After a long day at work, my fiancée and I decided to go to for Chinese food.Based on TripAdvisor and other reviews we stumbled upon this place and decided to give it a go. Never have we seen such discrepancy between raving reviews and experienced reality. In short: food is basic, but very good to excellent, that much is true. But in the time between ordering the food and getting it, one can starve to death. We arrived at 19.15, ordered all by 71925-30. Starters arrived around 19.50. Main courses though arrived at 21h after three times reminding the staff that our food was late. The phone in the place kept ringing for 30 minutes. Nobody picked it up until we said that it is seriously disturbing. On top, staff managed to be rude to us.Bad place, best avoided.

We visit this restaurant several times a year when working in London. It is usually the highlight of our visit. This time it was dreadful. Our drinks arrived 20 minutes after ordering and our first course arrived 45 minutes after ordering and was cold. When we told the waiter it was cold she said - well it is ok to eat as it has been cooked. The main courses were average but again took a long time to arrive. We pointed out to the waiter and then the waitress our concerns and there was nothing done. The 12.5 % compulsory service charge is a joke. There were a lot of other people complaining and also the restaurant was not as clean as it used to be. We will not waste our time and go back.

There's so much good Chinese in Soho I've started to take it for granted, but this is one of the few restaurants I'd actually go out of my way for - Fulham is further afield, and this is a quiet bit of Fulham - as a destination, just for food, and not just as part of a general night out doing something else. The night I discovered it I had clams - exquisite, in their own liquor in the shells - and pig's intestines, a fairly rare thing to find on a menu and insanely good if you like offal. Totally "moreish" in a vinegary, bile-ish way and not like french andouillettes, pig's intestine sausages, which I find slightly disgusting. Since then the menu has become a bit more mainstream and tourist-friendly, with almost American-style subheadings like "Go fish!" and "Let us choose!" but the food is still flawless, although the intestines are no longer on offer. Service is also intelligent, friendly and generally delightful. Last time I was in about a month ago we noticed it was mainly Chinese customers with two family parties, which must be a good sign.

My visit to this restaurant was very disappointing and sadly I would say in more than one way. The dining area to the front is very small and I found we were jammed in a corner rather than seated, not a good start but you live in hope. The staff seemed pleasant at first, dropped off menus and a wine/drinks list. I requested tasting the house sauvignon blanc which arrived about five minutes later in a shot glass and I got the impression my request to taste was rather an inconvenience. It was not to my liking so rather than make a fuss I ordered a bottle of Chardonnay and just asked to ensure it was chilled. At least fifteen minutes passed, I watched our waitress come and go up with various bottles of wines showing them to her colleagues like she did not know what she was doing, eventually a Chardonnay was presented which was warm and when I questioned it I was then told the fridge was out of order. No problem, I will just have a vodka and slim line tonic and a bottle of beer for my friend, sorry no slim line tonic I was told, so no problem I will just have a normal tonic then I replied to be informed we do not have any vodka or tonic. I settled for a bottle of beer. I DONT DRINK BEER! Almost a half hour has now passed and we have not ordered food, we get to that eventually and I inform our waitress I cant have onion and she says fine we can do without, You got it! Our meal is presented with loads of onion in one dish, that's taken away and redone. The dishes were only just ok , the special fried rice was not so special and the steamed rice was at fridge temperature. I find you always know when you are fighting a loosing battle. I ate what I could and asked for the bill which was presented with SERVICE CHARGE, not optional or discretionary. I questioned this and no effort was made to discount the charge, I simply could not be bothered any more and my friend just wanted to leave. I paid and we left very disappointed and hungry. The overall experience was dreadful and time wasting. To the restaurant owners and managers can I just kindly say you need to up your game dramatically and respect when people visit your restaurant after a long day just be honest with them and if you cannot provide the service you advertise close you doors.

....this unfashionable corner of London offers a variety of good eateries, to which I now happily add the Taiwan Village. We sat near the door, hence didn't see the full extent of the empire, but the decor suggests very much traditional Taiwanese ambience - heavy mahogany furniture and statuettes, much greenery etc. We took it as a good sign that large family groups came and went and others were turned away in significant numbers because they were full ( on a Sunday evening ).The lemon chicken was pretty good and represented decent value, so we will be going back.

