Unfortunately I have to leave a negative review which I would not normally do however this once wonderful Chinese has clearly changed hands recently and tumbled very far downhill from being the best Chinese restaurant in Swansea by miles to the worst I've been to in a long time. I'm leaving this review because there is no overt indication that there has been a change of management but it is obvious in a few ways including a distinct lack of Chinese clientele who were once abundant. We were offered traditional vegan and non-vegan menus which were the identical menus we were used to and all ordered familiar dishes. While waiting we were asked several times to confirm items that had been ordered off the menus which has never happened before and communicated a lack of confidence from the kitchen staff. We also all noticed that cutlery was sticky to the touch so clearly not clean and that plates did not look clean (the women's toilet is also pretty disgusting). Then when the food came out nothing looked familiar and in place of the beautiful velveted pork and beef we are accustomed to in our non-vegan dishes were stir fried pork and beef rolls, the kind served on platters for flash-cooking in a hotpot, which were horribly over cooked and chewy. If the restaurant cannot produce the meals on their non-vegan menu, why offer it? The smoky depth of flavour from the wok has also completely vanished. We have been here many times before and have always cleared our plates and wondered at the high standard of the food but this time I ate nothing, it was inedible slop. We also had to endure the chef coming out and speaking loudly with another table declaring the hotpot to be the best in the UK because of the special chillies he uses that can't be sourced by anyone else! Oh come on! A level of arrogance we have never seen even a glimpse of before. Oh come on! A level of arrogance we have never seen even a glimpse of before. To add insult to injury, on being handed our menus, we were directed to observe a sticker that had been placed on the vegan menus saying all prices were increased by £1 for sit-in customers. So we actually paid more to eat much less at a restaurant trying to pass itself off as something it most definitely is not. I can only assume the management has changed - nobody I saw tonight was familiar to me from our previous visits. However even if this isn't the case, there has been a big change here and not a positive one. Whether it has indeed changed hands or just changed suppliers or chefs, I think that the restaurant should be upfront about this rather than trying to pass itself off as the same Star Bar Swansea knows and loves.

Not sure if there's a mix up with Just Eat or something, but on their site it said this restaurant was delivering right now. I did think this a bit strange at 10am for a Chinese but went ahead anyway. Order cancelled. No explanation. Well you missed out on £40 of orders and you wasted my time. Sort it out with Just Eat ffs. Now I'll go somewhere else.

Lovely authentic Chinese restaurant. We had a round table for 10 adults which was ready for us when we arrived. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The vegan menu is huge and the meat menu is very extensive. There are both usual and unusual dishes but you won't get chicken balls and crispy beef as you'd expect them to be. You'll get frogs legs and chilli pork and so much more. Half the food we ordered was vegan. It was tasty and the waiter explained how they use separate woks, different oils, different parts of the kitchen to cook it, so I think vegans can eat here with confidence. Service was excellent. We felt welcomed and were treated with kindness, politeness and good humour. We will definitely return and are very happy to recommend this restaurant.

I had food delivered via UBER EATS. Usually when I have a vegan Chinese takeaway the meat substitutes are squeaky against your teeth, food is bland, not much food and soggy. I read the reviews of this restaurant before I ordered… the good and the bad and I decided I wanted to try for myself and make up my own opinions… This is what I ordered: Vegan sharing platter Vegan crispy beef Vegan chicken curry Vegan prawn rice The vegan crispy beef was nice and crispy with plenty of vegan beef. The vegan platter had a selection of 5 items on there. The vegan prawn rice tasted delicious. And the vegan chicken curry was fabulous. The portion sizes for the dishes was great!!! (Well apart from the vegan platter and that’s only because I enjoyed everything so much I wanted more!!!!). Everything tasted delicious, I honestly cannot fault it. I only wish I found out about this restaurant along time ago!!! Excellent value for money and the texture, flavour and portion sizes was spot on. I think I have found my new go to Chinese restaurant. If I could I would love to ask for your recipes as they are fabulous but you probably won’t give them as you would rather keep me as a customer lol. Thank you again for fantastic service. I will be ordering again.

Fantastic meal. We were uncertain of what to eat, as this is more traditional Chinese food. The guy in there helped us choose our meals and we weren’t disappointed. Turned out to be much tastier and fresher than our normal takeout.

