Ashfields Country Kitchen in Uttlesford

A great place to stop for a casual coffee or full on lunch. Used by our cycling club as a coffee stop both in summer and winter.

Came here for a family lunch, the staff were very nice and respectful as we had one family member running late. Their patience was brilliant and they made sure we were well hydrated. The food came in good time after ordering and was delicious and as I’m not a chip person I have to say the chips were exceptional! Will definitely be making a return visit.

Came to attend the pony event and we stayed after to enjoy a meal. The quality and presentation of my brie and cranberry sandwiches, with side salad and chips was first class. Not only that, but the bread used was wonderful and the chips were the best I've had anywhere and I'm not an avid eater of those but in this case, I'd have two pots not one! Very generous servings too. Service from the young lasses was excellent. Great view of the arena . Definitely further visits are in order.

It was a big event and the staff was working very hard and kept the waiting time down and delivered with a smile. Great food and great service.

Made a reservation over the phone for table of 5. Arrived and stood at the door for 10 minutes ignored by at least 3 staff walking past. Eventually the lady behind the bar had to give one of the team a nudge to seat us! Ultra slow service even for drinks to arrive! Had to chase where the food was which finally arrived after 1hr! Food ok but sadly overshadowed by the abysmal customer service.

Great place to stop on a cycle ride. Great food plenty of outdoor space and bikes were safe 👍🚴

I love asfields a lovely place to go for breakfast or lunch. You can sit inside or out (that's if the weather is nice) The staff are very friendly and cheerful. The food is nice , and it is reasonably priced. Parking is good access for people with disabilties. And the view is lovely.

So sad to see this place now 😭 did love this place but now .......,. Can't say enjoyable anymore service ,well where do I start I'm still waiting for refund on over charging yes you gold glasses lady !!!!

Visited Ashfields Country Kitchen on a Saturday at 1pm and there were only 2 inside tables free, they recommend booking to ensure a table. There are lots of seating outside pending nice weather. There is a full menu, see pictures. The staff were very friendly and professional, chatty but all our food and drinks arrived in a timely manner. It is on the site of the Polo Club so we saw horse and carriages just passing by. Will visit again and would recommend.

Very homely and good quality food

Great place, good food, prices reasonable. We visited with 12 people in our party for niece's 18th breakfast and the staff were fantastic, polite and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. With a big order all food was served altogether at the same time 👍 Special shout out to "Annie" ...wonderful service, a credit to Ashfields .

Lovely spot for lunch, beautiful interior and delicious food and coffee. Friendly tip to the staff from a long-term waitress, better to say you're shutting and are welcome to have a takeaway coffee than to serve it, tell Alexa to turn the music off, sweep round the restaurant and count coins. Other than that, a perfect visit.

Excellent choice and quality of food. Can get extremely busy so worth making a booking. Lovely venue and outlook with outdoor sitting for summer. Can get noisy and stuffy in winter. Check there are no events happening in grounds on carriage centre website as it can be quite busy on those weekends with on site attendees in situ. Friendly helpful staff

Always lovely - the people and the food. A great location on a warm day and if you’re lucky you’ll get to see some horses and carriages or even a dog show!

One of those hidden gems. Lovely, peaceful surroundings. Had breakfast and lunch, both very filling and tasty., Didn't have to wait long, food was served hot and with a smile from the very friendly and efficient staff. If you just want to pop in for tea/coffee and cake you wont be disappointed, all the cakes are home made by local people and if you like savoury then the sausage rolls are huge and 😋 Will definitely be returning 🌟🌟

Great place, great food and great views

Found them very inhospitable today. Both Google and their website (Facebook) say they shut at 15:00 which we checked before travelling out there, but that isn’t the case. We arrived in the restaurant at 14:33 for lunch, at which point a member of staff shouted over that they had stopped serving food at 14:30. We mentioned we’re just a few minutes after and sandwiches would be fine, but we’re told everything’s turned off in the kitchen apparently (although as the kitchen door is open, we can see food is still being prepared for the customers already in the restaurant). Of course restaurants have to shut at a time, but if you close to customers at 14:30 , please be clear online about that’s the time you close, don’t say it’s 15:00. The great thing about this is, we went to the Black Lion in High Roding instead, hadn’t eaten there before, they a bigger menu and it’s great food served all day and the service was great too, we’ll go there next time too.