Ate here last night. Fantastic! We took two clients who also loved it. Based on a previous review we chose the "leave it to us" banquet for four. We made it really difficult for them by having one person who didn't eat fish, and one person who didn't eat meat. They were more than happy to accommodate this and brought out many servings of delicious food of each type, remembering each time who could eat what and who couldn't and positioning the dishes accordingly. Great ambiance and great value too. Highly recommended.

Very nice atmosphere and welcoming. Great choice of dishes, well made, offering something a little different. The only issue being is that they are rather tight with their portions and this is certainly not reflected in the price.

You are asked about allergies cultural / religious preference ie what type if meat etc or vegetarian the type if spice you like... I went for everything and spicy....and then the owner chef prepares an amazing feast..... Course after course was very authentic and tasty making my mouth zing with every morsel.......I really urge you to try and get a table and "join the family" of Taiwan village you be loved by your guests forever more.....!

We phoned up quite late tonight and they kindly agreed to hold a table for us. On arrival the tables were beautifully laid and we were given a warm wet wipe to clean our hands. The waitress was very attentive and kept our delicious green tea topped up. The mugs were even warmed up! We went for the set menu which was £21.50 pp, and included a variety of five lovely starters, crispy duck and rice vegetables and three main dishes (chicken and prawns). The portions sizes were perfect - not too big for that amount if courses. The decor was very nice too. Very good value for money and delicious food.

I've just moved flat, and this is now about five minutes' walk from me. Yippee! I said I'd try it out tonight, and it was fantastic.I was swiftly seated - but I was lucky; the place is small enough, and even late-ish on a Wednesday night I got the last table. The décor is nice, although I didn't see much of it, seated, as I was, just inside the door. Some strategically placed, and nicely varnished, wood blocks your view of the door and maintains privacy. I ordered "special" egg rolls and General Tso's chicken, which is in the Taiwan-specific section at the back of the menu. And the (slightly) more expensive of the two wines available by the glass. A rather apologetic waiter came to me shortly after I'd ordered, to say they didn't have any "long" wine glasses left and did I mind having a "short" glass? I dubiously agreed, and was duly served my wine in a brandy glass. Well, that's a first! Anyway, it was very nice. But no match for the food, which was spectacular. I made a point of saying that continually to them. The egg rolls were filled with minced beef, and were the most succulent I've ever had. The chicken was delicious. I skipped dessert, having a second glass of wine instead. Truly, a find - and just five minutes' walk from my new flat. Well now! There's a minimum charge of £15, but you would get a full dinner for that. As I said to the smiley proprietor as I was paying - "You might be seeing me again". Oh, they definitely will. A nice touch they have is that they hold the door for anyone leaving. Caveat - it took them a long time to find me a fork (I'm woeful with chopsticks!)

This small restaurant served up the best Chinese food that I've ever had. We went for the set menu at £22.50 per head and had a wonderful selection of starters and main courses as well as crispy duck. The food was beautifully presented, hot and very tasty. Although the portions were not large the four of us felt that they were just right as, despite the fact that ate everything, we were all pleasantly full at the end and I'm talking about four guys with healthy appetites! Staff were very friendly and welcoming despite the fact that we hadn't booked.

Despite the name this restaurant does not only offer food from Taiwan, but also spezializes in Sichuan dishes. This was our third visit and we were not disappointed. For starters we ordered the assorted hot appetizers and were pleasantly surprised, in particular by the crispy fried seaweed! The deep-fried hot and spicy squid was wonderful as well. Kung-Po chicken was tasty as always (but very hot!). The crispy aromatic szechuan duck with pancakes, cucumber, spring onion and plum sauce was okay, but we decided that it doesn't quite compare to peking duck. Service was friendly and attentive as always. We will surely becoming back here when we're in London the next time.

This place is smallish, with a sense of quietness and peace. The food was decent. The main problem is its tiny amount of meats in the so-called meat dishes. In addition, the total amount of food in its dishes was very tiny. We had three dishes. We would need six for two people. Not a good value.

