Steam Restaurant in Hammersmith and Fulham

This was really disappointing. I love south east asian food and I was really excited after reading the reviews online. So me and my mother come for dinner and there was barely anyone in the restaurant on a Friday evening (red flag number one). We sit down and order the dim sum platter, prawn crackers, char sui boa, peaking duck, wonton soup, broccoli with oyster sauce and steamed rice. It took 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive with the prawn crackers (which is a long time for an empty restaurant (red flag number 2)). My mum loved the dim sum and said it was delicious and I loved the char sui boa. However the pork in the char sui boa was in large chunks which was a bit odd. However it turned down hill, the wonton's in the soup were good but the broth was watery and there was a ridiculous amount of noodles in it as well. The peeking duck was the worse I have had in my life, in the words of my mother 'it was like chewing on leather'. It was dry and seemed to be at least two days old. And out waiters response was 'that's how it is traditionally done' (at least it was removed from our bill). The sauce for the peeking duck was very gritty and unappetising. The next thing to arrive was the broccoli it was swimming in a gelatinous sauce and although it wasn't the worst part of the meal it still wasn't great. And now to the most disappointing part of the meal, the rice. It arrived last and was over cooked. It was also cold and seemed to have been cooked in too much water. Avoid this place if you can.

Love dim sum? You must go to this fantastic place in Hammersmith. Exquisite and delectable dim sum, every beautifully shaped bite an explosion of flavour, incredible value and charming service. Went for dinner on a recommendation and was blown away by how good it is. Dim sum platter, a mere £12, 7 parcels of colourful steaming delight, wasabi prawn, crabmeat, fennel and sea bass, squid ink prawn and squid were particularly good. Ginger beef and pan fried Beijing pork are also superb. This chef really knows what he's doing, flavour combinations, both traditional and modern, are well balanced, finely textured, and each dumpling a hand made sculpture on the plate. Service from Latif was attentive and charming. Including drinks we spent £60 for 2 but you could easily spend far less, we were splashing out. Such a feast would be at least double anywhere else.Tucked away down King St this small place deserves to be packed out. Stunning.

Definitely a hidden gem, absolutely amazing. We had spring rolls, sui mai, three sets of dumplings and a chicken noodle dish for about £30. The food was absolutely gorgeous, so fresh and the whole vibe of the restaurant is immaculate, would recommend to anyone!

Freshly made Dim Sums, we have mix plater and exceptionally delicious and had mains of noodles and fried rice. Overall experience was spot on. I would highly recommend!!!

If only I had known Steam was here 4 years ago; no need to visit China Town! While the Dim Sum selection is a little narrower than in China Town, and maybe a bit more expensive, the dishes are excellent, freshly cooked and delicious; every bit as good as in most of the restaurants I have eaten Dim Sum in China Town. It would be nice not to pay for your pot of tea (or at least less), but the tea too is excellent. I have no reservations in recommending the Dim Sum and will certainly be back again.

Steam is a hidden gem in Hammersmith. The restaurant itself doesn’t have much in terms of signage so it’s easy to miss when walking down king street. The food is delicious and well priced. We usually get 4 plates to share between two and it’s usually around £30 total including drinks. Fantastic choice for vegetarians - vegetable bao buns and crispy tofu are our favourites. Service is always excellent and the food comes out quickly. If you’re in Hammersmith then you should definitely check it out!

The images of the food on the website look good. If you want food out of the freezer and heated up on site then this place is for you. If you want something more authentic, look elsewhere.

I must say that lunch was ok not wow and for Hammersmith prices are expensive for the small food portions. Dim Sum seabass with fennel, for £5.20 for 3 tiny tiny pieces : could hardly taste seabass and fennel! The 3 prawn dumplings tasted ok but again 3 for £4.20 is a bit expensive! Same goes for Wan tan soup but at least it was priced under 4 pounds. These are restaurant prices and Steam is a café rather than a proper restaurant so prices are not justifiable...

This place is our favourite local restaurant. It is a hidden gem of bao goodness with a great variety of food. The dumplings are always fresh and interesting and the salt and pepper squid is amazing! It is always of great quality, the service is always brilliant and we love it! Definitely make a trip here!

Stayed in Hammersmith and didn't want to travel out to eat. Saw Steam featured on Opentable's website and had 4 star rating. Unfortunately, this was not or be. The service was very slow with just 1 server for the whole restaurant. Although the food was quite cheap, the quality of the food like steamed dimsum was just not good. Much nicer dimsum and fried noodles can be eaten at either London Chinatown or at Bayswater area. If you want good Chinese food, I would suggest that you make some effort to travel out and not go to this one.

Got a small selection of dim sum, carelessly delivered late by Deliveroo, and was not in the least impressed. Overpriced and mean portions. I find it hard to believe that they make all on their menu. Some look like stuff you can get in a Chinese supermarket. The smallest spring rolls in London with meagre fillings were probably made on the premises. Unbelievably expensive and worse than yer local greasy Chinese take-away.
