They didn't have more than half of the dishes on the menu and therefore you had almost no options to choose from. Fast and correct service.

Service was great friendly staff but the pub is turning in to a ghost town.. rarely see it busy anymore and am I surprised ? Turned up to go for a meal on Tuesday 20th August and arrived to a closed down pub came again for a roast dinner on Sunday 25th August greeted and sat at our table after discovering we needed to get the menus ourself and reading them for about 5 minutes someone then decided to come over and say no roast dinners today! now I no why it was just my table and 3 others it’s a shame to see a pub that was at peak slowly dying….

Lovely pub with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Really tasty food quickly delivered as well. Appreciated the kindness shown in refilling a lemonade when my daughter knocked hers over. Would visit again if ever coming this way.

Where to start?? The online website states the kitchen is operating from 11.30 until 9pm and pub open until 11. This is only the beginning. My daughter passed all her exams so we decided to go out and celebrate, we drove from cheddar to Churchill after seeing the stag and hounds online and decided to go for a celebratory meal. 7.30 pm and the doors were shut? Checked the Facebook page and nothing had been posted. We came on Tuesday the 20th of August Looking through the window there was a man sat down drinking what looked like whiskey, we kept banging on the window and he kept looking at us and ignored us, we tried ringing the phone. This is the best part We refused to leave until we got told why the entire restaurant was closed at 7.25 and not 11pm as online states. Kept ringing and banging so mr whiskey drinker gets up, gives us the middle finger and walks behind the bar and makes himself another drink!!! I had my kids who had to see this!! It's unfortunate for the worker because my husband was recording all of this and got the whole thing on video and will send to head office unless someone reaches out to me with contact details to talk about this more. Again I have full evidence of this.

Worst Sunday roast I've ever eaten. Vegetables was like slush, meat was dry, had 2 roast potatoes and the pigs in blankets were burnt. Why serve food that bad

I am a 36 year old English man. This is the worst pub I have ever visited on a Saturday night.

Don't bother going on the meal and a drink deal days, they don't actually have the food in. Go in on Burger day, no burgers, go in on curry day, no curries! Staff not helpful just adamant they couldn't even give a free drink with a different meal. We didn't stay so they lost business.

What is letting this place down is marston's savings on staff you clearly not able to run a pub with 1 bar person who was also clearing tables and bringing food out 1 chef that was obviously struggling to serve meals in good times felt sorry for staff as brewery running a lovely pub on a shoe string

Stopped by for a drink and some lunch whilst travelling to Bristol airport. Food was very nice pub food. Much nicer than being sat in the hustle of the airport

Don't judge a book by its cover (very disappointing) Visit date: 23-07-2024 Nice building, but shame about the rest. Ladies toilet had no toilet roll, the staff said they were "out of toilet roll but offered us BLUE ROLL from the kitchen". Staff were miserable and unprofessional. Food was very poor quality, clearly freezer food in the microwave. Chicken pie wasn't hot all the way through. We were group of 5 adults & one baby. Since then, we had nothing but stomach issues. I wish I had checked their hygiene rating before entering the premises. I have never come across any pub or hospitality establishment that they ask for payment before they can serve you with food or drink. I do not recommend it to anyone.

I'm so astounded what I witnessed in this day and age.... Came in this evening with my nieces and sister and upon looking for a table I witnessed what I assume is the manager in a yellow shirt putting down another man by shouting and degrading him? He looked so embarrassing and I felt so bad for him. We walked straight out and I told my sister I would like to take this to head office that is DISGUSTING behaviour and I thought this degradation was behind the industry. To anyone thinking of visiting, don't.

Not enough vegetarian food on menus.only two chicken meals.one being a chilli curry. I don't eat red meats for health reasons. Staff very good made me a very nice tomatoes pasta. Its choice that was lacking.

We arrived after the kitchen was closed but Chef Simon noticed us and decided to cook for us nevertheless. Incredible atmosphere and great fish and chips!

The head chef was an absolute delight! He went out of his way to feed a group of foreigners even when the kitchen was already closed. The service was amazing, the people are great and the atmosphere is soo cosy. Great experience, would definitely come again!

Superb venue. Well recommended. Just perfect for a stop for food and drinks after leaving Bristol Airport and travelling South West. Kind and considerate staff.

AVOID!! Been in here on numerous occasions and every single time something is wrong! Not sure the chef has even read the menu as the food always comes out missing something. Just been in here once again thinking ‘give them another chance as they may have improved’ nope 👎 spent £63 on food and ended up leaving to go and get a Chinese for my children and I!! I will not be back. Zero stars but not an option to give zero!!