This is an authentic Chinese restaurant with a menu that is mainly authentic. If your used to European style Chinese restaurants, this is probably not for you. We travel to Asia quite a lot and the menu here is on par with the places we have visited and as per some of the other reviews on trip advisor, it is not for everyone. There is a decent choice on the menu and after ordering a chicken dish, the waiter explained that they cook their chicken differently. It is dipped in flour and then fried, I had seen this done before and it was very good. Service was good and food was tasty and well presented, we will return again when next visiting Swansea.

Saw this little Chinese restaurant, menu was on the window, all the usual dishes you have at a Chinese. Booked a table for 9, waiter bought the menu, completely different from the one on the window, i asked for a chicken curry, he had to go and ask if they could do one, which i found very strange, he came back and said yes, ordered our meal and a beer and a can of coke. He came back with the drinks and 1 glass, so had to ask him if i could have a glass. Both myself and my husband used the toilets, they were filthy, what we should have done was walk out. The meal arrived, my chicken curry was orange colour and so spicy, the food was not nice at all. A couple came and sat on the next table, he also ordered a chicken curry, his rice came out 10 minutes before his curry, i waited to see if he said anything about it being spicy, all i will say is he left everything and said thats the worst food he has ever had. Lastly be careful how you pay for your meal, if its by card you will end up paying around £10 more.

I recently visited this Chinese whilst working in Swansea, we went in expecting a typical Chinese restaurant, which at first glance it is, but once your in and sit down it quickly becomes clear that this is not a normal Chinese, it is only aimed at Asian people, not for English, you will not find any dishes like you would usually, it’s all pigs knuckles, ears, intestines, ducks tongue frogs legs etc the list of weird horribleness is endless, I’m not joking this is what they actually sell, I won’t be going back, the people who work there were really nice but the place is not for me

On entering the premises there was no welcome but was told straight away that payment was by cash only. We were not offered any drink's and then waited ages appx 30 minutes to order our meal. The meal was not up to the standard of the Chinese food we have had over the past 40 years. In other words I will not be returning to this establishment and would not recomend it to others.

Second time we have eaten here and once again an excellent experience. A really exciting menu with Szechuan and Hunan dishes as well as many we have never heard of. Beware of the absolutely huge portions! With so many exciting dishes it's easy to over order, but we have failed to finish both our meals here. They will happily pack up the remainder for you and it's fine the next day. We found all our dishes excellent especially the sweet and sour fish and the beef with cumin. Some dishes are chilli hot as is normal with Szechuan/Hunan food, but none are over salted or msg'ed as is too often the case. Friendly waiter and waitress and complementary tea at the end of the meal. Now Ocean has closed its our new favourite in Swansea. We must try the hot pots the Chinese students on the next table were having.

Our monthly visit took us to the Star Restaurant. We had heard it was more authentic than the 'usual' Chinese Restaurants and so it was. We knew it was going to be good as there were quite a number of Chinese people eating there. We had duck, tofu, lamb, chicken and pork dishes - all were excellent even though they were quite 'hot!' We had a vegetable soup to start which was more than enough for the 6 if us. Everything we had was freshly cooked and more than ample - in fact we didn't quite finish all the dishes but only because we were bursting at the seams by then. Good night and reasonably priced.

We were visiting the area and just picked a restaurant from trip advisor. To be honest we didn't realise this was an "authentic" Chinese restaurant. When we got there we were very unsure. We were handed a menu full of pictures of food and to be perfectly honest none of it really appealed to us. It was very unlike our British version of Chinese. However, we decided to stay and picked up a couple of dishes each. By the end of the evening I can honestly say we couldn't have visited a nicer place. The food was absolutely delicious. Large portions, hot and freshly prepared. The staff were very good at explaining the dishes and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. It made me want to return numerous times to sample more "authentic" dishes.

the food here is absolutely amazing and I'm always excited to try it but the service is awful. It takes about 30 mins for someone to come over and even take a drinks order. Understandably by that time we were all very hungry then waited another 50 mins before our food even arrived.

Best Authentic Chinese restaurant in Swansea you want real Chinese food MUST COME HERE!!!! I've seen bad reviews from people who think they know how Chinese food should be and saying they've been to loads of Chinese restaurants before all Chinese restaurants are different as they are different styles from different parts of china you can't come in to a authentic Chinese restaurant and say to Chinese people this isn't how it should be or why is their bones on the meat!! What are you 12? The purpose for this restaurant is to give you the experience of eating proper Chinese food I highly recommend this place as you will experience amazing tasty food (not your corner takeaway with chips and curry sauce) if you ever walk past you must try you will not regret your decision!

