Absolutely terrible food, nearly £30 for 2 half decent suppers with a drink. Chips were definitely re-heats from day before and chicken curry was meat taken off a skewer and grilled with 2 dribbles of curry sauce. Will never return.

Didn't actually eat here but holy crap! Went in to get a scampi, chicken burger and plain sausage and chips. He wanted £23.80 for it! We left to "get cash" and ran off instead. The scampi and chips was £10 and chicken burger was £6 which means he wanted £7.80 for a plain sausage!! (it wasn’t up on the board). I think he was just making it up as he went along. Everything looked anaemic anyway and based on the rest of the reviews I'm happy we left

Abusive, horrid service and disgusting food…… 1 star is being very generous… Food - reheated scraps of chips, over cooked black pudding (hard as nails) under cooked hamburger (dripping with grease)… Service - tried to charge £6 for two 500ml bottles of Irn Bru when we said no, we didn’t want them they got very abusive, shouting, banging on the till, telling us to get out the shop and don’t come back… Manners and customer service is non-existent in this so called ‘takeaway’. My advice would be to avoid at all costs, disgusting food with a disgusting service to match… manners cost nothing…

Despite the name, the fellow had no starfish for sale. This made me sad as I like a fried starfish from time to time.

Food was absolutely bogin, where to start ? The unbreakable batter even though it was dripping in grease and somehow wasn't actually attached to the burger? It was like a burger jacket, the burger itself could have resoled my walking boots Or how about last night's chips sorry not chips but all the end bits reheated maybe the "buttered" roll that had at best a 50p size scrapping of some sort of yellow margarine, everything was either hard, greasy but everything was inedible. Price was shocking also. £17 for a hamburger and chips, portion of chips, 500ml coke and a coffee, only positive I have is the staff were pleasant enough and the place was clean. Avoid.....avoid.....avoid

Wow got a portion of chips £3 fine until counting them in the small tray 23 chips, thought I was back in Blackpool getting mugged . I know there is a cost of living but at least serve a normal potion size. The rest of the meals were also over priced. One of our group got a tray of kebab meat and again thought it was happy meal portion size.

Despite the bad reviews I wanted to give the place a chance. I was indecisive and asked the owner some questions, he was very rude and then he asked where I am from because my English is "soo bad". As he only takes cash it wasn't even possible to buy anything but I was upset anyway and left. The food looks terrible, avoid this place. He doesn't deserve your money.

Me and my husband had cod & chips with a 10in pizza nothing special but we both enjoyed it. Cost just under £20. Cash only

Bit odd, no sense of where to order, two areas asking for cash only, after several minutes of being bewildered a cheery chap asked what I wanted. That was the small shining light. The Fish Supper was indescribable. No idea what the batter was, some form of plaster that turned to wall board when fried. Dripping with grease, tasted awful, as did the fish, think it had been frozen, chips went in the bin. Never again.

Stopped in last night I got a battered sausage and chip. Suffered alnight with stomach cramps and today alday. I'm feeling soo rough and sickly this place should be closed down and also far too expensive

Really disappointing. Avoid. Charging London prices and the food is dripping with grease. Chips were ok, I suppose, but the batter on fish and sausages is so oddly thick it’s just sickly. Once it cools slightly it goes solid. We all just removed it and threw it away. I really regret going here, definitely the worst chippy I’ve ever been to and the food was so surprisingly bad it kind of ruined an otherwise nice day out :(

Kebabs, pizza, or fish and chips. Whatever you want all in one shop. Not the worst fish and chips I've ever had. I imagine pizza or kebab would be good.

Should be called the Crying Starfish because that’s exactly what mine was after eating here. Chips were nice so it’s the full reason for the extra star otherwise it was getting a one star. £3 for a 500ml bottle of juice is daylight robbery too. Would literally be cheaper driving to Ayr for a decent chippy and probably still have change, haggis was howling too.

