Stoke Mill Restaurant in South Norfolk

I think this is probably a lovely restaurant if you are NOT a vegan.... they did, to their credit, make me 3 vegan courses but they were little disappointing (eg a very nice saffron risotto that came with ... nothing at all! no veg, no side salad....and at £26 I would have expected a little more). My partner, who eats meat, did far better than I did and thought it was fantastic.

Fabulous food, great setting. Went with our two teenagers. Expensive but worth it.

A fabulous dining experience is what you’d expect to get in this restaurant. It’s fine dining with the price to go with it. The food was fantastic especially the cheese soufflé as a starter. We had mussels meunière, beef medallions, fried halibut and steak. Everything was cooked to perfection. The crème brûlée which came with raspberry ice cream was a perfect dessert. Highly recommended.

Food was very nice but was not very hot. As someone who likes hot food, the food seemed luke/just edible. I think sides of roast potatoes/veg could be more generous and extra gravy would be nice. As a wine drinker, wine prices were extortionate! £47 for three glasses.

Stunning food, amazing service. Head and shoulders above the rest of similar priced eateries in the county. Orkney scallops were the best I've ever had. Trout tart was absolutely beautiful. The beef course was absolutely amazing. Pudding course was delicious. The wine pairing, absolutely spot on. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

Very special venue for special celebrations. Outstanding service, waiting staff go out of their way to support diners. The food is superb, wonderful menu choices using fresh locally -sourced quality ingredients and each element of the dish is just perfect. It's like being a judge on The Great British Menu!

Delicious food, excellent and attentive service in beautiful surroundings. The restaurant is located in a beautiful old wooden mill and has been renovated to offer a spacious, peaceful dining space. Tables are laid out around the restaurant so there is a sense of privacy while still creating an inviting atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Very poor value for money for a Sunday roast. Starter and main for 2 with one drink each came to over £90! Was served with a nice amuse bouche , but not worth the money. Starter of cured bass was microscopically small. Sunday roasts should not be this pricey. Ok, it's better than a Toby carvery( I imagine) but not THAT much better.

Great first experience with this place Highly recommend the Norfolk souffle as starter. The bavette steak was tender and full of flavour. We also loved the raspberry Bakewell tart, it was perfect to have with coffee/tea. Will be returning.

First visit to Stoke Mill, I was amazed by the experience. Welcomed by a young member of staff, relaxed atmosphere. Given ample time to choose our food. Mentioned I had an egg allergy, was reassured about contents of dishes. All in all a very good meal. Well worth a visit.

This is an amazing place to dine . The tasting menu is an exciting journey through flavours and textures in every course. The staff were brilliant and having one of the chef's explain the details of the various dishes was spot on.

Excellent setting in an old mill next to the river, Good car park (free). Staff friendly. Food is on another level. A bit pricey but you really get what you pay for so thoroughly worth every penny.

I had a really great meal at the Mill last night. I had the steak for main and it was cooked to perfection and really filling with the sides of Caesar salad and fries. I managed to squeeze in a dessert of crème brûlée and glad I did as it’s was very tasty. Would highly recommend and we’ll definitely be back!

amazing service! food came so quickly and tasted great. the bartenders were so friendly and kind and made the experience excellent. we came for our anniversary dinner and were kindly given a complimentary brownie. we were unable to find a taxi home and the owner of the restaurant spent over 30 minutes personally calling taxis for us and was kind enough to drive us home. loved the whole experience!

The staff were absolutely amazing always friendly and the owner is such a kind man. I had a wonderful time here for my anniversary. They will treat you very well and the food is immaculate.

Great food, atmosphere and service…the beef fillet, sea bass and the Dopple Soufflé (starter) were excellent

The food was excellent and the atmosphere was really lovely, the staff were attentive yet relaxed. We went to celebrate a birthday and was given a little ‘happy birthday’ dessert which was a lovely gesture and very much appreciated. From our experience today we will definitely be going back.

