We all enjoyed the lunch early birthday with all the family coming up from Brighton

Great find this place. Had good steak and nice dessert.

Went there on a Friday night - great food and service, lovely atmosphere. Would definitely go back and recommend to friends.

This was an excellent experience. Not only is the building a beautiful old barn, tastefully decorated but the food and service was exceptionally good. Four of us lunched, all had different dishes and we were all very happy with our portion size and choices. I highly recommend this restaurant and will be going again.

What a fantastic Sunday lunch today. Delicious food, beautifully presented, and friendly staff. Good value for money too. Couldn't fault it. And to the staff, thank you for being so patient when we stayed chatting for such a long time after our meal.

The quality of the ingredients and the presentation of the dishes is very good and I would say in line with the prices charged. Service was initially very prompt and efficient, but once we finished starters the care and attention stopped. Only one of the waitresses seemed genuinely sorry for an 40 minute wait for our main course. The lady on front of house simply told us it was coming with no word of apology for the wait. If the service was more sincere and on a par with the quality of the food we would be return.

Pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. The foot was a bit hit-and-miss: we fish starters were nice and refreshing, the mains were very heavy and unbearably salty and desert has a nice flavour combination but a very odd texture.

We are very lucky to have this outstanding restaurant so near to us!.I took my wife and in laws there for a birthday supper and was delighted with the attentive service and outstanding menu. I can highly recommend the food especially the loin of venison and accompanying faggot! My wife and her parents had a lovely evening in an amazing barn.

Went for lunch today December 18th 2022 and had a brilliant experience. The room was so pretty and cosy . The food was superb in every way and we could not finish it all or have room for dessert which was a shame . Faultless. And incredible value. The staff were warm and efficient and made us feel welcome and special. Surpassed lots of recent dining experiences which were a third more expensive and half the size . Highly recommended. Delighted.

Food was perfection and the service was excellent! everything was homemade and you can tell as the food is authentic and brilliant. Definitely worth a visit!

Last time I visited here was pre Covid and unfortunately the standards appear to have slipped. Customer service was not the high standard experienced previously, the restaurant was cold (obviously saving on the heating bills) and so was the food.

Visited on Saturday evening for a surprise birthday meal. Nicely located just on the edge of Monmouth. Lovely converted barn, that wasn't particularly warm upon arrival at 18:30hrs, but it wasn't uncomfortably cold. Noted plenty of waiting staff - all were polite and attentive. Menu listed enough options; all of which were quality dishes. It was nice to be given some small complimentary nibbles before our first course, e.g a soup, warm bread and olive oil/balsamic mix. Our party of 4 adults had a starter and main course. We were all delighted with the quality of the food and presentation, and I believe it justifies its higher prices. I would definitely dine here again.

A truly unforgettable experience dining here. Little hidden gem of a restaurant with excellent food and friendly staff. The waiter kept bringing bites to eat before the meal as compliments from the chef! Never had that happen before was such a nice touch. Everything was very delicious. Will visit again for sure

Excellent. Perfect for a special event, you feel well looked after. Venue is small enough to feel intimate but not so crowded that you’re encroaching on other tables.

Superb food and a pleasant atmosphere

Enchanting little find, cracking lunch generous in portion size with Yorkshires bigger than our heads!! Good choice of wine by the glass, great coffee and unhurried service which was just right. Will definitely be back again - the lemon meringue was incredible, bravo 👏

Lovely food and service. Really beautiful restaurant with a stone mill centre piece. Only find Table and chairs on the small side, toilet seats are broken.

Fantastic little gem! Beautiful food and friendly hospitality. Sadly we were unable to leave a tip via card (note to management) and had no cash on us, so felt bad for the staff who deserved the reward for the great service we received. We will return when we are in Wales again.

Great restaurant. Beautiful stone building with original features (I learned an old cider mill). Super food - chicken terrine starter and highly recommend shoulder of Welsh lamb. One of best meals out in years. Catered to a dairly allergy without any fuss.

We were very lucky to have been spoiled by Michelle and the team at the Stonemill in March this year when we celebrated our wedding at the restaurant. I cannot speak highly enough about this place. The food is amazing and the value for money is phenomenal. Treat yourself to this amazing hideaway.

Food was tasty, well prepared and nicely presented. Staff were friendly, courteous and attentive.

Visited yesterday for Sunday lunch. The set price was pretty reasonable for the quality and size of portions. Both the belly pork and the beef were excellent. The side vegetables were very well cooked and seasoned. They chose to go with fennel and honey which was a lovely mix and something a bit different from the normal steamed veg you’ll find at other great pub lunches in the area. The cauliflower cheese was one of the best we’ve had in the area! They didn’t skimp on the cheese 😍 The service was very good, staff were attentive and helpful. This was especially impressive and nearly every table was booked, so it was super busy and service wasn’t impacted. Well done 👏🏽 I normally try to add photos but nothing lasted long. My only suggestion would be to think about the lighting. It was pretty dark upstairs. I’m not really sure how you’d improve it as there didn’t seem much options that wouldn’t clash with the style of the interior.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff and the food was amazing.

Let's start with just one negative. Roast potatoes were a little let's say over cooked. But now the positives. The Venus is great, spacious with character. All the staff were polite warm and effecient. We were a group of 4. We had their Sunday lunch with 3 courses and all at a very good value. The beef and lamb were cooked really well, as were the veg. The other week we were also out at another venue, so to compare I would say the Stone mill comes up the better. Overall I would recommend the Stonemill for a warm good setting meal.

