Just fantastic!! Fantastic food. Fantastic service. Fantastic wine. Fantastic atmosphere. As always. Just delicious 🍕

The food was absolutely fantastic. We had a long waiting time for food and drinks. Whenever we asked for something they kept on forgetting and most of the staff were stood around. We asked for them to please clear our table and they just took 1 glass, not the 3 empty cans so I had to ask again, asked for the bill and then waited around 15 mins before we got up and walked towards the door and asked another member of staff who was on her phone, then had to wait another 5 minutes stood in the doorway before another person came along with the card machine. Staff seems to be an issue, reading through the comments. Maybe time to invest in some training ( they all seemed very young) or simply employ a better quality team as the service will drive customers and sales away. Would like to mention that it was very lovely of the pizza man who thanked us and said Have a nice night - made a massive difference to know that our custom was valued by him at least.

Authentic Neapolitan pizza and this guys are 5 years running the best pizzeria in UK and now i know why! Went for a mid-week dinner with my italian family, for start the staff is very friendly and welcoming and the food..... OMG! We decided to get pizzas (off course) and they were amazing, the dough was very light and cooked to perfection with a perfect taste that only a wood fired oven can offer, very thin in the middle and crust light and puffy just as i had it in Napoli! The taste and quality of the ingredients as well were incredibly superb and fresh, from the parma ham and the burrata on the antipasti board to the toppings on our pizzas and the tomato sauce has no rivals! Also to finish the meal a sweet treat with tiramisù and sicilian cannoli, we had to try them both and we polished every single plate in our table! Everything is made fresh and we felt like being back home in italy in every way possible. I'm sad i didn't get to try the antipasti side of the menu but we will definitely come back!! I highly recommend this place and well done to all the staff, keep it up guys!

Not a great experience pizza topping was more like a soup than cheese, swimming with oil. The actual base was soggy. When I complained I was told that’s the way an authentic pizza is. Absolutely not. Staff rude and disinterested. Overpriced and won’t be going back. Avoid

Food was amazing and hot! The staff were very welcoming, they kindly interacted with my toddler and gave him felt pizza to play with while we waited. Due to the lack of a child menu, we ordered two pizzas (two adults) with the hopes he would eat from at least one, but he did not. :( My suggestion to Stable Hearth - I recommend having some simple child friendly options - small pizza, salad bowl, crisps even.

Food is absolutely delicious. Fabulous freshly made pizza and chips. Catered for vegan with a lovely pizza. Highly recommend the chips. Great service - will definitely be back.

An absolute gem of a place. I can guarantee you won’t find pizza this good anywhere else for 150 miles. Not just that, the whole team are amazing. Even if the food was a 5/10 (which it wasn’t, full on 12/10) these guys made it amazing. Food was banging, I’m a pain and ask questions, change toppings etc etc & nothing was too much. The chef came out and told me which kind of mushrooms would be on my pizza and the owner (really sorry I forgot your name) tried to find me a nice Italian red based on what I told him I liked. The only issue I have is that I forgot to leave a tip! I have been kicking myself all day about it. Oh and the Tiramisu, the Tiramisu. Flipping outstanding. Until I found what I’m now calling “the stable” I thought that there was no hope for Darlo. I’m going to have to come back again now. Full on in love with the passion you guys have. Thank you!

Only had a takeaway but was really impressed with quality of the food. Everything was excellent and really looking forward to returning to the restaurant. Great spot

First time trying Stable Hearth, food was faultless. Will be back! Spoilt for choice in terms of the amount of available pizzas.

Popped in on the off chance there would be a table and thankfully there was. Greeted pleasantly and staff were great throughout. We hadn’t been here before but had heard good word of mouth reviews and can confirm that we thought the food was great. Clearly good quality ingredients, a nice environment, great selection of drinks and attentive staff. We didn’t wait long for food, but it was mid-week so not as busy as I guess a weekend is. Card machine offers a range of tip options so it must have either been updated since the last reviewer posted or they didn’t look properly? Also what nonsense bringing up Britishness as an excuse not to raise a concern, I certainly wouldn’t have a problem politely raising a point! Keep doing what you’re doing, it’s a great place to visit.

