recommending this place to anyone, waitress also forgot our mushrooms,

Fantastic food and fantastic service as always. Stones is now No.3 on Tripadvisor for Livingston behind a cookery school and a Thai. Cheryl is always accommodating and couldn't do enough for us today. They have great offers during the week and superb roasts on Sundays.

Will never set foot in this place again. Cajun Chicken breast looked like it had been sitting under a heatlamp for 15 mins, fries were frozen French fries, my wife's fish was so greasy and tasteless, same fries as myself, no other option, French fries with all dishes. Resturant actually smelt of grease and was not warm either, toilets and general cleanliness of the place is poor. Service was average at best, 2x food orders wrong, onion rings were disgusting, full of grease. Grossly overpriced for below average food. No surprise really that it was virtually empty on a Saturday night. Reviews look fairly consistent and wished I'd actualy checked them before booking. Extremely poor all round

My wife and I visited Stones for the first time on Saturday 17th Feb. It will be the last time we do. Before I start I want to say this review does not in anyway reflect on the excellent waiting staff, nor the manager, they were very friendly, professional and helpful. This place is lucky to have them, because the rest of this reflects solely on the food and the restaurant itself. The online menu is completely different to the menu you receive on arrival. We chose Stones for our Anniversary evening because of the menu online, and a few positive nods from friends. Where to start, well starters is always the right place. My wife ordered the "Chargrilled King Prawns on a sizzling skillet with Garlic Ciabatta" What she actually received was, no sizzling skillet, but a small oblong plate which comprised of 5 pan fried Prawns, which seemed coated in, well not sure really. (certainly didn't appear to be king), wilted sad looking rocket, drizzled with a sauce of some kind, and a straight out of a packet into the oven tiny crusty finger roll and a piece of butter. As you can imagine when this arrived my wife and I were extremely underwhelmed and slightly miffed. I had Haggis bon bons, and although deep-fried for slightly too long was in the most part really tasty and looked very nice on the plate, the peppercorn mayo was really nice to be fair. So we knew from this that the chef could prepare and cook properly. Onto the main course my wife, opted for the "Chargrilled Chicken Caesar salad, with Romaine lettuce, lashings of Caesar sauce, crispy croutons and crispy bacon. I feel for my wife, because what she received was a small bowl of what appeared to be wilted lettuce, a drizzle of Caesar dressing no croutons, and barely cooked bacon, definitely not crispy. To finish the piece off a piece of what again appeared to be pan fried in some sort of oil sliced chicken breast. Again it definitely was not Chargrilled. I opted for the sirloin steak. At £26.95 it's not the most expensive, but definitely not cheap. Oh also different to the online menu is that to actually have chips, mash potatoes etc they have now added £3.95 the online menu. States it comes.with the meal. To then to add a Diane sauce that racks up a further £3.95 too, giving a nice grand total of £34.85. whilst sat waiting for our food I was inspired that I would be receiving something different, something special as all the steaks coming out were on wooden boards, with lettuce, tomato's, and the stones rustic chips in a nice little metal basket, very appealing and decorative. How wrong I was. My steak was served on a cold square plate, wilted rocket(there's a trend here/) which had no dressing at all. The chips, were to me simply frozen skin on fries. They were scattered onto the plate, with no thought to the aesthetic of the presentation. The fries were stuck together and as well as the few overcooked ones they were full of bits of fries too. Again in fairness the steak was cooked how I'd asked for it to be and the Diane sauce was quite nice too. We did speak to the manager and we did voice our concerns. It appears that the chef and the owner are in the middle of a menu dispute and the chef just changes things to suit their agenda. Very disappointed and very peeved that our anniversary evening went the way it did. Will we be back? No. Would I recommend? No not after that.

Ordered the surf and turf with fillet steak, came out an overcooked sirloin, got it changed to the fillet I asked for and the rare I asked . This was done as a knowing mistake. Have to pay extra for sides a wee bit of green garnish comes with a £34 steak shocking won't be back . Don't recommend.

Met with friends to watch the football great selection of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages staff friendly and helpful unfortunately didn’t eat on this visit so can’t comment on food

Visited last night with other half. Had booked a table online for 6.30. We arrived and were shown our table. Waitress quickly took our drinks order. I ordered garlic bread with cheese which was reasonably priced but i do think for 3 haggis bonbons and loads of lettuce it was a bit over priced at £9. I think for Livingston that was quite expensive. Don’t get me wrong they were nice but over priced. For main the hubby got the build your burger, which he said was nice, i had steakaroni which wasn’t what i expected, it was bolognaise pasta and cheese on top, similar to lasagne. It was really tasty but i think at £18.95 it was overpriced. It did come with some lettuce and small baby tomatoes and chips. After we said no dessert our bill was brought to us which i do think was a bit cheeky almost like they were wanting the table back. I think, they should wait until customers actually ask for their bill. Would return, as a special occasion but overall do think the prices are too high for where they are. What i will say is that the staff are friendly and really nice.