Terrible the we were given someone else’s starter then half of it was taken away so half our group ate at a different time to the others then the gluten free nachos came out with what looked like cat food on top that was sent back 20 minutes later they come back to ask us if we still wanted the nachos so we said no we go straight to mains now, I ordered gammon that came out raw not cooked in the middle which I noticed after 2 bites, my partner had steak cooked well done that came out rare so we sent both meals back they then came back 30 minutes later after everybody else had eaten. So all in all I had the worst experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant and I will not be returning again also there seems to be nobody over the age of 18 and they just don’t care in there

Was turned away for food. I came here before and all was okay. The overweight chef came out and insulted the bar staff for being bad. No problem I won’t give you money anymore then.

We ordered from the menu via the QR code app, i ordered vegan tacos which was meant to have, Quorn mince, vegan cheese, jalapeno peppers, guacamole, sour cream and salsa. My friend ordered Hunters chicken but with the quinoa, brown rice and bean salad. We ordered a peach tonic and a bottle of diet Pepsi. What arrived was tacos with salsa, guacamole and sour cream and 3 bit of the pepper. My friends dish arrived with iceberg lettuce, toms and peppers and the chicken was as tough as old boots. This did not corelate to the app description and the menu. I told the manager this was not what was ordered , that it was different from the physical menu and the app. He explained that they had had problems and he had spoken to his GM about it. Also our drinks arrived after I had gone to the bar to remind them, the tonic they didn't stock even though it was on the app, we had 2 diet Pepsi in a bottle but weren't offered a glass. Marston's you need to make a decision either use the app and provide the things on it OR use the menu. TRY HARDER otherwise people will go elsewhere Wont be ever going again and will not be recommending you.

Started off really well as we were an hour early for our booked table but this wasn’t a problem to the staff who allowed us to seat at our table. However when we ordered our drinks is when things went downhill. I ordered a bottle of Sauvignon blanc and was told that this had to be bought up from the cellar as they’d run out and they’d bring it over to our table. However a few minutes later I was advised that this bottle was out of stock and I was asked if I’d like another. I therefore ordered a pinot Grigio instead. This was handed to me without any reference to cost however when I asked if there was a difference in price I was informed that it wasn’t much difference so not to worry about it. When I got back to the table I checked the wine menu and this bottle I had been given was actually £3 cheaper! Therefore surely this should have been refunded to me? I intended to ask for it to be deducted from any desserts that we might order (seeing as we’d already ordered our mains). However our food took so long to come out (with all of the children’s meals being last to arrive, including one of theirs starters which actually arrived after all the mains). We also had to ask about our sides as these hadn’t arrived and apparently weren’t in the cheque in the kitchen so there was a further delay with these being received and eventually coming as we’d almost finished our mains. After all of this, once the children had finished their food and drinks we left. The food was mostly nice; I ordered the chicken kebab and fries and unfortunately the chicken was a bit fatty and the flatbread was very dry. My son had the fish and chips and he said that the fish was chewy and he left half of it, which is unheard of! Everyone else said theirs was nice though.

Terrible food kids serving and the manager chef closed kitchen after we had been waiting for an hour and then sat in the bar chatting to friends whilst the bar staff attempted to deal with us and many others that had been waiting to place food orders. We were told this pub used to be excellent and thought we would try it on our bank holiday holiday sadly wish we had never bothered Terrible management

Quick pit stop on way to airport service was great x comfortable areas to sit, menu looked great we will return when staying closer to sample food and atmosphere .

Sad to say, after some years of coming here on the way to the airport, we were very disappointed at the "state" of things. Could not find a clean set of cutlery on any table, it was grim I'm afraid, all sets were grubby, sticky and had remains of food on them. The glasses were in a similar state, lip marks on them, water stains, we had to change them twice to get some that looked clean. Pretty poor show, in a place that has always been good. Staff very nice, food ok. But there must be a dishwasher issue somewhere. This really is a basic standard that is not being met at all. What a shame.

A friend and I meet here a few times a year for a catch up. The staff are friendly and the service is polite. The food is good too.

Arrived at 6.30 pm as booked by Mr Edwards. Then watched people ordering at the bar. To be told by a less than impressive maitre de. To come back in an hour. I live in France maybe this is English professional hospitality. God forbid. We have email proof available. Thank goodness for the Woodborough in Winscombe.