Sometimes a "fabulous" restaurant is just smoke and mirrors, this is not the case here! What a joy, simple surroundings with amazing sumptuous food. The staff are fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable with an unobtrusive efficiency. Chris and Georgia looked after us brilliantly. The menu is not too extensive whilst the wine list covers most areas of the world including local wines. It is buzzing atmosphere, not quiet and the lighting just right. A family run jewel in the Norfolk countryside.

First time here celebrating a great friend's birthday. Service was great with just the right amount of interaction. Food was exceptional, so full of flavour that you just didn't want each fork full to end. This was in the 'normal' restaurant, not the STORE which has the Michelin star, so god knows what the food is like in there. £100 a head its a treat meal by my, what a treat. Definitely returning.

First time back here in a year and it is still as excellent as it has always been, all the choices we had from the fixed price option were spot on.

The food here was lovely, tasted great - however wasn’t too fond of the service we received. We had our order taken by the front door in the bar rather than at our table which made us feel like the staff thought we couldn’t afford to eat there. The food was very rushed, I would’ve rather the restaurant turned as away. The fact that a 12.5% service charge was applied as well wasn’t appreciated but due to feeling like that we paid it anyway. I personally wouldn’t recommend based on service but the food was delicious.

Had a wonderful birthday meal here with friends. As always, the food was amazing

5 for Sunday lunch. The starters were too large. Cheese soufflé was creamy and wet. The mackerel was rubbery and tasted unpleasant - my partner really disliked it and the emulsion, which tasted of coconut. I really like mackerel, but it wasn't pleasant, and he didn't want to make a fuss as it was a birthday celebration, so he said nothing until we were home. He said the best bit was the presentation and beetroot! The asparagus soup was nice but gelatinous. The main roasts were excellent, but all felt too thickly cut, especially the pork. Neither liked the 'school' roast potatoes - not a good texture or crispy. The salted cod was disappointing and too salty! The green vegetable medly was excellent, the cauliflower cheese had too much cheese and overwhelmed the cauliflower itself. The seabass was perfectly cooked and delicious. The crab cake was not particularly flavoursome- more bland potato, and the fennel was overwhelming salty, so the delicate flavour was stifled. The desserts were amazingly good, lemon posset with blueberries, the pannacotta with rhubarb, and the chocolate brownie. We are all, bar one, terribly keen cooks and foodies so discussed the food thoroughly. We enjoyed our lunch and felt it was good. We look forward to coming to Store for lunch soon.

Stoke Mill has had its ups and downs over the years but these days it is one of the best fine-dining eateries in Norfolk.

Gorgeous food, certainly worth every penny. We had the lunch time two course option with an added glass of wine and coffee. Can't fault anything. Food great, service great and atmosphere great too. Definitely recommend.

Drinks were very fast, the starters lovely and canapes really lovely. The dinner was really nice then unfortunately no one asked if we wanted to order the dessert and was left waiting for 40 mins then I asked can we have our pudding . So just as he went of to check it finally came out but 45 mins in all. Why, we have no idea what went wrong, but something clearly did . Shame as everything even the dessert was very nice. We noticed with the lemon posset it was not mango ice cream. But Berry so either a mistake, or they run out. And 1 other thing we would of liked fresh bottled water . Not tap. Although we can appreciate most want tap. But we always have a nice bottle of spring. So all lovely, minor glitches Hope to be back in the near future.

As my husband and friend had told me how fantastic this place was I was so looking forward to having a meal here. Unfortunately I am gluten and dairy free and more often than not this can pose a problem with many restaurants. But, because of the calibre of this establishment I assumed it wouldn't be a problem...Perhaps our friend should have mentioned this when booking but, as the menu clearly states, dietary requirements and allergens are catered for....well...I had the scallops but instead of the bacon jam and lovely sauce. I had a green thai sauce that totally overwhelmed the scallops; it seemed that the only thing on the menu that wouldn't pose a problem was the risotto...well I'm used to rice being a standard for me so I plumped for the mushroom risotto WITHOUT the parmesan but unfortunately it seemed to be without the depth of flavour a mushroom can bring to a dish...disappointing!!I didn't have a dessert because all they could offer was sorbet (yawn). I must add the staff are fabulous but I left very frustrated having watched my husband eat a lovely meal...