I have to say the pizzas and garlic bread were really good. Good range of options available. The decor and atmosphere were pleasant, though the tables were too close to each other. Impressive wood oven. Service was uneven and some of the younger staff definitely needed more training- checking drinks in particular was an issue and hard to get their notice when you needed a new one. I always leave a tip but was shocked when the card machine offered 15% as a minimum. That was bang out of order and as it’s too embarrassing as a Brit to make a fuss at the time in front of your companions I just paid it. Get that sorted to offer 10% or 12% as options. I’ll leave higher if service is brilliant.

I have never eaten in the restaurant but, along with family members, have had takeaway pizzas three times over the last couple of years. They have divided opinion. A couple of family members rate them highly. I’m afraid every time I’ve found them sloppy and unpleasant and not worth their price. Having eaten pizza many many times, travelling through Italy they, in no way strike me as authentic or in any way comparable to the real thing.

Still my favourite pizza restaurant in Darlington. We were a table of 5. Service was excellent. Pizzas came our pretty quick. I opted for the cheese monger this time. Absolutely delicious 😋

Very disappointed with stable hearth last night. We were sat for over half an hour and nobody asked if we wanted to order so we asked. They then highly advised for us to have a starter as the wait for mains was going to be very long. We didn’t want starters so never agreed to this. When ordering drinks they ran out of lager. The food came after being there for 1 hr 15 mins after us telling them we were going to leave soon if it didn’t arrive . When paying we were never asked how our meal was or even thanked for coming. We understand that a Saturday night can be very busy but they repeatedly told us it was becuase they had a big table upstairs. Don’t book extra tables if it’s going to impact your service. Very disappointed as we used to love coming here, won’t be returning anytime soon

Having read a few reviews I can see that we're not the only visitors to experience slow service. The food at stable hearth is excellent but sadly it is let down by the extremely slow service. We had to repeatedly ask for water, more drinks, the bill etc and when the bill did arrive it was completely wrong by about £40. I think if we lived closer we'd probably just get pizzas to take away next time because the food really is great. Just a frustrating experience when it takes nearly 90 minutes to receive a main course.

This was a very memorable evening which started off quite normally. Staying in Darlington overnight I needed somewhere to eat: having had an early start and a full day I was tired and really just wanted food and drink. Yes, the staff took a while to take my order and more time before it came, but it was a Saturday night and the place was full and busy; that's expected. The pizza was excellent ['Nanny's Fancy'] and the wine a delight [Primitivo]. Then my table was accidentally knocked by a passing customer, some wine spilt onto the pizza. Despite my strong protests that it wasn't badly affected, and I'd already eaten about a quarter, the staff insisted that they get me a fresh one (which arrived very promptly) and spent time cleaning up the table thoroughly. They could not have been more attentive and helpful, despite being busy on a Saturday night. I also got talking - at some length - to the couple on the next table: that doesn't just happen, it says something about the ambience of the restaurant. In summary: what could have been just an ordinary dinner at the end of a long day turned to be something rather special so full marks to the staff! Thank you.

We had a wonderful evening at Stable Hearth. The restaurant and the staff were welcoming and the food was delicious. It was well presented and the portions generous. The waiting staff were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Parking is easy after 6pm

Went pre- theatre on Thursday. We had wonderful pizzas and cracking wine . The staff were all lovely and the Italian guy was really friendly and helpful and explaining to me the Neapolitan veg I had on my pizza which looked like spinach but tasted like aniseedy broccoli- delicious- and that the pizza I had was the most popular in Naples- I can see why 👍🍷

Slow service and then found a long hair right in the centre of my arancini ball. We did receive an apology from the chef and a “it can happen but it’s very rare”… I understand that but it’s unpleasant and put me off my food. We sent it back to the kitchen and they took it off the bill. That being said, the pizza was lovely “nanny’s fancy” so a real shame about the starter. Although the service was slow, all the waiting staff were really polite and friendly. Oh and please get some flutes - drinking Prosecco out of a wine glass just isn’t the same (sorry!).

