We called into the fascinating little attraction on the way out of Scarborough at the end of October On entering we were immediately transported into what seemed like a cross between the Shambles and a movie set. Lovely little craft shops lined the narrow Victorian lanes selling everything from beautifully leather bound note books and Christmas decorations to baked goods. We particularly loved the gift basket shop. There were gift baskets made up for all genders and ages set in beautiful boxes and birdcages and all were so inexpensive that I did most of my Christmas shopping there and then. At the end we called into the charming tea room for a very nice sandwich and drink. Everything was superbly presented and at the time dressed for Halloween. I would love to see it decorated for Christmas. I do hope that this lovely attraction is successful as we would love to visit time and again.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN CHARGED EXTRA FOR YOUR SUGAR? . ..... We have been going to the Spital Inn restaurant for some time, but recently were charged an additional 50p on our bill. The menu had been removed so we could not check for increases. On our next visit, we queried the charge and were told that the charge was because we had asked for extra sugar! Both of us use two heaped teaspoonfuls in a teacup (3 in a mug) and we had been given one small pot of tea (containing just two cupfulls) and a jug of boiling water which made up another two cupfulls. We were only given sufficient sugar for the first two cupfulls i.e. sachets to the equivalent of four heaped teaspoonfulls. We therefore HAD to ask for more sugar to put into our second cups of tea At the end of this meal, we were again overcharged by another 50 pence (as we half expected).. We complained, but the proprietors insisted that they were entitled to charge extra for the extra sugar, so we paid and left. ..... .Apart from visitors to Faulty Towers, has anyone else ever been charged extra, because they still take sugar in their tea? .

Visited here for breakfast with my mum on the way into Scarborough and couldn't be more happier with our choice. Bacon sandwich was delicious and they served us a teacake even though it wasn't on the menu. With the teacake came a delicious Christmas jam that they just got in for us to try and it was gorgeous so we bought a jar from the shop. The host was very chatty and hospitable and used all local or freshly made on site produce which is lovely to see. Would definitely recommend if you're driving past!!

We have visited 100's of campsites over the years, and have never experienced anything quite like it. Firstly the price was high, £30pn without EHU, but we were happy to pay as it was a late booking for a Bank holiday weekend. We had to pay the deposit with cheque, When we arrived we were then told we needed to pay an extra £5 pernight for a Gazebo. My elderly parents in law had booked a pitch with EHU also payed £30per night, but then when we arrived and they were told they had to pay a deposit for an extension lead to the electic point down to the next field which was shared by 4 other people. This was just the beginning. The weather was torrential, highwinds and continous rain for 3 days, there was nowhere on site to shelter, the pub advertised on the site was closed down, everyone around us were having issues with the electics, even just boiling a kettle. The lady close by had reported it at 9pm and recoeved abuse by the owner, who threatened her with the police and told her she had to leave the site. I raised the issue with the owner who told me people are "thick" because they are overloading the hook up. ( at the time of booking the owner advised us that we could share with the inlaws if we had a cable long enough) we tried this and didnt bother in the end, we were fortunate enough to have 2 leisure batteries and and inverter. Everyone around us were complaining as they were unable to heat their vans/Tents, someone had actually tried taping the switches to stop them tripping, which the owner accused my husband of, and told him we had to leave and he was "going to get his boys down" we had literally been out all day. He then accused my elderly and disabled in laws and told them they had to pay him £100 and harrassed them all weekend. Low and behold he disconected their electric in the early hours of the morning and took back the cable, they woke up to their fridge bleeping where vital medications were stored. On top of this the facilities were insufficient, Covid restrictions in place meant long ques for showers and toilets, the showers were dirty, cold and really low pressure (at the beginning of the weekend they were actually quite clean before the site got busy). The location is very noisy due to traffic, and there is no play area or anything for the Kids. There is a small cafe on site with lovely people and the food is amazing. If you are unfortunate enough to stay here, the Fox and Hound inn down the road is also great, amazing food, reasonably priced, huge portions and helpful friendly staff.

Host very rude and unhelpful, and basically didn't care...(this doesn't apply to the shops attached to site) Although we had paid a deposit for 4 pitches with electricity weeks before, when we arrived only one pitch available with electricity. Harassed my son about where he had pitched, although he was pitched where he'd been told to. We had the one pitch with electricity and in the space of 30 mins we had to reset the trip switch a total of 10 times one night and 15 the next, as we couldn't have the heating on in our caravan and boil a kettle at the same time. Although the pub was advertised as open when we booked, it was closed all the time we were there. The whole experience was dreadful, basically made to feel that they were doing us a favour with everything. However I've got to say that the service in the tea room and bakery were the complete opposite, delicious produce and fantastic customer service, needless to say this is the responsibility of a different family, and nothing to do with the campsite owners.