Think lukewarm enthusiasm, questionable cooking skills, and a side of awkward service. Clearly, a team with loads of potential, but in desperate need of a pub mentor (or a flavour transfusion). Let's break it down: The "Money first, drinks later" shuffle: We arrived parched after a three-hour drive, only to be greeted with a preemptive payment request before a single drop was poured. Shy waiting staff & the missing salsa mystery: Our waiter mumbled something barely audible and then vanished. As for my "oozy" mozzarella bites? Bone dry, with a side of fiery BBQ instead of the promised salsa. Oh, and if two microscopic rocket leaves count as a salad... then mission accomplished? The tale of two fish: My "large" hand-battered fish looked suspiciously like my partner's "small." Overcooked, sadly. The chips and spoonful of peas were passable, but nothing extraordinary. Look, we had a good time because we were celebrating family. But let's just say this place won't be on our recommendation list. As a former publican, I see a team with untapped potential. Get these folks trained up, add a dash of life, and maybe inject some actual flavour into the food. Then it might be a contender!

We booked our place and the table was ready. However, after waiting for 15 minutes, in an ever increasing queue we were told that no more orders for food would be accepted. We had invited family from the Midlands to a meal. The staff seemed to be lost!! We will never use Stag and Hounds again after being loyal customers for years.

Came for a anniversary/husbands birthday, I really enjoyed my food, massive amounts of food, staff was super nice and felt very looked after. Will definitely be back very soon and bringing my puppy.

Greeted with a smile and welcome hello, asked if we had a booking, and shown to table. Given a few minutes to look at the menu, then asked if we were ready to order, I enquired about the special offer and what drinks were included. Only waited approx 15min for our food to arrive Which was nicely presented exactly as described and hot.

Family Meal for 5 people, great quality, great value... the service was excellent and so friendly, Luke was such a nice guy..

We were a large group of 15 dinners and were accommodated altogether with plenty of space. We had pre arranged the dinner order. Our meals were brought to us hot when we were ready. Our servers were extremely efficient, courteous and swift in serve us. When asking questions of us they were polite and patient. The meals were good and ample. Altogether the food and service contributed to a very enjoyable evening.

We were met as we entered the building by a lovely Lady who showed us to our reserved table, she checked that the table was suitable due to myself being disabled. The food was brought out promptly and looked delightful, all four of us like that the veg was brought out in dishes so we could help ourselves. We were given plenty of meat and the most amazing Yorkshire pudding. We will definitely be going for Sunday lunch again.

Food was very poor had the mega mixed grill. Couldn’t chew the steak or gammon chips was cold staff kept pushing past us as it was to hard to go the other way around over all waste of money

Came up with my 4 year old, 7 year old and mum, and dad. My mums 75th birthday and had an amazing meal. The staff was kind, friendly, very chatty with the kids they loved the waitress Kayley she was wonderful with them. The lady with the blond hair (think its the new Manageress) was great bought our birthday cake out with all the staff. Loved the atmosphere 5* will be back again. 👌

I randomly chose this pub for my birthday lunch. The service was very friendly and the food was fantastic. Absolutely loved our visit.

Found the Stag by pure luck. Just been taken over by a really lovely lady, who made us very welcome. The Food was superb, wife had lamb shank ( which she struggled to finish)and I had the chicken burger. Everything was pipping hot and cooked perfectly. Service was fast and efficient. I can't recommend this pub highly enough.

soon as we came in we was greeted by a lovely lady blonde hair took us to a table and asked for our drinks she didnt even take 2 minutes making our drink really fast servist, our good was amazing food everyone was so friendly we had my son with us hes 7 and they brought colourings out for him being super nice 100% recommed this place also coming back soon

When I visited the pub on Tuesday evening, it looked old and need of maintenence and the bar staff were obnoxious, disrespectful and unprofessional to staff infront of customers. While I was ordering at the bar the new owner or manager flicked beer at a staff member and called him "slow" but from what I saw it seemed like he was run off his feet going from table to table doing everything while the others watched. I also got the name of the chef who was great as even though my experience was bad the food was cooked well. Such as a shame under the last manager(Nikki) it was great last week, what a big fall off they have had.

The food was 3/10 and the service was much the same. The pub was dirty - windows and ledges had drinks spilt up them from days / weeks prior. The general appearance was run down and out of date.

Went here for Sunday roast today 24/3/2024 rather dissatisfied. The beef was very thin like packet beef. Roast potatoes were rock hard.the mash had a tangy taste to it the gravy was like water and no taste at all..the staff were very friendly though.

Flat drinks dirty glasses and dirty cutlery. Reported this to staff and management were told it was to do with the dishwasher doesn't explain the black marks on the glasses. Also not busy there so could have been dealt with better.

Really happy with my experience here today, wanted food that was no longer on the menu and the staff was so lovely and helpful and done exactly as I asked for, even added additionals on for me so it was exactly how I wanted it. The chef even then made a point of coming out to make sure it was all right and it was perfect! Would 100% come again and recommend to anyone

the restaurant was under-staffed. Only two persons on duty front of house and with several tables with 4 or more guests there were several complaints about waiting time etc. We used a 30% off food voucher to buy two sirloin steak meals. One was completely inedible, the other was fine.. We also ordered two desserts and four glasses of wine. The senior member of staff on duty (female) didn't charge us for the desserts or two glasses of wine. I think many guests were using these vouchers and you would have thought that extra staff should have been around during times when vouchers are going to be used. the two people we saw worked very hard but had to deal with several complaints.

