Chips were totally under cooked almost inedible Staff need to taste what they’re serving and look at these reviews

First time trying this place and the first impression is really bad. I ordered in the shop. Ordered a single jumbo sausage (one of only 2 things available). When I arrived home and opened it, I wasn't sure whether id been given a supper or they were being generous, as there was a small portion of chips in with it. It is actually an insult to put them in there as they were old and rock hard!! Seriously bad standards. I ordered a Pizza too but wasn't impressed. Checking my change when I got home it would seem that I was short changed (matching against their online menu). Looking at other reviews I'd have to agree that the staff weren't very friendly and blanked me when I wished them a good night. I'll never visit this place again.

Friendly staff, great value chippy, been coming here for years. I saw a couple of reviews about chippies being soggy, this might be because Stefanos put on a sheet of plastic film on the top of the chips before closing the box. This seems unnecessary, and it does make the chips a bit soggy if you're not eating them right away.

3 bags of chips and 6 rolls. On a positive the rolls were nice. The chips on the other hand were inedible. Having waited on them being “freshly made” they were sadly rock solid and totally inedible. Little wonder the google review score is as is.

Dreadful food. The pizza wasn't edible and the chips had clearly been cooked in very old oil. The man who runs this place is extremely rude and shouldn't be dealing with the public. With so many real Italian chippies in Edinburgh I don't see why anyone would waste money on this garbage.

Small Food outlet serving a variety of takeaway foods, I ordered Fish and Chips, served with two medium sized fish, unfortunately the fish was okay but the batter was undercooked, the chips were cooked thin. Overall not impressed

Worst fish dish and chips I have ever had!! Very soggy fish, some of the chips were over cooked and some where white and soggy!! Will never order from here again!!!

The WORST fish supper I have ever had. Soggy batter just fell off the dry fish. Would not recommend and will not be ordering again.

Was once was a good chip shop but has now seriously gone down hill . Ordered a pizza and large chips .pizza was under cooked had to go in the oven when I got home. chips were certainly not a large they were also cold and smelt disgusting so went in the bin . Safe to say I won't be back

Have given this place too many chances now but never again..ordered spring rolls and was served terrible vege type even though I have always ordered meat/cabbage rolls. Chips are not what they used to be and so will never return, not even if I’m offered a free meal after complaining about this one to the owner ☹️

Best chips Ive had in a long time. Fish was great as well as service. Fife tier chippy. Definitely recommend.

Dreadful chip shop. Can’t cook chips and the owner hasn’t a clue about customer service. Sells old chips that have been double fried either to heat up rather than offering a fresh selection. Do yourself a favour and don’t buy food from here. Awful.

There were (at least) four hairs in the kebab, which didn’t look too good anyways. The fish and chips were pretty soggy and the food overall smelled bad. We paid way too much for the low quality. So please, go somewhere else if you want food that isn’t this poorly made

Stingy with the chips, and the old ones at that. It was in fact fish, but soggy. Not remotely what it used to be.

quick service, pizza was amazing however chips were a bit disappointing, the smell of them was pretty off putting and they were a bit discoloured so therefore lost points.

i had doner wrap and my friend had a sausage supper and we thought it was really nice first time trying this chip shop highly recommended

They accepted our order through their website and then rejected it later without any explanation. I called to find out what was going on and they said we’re too far away for delivery, despite them delivering to us on many other occasions. Mr Stefano would never have let this occur. Will find a new chippy. Cheers.

Best chippy, stefanos great and has some pretty decent chilli sauce.

We ordered on line for collection when picked up they had completely missed of one part of order . Pizza and kebab were left getting cold and had to ask they get put in oven . Pizza chef seemed to forget again and had to be reminded As consultation we were asked to take a juice . To be fair When we got home Pizza had no mushrooms even though ham and mushroom ordered and kebab had no spaces even though two were ordered. 1st time using stefanos won't be back

This used to be really good place but went down hill recently its a shame hopefully will get better again...

Ordered a delivery at 17.40 arrived at 19.18 stone cold 1/2 cooked chips totally inedible straight in the bin worst chips ever. Would not recommend this chippy to my worst enemy. I'm sure I'll be up all night

Ordered from here last night at 11.30 ,food was alright but kept on waking up in the middle of the night being sick,so this place gave me food poisoning

Visited before my journey home to Lancashire for Chips and Donner meat which was very nice meat was good quality as were the chips also. The box juggler was entertaining but the lack of Mint yoghurt means only 4 stars out of 5 otherwise it aould of been 5/5

My partner thought the fish supper and mushroom side was a fat feast- he didn't like it at all. But I ate mine hot in the car instead of waiting 20 mins till we got home and i thought it was pretty delicious. The batter was nice and crispy and the fish was yummy. I easily feel queasy if there's too much fat due to no gall bladder. I had no symptoms at all so the fat content couldn't have been that high or I would have suffered. Service was super quick and efficient. Everything was well wrapped and placed in a stout bag. Would definitely go back.

Having paid online for our order we are still waiting over 2 hours later. Have phoned them twice to be told it has been sent out, we are really busy. Why take the original order then? Have used Stefanos before but will NEVER use again. Ordered at 6.05 pm now 8.20 pm and still waiting. Never again!!! Bad attitude on the phone, terrible all round service. DO NOT use if you want your dinner at a reasonable time!

Very bad experience tonight. We placed our order at 630 was told 1 hr wait which for Tues seems long. We waited till 820pm before we called. When phone was finally answered. We were told it would be leaving soon but will still be 30 mins. We weren't willing to wait over 2 hrs for a chippy. When we said to cancel the response was very blunt with no apology. Very disappointed. We have used Stefano for years.