Part of our order was a side of onion rings, two portions of chips with gravy and two portions of fish. The onion rings were not cooked properly and were dripping in oil. (Could not eat them) when we got home and opened the chip containers? They were drowned in curry (no sign of the gravy) so couldn't eat them. The fish was in a similar state to the onion rings undercooked and dripping in oil. For close to £30 for an inedible meal that went straight in the bin

Expensive, greasy and pretty rude staff. Fish supper had no taste other than the grease dripping from it. Chips looked dirty and tasted awful, my only guess is the fryer needed changed. Haggis was inedible. For a fish supper, single haggis and a 500ml bottle of juice and 2 pickles £17. Avoid at all costs. Wish I had read the reviews before going.

Sausage supper was expensive and disgusting, had to remove the batter from the sausage as it was dripping with oil, as for cost small bottle of diet coke it was £3 absolute robbery, definitely not be back.

Food was terrible, and gave me and my dad food poisoning and was up all night being sick. The sausage, fish and chips were dripping in grease and the chips were half cooked

Got a kebab and chips, and wee bottle of cola from here..£15.00 The chips had a terrible taste to them, odd oil! Kebab was ok, nothing special, I wouldn't buy it again. The place looked really clean and tidy though and staff were pleasant and happy.

BE AWARE if you go to this takeaway that it's very expensive . I was shocked at the prices of things for example tray of donnor meat costing £10 and £2 each for tub of sauce!! In comparison takeaways in Castle Douglas a tray of donnor meat will costs you £4.60 and sauce is 50p!! that's less than half price for the donnor and only a 1/4 of the price for sauce. I definitely will not be going back here again. I also didn't find the staff to be very friendly.

Great Fish and Chips Plenty of choice. Been a few times and have always had a good meal. Fish is usually cooked Fresh. Will definitely go again Just remember Cash Only

£6.40 for a sausage supper !!! With only one sausage in it, didn't taste good an dripping with grease, should have read the reviews before going in , won't use again rip off , my local charges £5.40 and you get 2 large sausages an plenty of chips, avoid this place unless you've got deep pockets

Greasiest chippy food I've ever had, literally dripping in it, and today I've got the sh*ts which isn't great on a 39 mile bike ride!!

I always get a fish supper, 7 quid, the last 3 times ive been the chips have been fine, the batter was nice and crispy. To be honest though the very first couple of times i went the batter was soggy and the batter is my favourite part, but since its been fine, it can be a hit and a miss, if you time it right and get one thats freshly cooked its good.

Wrong times suppose to shut at 11 but shut half an hour earlier even though the star inn is beaming they could of made ALOT money

Came here when we went to newton for a bit of shopping. Was fancying a pizza at the time. Went in, to see a man sat on his seat in the corner on his phone. Took about 5 mins before he bothered to ask how he could help. Looked at the pizza menus for about 10 mins while he watched us. Went to order and he said no pizzas at this time, so that was okay, let’s go to the other board in the shop, looked at burgers for 5 mins, about to order and he says no burgers at this time. So then we decided, okay if we can’t have them. Then we will order chips, cheese and curry. Asked for 2 portions and then he proceeded to tell us it was £12 for 2 portions of chips, cheese and curry. Went to pay and then he tells us there’s no card payments. So at this point I told him we were away to a bank machine to get some money. Ended up jumping in the car and going back to town and getting a pizza that I intended to get in the first place. Lesson to be learned here. Don’t over charge customers. It’s 2023. Get a card machine. And also don’t open the shop if over half the items on the menu can’t be served.

We have just had fish & chips from the Star takeaway and sadly it really was the worst both for fish and chips that we have ever had. The fish was undercooked and the batter which was very oily was the colour of magnolia paint-really it was-as were the chips except they had been reheated (not refried) several times, and so were as tough as old boots. We parked up to eat them but ended throwing them away as they were so bad. It was a totally wasted £19 for absolute rubbish, I never usually leave bad reviews but the man serving was rude and brusque to add insult to injury, and is definitely off the Xmas card list!