Returned to the pub and it was lovely to be back. Still dog friendly and the food was great. Well done to the chefs!!

I don't often complain but safe to say that is the worst Roast we have had in quite some time. On Mothers Day too! Roast potatoes were more like boiled, yorkshire puddings were still raw on the bottom and hardly any meat ( my husband and daughter had meat, I had spinach tart which was actually okay). Sad to say it has put us off returning.

I used to come here a lot years ago and it was a great place. Sadly, I can't leave a good review now, 9 of us visited for lunch last weekend 03/03/2024. We ordered drinks and food at the bar and took our seats. The jug of water tasted like dettol. All of the glasses were very old and cloudy, and some were dirty. Our starters arrived, nothing to get excited about. Then our mains arrived again, nothing to get excited about. At no point during our visit did any glasses or dirty plates get removed from the table. So during our mains we were running out of table space. One of the steak meals was ordered medium and came out blue it was then sent back and came out cremated so that member of the group went hungry. The staff were milling around the place on phones, etc. Also, some were quite rude. All in all, it was a very disappointing experience. I would strongly recommend avoiding this place until they sort out the issues with staff food and hygiene.

There was next to no staff , but the staff we dealt with were friendly. We were sat amongst tables full of dirty plates, cutlery, glasses and bowls and watched as staff walked pass them empty handed back to the kitchen. At this time it was just our table of 4 and one other table..so not busy . We ordered fizzy drinks and they were flat. Food was lovely so ,Compliments to the chef. But this was an early mother's day lunch and it really didn't feel great being sat around a lot of dirty tables.

It was for a lovely family get together on a cold, wet Saturday afternoon and there was lots of chat and catching up to do, but we never felt hurried by staff. We all enjoyed our food and if there was anything left on the plates it was because we had sizable portions.

Terrible food.Roast dinner. Very thin beef, dried up tough reheated, carrots hard, red cabbage, tasteless, mashed potato ,like slop on the plate, swamped with gravy, (a jug of gravy would be good) stuffing ball like rock. I did not complain as my husband and I had invited friends out to eat and it would have embarrassed them.If I served up food like that at home I would be ashamed, needless to say we will never be visiting again. Certainly not worth what you charge, I have had much better food locally at 2thirds of the cost

Very poor. Waited an hour and 10 mins for food. And it definitely wasnr worth it! Burnt food, boiled chicken, and salty gammon! Will not be back.

We were greeted and treated very well throughout our visit. The kitchen was very busy, and we were kept upto date with our choices, and when we were served, the food was very nice indeed, and excellent value. The lady we spoke with was a friendly person, and we will visit again in the near future. Thank you to all concerned

Would have given 5/5 but on arrival waited over ten mins to be seated as no staff in sight anywhere. Also unable to use the 30%off voucher as ordered online on the app. Would of ordered at bar but queue was at least 8 people waiting due to lack of staff and we were on limited time!

We went for a family Birthday dinner. Maria was our waitress and she looked after us very well, recommending us some dishes and ensuring that we were having everything we needed!

We waited almost 10 minutes at the bar before anyone came to attend to us - we had reserved a table for 7.30. The service after that was reasonable, and the food was good - cooked as ordered and served on hot plates.

Very spacious and clean interior. Tasty food (I so love scampi) and extremely friendly service. Maria is an absolute delight, providing good service as well as making good recommendations. I particularly like the offset children area where they can watch TV without disturbing others. Highly recommended.

Really disappointed. If you have all the time in the world to wait from being seated, to waiting the order to be taken (went to the bar in the end), to drinks arriving & almost an hour for food when it wasn’t busy then worth the visit as the food was lovely but portions are massive. But would recommend taking snacks for the wait. ROAST DINNER AVOID

Ordered the hunters chicken from grill menu.there were no onion rings tomato or rocket as described on the menu when served. Felt cheated.

Had a meal on Sunday lunch time (we didn’t book) everything was okay but unfortunately a lady who took our order had a very robotic/patronising approach, didn’t have a relaxed approach so couldn’t strike a friendly conversation etc. probably won’t be returning but food was good.

Slow service, took 45 mins to receive wrong food that was raw. Sat here with no good watching my boyfriend eat as they said would take too long to make another. Disgusting and very disappointed 😞 don't order the steak baguette! Changed my service stars to three from ine on account that the manager has been really lovely and reached out to make it better which is really appreciated.