Food was lovely, but did take a while to arrive. Toilets were clean, but really do need upgrading.

Live local and wanted to try here for a while. Absolutely over priced for what you get.£7.50 for bruschetta- a bit ciabatta will use the word ciabatta loosely with way too much rocket and not worth the price. Next we had the skewers and the rib eye steak at a whopping £28 oh plus extra for your steak sauce. Resembled a thin cut sirloin from Sainsbury’s for £3.50 a disgrace. Oh and the ‘rustic chips’ were frozen chips not even as good as McCains skin on fries. £89 for two courses and two glasses of house wine - we are not in Edinburgh city centre absolutely over priced and not worth the money. Only positive the waitress was lovely. AVOID AVOID.

Well, were do I start lovely welcoming pub, food was amazing honestly the steak I had was 4 times as good as ones that I have paid for in so called highend places in the city, Great staff and service, Would definatly visit again.

Stopped by here last night before attending five sisters zoo , and oh my what a little gem of a place. Food was absolutely delicious z my daughter being so fussy was very happy with the chicken and mozzarella sticks , I had the macaroni 😋 amazing and hubby had the hunter chicken burger left very happy tummies. Was here for a works night out. Natalie was brilliant and served us our food and drinks quickly all night. Absolute hero.

I like this place, it definitely tries hard to be part of the community and bring decent food to the locals. Let me be clear - I will come back and eat. It’s trying too hard and missing the mark though. Food is fine. Not bad, but not worthy of the city prices they apply. Example £9 for three small haggis bon bons. £3 a pop! Really ? Burgers are nice, but the meat itself has halved in size. The seasoning on the chips is sweet… what’s that all about? Staff are lovely and friendly.

We picked it out because of the “good rating” but were disappointed. 1. Is the bar separate from the restaurant. There are also two different entrances. Unfortunately, none of the staff told us this, which is why we were half an hour late despite having a reservation. 2. Little food for a lot of money. After our meals we were still hungry! We were so upset that we went to McDonald’s afterwards. The food itself was good, but nothing special. 3. The waitress in the bar was unfriendly and unhelpful. The waiter in the restaurant, however, made an effort. The ambience was just average, but we didn't feel comfortable at the beginning due to the situation.

Had a lovely birthday meal at this restaurant - modern decor, good atmosphere. Staff were very welcoming and great service - Natalie was extremely helpful and even suggested a few cocktails for me to try. Great size portions, steak was great and have recommended to a few friends to try out too! Only issue was we could hear the music from downstairs booming through but I guess it was almost 9 at night!

People tell me the food here is amazing, but I thought it was absolutely average, and that is being generous. The menu is very limited with some overly fanciful names to try and justify the pricing. If you like a menu with a lot of options and/or generous portions, this is not the place for you. Please check out the menu before you go! I had the Hunters chicken burger, it was fine, but nothing special, the brioche bun was dry and would have been good for breadcrumbs, the chips were a child's portion served in a small basket. However, the staff were very friendly and helpful. My overall experience was OK, but I wouldn't go back or recommend it to friends.

We visited for a Sunday roast, and everything was absolutely delicious. We had picanha, which came with a perfectly cooked Yorkshire pudding, nice veg, and an amazing gravy. Couldn't have asked for better. I only deducted an atmosphere star because sadly the place was basically empty, but it really didn't deserve to be!!

First time I had been food was lovely but felt they could have had a simpler menu as well as not everyone enjoys fancy food

Not sure if this is under new Management but language was pathetic pathetic and foul at bar with the chap taking orders. Food was well below par and had a better burger at Macdonald's. Sat with jackets while staff were to busy to bother about guests. Only 2 in but not never again.

The bar area was poor…the music was far far too loud to the point it’s redic! So much so that we and 2 other tables complained of the loudness of the juke box (a group of 3 guys, 2 couples and us complained), but apparently it’s their bar!! If this place has any aspirations to be anything but a local boys club then this place needs to be professional and to not actually annoy customers…

Was here to celebrate my 50th & my mum’s birthday. Food was awesome and the night made even more special with the added touches of complimentary wine and the attention to detail for deserts.Staff were very attentive. Would highly recommend, foid & service is second to none.