Expensive greasy horrible , ignorant staff

Me and my two friends went for a bite to eat (£30 order). I have never been served by someone so rude.. after asking for a napkin we were looked at in disgust. Instantly regretted spending my money in a place where the staff have 0 manners. One thing is for sure - I’ll not be back.

Went in ordered small chips, large battered sausage and a bottle of pop £9 ! And it’s was cash only ! Absolute joke, sounds like the food isn’t good by all the reviews, glad I walked out and said nah I don’t think so, that’s daylight robbery !

Donner meat and chips for £12.00 takin the pi** small tray and Donna looked and tasted like cooked the night before not fresh at lunch time best avoid this place at all cost 😕

What a great little takeaway, with a massive selection. Staff were welcoming and attentive. Only ordered chicken fillets and curry sauce, but it was perfect. 4 perfectly cooked pieces of chicken in an amazing batter... With a superb tub of curry sauce to go with it. The whole experience was a delight.

I like the food here, they do a good calzone, but i'm very put off ordering because the staff are just awful, always frowning at me and yelling.

Not sure what all the poor reviews are about - this place is clearly popular as it was busy when we visited on a Thursday evening. Huge selection of food options on offer, reasonable prices, fast and friendly service, and good sized portions of tasty food. We went for haggis & chips, king rib & chips, cheeseburger & chips, doner kebab & chips, chicken kebab & chips, and a large cheese pizza. No complaints from anyone involved - ignore the haters! A suspicious number of the 1-star reviews are from people who've never reviewed anything else before so suspect this may be targeted. NOTE: this takeaway is cash only, so don't forget to visit the ATM beforehand.

Had 2 fish & chips £16 .service was good fish was cooked as we waited. Not the greatest soggy greasy batter on the fish and not the nicest chips. I won't be rushing back here to try again.

Pizza’s and garlic bread with cheese ok,nowt special . Unfortunately I also got a large donna kebab and it has to be the worst kebab I’ve ever eaten. Large !!!!! Joke it was the smallest kebab I’ve ever had and the largest piece of meat was about the size of a 50 pence coin. It was obviously all the scrap pieces from previous days but I wasn’t travelling 8 miles back to complain.Total waste of money Will be giving this place a wide birth in future.

Visited this this takeaway a couple of times but appalled at the staff attitude towards me. I bought a tray of chips to find they weren't cooked properly ( still white) and my last visit i dared to ask for the chips done crispy, money snatched off me and my change slammed onto the counter. Won't be visiting again to say the least.

Gave this a 1 star only cause I can't give it 0 stars. Probably the worst pizza iv ever had. Thick chewy sweet dough. Burnt crusts, soggy middle . Thick horrible cheese. Even my dog left the crust

This is the worst chip shop I’ve ever had the chips were dry and had a smell the fish my grandson picked it up and the grease ran out the bottom all over his T-shirt I took a bite of the haggis had to spit it out it was vile not to mention the b o from the guy that served us very rude and in need of a good scrub

I cannot tell you how good the burgers are for here. Went for a ½ pound cheese burger with mayo and chilly sauce. My man smashed it out of the park. Salad as fresh as a spring morning, bun toasted to perfection, burgers with perfect grill lines, and two, yes two slices of burger cheese. This burger was served to me 6 inches high, If Mr T. was here he'd say, quit your shilly shallying and eat this burger. Word.

Fish and chip supper greasy and inedible. Sausage chips and gravy was the same the gravy tasted like it had been made with old chip fat. I've written a separate small review for pizza which was excellent.

Omg where do I start,I will start with the guy who served me, very rude,the pizza was good, but the chips were minging,greasy and absolutely disgusting,and the king rib was so awful he couldn't eat it.

Is this the only chippy in Newton Stewart?? If so someone open one. You could sell Mccain oven chips and Youngs oven fish and it would be 10x better. Really looked forward to a fish supper but unfortunately the batter was swimming in grease and the chips weren't much better. Spent nearly £50 on our food but very disappointed. The only good review I can give is that the pepperoni pizza my son had was very tasty. Probably won't go here again.