We dined last night, a warm welcome, the restaurant packed .A good ambience.The Alacarte selection was not very extensive but balanced .I chose Sea bass with crab cake, spinach and cream. It was cooked and presented well but was the most boring unseasoned sea bass dish I’ve ever had and as a back up, a portion of chips just use in case the portion size was mediocre. The chips were seasoned and cooked to perfection. My partner had fillet steak and was not a great piece of beef.The Sauvignon was gorgeous .When a function was finishing in the store restaurant the door was left open and you felt a cold draft cutting across your legs. The temperature definitely dropped in the restaurant , so we declined desserts and left. I’m disappointed because I’d heard good things about the restaurant or maybe we were just unlucky.

The food was excellent. Is what you expect from a fine dinning restaurant. Service was good and everything in the menu was explain. Wine selection is pretty good with plenty of choices for everyone. I recommend for a fine dining experience in a warm environment.

Went here for our anniversary. The service was really good. Even though they got our main wrong they quickly replaced it with the correct meal. The staff were knowledgeable and very friendly. While it was a tad expensive as a special occasion it was worth it. Would certainly go back.

Fantastic. They were very accommodating around my partners food needs, the food itself was exceptional, and the service was flawless. We came for the NYE set menu, which for most places means food prepared hours ahead of time. Not here, and I cannot wait to come back to visit Store and the tasting menu!

My wife and I had our micro wedding reception at Stoke Mill in November 2022, and we’re so pleased that we did. In the lead up to our big day the owner Ludo was hugely accommodating and took the time to go through every aspect of the day with us, which made us feel completely at ease knowing we were in good hands.

We had considered other venues, but for us Stoke Mill ticked all the boxes, the food and service is amazing (we had previously eaten here so knew their high standards). The actual venue itself is beautiful inside, it’s very close to the city centre (ideal for us as we got married at the Norwich Castle) however it’s still completely private and secluded with lots of beautiful spots for photos, they stock local wines, there’s plenty of parking, and finally we could play our own music through their speaker system! Small details but they were important to us!

Special mention to the chef and waiting staff who were working on the day, the food was incredible and the staff were all extremely attentive and nothing was too much trouble, thank you, it really was the most perfect day.

Always been good since Ludo took it on but recently it just gets better every time we go. Tonight was faultless, must be in line for awards soon. It’s now actually cheaper than the other local, the wildebeest, but better.

Excellent food, good selection of wine and great sevice. On par with starred restaurants. The single vegetarian option was butternut squash risotto which was superb.

Enjoyed a lovely 3 course menu for £30, all presented to a high standard, the minute steak was cooked to perfection, adding the little appetizers just puts the icing on the cake. Update. 16th Sept. Enjoyed another lovely meal at the Mill. Cost has now gone up to £33, but a small glass of wine and a coffee included, still excellent value for very tasty food and excellent service.

Have been regular customers for years. The food is terrific. But have been trying to book a celebration in Store, and hit brick walls. One member of staff was very poor in the way she treated us, calls not returned as promised, said she was "too busy" etc. etc. But the owner would rather side with her, despite us telling him exactly what she said. They have lost a significant booking (at least £2,000) but don't seem to care. So we will not care about going back. There are plenty of other restaurants.

Wow! Excellent meal. We have not been here for several years and in the interim Stoke Mill has moved to fine dining. My wife and I ordered from the "Seasonal du jour" menu. This is a small menu consisting of two starters, three mains and two desserts. Two courses for £25, 3 courses for £30. These prices include a glass of wine and coffee. With prices like this there is always the concern that either or both of portion size and quality will suffer. This is definitely not the case here. The starter of chicken terrine was full size and delicious. For the main we both had guinea fowl and crispy chicken leg. A special note for the guinea fowl which was cooked perfectly, very moist and tender. Accompanied with best fondant potato I've had in years! The team in the kitchen definitely know what they are doing! With this quality, at these prices you can't go wrong. We will certainly return.