The site is on the A64, it’s a very busy road with rumble strips leading up to the roundabout which we were approximately 100 metres away from. There are huge lorries travelling very fast and it sounded like we were at the end of a runway ✈️ 🤦♀️ I bought some ear plugs which helped but my husband couldn’t sleep properly at all. We had beautiful weather so we were out and about every day and just used it as a base but we were glad to get away from the noise of the road and get home got a peaceful nights sleep. The facilities were clean and their was always hand wash, sanitiser and toilet roll. There wasn’t anything else open because of Covid so I can’t comment on the park, pub etc. Because of the said road it’s so easy and quick to get to any of the beaches along that stretch of coast, we spent an evening at Hunmanby Gap (10 min drive), a day at in Cayton Bay, (10 min drive) a day at Robin Hood’s bay (about 40 min drive), Scarborough for the afternoon (15 min drive) and the Morrison’s is 10 minutes away as are loads of pubs and restaurants to choose from. The guy who showed us to our pitch was rude on more than one occasion when I spoke to him, he seemed frustrated that I asked a question and on speaking to our neighbours who unbelievably had been to the site for 4 years in a row had also been treated the same by the guy, they booked with a party and we’re told they couldn’t pitch near one another and were put in separate fields although there were plenty of empty pitches around us 🤷♀️ All in all - avoid if you want a peaceful nights sleep and a host who acts like they’re happy to have you (and your money).

Just returned from 3 days at the Spital Inn Camp site. Friendly staff however it’s very close to the main road which you hear all night as it’s a busy main road. And the toilet / shower facilities...Well they were disgusting. The shower literally trickles but the shower tray did t drain. You have the smallest space meaning all my clothes were soaked when I got out. I couldn’t get the shampoo out of my hair as they’re just wasn’t enough water. Men’s were the same. Also advertised baby changing which I’m yet to see. The park advertised was damaged and needs updating. We wouldn’t visit again.

We have been to the pub when we stayed in the area last year and thoroughly enjoyed the food so I thought we would return this year to see if it was just as good as it was convenient to where we were staying. We arrived on the Tuesday night and the place didn't seem too busy but the service was very very slow waiting over 45 minutes for our food. Once we got the food it was lovely although my partner did find the bacon in his burger to be extremely salty which ruined his meal slightly. My salmon was beautiful. I was quite disappointed at the frustration of the weight as we had planned to eat her the following night however my partner persuaded me we should give it another try so we returned on the Wednesday night to eat again. Things seem to flow much more smoothly on the Wednesday night with orders been taken quickly and food arriving in a timely manner. The food again was excellent, we avoided the bacon this time, and we were very impressed. We would certainly return to the club if we stay in the area again I would thoroughly recommend it.

I’m really sorry to put this review on, but it was a poor show today. We had booked for Christmas Lunch. I can only say how we saw it. Arrived to an extremely small cramped packed bar area, do not be fooled by the size of the exterior, bar is tiny. Meal was basically bought from Booker wholesalers and heated. Meat was dry. I couldn’t even call the potatoes roasted as they were sad and certainly had no roasted crispness to them. It’s not easy to please everyone with veg but we didn’t like them, we guessed they were cooked from frozen but can’t say. Stuffing was a small ball of hard dry nothingness, no flavour at all. We think we were extremely lucky to be one of the first to be called up to the carvery because as we left after completing our full meal of 3 courses we noticed the table next us had not even received their starters. All in all we paid a lot of money for a very poor meal. We won’t be back.

They moved heaven and earth to fit us in, first on an out-of-the way table, which we found totally acceptable, and then later they found us 2 x 2 tables in the restaurant. The carvery lived up to its fine reputation. The meats were succulent and the portions generous. Lots of vegetables, gravies, sauces. Every member of staff was a delight - we were thrilled to bits. The house Shiraz was the best house wine I have had for a while. Will definitely go again, but next time book!

Had the Sunday lunch and it was lovely. Yorkshire puds had to have there own plate they were that big!!!! Lots of room, the tables were well spaced out so didn’t feel like we were on top of each other and the staff were super friendly.

Reasonable food at reasonable prices, but the servings are overwhelming, making the sweet course superfluous.