Drove to this takeaway last night as it stated it was still open - to 11pm I got there at 10:44pm as I walked in looking at the menu that had pizza’s pakora etc I was told it’s only what’s left at the other side - couple of sausages & something else. I said can you not make a pizza or pakora - I was told very abruptly no it’s only what left. I said what about chips he said yes can do chips. The manner & the way he spoke was the rudest experience I’ve ever had - made me feel like I wasn’t wanted in the shop my money wasn’t good enough terrible experience. We ordered and paid then we were told to wait outside to close & lock the door - it still wasn’t even 11pm yet. So we waited in the car for a good 10mins & in this time people were arriving at the window collecting food one of which was a pizza that probably took the time we had been there to order so not sure why we were refused a pizza. Anyway we were finally called to collect our food at the window 10-15 mins later for food that was apparently ready! Got home with our meal - it was simply okay nothing special or that food that would make me want to return. But the customer experience was horrendous I did say when collecting my meal at the window about the closing time & how maybe it should be updated online to state the food stops at a certain time instead of allowing customers to drive to their shop in the belief it doesn’t close till 11pm!!

We ordered for take away a veg pizza and chips. Both were good. Pizza was really nice and if you like that the dough is thick then you will like it. Plenty of veges was on top (more colour bell pepper, mushrooms, jalapeno, onions (yellow and purple), pineapple, olives (black and green).

Tasteless pizza, and soggy uncooked chips.

Had avoided this place because of reviews until now. Had a kebab last night. Have to say I was really impressed. Kebab tasted like actual lamb, the veg was fresh, the bread was lightly toasted, and the garlic mayo is really good. The meat wasn't greasy, the whole thing tasted really good, even the next day. I would say that this is closer to the real Turkish kebabs ive tried abroad. Will definitely be going back to have another kebab or try other things on the menu.

Got a cheese pizza meant to be well done and chips cheese and coleslaw pizza was not cooked through and was no cheese in chips cheese and coleslaw phoned place they said they would change it i thought that was good till got to shop man had cooked a fresh pizza and chips with cheese and coleslaw then said wasnt his pizza other worker in shop told him it was and he went crazy and threw all of them in the bin and in a huff said im getting nothing and he told his worker to give me my money back wow just a really angry litle man

I never do reviews but I just have to. Stay away from this place. Rude staff and disgusting food. The worst chippy I ever been to. Fish and chips- fish been sitting there for hours then they serve it to you instead of frying fresh, the chips been absolutely burnt , never seen chips dark like that. Undercooked pizza if I can call it that. Fried chicken was eatable. How can you ruin pizza I will never know. Also it’s overpriced for what it is.

I had to leave review after my experience in this shop, first time we ordered x2 fish and chips got back home the chips was burn, could only eat like few of them,fish felt like it been reheated multiple times i tough it was just a bad day for them or something like that so 2 days later went ther again despite first experience, second time we ordered 12" size pizza and x6 chicken tights and we paid 17.80 for it, after that i released x6 chicken tights cost us 9.80 because pizza was 8.00, worst from all of that was pizza when i open the box i knew that wasn't cooked enough dough was undercooked in middle and burnt outside, couldn't eat even 1 slice out of it, i read previous reviews and decided i won't achieve nothing by taking it back as previous reviews said they was rude and forced them leave the shop after returning the food and asking for refund, so that was expensive chicken that was alright to eat when you really hungry. Avoid avoid avoid!!! You better off getting chinese just around the corner

I came here to grab chips for lunch as i was busy working in the area. All my chips are brown(burnt), hard and dry. Wouldnt send my worst enemy here.

Had a special Fish supper which costs us 9 quid and they wanted 20p for sauce. One fish of which we could not eat because it was so thick with bread crumbs and grease. The chips were small and greasy too. I would even feed this to my dog. The people serving where very rude. Absolutely disgusting and will never be back..