After reading the reviews here and having the opportunity to visit Taiwan Village, my partner and I decided to dine at Taiwan Village for dinner. We were warmly welcomed and seated immediately by the window facing the busy road. Even though there was heavy traffic outside, that didn't disturb us in anyway. With the menus we were given towels to clean our hands (a nice touch) and within minutes we were served our drinks. We ordered General Tso's chicken (£6.50), Kung-Po Chicken in a hot spicy sauce (with water chestnuts and peanuts - £6.50), Egg Fried Rice £3.00 and Sauvignon Esprit de Serame 201 – a classic Sauvignon from the south of France, dry and fruity (£4.60 per glass)We were offered rice bowls which we declined and used the small plates they had placed on our table. However, using chopsticks the bowls would have been the correct choice! The overall experience was lovely. The atmosphere was relaxing, the service was friendly and fast, the food excellent. Even though the dishes were with soya sauce which at times can get boring and salty, there was a hint of caramel which was a lovely and inviting twist :-)The servings were small, so if you have a hearty appetite, then you might want to order an extra dish. However, with all the positive compliments, I just wish the music in the restaurant (like many others) would be good. When one songs keeps on repeating, it becomes a joke. Sometimes, they should just turn off the music. Let the food do the talking! It is right around the corner to Holiday Inn Express Earl's Court. So if you are around, go and enjoy a lovely dinner at Taiwan Village. I will certainly be returning back in the future!

This restaurant is not in the middle of the touristy section of London. We happened to be staying in the Brompton area so we were just a block away. This rivals some of the best Chinese food that we have had in San Francisco. What makes it even better is the wonderful service by the friendly staff. It is a short walk away from the West Brompton Tube stop and well worth a visit if you are in the London area. You will not be disappointed.

I think the chef here is the key to its success. The food on offer here is a mix of Taiwanese and Sechuan - mild and/or spicy. Most of the menu is original recipes from those regions. The Taiwan Village is quite small and cramped but when seated you are not really aware of that. I selected Won Ton soup, crispy prawns (very delicious...but forgot to get the special ingrediaent), crispy noodles with seafood and Taiwanese chicken & cashews - all delightful. Service was warm, freindly and inviting and neither rushed nor slow. Nice little haven for sampling some orinal Taiwanese and Sechuan dishes.

This is a restaurant I tend to eat visit when im on business in the area and it is usually very good but on my visit on 25/04/13 I was very dissapointed, the startyer of Mongolian lamb was very nice but when the main course dishes arrived every dish including the rice was swimming in oil so much so that each time you swallowed a mouthfull of food you were left with a coating of grease in your mouth. Also some collegues ate there the following night and they tell me their experience was not great either. It will be my last visit to the restaurant due to mine and my collegues experience's!

On arrival I asked for an orange and lemonade with no ice. I received a lemonade with a slice of lemon and ice. The Restaurant was not overly busy, I had my order taken promptly at about 7:30 then 15 mins in a waitress a came over with some crackers and apologised for my wait. Another 15 mins later I was assured that my first course would be with me shortly. At 8:15 I was told that there were no scallops left. I asked for my main of seafood noodles, it arrived at 8:30 then 5 mins later a whole tray of scallops was sent over to a large table nearby!!! It was then tried to be explained away as a set menu booking, despite me having had to wait 45mins to be told there were none left. I finished my noodles which were tasty. Then I waited another 10 mins for the bill, when I got it it wasn't my bill, I was by this time none to happy and they graciously decided not to charge me for the scallops! or the 10% service charge a bit rich considering I never received any service or scallops. Oh my lemonade was on the house. Never ever again.

When staying away from home I normally head for a pub selling decent food (check them out on Tripadvisor first of course). However this time I was with a work colleague and instead of the 'billy-no-mates' arrangement in a local pub it was a chance to try a restaurant. The Taiwan Village was well recommended so we decided to give a try. What we got was very good food, served in a good atmosphere by a very helpful and pleasant hostess, the restaurant was full and buzzing, no doubt testament to the good reviews on thos site. Wish we had a chinese as good as this back home. Yry it you won't be disappointed - make sure you book though, there aren't that many tables and it, rightly, a very popular place.