Good points: staff and location. Less good points: The food. It was the epitome of mediocre. You know that feeling when you're playing it safe with food? Well, they took that concept and ran with it. Edible, yes. Bland, also yes. It's like the seasoning heard there was a party and decided to skip it. The coffee was not the saving grace I'd hoped for (who puts brown sugar as a topping on a cappuccino). Not bad enough for me to send back, but very much middling. Shame really, it's a lovely location. This alone will probably draw us back in; however, we will be sticking to cakes or something simple.

Friendly staff and the food is very well prepared. Lots of parking space and if the sun's out, there is outside seating area to enjoy your meal and soak up the sunshine.

Great choice for veggie cooked breakfast and smoked salmon and eggs. Brunch was on the extensive veranda in glorious sunshine. Very relaxing and great choice of cakes that we took home.

Oh dear, what a change from last year. Not that busy, but the queue barely moved for 15 mins......really slow service...and to be finally told at 11.15 after 20 mins queuing that breakfast service has ended, when the website says 11.30 is unforgivable. Had to settle for slice of cake. Won't be using them as a cycle club Elevenses stop anymore.

Our favourite place for breakfast/ lunch/ coffee! The food is consistently excellent with wonderful staff who are always friendly, happy and accommodating. Taken so many friends here who are always so impressed with the food as well as the beautiful location. Highly recommend!

100% AVOID! Horrendous customer service directly from management. Turned away twice in as many weeks as too busy…. 4 tables reserved for a time 3 hours away! Wouldn’t allow us to sit just for coffee (which I’ve heard is equally as bad as the management). More mature woman who obvs runs it (couldn’t run a bath) is seriously rude, maybe thinks she’s special| Make your own coffee at home ladies and gents!! ;)

Fantastic food. Everything you order is great. Salads, burgers, jackets. Whatever you order is best quality. Even the tap water i asked for came in a nice glass with ice and lemon.

Good afternoon Besides, my lunch which I ordered was stale. I ordered a chicken salad and got what I didn't order. I was served a salad without chicken along with onion toast and fries fried in old oil. The rest of the meals were served correctly. I was served by this not nice lady with blonde hair. I don't know this woman's name, but I do know what she looks like. There is no smile on this woman's face. Her expression is very strict. When I enter the restaurant, no one greets you or responds to the word hello. I wanted to sit down with my family at the same table, but this woman with a raised voice said this table is reserved. Of course I apologized and we walked away from the table. I have not noticed that there is a booking information on the table. My family and I sat at another table. The same woman informed us that this table is dirty. So we walked away for that table. We didn't know where to sit down and eat lunch? There were a lot of free tables so I don't understand why this woman didn't show us a free table? I stood with the family for about 10 minutes because we didn't know where to sit. I asked the lady who served the bar if she could indicate a free table for me. This young woman at the bar pointed to a table. Very not nice staff, especially one person, a woman, probably is the restaurant manager. This blonde woman is very grumpy. The staff talks about customers. This is very rude of them. I noticed that the staff who deal with horses, after leaving the stables, enter the kitchen which belongs to the restaurant. This staff brings no nice smell from the horse stables. I am a regular customer and am embarrassed by the bad attitude of this respiration staff. Customer service is low. I don't think I would visit restaurants again. I don't want to be talked about and badly served. I'd rather write a good review for your restaurant, unfortunately it's not. Thank you for your attention Mr.Mark

Situated on the Chatsworth estate.A welcome place to test and snack or esy

Nice rural location with fully tarmaced drive and carpark which is great if on bike or motorbike. Food was good standard and cafe staff friendly. Don’t go walking round the horse stables though as they didn’t like us looking around the place. Would try it again sometime.

The food here is amazing ill deffo be comming back Soon lovely views as well, what a great place to to come to eat and relax.

I’ve been here many times since it opened and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere and surroundings are lovely all year round. The food is excellent quality with generous portions. It is brilliant value for money and the staff are always super friendly. Really recommend this place.

Dropped in for lunch, what a great place to visit, very popular with cyclists as well as its reason for being, horses. Staff are very friendly and food was really good, will come here again.

We've been for breakfast and lunch, both of which were enjoyable visits. We recommend booking in advance at it gets busy quickly. The food is good with a wide choice including vegetarian options and choices for those with dietary requirements, and service is always excellent. Very good prices too. We will definitely make it a regular visit!

Very good meal and service, great value for money.

NICE LUNCH! The service was efficient and our lunches were good. Would give 5 stars if they had some shelter outdoors. Unfortunately a light shower sent everyone indoors, so it was a bit full. With loads of outdoor space, they just need a couple of pagodas or heavy duty umbrellas.