My wife took me to the Stone mill for an evening meal just before Christmas and I couldn't fault the service, ambience and flavour of some great locally sourced and prepared produce! Thank you.

This was booked for my daughters 30th birthday by her partner. Josh made a fantastic decision to do so. From our warm welcome all the way to dessert and the cake we brought along the staff were fantastic. The food was exceptional from start to finish. Wonderful value. Thank you to all the staff you are doing a brilliant job. So looking forward to another visit very soon.

Nice venue, food ok, if a little light on portion sizes. Good quality drinks. Most staff friendly and amenable. Bill worked out around £50 / head.

On the whole, the food was delicious (other than one dessert which had split and had to be returned) but the front of house staff let the side down with a catalogue of errors. They were all very young and it looked like they needed direction by someone with more experience to point them in the right direction! Firstly, when you have champagne you do not serve it in red wine glasses! Next came the waitress trying to take dishes away while we were still eating! We then had two courses where they brought the next course along before clearing the table so we were asked to clear the old dishes ourselves to enable the waitress to put the new plates on the table. The after meal coffee was then served with the desserts and instead of after that course was finished and having the dishes removed and then we were kept waiting 15 minutes for the check after we had asked for it even though there were only 4 tables and 3 waiting staff to cover these. All minor points but when you are at a higher end restaurant you certainly do not expect this catalogue of very basic errors

An excellent Sunday lunch yesterday from the time we arrived to our departure.The food was excellent in every way and you are very lucky to have an amazing chef and such lovely staff! We will definitely be back again!

Lucky to reserve a last minute table. Excellent food all round. Great value for the high quality ingredients and cooking. If we were local we would come often.

What a lovely place on the outskirts of Monmouth. Received a warm welcome, and excellent service from the 4 members of front of house team. Ordered wines and food. Wine was reasonably priced. Received a welcome snack of fried halloumi with a salty garlic dip. The amuse Boucher was cauliflower and celeriac soup. This was smooth, flavoyrsome and amazing. Also received foccacia with oil/balsamic dip. Then came the starter of scallops with lardons and samphire. The lardons had a very strong flavour which overpowered the scallops and samphire. I'm told samphire is salty but couldn't taste it or the scallops. We both ordered ribeye steak. This came with chips, vine tomatoes and field mushroom. The steak was smothered in chorizo butter which was a strong flavour meaning the beef steak had no flavour. I scraped this off and left it. The steak was ordered medium rare and was just pink in the middle. I would normally have it slightly less done but rib eye is very forgiving. Dessert was lemon posset. Amazing, lemony and creamy. I loved it. My husband had the popcorn pannacotta. How they got the flavour in there I don't know, but it was enjoyable. Whilst it was good, it wasn't amazing due to the strong flavours chef used to with the scallops and ribeye. It was unbalanced. It's not me - I eat chillies and Currys so love strong flavours, but in their right place. £165 Bill included the wine on a Saturday night.

Staying at Steppes cottages which is amazing and on site this wonderful restaurant of which we ate last night. What can I say other than Wow!!!! From start to finish... Fantastic staff, food that blew our minds. Its a real treasure😁...... So glad we booked for Sunday lunch

The whole experience of the stone mill was exceptional. The restaurant I'd just big enough without feeling over crowded the food was second to none the staff are attentive without being over bearing and the whole meal was in our opinion 5⭐. Well done to all concerned we will be back.

Great food friendly staff what more can you want!

Fantastic food, very reasonable prices considering the quality. Duck soldiers with crispy hen's egg was a terrific starter, and the Venison two ways was the best I've tasted.

Never fails to deliver on quality and service. Roast venison was beautifully cooked. Best roasters and Yorkshire puddings. Great choice if freshly cooked veg.

Having checked the lunchtime menu I was a bit dubious about meeting my son and grandson here but the food was in fact 1st rate. The service btw courses was a little slow but tolerable. It was busy and fully booked - a Saturday. I would recommend it. As it is well out of town you need a driver who isn't drinking.

My brother booked us in as a table of four an a Thursday night and it was hands down the best food I've eaten in years. The location was cute and the service was good. They were well up for the challenge of finding something for my celiac sister-in-law to eat, and we all said we'd happily go back again..

Meals were very much over salted. Shoulder of lamb was disappointing as it was minced lamb not slices. The menu should be clear.

Went here for Father’s Day lunch. Food excellent and staff very nice. Had to wait a very long time for food and two drinks we ordered during the meal didn’t arrive. Couldn’t have desert even though it was in the bill as we didn’t have enough time.

Called for Sunday lunch. Lovely surroundings and restaurant. Good atmosphere. The young staff looked after us very well. Disappointed with my pudding , needed magnifying glass to find my chocolate mousse .

We called in to the Stonemill this evening on the off chance they had a table free and they were so very happy to accommodate us. We were given excellent customer service and very high quality food. I would put this up there with one of our top three restaurant visits which includes a two times Michelin star place. Highly recommended. Thank you too all staff for a fantastic dining experience.

This candlelit restaurant is warm and welcoming, as are the staff. The food is sublime, superbly presented, served with efficiency and charm. If you want to splash out on a special meal, this is the place to go.
