We waited 1 hr for our lunch and it was a simple dish of sausages and potatoes! Terrible service. Their order system doesn’t work, we order food and drinks and the waiter came with the wrong drinks!! Then apparently someone else has ordered online with the QR code on the tables something else to the table… anyway bad experience. Food was good, although my sausages were not all fully cooked, we waiting 1hr for sausages and potatoes is a definitely no. I won’t go back there.

Truly could not recommend NOT going to this restaurant enough. The service is excruciatingly slow/inefficient and the food could honestly just have been heated up bits from Sainsbury’s for 10x the price. We waited in the queue for 25 minutes. Once we were eventually seated and could make our order on their app/website we waited 1 HOUR 30 MINUTES for our food!! At the 45 minute mark we asked a waiter for an update and they said the food usually takes over an hour to be ready. I feel like people should be made aware that they’d be waiting over an hour for their food BEFORE you order. I wouldn’t mind waiting over an hour if the food was incredible but it was genuinely mid at best. If you want to wait over an hour for food you could just get at Sainsbury’s for a fraction of the cost then Steins Richmond is the place for you!!! 😃

Stein’s food and drink are great - as always. However the service in Richmond is a joke - truly terrible. It takes forever to get attention. They’re clearly understaffed, but they have been for ages. When you get the attention of the team they’re harassed and inexperienced. There’s an app to order online, but this restaurant is in a network dead spot, and Stein’s WiFi is password protected. It took twenty-five minutes for them to share the password with us. Stein’s restaurants at Kingston or Kensington are a much better bet.

This place used to be amazing. On a sunny day you can’t deny the location is amazing, it is. However, the service and wait times we experienced were totally unacceptable. We waited an hour and 10 minutes for our food, 20 minutes for drinks. Whilst it was clearly a busy day, you’d think a restaurant would prepare for such demand - It shouldn’t be a surprise. Woefully understaffed and the food overpriced. The vegan sausage was a culinary abortion!

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! On 28.02.2025 at 4:30 we decided to stop off for a drink at Stein’s by the riverside. When we got there, there were two gentleman already present having their drinks. We sat down and then at least 12 other people came. The one person that was front of house proceeded to serve everyone else apart from us. I went up to him to give him our drinks over but he told me to sit down and he’ll come to serve us. 45 minutes go by and we were not served and every one else that was present was served. As we were the only people of colour present, I think it’s safe to say this was intentional. How can 12 people that came after us be served and we weren’t?! So we just got up and left. Horrible experience, would not recommend for any one that isn’t white.

We stumbled upon Stein’s on an unusually sunny day in January, and it turned out to be the perfect spot for a relaxed lunch. The casual, no-fuss setup was exactly what we were looking for. While the servers were incredibly busy, they were also helpful and friendly. Don’t be misled by their deadpan expressions! They were, in fact, wonderfully accommodating. The crisp, refreshing beer paired beautifully with our generous sharing platter of assorted German sausages, each packed with flavor. It was a simple yet satisfying meal, and although not the cheapest, the quality was superb so without a doubt we’ll be coming back for more.

The main for four at £78 was just enough for the group but without the additional pretzels there would’ve not been enough. I had a meal here one Saturday evening with some friends. We ordered various dishes to share and some not to share. It took us over 50 minutes to get any food on the table, which was crazy! The table server apologised and let us have a round of drinks and pretzels for free, which I thought was fair enough. Once it arrived, I got my pork schnitzel with potatoes and salad...and it was very nice. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but at £23 or so I thought it was a bit pricey for what it was! But paying £18 for curry wurst and potatoes seemed more of a rip-off. We also shared a sausage meat platter, which was very nice...but again I didn't think it was value for money. This place is defo worth a visit, especially in the summer as you're right by the river and if you fancy some German munch. Only 3 stars as it could be much better all round.

Perhaps the idea of a Bavarian food experience in England is a bad idea in the first place. Where to begin. There is no Eisbein or Haxen on the menu, rather limited to wurst und schnitzel. That is like having an English food experience in Bavaria that serves bangers and mash only. Then the manager-waiters utters "Eisbein is disgusting!" and walks away when asked whether or not it is available to order. This is unprofessional on so many levels. Then the beer selection is limited to Erdinger and a second German beer. The food itself (limited choice) was served quick and food quality was not bad - which was about the only positive but a positive at least. At almost £30.00 a plate of food, the portions could be bigger. The "comprehensive" menu is via a qr code, but is quirky and the Wi-Fi and GSM is very poor, luckily a waiter assisted with a manual order. The waiter however did not understand the difference between Weiner and pork schnitzel on their menu. The price tag is ridiculously high, and combined with all the other negative elements I don't see why this establishment is in existence, other than to perhaps give German food and Bavaria experience a bad name and misconception. This is definitely far from a Bavarian experience. A solid 2 out of 5. Avoid and find something else.