Having had this restaurant recommended by a Chinese friend, we decided to give it a try on one of our dates and honestly I'm so glad we did! The restaurant is really pretty and spacious and the staff incredibly hospitable. Most dishes are affordable and (at least the ones we had) generously portioned but most importantly very authentic compared to what I have tried before and what is popular in most Chinese restaurants. That being said, its always a bit of a risk whether a dish is to everyone's liking, like for example us not liking the roasted duck but thats always a part of trying new food! Furthermore, they offered us some delicious flower tea and were very helpful when we tried to choose a meal. Cant wait to go back next time I'm in Swansea :)

This was our first of many visits to a fairly well hidden gem of a Chinese restaurant and bar!We were totally impressed by the atmosphere on arrival. The spacious room was quietly bustling with diners who were all of oriental descent, making us very welcome interlopers. The waiting staff were very polite and friendly, willing to give advice and knowledgeable about the dishes. The menu is probably the best quality I have ever seen! Each dish was accompanied by a professionally shot photo and the layout easy to follow. We were spoilt for choice. We didn't order starters (as it turned out, a wise decision) and ordered a range of main courses featuring tofu, crispy sliced pork, broccoli, rice, noodles, beef, etc. The portions were very generous. The three of us were certainly not hungry when we left. The food arrived promptly, piping hot and really well presented. Each dish was delicious and unique from the vivid green broccoli to the sticky, crunchy fried pork in sweet and sour sauce (not your run of the mill sweet and sour). Towards the end of our meal, the waitress brought out a plate of crispy chicken bites. These were succulent and aromatic. Again, not like chicken balls from a takeaway. We noticed 5 young Chinese men had a pot and burner on their table. The staff kept bringing vegetables, meat, fish etc out and they were dipping these into the sectioned pot (4 different 'soups'). This was a traditional Chinese buffet and smelled delicious. It costs £16.99 per person and is unlimited in reorders. I'll be trying that next time. Our bill, including a drink each worked out at about £15 per head. Highly recommended!!

Overall our first visit was like an exploration. The cuisine is authentically Chinese and the choices a little daunting. My wife had recently entertained Chinese visitors and we were both keen to taste the real thing. The first impression we had was that the portions were very large and as there were only two of us we would need to choose wisely. The waitress was very helpful and although language issues did not help matters we eventually ordered a starter to share, 3 mains and a fried rice. It proved far too much eventually but we are now more informed for our next visit. The dishes were all cooked fresh and the separate ingredients tasted fresh and clean. The hot dishes proved to be hot with lots of fried dried chillies. I would have preferred fresh chillies. The Chinese green tea was excellent, flavoured with Jasmine it was light, aromatic and refreshing. We will have to return and next time we will take friends and family.

Visited this restaurant with my husband and thirteen year old daughter. Most of the clients were chinese which is always a good sign. The restaurant was very hot and humid partly as some diners were cooking /poaching their own food at the tables. The menu had very unusual dishes lots of which were pork based. The dishes we ordered were tasty except for the half roast duck which was chunks on the bone, it was fatty, and only luke warm. Service was slow but staff friendly.

Every time I visit this establishment (normally in the day) it is always very quiet, but it is very clean, the staff are wonderfully friendly and intuitive, and always ready to assist when you are looking for a member of staff. There seems to be a little bit of a language barrier, but ultimately the staff are polite and friendly, and able to determine or at least work out your needs. The food is absolutely divine, I have never had a bad meal here, and the portion sizes are so generous that my friend and I tend to order for one and share. The bathroom signs also inject light humour into the sophisticated restaurant.

Yes there are the usual things on the menu, but pigs' feet? What about brisket with noodles?I had both, following my maxim of ordering something strange in case you never see it again, and this was a good idea as they were both delicious (I like pork and that glutenous feeling of slow cooked skin and the sauce was a great spicy broth affair) but a bad idea as they were good sized portions!I would certainly come here again

Went last night, we were the only ones there for the majority of the time as the only other diners who happened to be Chinese , always a good sign when visiting a Chinese restaurant , left after about ten minutes. This left us with a very exclusive experience. The food was delicious and the menu was laid out like a photo book, took a bit longer to decide as the pictures looked very inviting and so it was difficult to choose! I had the first one on the cover of the menu, a chef's special, a french creamy dish with prawns, not very Chinese I thought but very delicious. The potions were big too. Prompt service. Would love to go back.

