If I could give 10 stars I would, we've had a fabulous weekend here. The rooms are really "high end", amazingly comfortable bed, the hot top is just fabulous, a low light comes on automatically when you go to the bathroom in the night, Nespresso coffee machine, easy to use very effective air conditioning, I could go on. Husband commented that in London the room would be 4 times the price. But the thing is the staff are lovely and friendly, not at all pretentious which makes for a very relaxing stay. Food in the pub next door was delicious, we were spoilt for choice. We couldn't fault our stay at all, it was perfect. Thanks to all concerned.

Went here for our wedding anniversary and I have to say it was the best decision we could have made. The room was so beautiful the Japanese tub was so relaxing under the stars and the food was amazing. The staff were so polite and couldn't be more helpful. Amazing stay

It’s the second time we’ve stayed here, most recent in January and stayed in the superior suite. Just amazing, the spa was fantastic and we will definitely be staying again! The food in the bowling green inn was just as amazing (we ate here on our first stay too) staff are lovely and so helpful. All round fantastic value from the hotel to the food. The reason I gave the location a 4 star is purely because it’s next to a busy road, for me it doesn’t matter but to others it might.

1 night stay, wish we had booked for longer. From the moment we walked into the Bowling Green to collect our key to the moment we handed it back we felt valued and welcome by all the staff who can not do enough for you, thank you all so much, it made our break mini break extra special. Amazing room, hot tub and facilities second to none. We had dinner in the pub, food was some of the best we have had anywhere. It’s a shame you can only give a maximum of 5 stars, it’s a 5 Plus stay.

Stables in Ashbourne is absolutely brilliant. Cannot fault it at all. The parking is great, the room was beautiful and the staff in the Bowling Green pub were absolutely lovely. Highly recommended. We will definitely be returning.

The Stables located at the gateway to the Peaks, just a ten-minute drive to the Dovedale Stepping Stones. It's also a short walk to Ashbourne's town centre, making its location ideal. The private Japanese hot tubs, nestled among lush green plants and offering serene views of the surrounding trees, were the highlight of our stay. Every detail has been considered in the planning of The Stables, and the amenities and facilities were top-notch. We were perfectly comfortable and had everything (and more) that we needed for a weekend away. On our first night, we stayed in the Junior Suite (Room 2), which features a private Japanese hot tub on the terrace. I struggle with insomnia, but the high-quality emperor beds with luxury Egyptian cotton practically cured me within minutes. The second night brought us to the Superior Suite (Room 3). This room is huge, with a beautiful window doubling as a lush reading nook, a roll-top bath, and access to the basement spa with a hot tub and sauna. Both rooms are equally gorgeous and have their bonuses, making it hard to choose a favourite, although the private hot tub might sway me toward one of those rooms! Both rooms also feature rainfall showers, heated towel rails, a Nespresso coffee machine, complimentary drinks, plush robes & slippers, Bluetooth speakers, a GHD hairdryer (huge bonus), and plenty of space for luggage. Adding to everything, there's a pub right next door where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They're known for their steaks and their wood-fired pizzas, and both were delicious and very well priced too. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. It was probably the nicest staycation we’ve had in the UK, and we're already planning a winter return!

What a fantastic boutique hotel! We recently stayed in room 2, which is a junior suite. Beautifully decorated room, with seemingly every little detail though of. Fresh milk in the fridge was a definite win, and the most delicious fresh shortbread to go along side my hot drink. Lovely toiletries and fluffy towels and robes. The Japanese soaking tub on the balcony was a fantastic way to relax, and there were even smash-proof champagne flutes in the room to go with the chilled bottle of bubbles we brought with us. The food from the pub adjacent, which we had via room service, was hot and fresh and really delicious. The bed was also super comfy. I'd definitely stay here again when in the area.

Very friendly, brilliantly run freehouse pub. Popular with locals and very welcoming to those who aren't. Excellent traditional pub food. We had one of their renowned pies (beef & ale) which was delicious and fish (enormous) & proper homemade chips. Homemade puds. Would definitely recommend and worth a visit (or two!) if you're staying in the area and not sure where to go to eat and/or drink.

Exceptional, the food , the presentation, the service is world class. The culinary experience is of the highest standards. Hidden away in the small town of Bakewell. Michelin guide experience at its best. Absolutely faultless. 7 course taster menu with wine 😮‍💨 Best of the best….. if it’s good enough for Tom Cruise, it’s good enough for me

We were in Matlock as part of our vacation and chanced upon D'alessandro's Pizza on an evening where not many restaurants were open. The pizza is more Neapolitan style; thin crust and a less heavy sauce than offered by the chain pizza places. Well prepared, flavourful. Staff were very conversational (as were the regular customers that were eating in on that evening). And they even gave us directions to a shortcut back to our hotel. It was a long walk up the steep hill from Bakewell Road, but it was worth it.