I’ve lived in Richmond for years, often passed this place and finally decided to try it. I really wanted to like it but for the price it’s not worth it. The sausage was tough, dry and luke warm. Update - didn't appreciate being sat at a table, to be told we need to move 30 minutes later...whilst we were eating! That's really not acceptable. Apparently the table had a booking, but why sit us there for a meal without letting us know in advance? After having to move, whilst half way through our meal, I noticed they were then seating random walk-in customers where we had been sat. I don't know what on earth was going on here. Ordering online via the website, there is no option to order without service charge being added! I have never been to a restaurant where service charge is mandatory. Given the bad service I am very disappointed that I had to pay to be treated so badly. Previous review: Awesome staff, so friendly, welcoming and engaging/conversational. Really interesting food (I've never really tried German food), so much so that I found some recipes to make at home 😂. The potato salad is nice and it's great they have some vegetarian options. The beer is delicious. Lovely setting by the Thames. It's a little expensive for what it is, in my opinion, but I guess it is Richmond and also somewhat unique.

An excellent place to guzzle cold beer on a warm day by the riverside. Stein's is the quintessential beer garden with an outdoor-only seating (I think they provide blankets and heaters for the winters) with a gazebo-like arrangement. The staff here are courteous; one of the beers I'd ordered tasted a bit funny, and they replaced the pint with another one, no questions asked. I didn't eat the foods that the place is known for, but nevertheless, we did order a brie cheese-pear-seeds-leaves salad whose portion size was humongous. I also had the vegan sausage with sauerkraut and potatoes. This one wasn't super impressive but wasn't bad. The pretzels didn't have the trademark salt crystals on them, which was unusual in a German beer place, but nothing to complain about. A point to note is that you need to order something to eat compulsorily i.e., you can't walk in, drink beer and buzz off. This wasn't a problem for us as we'd planned to eat lunch anyway, but I found it a bit odd.

This pub bills itself as "The Bavarian Experience". Granted, it started as that with staff that, whilst perfectly polite, haven't got a clue, Stein's really is now just another pub with food and drink that one may find in Bavaria. The food is perfectly edible but not enjoyable. The menu is very restricted (come on, who needs three different types of Schnitzel - you can eat that anywhere - but would accept that pork knuckles are off the menu?) and prices are eye-watering. It feels like this has morphed into yet another place that maximises money extraction from the punters. Sure - maybe in these days there is no choice but to do so but please don't pretend you are something that you have lost the skill to be. At the very least learn from your staff at the Kingston branch - they do have a clue! Richmond will be visited no more...

Only nice part was the bit of side salad and side potato salad. Their prices were very high for the quality of food and cold outdoor seating. Such a shame as the food looked nice and seating looked very cute. I think the good reviews are only given because of the nice riverview in summer. Around £20 per main for cheap 'german' food. Food was a big disappointment, at the least. my beef stew goulash seems to be the scrap of the bottom of the pot. meat was dry and tasteless, woody texture, and flavour lacks of all excepts being salty. sauerkraut seemed to be just soaked with vinegar, then threw a few bit of fennel, fennel flavour didn't get through at all. service was slow and chaotic. A badly managed restaurant. It's such a shame. with a few tweaks, it would have been a fabulous place to enjoy. The table next to us with young baby had to wait for 45 minutes for their meals. they then asked to cancel the order. the waiter insisted at length for them to wait for extra 2 minutes for their foods, or take the food to go, despite the fact the poor couple tried to explain they no longer have time to eat and that they have a young baby to take home for rest. the struggle went on for at least 15 minutes back and forth calling out manager and such, until they got their refund. What a mess!

All time favourite, what could be better than good beer, curry sausages and fried potatoes with the view of river Thames 🥰

Good is authentic Bavarian and the service is great. The boys and girls are super friendly and helpful! The location and atmosphere are both on par.

One of the best spots for a sunny day in Richmond. My go-to whenever I fancy an authentic German meal and Stein!

Service through the app is great. Got the stein in my hand less than 60 seconds after tapping! Food was delicious and large portions.

Unique bier Garten experience on the river side, very attentive staff. Toilets could be better maintained though

Sophie is an absolute gem, and Is a credit to “Team Fox” 🦊 I popped in several weeks ago, enquiring about booking a space for an upcoming event. Even though it was a weekday early lunch time, she was fairly busy with food orders.. She was polite, professional, engaged (and had a great sense of humour) whilst i was bombarding her with questions. Sophie juggled it all excellently! I popped in again this evening, to ask a few more questions, she recognised me immediately (probably because I was a nightmare on my previous visit 🤣) and even though she wasn’t expecting us (and she wasn’t actually working the bar) she made time to listen to us and was thorough and efficient In answering all that we asked! Thank you so very much Sophie :) What a brilliant pub! Ps. The “dirty doughballs” were excellent too!