First thing is it’s extremely overpriced for half portions. Then there’s the Fawlty Towers experience service…probably could have three episodes whilst we waited for two bowls of stock water with a bit potato thrown in. Main courses eventually arrived with the medium steak being extremely well done and the Cajun Chicken was closer to a vegetarian dish as there was plenty cheese and sauce but not much chicken. Side of frozen onion rings straight from the crematorium, obviously forgot they were cooking like the well done steak. The ‘rustic chips’ fries were passable. Slow service, overpriced small portions. Shame because it’s a nice setting with plenty polite staff.

We went there for a nice dinner, and were fairly unsatisfied. 1. My wife ordered bruscetta with tomatoes - received very soggy with mushrooms instead - ate as she did not like the idea of putting the food to the bin. 2. I ordered rare-medium steak. I have to say - never I had a steak where in one piece I had rare on one side going to very well done on the other end. 3. 2x apple crumble were good. 4. They use white table cloth!! I wanted to go back due to that but my wife said no lovers way. Since that time I have spoken with few people who were there few more times and said that their experience was negative. Pitty as I wanted to go back.

Ridiculously slow service and tiny portions. £18 for a stupidly tiny portion of sea bass. Lucky if it was a quarter of a sea bass. A joke how small the portion was in relation to the massively over inflated price.

Went for my 40th after a flight home from a holiday, a wee suprise from my dad as I had wanted to try here. Meals were all served wrong, son ordered ribeye got sirlon, no sauces got sauces etc. All food was cold and all rare steaks were well done..... we mentioned but dealt with the above, however it's advertised they close at 10 but when we ordered coffee to finish the meal at 9 the coffee machine was off. We left when they started mopping the floor about 9.20....... not for me but each to there own.

Great night for a large table enjoying a family birthday. Service was swift and timly. The food was excellent and the staff very helpful. Reasonable cost also.

Waited a while for drinks, but when cocktails arrived they were delicious. Quite a lot of the starter options were not available. Steaks cooked to perfection, had the date night deal. Would say compared to other restaurants in the area, pricing is quite steep.

Had a visit to Stones today with my son and it was excellent. We both had fillet steaks and both cleared our plates . Was top notch and cooked to perfection. We know a good fillet when we eat one and we both left happy today. Thanks to the staff for being friendly and thanks to the chef for coming over for a chat ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Was our first visit. Scallops for starter were cooked to perfection. Ribeye steak cooked to perfection (medium rare). Very tasty and hearty plate of Steakanoff. Great service and lovely relaxed atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

This is a little gem of a place. Great food, great service and the layout is very nice. The background music creates a nice atmosphere and not loud so you can have a conversation. One of the best places to eat in the Livingston area.

I thought I'd give their pizza a try as I'd heard about it. We ate in the bar as just wanted a pizza and a drink, the pizza took around 35-40mins to come so very slow. The pizza unfortunately did not live up to expectations, too much cheese and undercooked, flavours were good just a bit rubbery having so much cheese. In terms of cost pizza and a pint for around £10 is reasonable but could do with the less as more approach when making their pizza's to maximise on profit and deliver a better pizza.

Wasn't sure what to expect, wouldn't accidently come across this eatery - it's tucked away just off an industrial estate. Haggis Bon Bons & Steak Spring Rolls Steak, Surf & Turf, Fish & Chips and Cajun Chicken Sticky Toffee Pudding, Apple Crumble & Cheese Cake...

Came here for dinner tonight and was looked after by Caitlin. What an amazing evening we had food was amazing was so tasty Lovely atmosphere and the girls were so attentive. Would 100%recommend here and will definitely be back.

First visit today. Food was delicious. I had the best chocolate brownie ever for dessert! The mocktails were delicious. I will be back and would recommend.

Everything was 3* ok and I’m sure that you’d have a good meal here……but we were hoping for a 5* experience and the food just wasn’t up to their pricing. £6 for a bowl of soup and £9.95 for what had the appearance of a day old, over cooked, blackened spring roll? Similar pricing to somewhere like Scott’s in South Queensferry but nowhere near as good views or atmosphere. On the other hand I did enjoy the steak medallions at £27.95 but, once again, the dish was ok but not spectacular and £1 extra extra for a tomato and a mushroom? The question for the group is always “Would we come back?” and, unfortunately, the overall experience means that we probably wouldn’t.

We had starters and mains and couldn't find space for a pud. Such tasty food freshly prepared and served with care. Pricy but well worth it for our special occasion.