Been meaning to write this since Valentines night! Absolutely love this restaurant, we always have an amazing time here. Service is great, atmosphere is excellent and the staff are really friendly and welcoming. The authenticity of this restaurant is great if you like the real deal in Neapolitan style pizza then this restaurant is a must for everyone. The authentic Italian ingredients used are all so flavourful and delicious, unlike most other pizzeria restaurants. Certainly shows why this restaurant has been voted the best Italian restaurant for 4 years and the wine list is amazing. A must try restaurant for everyone. A truly authentic experience and We love it here. X

Slow poor service, disappointing evening , table wasn’t ready when we arrived, slow service, ordered starters, olives didn’t arrive, had to ask for our olives when waiting for starter. After starters were finished, empty plates left on table for quarter of an hour, pizza didn’t arrive so asked for it as take away. Eventually pizza arrived 90 minutes after we arrived in restaurant. No apology from manger who was there. Disappointed as has been slowish before, but this was beyond ridiculous. Restaurant was pretty empty. Won’t be rushing back.

Sat for one and a half hours tonight before we were served our pizza. Takeaways were obviously prioritised over those who had reservations and were already seated at tables. We have enjoyed meals at Stable Hearth for many years and have even bought vouchers for friends, but after this disappointing experience we will be thinking twice before we come back or recommend this place to others.

Soggy Pizza base, cheese was hardly done and fairly bland. Fobbed off by being told that’s the authentic Italian. Rubbish. There’s a couple of other Italian restaurants in Darlington that don’t trade on being pizza experts which are better than this place. I wont be returning.

Extremely disappointing experience. Our first visit to this award winning restaurant. Our table wasn’t ready. We waited 20 minutes to be seated. Service was extremely slow. It took nearly an hour for our starters to arrive. They were very nice when we did get them. Another long wait for our main course. Even drinks took a long time to arrive. Not sure what the problem was. Won’t be rushing back.

I have visited here twice now with friends. Each time, we were welcomed by attentive and friendly staff. The menu has so much choice, it was difficult to decide what to go for. I have tried the three little pigs and the pesto and goats cheese pizza. Both were absolutely delicious. You can tell they use fresh ingredients. It's almost like being back in Italy. The restaurant itself is warm and cosy. A lovely little gem in Darlington. Highly recommended!

Took the family in on a Thursday evening for a meal, booked 6pm, had 2 messages asking if we were definitely coming at 6pm which we confirmed and then we arrived at 6pm and our order was taken within 15 mins of arrival. The food arrived over 1 hour later which l believe is too long. Cannot fault the food or the pleasantness of the staff and the rating reflects the long time we had to wait for the food…..and as it turns out the bill!

Fantastically priced pizzeria and enoteca ! First visit to Darlington and found the best pizzeria in the entire UK! Also incredibly friendly and welcoming and very helpful with dietary requirements ! They even sold and served our favourite Italian white wine - Vernaccia di San Gimignano!! Wonderful Sicilian orange cake and homemade gelato too! I’ve been wanting to try this place for ages, I love pizza. Made a reservation for 9pm, our table was waiting and a lovely vibe. Only after 30 mins our drinks arrived, after another 15 mins our starter. We shared an aubergine dish that was too bitter for me, but husband ate it, really needed to be served with some bread as very saucy. After 75 mins we noticed no one had food. I’m not sure if it’s always slow or if it was a bad night. When the pizza finally arrived it was very nice crust. There was a decent wine menu, house larger is £5.50. Our meal for two with one starter, a beer each, an average wine and two pizza was over £70. Service was friendly, food was fine but a combination of price, ok (not amazing) dishes and timing means we’re unlikely to return.