I think it's the son running the place and cousins it has been ran a hell off alot better by the father when he's in ever so occasionly now.

Won’t be back again. Order three pizzas two days ago - complete WASTE OF MONEY! The pizzas were soggy and chewy and the toppings were tasteless and nothing special. Could get way better pizza elsewhere.

Great food and friendly helpful service

Confirmed our order on just eat then cancelled it after 20mins when we had been expecting our food. Would completely understand if it wasnt accepted right away so we could chose somewhere else but they let us believe our order was accepted and our food was being made. Disappointing and not very professional.

Served very quickly and the fish and chips were very fresh. Covid organised takeaway. Not the cheapest but we ate it all. Still hot when we arrived home.

Had a 20 minute breal from my work as a carer, went to get a hamburger chip roll £3.60. Went to pay with my card, was told had to be cash as small transaction. I told them i had no cash. The man pointed to the cashline behind me which hundreds of people had touched and i thought due to covid contactless was preferred. Not following the rules. Walked away

I would upload a picture of my kebab with the pakora but the kebab didn’t arrive. Chips are cooked in oil that are way too used already. £5.50 for 3 pakoras is a joke. Burger was okay at start until you get to the middle and bite raw meat. Just avoid their chips, kebab and burger. The sauce is decent of nothing else. Tried to call first to fix the issue like get a small kebab for my order, different chips and a new piece of burger meat for the raw food but nope they aren’t picking up. This pitta bread for the vege pakora?

Best chippy in town, in my opinion! Crispy, crunchy batter and great chips. The staff are very nice and friendly too.

Reasonably tasty, good meat though a tad expensive.

Since the owner is not working there anymore the quality of food and service has come down along, I have used them alot unfortunately will never use again.

First class fish suppers cooked to order and served with a smile.

The pizza deliveries are quite good, however last time I bought something on the date 5/6/20; the delivery guy gave me a fiver along with other coin change and the fiver had been sellotaped together. You can go to the bank and exchange this ripped fiver for a new one. I will do this. I could not give this ripped fiver to an Italian restaurant owner as I pointed out to him the problem. Whether Stefano's knew about the fiver or not they should always check the paper notes for any issues.

We ordered a margarita pizza and some garlic sauces and instead we were given chicken pizza. When we phoned and explained what happened we were told that we would have to wait about an hour for our order. The garlic sauces were missing too even though my boyfriend asked whether they were in the bag when he was collecting the order. The chips we ordered were dry as well. The customer service over the phone was really poor. I would not recommend ordering from Stefanos certainly we won't be ordering again.

Good fish supper but terrible attitude to customer service. You have to spend over £15 to pay by card!!! I wonder why they are so keen for people to pay in cash?

Classic Scottish chippy, Stefano was just chilling while the geezers at the front asked me plenty of times what I wanted to order. Unfortunately I only really wanted to order once. After eventually persuading them that I just wanted ma chips they decided to give me some. Chips ok but not sure what the wait was about.

Wouldn't give me more mayonnaise. When asked "you've had enough, more would be extra". Stingy, poor quality and rude.

Food nice but the man serving us was pretty rude! We were the only people in the shop too so not as if they were busy!

Handed me the phone and said "You have a problem? Call the police" when I asked for a change to my order! 🤣🤣🤣 If you want good food with proper, friendly customer service then head 100m up the road to the Comiston Fry. If you want average food with rude staff then this is your place!  Stefanos' has gone downhill massively recently - I think they have changed the staff - such a shame from what it used to be!

I had exam last week n I didn't have time to cook, so tried here based on a friend's recommendation for the first time. delivery was a little bit late but food was awesome so that I forgot about the delivery time. very friendly n helpful delivery driver and reasonable price for large positions. highly recommended

18th April 2019 Bought 2 reg portions of chips. Chips in Stefano's fish and chips are normally OK - if anaemic/undercooked, a typical fish & chip shop problem - while their fried fish is excellent. However this time the chips were rubbish - many had black patches (rotten/poisonous) on them, which should have been cut out or binned, and quite a number of them dark brown, possibly leftover fried chips from the day before that have been refried. If so quite unacceptable. Probably some careless couldn't care less person doing the chips. Pull your socks up, Stefano's.

Greatest chips in Edinburgh. Top notch Quality foods. Kebabs, pizza, spag bol etc all top notch.

Every time my husband and I have had a takeaway from Stefanos the food and service was first class.

I've been tricked to buy large fish and chips (even though I asked for small, but I was in a hurry and didn't pay enough attention to what is happening), because as it turned out from the small talk I'm a tourist (and so one off client!) and so won't come back. Well, I'm local and after being cheated I definitely won't come back! Also, I was made to wait forever for my order! Never had to wait so long for a chippie!

Fish and chips were decent and open late but you might want to pop a few antidepressants before heading in.

I wonder how much they charge for good service? Been a couple of times now, rarely friendly and not really worth your money. Any customer is looked at like they have just insulted the staff by walking into their shop. Last time I went I witnessed some young teens being mistreated by the staff, being pawned off as lesser, but now this time round I was the one being insulted by the staff’s lack of customer care. How does this place survive? At this point I’d rather go hungry than give them my money.

Terrible customer service and then fish and chips plastered in brown sauce!!! Apparently it is normal to be asked sauce and vinegar in not very good English! Never again

One guy who takes orders at this place shouldn't work with the public. His attitude is appalling and this is one customer who won't be using them again. Plenty choice in the area for home deliveries with far superior customer service!