A lovely quaint place just off the A64 Scarborough road. We went in there one evening for a snack are were not at all disappointed by the service or food. The place can be a little difficult to see in the dark from the road however. Highly recommended.

We visited after hearing some fantastic reviews and we weren't disappointed. We don't normally like carverys so we were a bit reluctant. However, it's probably the best carvery I've ever had. Creamy mash, homemade Yorkshire and fresh tasty vegetables. It was a hot day so stifling in the restaurant, so aircon would be an advantage. But the food and service was so good I'm not going to deduct anything for that. After we'd eaten we just sat outside while the children played.Fantastic experience, thank you.

After reading other reviews we chose to meet up with 2 other couples at this restaurant. My lasagne was the worst I've ever had - seemed to be just mince and tomatoes between layers of lasagne with some cheese on top, no taste of herbs or garlic, no onion or mushrooms and some of the lumos of mince were large which no one want to find in their lasagne! The garlic bread served with it was so hard that I couldn't bite it or cut it - it wasn't burnt just so hard as if it had been kept warm. The chips though were great. Also, the waitress who brought our drinks only did so in ones and twos so took 5 trips to bring 6 drinks - did they not have a tray? This happened several times. Didn't say anything to my companions or to the staff as didn't want to spoil the evening as we hadn't seen each other for a long time and had a lot of catching up to do. I do realise that this is purely my opinion but I've had a lot of lasagne over the years and felt I had to comment as it was so tasteless and quite frankly horrible. If there had just been the two of us I would definitely have complained.

I can't believe i haven't tried this place before drove past so many times! My son suggested trying it there were 6 adults & a baby. Majority of us had a carvery, the meat was cooked to perfection, you get a large yorkshire pudding on a separate plate & enticing vegetables. The deserts on the next table looked amazing as well. The staff were lovely& nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely go again when passing . Added bonus dog friendly they have a separate eating area.

We visited here on the friday of the bank holiday in August. I cannot fault The spital Inn and its staff, the pub is lovely the doggy area was lovely and clean and all the staff and customers were lovely and friendly. We ordered food and we didn't have to wait long considering the pub was busy the food came out fresh and full of flavour. It hadn't been reheated and both me and my husband really enjoyed it. I think the landlady served us and told us the doggy area that is inside has the fabrics cleaned weekly and you could tell. If you have dogs do stop off here even if just to let your dogs stretch their legs for a quick drink. We can't fault anything at The Spital Inn and hope to be back again soon.

We have often passed the Spital Inn and said we must give the restaurant a try but never did until we won a meal there thanks to Yorkshire Coast Radio. We were very warmly welcomed and congratulated on our win. We were quickly shown to our table that had a very thoughtful touch of a personalised card. We felt very special. But throughout the meal we observed that the staff welcomed all warmly and professionally. Their attentiveness to us was the same for all, kindly, friendly and not intrusive. Our order arrived without much delay, giving use time to enjoy our wine and chat. The food was excellent with, for us, large portions. Again the time between courses was just right. We were not rushed afterwards although we decided to take coffee etc in the bar area giving us more of an insight to the décor and feel of the place. Overall we had a fantastic meal, served by friendly attentive staff and followed by the same great serve in the bar area. We will definitely book again. Thank you Sharon, Steve and all your staff.

Stopped for Sunday carvery. A bit unclear where to go from entrance but staff very friendly at bar and showed us to go to the left. Choice of four meats and I had some of each - yum. Battered parsnips sounded delicious but too much batter. Three out of four of us could not eat the yorkshire pudding which was overcooked, only my husband could eat it smothered in gravy. An expensive carvery compared to the large chains and disappointing.

Me and my Fianceè stayed at Spital Farm for several nights. The friendly, homely and fun atmosphere is just amazing!!The staff are all very helpful and efficient. Set in a wonderful location with top of the range fresh local produce just makes their restaurant and tea room food excellent.I recommend Spital farm to anyone, and its only a short drive to lots of local interesting places to visit as well.

Went for carvery on Sunday, the staff were great as I'd booked a table then called to say I'd be 30/45 mins late, I said to give our table away but they held it for us which was great so we didn't have to wait as had two young kids 3&1. The service was quick and friendly and the carvery was delicious, nice portion of meat, (better then most carvery places) fluffy homemade yorkies as well. Thumbs up all round from us 4 and looking forward to visit again (P.s. They have a small kids area which is great!)