Sometimes nothing hits the spot like a really good neopooitan pizza and this restaurant does exactly that. No gimics,no fuss just excellent well prepared and excited food in a relaxing environment.

Down to Darlington on business I hunted for tasty food options and settled on a pizza to go. The service and helpfulness of staff was second to none. As you'd expect from a Neapolitan pizza place, I didn't have long to wait for superb and tasty pizza - was there less than 5 mins, or so it felt!I have had my own wood-fire pizza oven for 15 years and I know how hard it can be to deliver consistent quality pizzas. I can say their pizza was truly excellent and very authentic in the Naples style (the Vera sign says it all). Light and fluffy edges (cornicione) and a perfect balance of sauce and toppings. Would recommend the Diavola. Best to eat it hot, so be prepared with a handful of serviettes (gladly supplied by Stable Heart).Carry on with the great pizzas Stable Earth - what a fantastic asset for Darlington!

Visited Stable Hearth with my wife last Friday night. We were a walk in booking, with a mask, so was delighted we were shown straight to a table for two downstairs. Couple of Stable Hearth Pills first Ordered Garlic bread, two pizzas - Vegtable and a Peperoni. Pure Artisan & Authentic Neapolitan presentation and taste all washed down with a great bottle of Appassimento. The Maitre d and the serving staff were all great and couldn’t do enough for you 10/10 all the way

Been to this restaurant several times and always enjoyed it. Not so much this time. We were shown to a table upstairs (despite me walking with a stick and the stairs are not the easiest to navigate). When asking if there was a table downstairs I was curtly asked if I'd specified a table downstairs, to which I responded that despite being there in the past, I didn't know there was an upstairs). Shown to a table in a deserted upstairs and it was absolutely freezing. Asked the waiting staff (Rachel and Anna who are a credit to the business) and the heating was then switched on. Didn't warm up for the whole time we were there. Bright white lighting, no ambience or warmth whatsoever to the place. I did ask if we could just order the pizzas, have them boxed to take away but apparently this couldn't be done. Not sure why as the pizzas have to be cooked anyway? So it was sit in the cold or leave with nothing. Other diners did come upstairs (first couple said no and were shown to a table downstairs). One lady had her coat on and luckily I had a scarf to wrap round. So disappointing as the food if nice but not likely to return any time in a hurry. As said, the waiting staff were so lovely but it appears the people in charge are not so much......moral is ask for downstairs table.....

Underwhelmed by starters and mains. Starters served at the table and then wait a couple of minute for cutlery. Trying to order a simple beer turned into a debacle. Ordered 1st IPA which was nice. Ordered another before mains to be told there’s none left. Tried to order an alternative to be told 5 mins later they had none of that either. Ok I’ll do without and have water. Then half way through my pizza a bottle of IPA materialised but was told it was warm. I was without beverage, so indulged. Daughter admonished for not having mask when trying to sort the drinks issue out at the bar. However, a table of 6 seated next to us four of them allowed entrance without masks. Poor Covid Risk Management & No consistency - three different waitresses served our table but obviously didn’t know the previous requests. Pizza limp and soggy. Highlight of the night I presume the manager falling up the stairs flat on his face but with the two pizzas not being dropped. More Tom Daley meets Fawlty Towers. £100.00 for 4 for pizza you’d expect better. Charged for the warm wer that took 15 minutes Wanted to leave the waitress a tip who didn’t know the difference between lager and beer because she was 17. Rare in this day and age. Was told it went in a shared tips box so declined. The drive home past Dominos had us all thinking the same thing. Poor at best....

Fourth visit back to Stable Hearth. Amazing again. I'm not a huge fan of pizza normally but this place is great. Really interesting menu and the staff are very friendly too. We come up to the North East for Great North Run and to drop daughter at Uni and always ensure we book into Stable Hearth. Well recommended!!