We ordered a take away from the Star one dish was way too salty to eat and the other full of bones! I called the restaurant to complain where a very aggressive man grunted that's the way Asian people like it! My wife is Asian and she also did not eat the food! Very unhelpful would recommend avoiding this place as there are nicer more friendly places to dine in Swansea! Very disappointed with the food but mainly the attitude when I complained, shame on you Sir!

Went here for a meal recently and I guessed straight away that this wasn't a typical Chinese restaurant - the menu is full of colour photos and the text is in Chinese with English underneath it!The menu is full of dishes I've never tried before so if you're looking for a typical Chinese meal I don't think you'll find it here.I had a spicy diced chick dish that sounded like a Kung Po chicken dish i.e. spicy red sauce. The waiter told me that the chicken had bones which sounded odd but I ordered it anyway. What I got was diced chicken with small bones left in it (as I assume meal on the bone is more tasty) - not what I'm used to i.e. having to pick bones out of diced chicken but the flavour was really good. Reminded me of a deep fried chilli beef type of consistency but with chicken - but good flavours and the fried rice was cooked to perfection. Beer was ice cold and prices very reasonable for the food I had

Usually don't do reviews but this deserves one^^ Growing up with Chinese food and the variety of food in Asia, I'm very picky especially it comes to food. If it's slightly low par my taste buds won't take it, period, nada, food goes down garbage and complaints made. I've had all my Chinese takeaways from this restaurant, especially during rainy days or after a busy day of work, warm and authentic yummy chinese food just lifts your mood up. I usually order the crabs (you can ask the waiter to change it to ginger onion crabs if u can't take spicy as I always order the ginger onion crabs because my boyfriend can't take spicy :D) and definitely the sautéed chinese vegetable which is a must if you're eating like a Chinese! Usually order 10 times a month from here and honestly it's like eating home food! Really recommend here with friendly service and quick delivery, and of course the fingerlicking good meal !

Great Menu range and authentic dishes. Lots of Chinese Diners (Always a good sign). The food is a little pricey but the portions are large, my husband and I always buy 2 dishes that we share between us and we are always stuffed leaving there. Delicious flavoursome food. The Spicy shredded beef starter is awesome and the Oxo beef is delicious. Don't go there if you expect your average Chinese takeaway dishes. We have dined twice there on Groupon vouchers and wouldn't hesitate to return and pay full price. My friend and I were the only two Brits in a restaurant that was packed out with Chinese diners, always a good sign. I could have been anywhere in China and that was the first delight giving the place a really authentic feel and atmosphere The food was stunning with none of that nasty MSG aftertaste one gets in other so called" top" ??? Chinese Restaurants in Swansea that largely inflict on their customers, heated up mass produced sauces covering up poor quality meat. The portion sizes were good but my only criticism was that the food went cold as I could not eat it quickly enough so some warming plates would be helpful in future and this was a point I made.

I was really excited about ordering a takeaway from star bar because it seems to have rave reviews saying it's amazing and authentic. I found it over priced, over cooked and not good quality food. My favourite part of the meal was stir fried broccoli with garlic but the bits at the bottom were in a revolting sludge so I only ate the top pieces of broccoli. Costing over £5 for a tub of sludgy stir fried broccoli is a bit steep too. The salt and pepper king prawns were fried to a crisp...a dried up shrivelled crisp. The bbq pork which was £11 was a small tub of dried up bland pieces of meat which were neither appetising or delicious. The egg fried rice was average. I barely ate any of it and was left unimpressed. We won't be ordering from them again.

The most impressive thing about this restaurant is its menu, lots of lovely pictures. Shame about the food. Service was average, the waitress was Chinese and her English was not good so she couldn't explain the dishes very well at all. We ordered a chicken dish and a specialty fish dish. The main fish ingredient was Crab Sticks. Now I don't think reconstituted fish dressed as crab sticks deserves a place in any dish at any time. They are tasteless. The chicken dish was a plate of chicken leg knuckles severed with a great sauce. You might say, its authentic Chinese but I have had this dish before in Singapore and I know that leg knuckles are not the main ingredient, chicken is! And I don't think that Crab Sticks are native to China. Ok, the bones might add flavour to the sauce but they are inedible and have no meat on them, add some proper meat and discard the knuckles before serving and hey this would be a great dish. Its pretty expensive too. There was a number of Chinese customers eating there, which is a good sign, but on inspection they were all eating rice dishes. So the rice must be good. We had noodles, which were average at best and over priced.

