Station Hotel in Aberdeenshire

This was an overnight stay with breakfast and dinner, so I experienced the full enjoyment of this family hotel. These hardworking and popular people are busy upgrading the hotel to modern standards, but they have kept the best of the traditional interior, small reminders of when this place was right at the centre of a very busy village, complete with railway line and agricultural mart, both of which have been repurposed to great effect. See Maud Railway Museum and Old Mart Cafe for details. The welcome at the Station Hotel is warm and informative, complete with unnecessary apology for some ongoing refurb noise. It's obvious everything's being done to a very high standard. The room was comfortable, clean and the tea tray contained an extra selection of fruit and herbal teas and a brunch bar that was more interesting than the usual biscuits. Evening meal was in the bar, where it quickly became obvious what a popular place this is for locals, including a jolly book group, and others who just popped in for a drink and a natter. The food was great, made all the more special by a section in the menu dedicated to local sources... and they really were (sometimes the word local does a bit of heavy lifting), so here's what was on my plate... fruit and veg from Longleys of Maud, seafood from McConnell's of Stuartfield and Peterhead and - when I return, which will be soon - most likely meat from Ewan Morris of Mintlaw and Stuartfield. Wow! And I have to give a shout out to the chef, especially for the smoked haddock fishcake, which is now up there with Cullen Skink on my delishfishometer chart. After a comfortable night, breakfast was in the oldest part of the hotel, a room filled with charm and history. I opted for the smaller breakfast as I was attending a morning event elsewhere, but the eggs were beautifully cooked and tasty, and I could have as much toast as I wanted. I was sad to leave this hotel with its lovely hosts and staff. A lot of bigger places could learn from the Station Hotel's Hospitality With A Heart.

We stopped over here while transporting a horse nearby we arrived tired and had such a lovely welcome from Colin and maggie They couldn’t be any more accommodating the bar was a hub of activity everyone was friendly and welcoming food was awesome and big portions room was lovely altogether a excellent local hotel definitely worth a visit

Colin and Maggie are so welcoming at the Station Hotel. There is a great atmosphere in the place and it is very busy, the hub of the village. We had an evening meal which was excellent. Great choice on the menu, huge portions and everything came out piping hot. Great value for money too. Highly recommend and only wish it was in my hometown.

Popped in for a lunch / early dinner. All staff serving were very nice.... The food was fantastic. Everything was clean and tidy. Really enjoyed our meals and pudding!!! Kids loved it too!! 👌

I stayed overnight at the Station Hotel when I was cycling the Formartine and Buchan Way. The bar had a nice friendly atmosphere . There seemed to be quite a few regular local people using it. The meal was really good. I recommend the home made steak pie - really tasty and very good quality steak. The room was very nice and the bed very comfortable. It did not have an ensuite bathroom but as that was next to my room, it was no problem. The breakfast was equally good. Prices were very reasonable and excellent value. Worth stopping over here.

Went in for the pizza night with the family for the 1st time to try it out as had heard good things from friends. Cannot fault the food, homemade 12inch pizza's is a win win in my books. Pizza choices was spot on, not too many to confuse the kids (and adults 😂 ) a brilliant night was had by all. Children more than welcome. Atmosphere is fantastic and prices are very competitive. Highly recommend and will be back again with the family.

Very accommodating and lovely staff. We had thought we had booked a table here but ended up being the station hotel in Ellon. Apparently it’s a common mistake. They set us up in the bar as they were fully booked for Mother’s Day. Food was lovely and service fantastic (very attentive). Will definitely be back.

Le repas était cuisiné par le patron, c’était très bon. L’ambiance était sympa, petit pub de campagne. Les patrons sont très sympathiques et se sont pliés en quatre pour nous. Accueil chaleureux comme à la maison par Maggie et son mari.

Our second stay was just as good as our first, which is to say that it was truly excellent. Maggie and Colin once again went out of their way to make us feel welcome, our room was large and spotless clean, the meals were delicious, and the value for money is second to none. We look forward to our next trip. Thanks for a great stay!

Just returned from the station hotel wow what a welcome. Colin and Maggie were absolutely fantastic hosts. They have only been in the hotel for a year but they make everyone's stay a memorable one. My husband stated he could not stay longer then a few days without putting loads of weight on as the food is fantastic. Have to give a shout out to nico as well he has both Colin and Maggie teaching him to be a great cook. The best little secret in Maud Aberdeenshire I hope to return soon and will never go past them Good luck to them they are the best hosts we have had the pleasure to stay with.