Having driven past this establishment 100's of times we finally decided to go for Sunday lunch. We eat out as a family (all adults) regularly and we are fast running out of decent eateries. Always open minded about new places to try, our positive expectations sadly were not met.The place is dark cramped and very very dated. I appreciate there is a theme as such but please get some decent lighting and knock down some walls. Next to the bar a girl was sat feet up on the seating staring at her phone with a face that looked like she'd lost a tenner and found a penny. Not a great first impressionWe were taken to a table in to what i can only describe as a cupboard. Cramped and very warm which is not pleasant. We were handed some carvery menus and left for a very long time. As we waited an elderly lady became unwell and tried to get her and her walking frame out of the door. The poor lady and her family really struggled due to thè lack of space. Goodness knows what would happen in an emergency!!Eventually we were told we could go to the carvery which has to be the worst lay out I've ever seen it's almost as though they had a small.bae in the corner of the restaurant and we used to set it up as a carvery. I have to give praise to the chef who looked stressed to he'll but worked the line with impressive style, polite and skilled. Trouble is you go to left hand side to get your meat then have to work toward tour right to add veg potatoes etc while the queue is trying to get past you all in a very confined space which for me being on crutches is a nightmare. The food was good nothing out of the ordinary but ok.The booking/table system is chaotic to say The least another party arrived in the cupboard who had booked but had waited an hour for their table. They got up and left which I think if it had been me I'd have done the same. It's such a shame as this place is on the main road into scarborough and with some thought and planning could be a good mine. It would appear that there is no communication at all between the owners and with no changes this may become a money pit.Come on guys think outside the box. We won't be returning not because the food was poor but the atmosphere is dreadful.

Visited with friends for a meal, and although had eaten there before, first time since new owners took over.We were not rushed in to eat, and we enjoyed a drink before we were seated, and our orders promptly taken. Two of our party of 5 had starters which they enjoyed. Our mains included lamb shanks which were gorgeous, succulent meat which fell off the bone, and 5 clean plates were testament to our enjoyment. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and we thought the entire evening was excellent value for money. Our friends had eaten in Whitby the previous evening, which was considerably more expensive than Spital, and in his opinion he would sooner return there than the Whitby venue.Well worth a visit, you won't be disappointed.

went in and loved every minute! the building is beautiful with plenty to see and do! the owners also have a cool shopping center that is Victorian themed and a cute tea room with even more friendly staff! the restaurants food is cooked fresh and is absolutely beautiful! I've read other reviews abut this place commenting on the files and it is no where near as bad as what people make out? I've seen very few on my multiple visits. the staff are brilliant have a proper laugh with both owner and waitress a like, has a real family vibe to it. would totally recommend to anyone in the area or passing through, but booking is advised as they do get busy!

Visited here with my family for a meal when in the area. Hadn't heard of it and only came across by chance after googling for somewhere to eat. Absolutely fabulous meal. All beautifully cooked. The owners couldn't be more friendly or do more to help us. One of our party is in a wheelchair and this was most definitely not a problem at all. They were great with the kids and had a play area outside. Sadly it was very wet so kids couldn't go out to play but will hopefully make use the next time we visit.

"you enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" said the bar room sign which greeted this weary wanderer who'd taken a wrong turn. I ordered a pint and sure enough before it was pulled I was in conversation with a local man who thenintroduced me to the bar staff! The Sunday Roast was in full swing, the campers were in and out from the pub campsite and the occasional labrador was stealing hearts but nothing seemed to much trouble for the staff. This is a proper country pub, as warm and cosy as a storybook cottage and it's charm appeared to be working on a nearby American couple who's fantasies of an Olde English Country Pub had all just come true. I was on foot and was a few miles from the nearest town but lo and behold one of my new-found companions insisted on giving me a lift... As I exited the bar I glanced the "enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" sign again - this pub does what it says on the tin!

It would look like I’m beating a drum for this pub! But we keep going back because to be honest it is just such good value. Tried their two steaks for £20, choice of rump, sirloin or ribeye, we both went for sirloin, superb, cooked as we wanted, medium rare, salad, mushrooms, peas, onion rings, and a separate bowl of chips. You must try it! I also think you will find it harder to get a better pint of bitter, landlady told me lines are cleaned at the change of every barrel as well as normal cleaning.

Absolutely loved this pub/restaurant. We sat outside with our dog at one of numerous tables and had a delicious Sunday lunch. So much flavour in the meat and the roast potatoes were the best. A bit pricey but worth it for the setting, the food, the service and the landlord brought out some steak pieces for the dogs to share. Amazing.