Having visited numerous Chinese restaurants, we stumbled upon this place down green dragon lane - almost placed in that road to signify it's Chineseness.Upon entering there were 2 tables occupied by 4 Chinese people a sure sign that the food was authentic.Great water came over and explained "all our food is made with proper ingredients, is authentic and traditional" not sure exactly what he meant we looked at the menu to be greeted with pictures of the food. (Had we been abroad I would have said this was tacky but..)we decided on our food and when it came - we were amazed.Hot n Sour Soup - now this was a meal in itself - a big bowl with glass noodles, prawns, and flavored with chillies. Then sweet n sour pork and not small cubes in batter with that red sauce but proper pieces of pork in a crispy light batter with an almost honey like treacle with chilli and garlic and just a touch of ginger. We also had proper sechuan chicken with peppers and onions and loads of whole chilli on the plate to add flavour. Then vegetable fried rice.Plus 2 soft drinks and all for under £35.Will we b back - of course, there is plenty to choose from. One word of advice this is perhaps not so good for children unless u ask for no spices but that ruins the flavour, although u might like ur kids to try as I've been hooked on Asian cuisine since I was 4!!!The waiter is good too - friendly and talks about the food with passion.

My last and final visit. It must have been my fourth visit since it opened and I can only say it has gone from good to extremely terrible. The first visit was the week it opened and I tried it as there was a discount. The food had a colorful presentation to it and the taste had a little twist from usual Chinese meal, mainly it was spicy and vinegary. The second and third time just got worst as they didn't have a lot of things on the menu. Some of the basic things on the menu like roast pork and duck obviously wasn't fresh and the experience made me decide not to go there again. Yesterday my family booked a table for a celebration there and I had no choice but to join. The outcome was a ruined night for everyone. The seafood that was ordered in advance was the worst I ever had ( no joke) not only had it became obvious that it was not fresh, when we asked for all the food not to be spicy because of young children being present, everything was made spicy to cover up the fact that the food was not fresh. the turbot texture was like lemon sole. The scallops was streamed so long it literally shrinked to a third of size.Half of the deserts on the menu was not available and the service was just terrible. I would have given no stars but it seems that you have to give at least one.

We can only second everything already said about this restaurant. Friends of ours 'found it' hidden down on Green Dragon Lane and didn't stop raving about the quality and choice of food. They took us a few weeks later and we weren't disappointed. As they had been before we took their advise, we shared 3 different starters - some vegetarian, they were outstanding. Hubby and I shared our mains - it's nice to share and taste everything. Recommendation was the 'salt and pepper flat fish'. I was not impressed as never tried Chinese fish before but, OMG to die for.Dessert was not the best but 'hey hoh' after the starter and main we were stuffed anyway. Traditional chinese food, which really tantalises those taste buds. Food is freshly cooked... And is a nice change from the many bland chineses I have had over the last few years. It was great to have Chinese food with a menu not based on Cantonese and western cooking, but some Western dishes are available. The food was deliciously spicy and the helpings were plentiful. The veggie dishes were really side dishes and the only disappointment. Tofu may be a better choice. There were a lot a fish dishes and the jelly fish starter and fish in hot sauce were both really good and inexpensive. Duck, pork and beef dishes were also good. The crab had been recommended by friends as excellent but alas there were none in the market the day we called. There are a series of soft drinks available,, including various tasty iced teas and alcoholic cocktails as well as Tiger beer. We would recommend trying this place down a side street in central Swansea but we will only be back when the veggie menu is brought up to speed.

Very good quality and quantity of food with cheaper price than other Chinese restaurants in UK. Haven’t seen any dishes more than £10 each, which is very rare as most are around £11-13. We have three people and the price is around £28, and it’s a lot of food that I was very full that day. In other places it’s often around £45. Just need to walk a little longer to get to this restaurant. Best Chinese restaurant I’ve been in UK.

The food was not so great. I don’t eat pork so they substituted pork with chicken. But it was smelling funny. I am not sure if it was supposed to be like . It was one of the expensive food I ate. I paid 10 pounds . 3 pounds for spring roll which were fine enough (the frozen ones are better) and 7 pounds for a spoon of soup. It was smelling very weird. So we left the whole bowl of soup. No hate to the owner , but I won’t prefer it again