Just been at the hotel for an overnight stay with our family. Colin and Maggie were fantastic hosts, very welcoming, friendly and go above and beyond for you to ensure you enjoy your stay. The bar was well stocked with a range of different drinks. The outdoor benches was great to sit outside and relax in the scottish sun with a drink. We had a meal at the hotel too. This was absolutely delicious and scoffed by all, including 2 fussy teenagers. Quality produce and fresh home made cooking which went down a treat. Just wish we had room for pudding! Our rooms were spotless and clean. Beds were super comfy. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and perfect poached eggs went down a treat! Colin and Maggie are a lovely couple who make the stay more enjoyable. We will definitely return again soon. Thanks again xx

My wife, me and our dog booked a last-minute overnight stay at this gem of a hotel. The owners really went the extra mile to make sure that our stay was perfect; their welcome was genuine, the hotel and bar are clearly well looked after, our room was large, spotlessly clean and had everything we needed (including a welcoming gift of treats from the owners’ dog to our own dog), the standard of our evening meal and breakfast was absolutely first-class, and the tap beer had been looked after to perfection. To top it all off, the value for money is, in our opinion, simply unbeatable; we have stayed in some so-called ‘prestigious’ hotels where we easily paid at least double our bill at the Station Hotel but received a quality of service that was far poorer. The owners stated to us that their goal is to provide a quality customer care experience, and that really did show in every aspect of the service that we received. We cannot recommend the owners and the place itself highly enough, and we hope that this will be the first of many visits. Thank you Maggie and Colin (and Hamish the lab too)!

Stayed at the Station Hotel Maud for 5 days. Couldn't say enough about the welcome and friendliness of the new owners Colin and Maggie. Nothing was too much for them and they were like that with all their customers in the bar or lounge whether it be for drinks or food - very helpful. This area is a wee hidden gem. So central for places to visit. Beautiful walks and beaches. Would recommend it for walkers, cyclists, couples needing a get away break and for families. Lots of places to eat in the area, but we spent the weekend eating within the Hotel as the food was varied, freshly home made and definitely reasonable priced. And the Lounge had the perfect mood for relaxing while eating. Special thanks to the kitchen and waitressing staff , Niko, Charli and Kaitlin who were just lovely and equally attentive. The rooms were comfortable, clean and Maggie ensured we had everything we needed. All in all a great place to visit and stay. Will visit again.

The bar is spotlessly clean, the beer is kept perfectly, and so it's s great pint. The new owners are welcoming, friendly and fun. We haven't tried the food yet but plan to soon. We are new to the area and each time we call in here we are meet the friendliest people, and it's so family and dog friendly.

I have been in here many times in the last few weeks. The new owners Colin and Maggie are extremely friendly and can't do enough for you. Recently started doing food and its fantastic. Previous review is completley untrue.

Under new management..........Visited on Saturday afternoon with 6 adults and 3 babies. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Food was delicious good portion sizes and reasonably priced. Baby changing facilities available and plenty of space for the prams. Travelled from peterhead and will definitely be back again :)

We just taken ownership of the Station Hotel and currently we have the public bar running providing good hearty cheer We also have comfortable letting rooms though they have shared bathrooms en-suites are being planned to be installed this winter and consideration to using ta shared bathroom the price will reflect this to be cost effective to our customers We also plan to start good old fashion pub grub very soon We hope to see you soon Maggie and Colin

I was invited here to eat a Sunday roast. Not sure how many other words there are for amateur but I’d like to use them all. Whoever cooks and whoever takes photos in order to promote on social media needs to find another job. A total embarrassment to a long awaited establishment.

We stayed as a couple on the top floor - there was no en suite but it may as well have been, as we had sole use of the bathroom. Quiet, spacious, clean, comfortable and an utterly awesome breakfast that is big enough to last all day. Excellent hosts, too.

This restaurant is family friendly, great for a full breakfast, or lunch , or a great supper at night with friends for a change , the lady that owns it is lovely she is very friendly and very attentive , we found her great and when we left we already made our minds up too go back , which we have twice more, the menu is not a big menu which we were quite happy with as there was something on it for us all . It was quite tasty and well recieved , the decor is lovely a very Scottish feel to it and cosy . Well recommended

He pasado muchas veces y hace un par de semanas decidimos parar para almorzar con mi esposa.Tuvimos una comida fabulosa y muy razonable.Vimos que no los asados del domingo y decidí probarlo el domingo.La comida era genial y, de nuevo, el precio era muy razonable.Ahora utilizaremos este aguado como nuestro "Ir a "Restaurante local ya que sólo viven 6 millas de distancia.El personal muy amable y me comí ojalá nos hag comenzó a usar este encantador restaurante antes.

The restaurant is very homely situated in a small village. The service was great and the food was very traditional. I would highly recommend as the food was excellent and the price was very reasonable.

Planificación inesperado nos llevó a una visita de regreso a la estación de Hotel donde, en una ocasión anterior, habíamos disfrutado de una excelente comida en compañía agradable. Esta vez no fue diferente. Aunque la opción de menú no es grande, ofrece variedad y precios razonables para disfrutar de una buena comida. Pedimos entrantes de champiñones, seguido por platos principales de carne y pollo salteado. El bistec mediano era excelente y el pollo lo disfrutamos. Nos negamos, pero tenía postre, café y chocolate caliente en su lugar, todo servido eficientemente y con buen humor. Aunque no está llena, había un rumor sobre el lugar, con grupos de folclore local, disfrutando el comienzo de un fin de semana de haber visitado antes y no ha decepcionado, otra vuelta visita será en orden!

excellent night for my mums 70th bday, thanks to all staff for a perfectly run event. great place to hold a get together the function hall has its own bar and stage for entertainment

Very nice place to meet and eat. Good menu and reasonable priced. Good for families as larger tables in the back. Well worth a visit