I’m going to start this review of saying I have always been a Margarita girl when it comes to pizzas and this place has changed me for the better. I will definitely recommend you go for the Hey Pesto!Pizzas are fresh, decent size and delicious . Good prompt service and done amazing ranges of pizza. Worth that extra bit of money as you can tell they use the best ingredients!

We have eaten at stable hearth a lot so this is a delayed review. The service is always fantastic and the pizzas are amazing. I’m always impressed with how attentive the staff are considering it’s busy. The wine menu is lovely and I have never had a meal that wasn’t amazing. I love the atmosphere which can be family friendly earlier on but also perfect for a large wine and date later on

A late decision for an Pizza for a birthday meal was a good one with a visit to Stable Hearth. A surprisingly unpretentious and relaxed atmosphere added to the experience. The pizzas were the best eaten for a long time. Not a cheap as Monday-Wednesday but still excellent value. A venue to be enjoyed

Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, and the restaurant has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and is decorated beautifully. Service was generally really good and quick. My only tiny point would be that one of the waiters didn’t know which pizzas we ordered (didn’t know the menu) which made it slightly confusing. However it didn’t take away from the great evening we had and we will definitely be going back and recommending

Picked up some starters and pizzas for my sons birthday. Usual excellent standard. Tried the calamari for the 1st time and it was cooked to perfection! The margarita DOP pizzas were the popular choice. I had the Branston, which had spicey salami and chilli on it as it was pretty good. If you like it on the spicey side this is the pizza for you. Tried the mandarino and limonata soft drinks and would highly recommend them alongside the chinotto is well worth a try if you like a bitter sweet soft drink. Looking forward to when the restaurant re-opens again to eat in and enjoy the evening there!

Just had lockdown take away pizzas , absolutely fantastic , definitely will recommend to others ! Best pizzas around :)

I contacted the pizzeria yesterday lunch to order for around early evening, I was advised what slots were available for collection and unfortunately they were either too early or too late for my preference. It was apparant that I had mis judged how much notice I needed to give as they were obviously very busy. I then said I would leave it this week and book for next week, upon the lady taking my order she realised that I was ordering pasta's and explained that she would be able to squeeze me in due to my order not being for volume pizza. I left the call extremely happy that I had my delivery booked in.My son collected the pizza, the pick up service was organised and efficient and our food was amazing. I have visited the restaurant before but never tried the take out menu. I just wanted to say a huge thank you for excellent customer service upon taking my order and deliverying such high quality delicous food in this difficult time. I would like to say my take out from Stable Hearth is my best takeout so far in lock down and beleive me I have had a few (too many) . Thank you team Stable Hearth for servicing your customers so well !

As a bit of a lockdown treat, for our first venture into the ballooning options for collection and or delivery, it was an educated choice to contact the stable hearth team. The recent online reviews on various social media platforms plus previous visits gave us a great deal of confidence in our choice. The initial contact, correspondence, collection was well thought out. The anti pasta starters,four pizzas + sides were as glorious as always, we did our best to match the ambience at home, not quite the same, just different.We all look forward to getting back to some sort of normality and get back to the full experience. Fair play to Nick and the team having to step up and change the business model and still maintain the highest of standards!

Rang on Saturday afternoon late notice for a table, I was assured a table within 15 minutes. Upon arriving we were looked after with perfect timings between a menu being offered, to drinks to food.Pizza's were superb, lovely atmosphere, great staff and overall a lovely place to spend a Saturday afternoon catching up with family.Thankyou team Stable Hearth, we will be back !

This place has won awards for their pizza and rightly so. First of all the staff are friendly, attentive and very helpful. We had the mixed platter to start which was nice. The pizzas are so good, cooked to perfection with tasty toppings. I had the nduja on mine and it had a great kick to it without being overpowering. Honestly as good as any pizza I've had outside of Italy. We also had sticky toffee pudding for desert so don't overload too much!
