This restaurant is a class act. I had the Turbot dish which was beautifully put together and just about perfectly cooked. The full team should be very proud of themselves.

My food was great and staff were friendly. However, I definitely would not recommend visiting if you have allergies. My wife was a bit disappointed at what she could have. If you are in the majority and have no allergies, everything was fantastic.

Just had an amazing lunch at sq 1 my son was on leave from his first few weeks of joining the British Army … friendly service as always and the lunch was so tasty we all tried something new and where blown away thank you everyone… thoroughly recommended…

Fantastic restaurant. We visited for the first time a few weeks ago with our 3 year old and a chihuahua! The staff couldn’t be more helpful and accommodating. The food was exceptional but the wine list could have done with offering champagne per glass not just English sparkling which wasn’t the best. Over all great experience. Will definitely be back soon.

Food excellent. Staff very good but there is a need to employ more staff on a busy day. I still think prices are a bit on the high side.

Well cooked food, but feel overcharged after seeing the bill! Far too expensive for what was presented. Pub level grub nothing more.

Having seen good reviews of friends, we booked here midweek for my 40th birthday lunch. As a big birthday it was important it was special and we were not disappointed, outstanding food, great service and great value!

The staff were great, the place was spotless, and the food & presentation were absolutely top notch and well worth the price. Will definitely go back without a doubt.

Fantastic meal......derive was exceptional

24 of us went along for our Christmas work do and the food and service were outstanding. Kat kept us up to date with everything and was extremely helpful in helping us to organise our long awaited Christmas get together. Everybody (including vegan) were catered for. Cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you Kat and the rest of the crew for a fantastic evening

Sunday lunch menu - food was acceptable, service was decent and quick but quality of the meals was not as good as it used to be and felt expensive for the standard. Did not enjoy the cheesecake which was rather more scrambled-egg than I like

Unbelievably good, food was exceptional the service was flawless, the restaurant is decorated in a clean contemporary way and the overall experience is one that has to be experienced. Good value for the lumch time menu with good choice the other menus were pricey but based on my experience today well worth the cost!

We eat here regularly. A small menu of perfectly cooked food. This restaurant has not suffered from losing its Master Chef winner in the slightest. If anything… it’s improving all the time. There’s a ten course tasting menu but don’t feel obliged to choose it. There’s also a small but good wine list. It’s carefully pulled together to suit most tastes and wallets.

We had this experience bought for us as a Christmas present - absolutely amazing food but also the front of house staff brilliant too. We had the tasting menus and this restaurant catered for me as a Gluten Free absolutely fantastically - will definitely visit again

My friends and I had the 8 course tasting menu with wine pairing. The whole experience was amazing. The food was fabulous and we loved the wine choices. Kat, our host, was fabulous; very knowledgable. Thank you to the chef, Kat and all of the Square One Team for a lovely lunch.

Dinner for two, Our first visit and certainly will not be our last, cannot fault the food absolutely superb, such amazing flavours, my hake was a delight my husband had rib eye steak also delicious, the staff were lovely , the restaurant was very pleasant, a big thank you to everyone for making our evening very memorable 😊

Visited on a Monday evening. Dunmow High Street was a ghost town after a torrential rain storm and the day after the night before of england's Euro's defeat. Probably many nursing hangovers.. It was refreshing and a positive sign to see the restaurant open and with a good amount of diners for a Monday in these circumstances. Almost a beacon in the town centre on such a night. Warm and engaging welcome and a nice initial impression of the room. ALC Menu is short, succinct, imaginative and well priced. Fresh warm bread, but accompanied with a marmite butter & cheese profiteroles was a nice touch. We had starters and mains - a classic burata with basil pesto and heritage tomatoes - a simple classic combination executed with excellent v.fresh ingredients. Duck breast and confit leg - oriental influence, gentle spice flavours and Ribeye beef w/ mushrooms for mains. Both generous size , expertly cooked, rich, flavourful and delicious. Opted just for sorbet for desert- needed a bit of a palate cleanser! Coffee was ok, but an Italian might have asked for a replacement, no crema! espresso macchiato. Wine list seemed a little weak on bottle selection and choice with only the usual suspects. Could do a bit better on this to match the standards of the food. Needs refreshing and perhaps a little more imagination These are just observations of where i'd fell improvements could be made to an already v. good restaurant, and overall though, a lovely place. Which anyone reading this, should indeed not give a second thought to supporting, to enjoy great food in an area not known for a huge amount of this quality of choice. Especially after the turmoil of the last 18 months . Will go back, next time for the tasting menu!

Food was nice but very expensive for lunchtime and wasn't expecting that as when I booked they were showing a set lunch menu..... Service was very good and overall was a lovely time but extremely expensive as I said for lunch

This is a true hidden gem...food is superb and reasonably priced,, staff are excellent, ,decor is lovely, , would highly recommend this place you will not be disappointed,,,,really great menu and phenomenal tasting dishes........will be going back for sure,,,,,sunday roast as well delicious....only in dunmow for the weeken and this place would be reason enough to re visit. DID RE VISIT THIS WEEKEND 5TH JUNE 2021 ANOTHER SUPER MEAL

Lovely restaurant. Staff were friendly. Steak was good. My chicken was average nothing to rave about. Wasn’t impressed with panna cotta didn’t have much flavour at all.

A fantastic restaurant which always delivers delicious and beautiful food. The front of house team are fantastic, great wine list and the food is outstanding. We recently enjoyed dishes inspired by Head Chef Alex Webb's time on MasterChef and every dish on the 5 course tasting menu was well thought through, exciting and delicious. Highly recommend.

Lovely food. Had 2 courses + 2 glasses of wine cost £105 for 2 people . Thought it was very expensive only Wednesday! Having said that everything was first class. We both had rib eye steak but paid extra for chips so £31 each. Puddings £8 each

Good fun and attentive staff, the food was really good but didn't blow my mind and the bill was £240 for 4 of us which I felt was a lot more than what it should have been based on the food and drink we recieved. We did have a really good night though it's just a shame it was so expensive as it's put us all off going back.

Just had a great Saturday night take away from S1 with 4 delicious burgers, fries, slaw and milk shakes. Staff helpful and pleasant. Great lockdown service S1 - keep it up. Can thoroughly recommend

A tasty roast with proper gravy. Had duck breast which still had that blush of pink through it. Cauliflower cheese that tasted of cauliflower and cheese not mush that you get at other places. Lush puddings too so save room. Thank you

Really good food and staff are very welcoming and accommodating. Had a Tomato and garlic soup, Gammon and Brownie dessert. Recommend all of my choices. Nice atmosphere and surprisingly big inside. Highly recommend.

Very disappointed that the ‘sample Sunday menu’ online is completely different to when you sit down in the restaurant. I would understand that dishes will change but the prices when you are sat are much higher. Staff were rude when quizzed on this and showed little interest in keeping us at our table. This coupled with the fact we were shoved in a corner when there were clearly other 6 seat tables available resulted in us walking out. Overall experience was not a patch on The Star Restaurant (around the corner) who were very grateful for our business and don’t false advertise.

Thid was my 2nd time to Square 1 and as expected the food was amazing. Chicken Liver followed by one of the tastiest steaks I've had. Well priced for great quality food. Friendly service too.

Had a nice walk into our local town and ate at Square 1 Restaurant. I have to say it was absolutely fine dining and fair value. Excellent food and superb service. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 Would recommend to all.
