Second visit in a week and just as yummy. We all had different dishes i being boring had same as last time coronation chicken croissant! Fantastic! Emily had the tuna sandwich and was amazed at the amount of filling and Hilda enjoyed the soup. We discussed the possibility of an afternoon tea for Emily’s birthday and was told no problem. Will be in touch today to book for next Tuesday (4 of us)

We discovered Spider on a Bicycle whilst staying in the area and what a discovery, the food was so good and the staff were really friendly, our visit was made better as our cocker spaniel Molly was also welcome. Our brunch was sooo good that we went back in the afternoon. We had misunderstood the menu but the staff were so obliging and made what we needed. The almond croissant was delicious, as is the coffee. We can’t recommend Spider on a Bicycle enough as the food is excellent and all the staff extremely helpful and friendly, we will definitely be back.

Our first visit - we were looking for coffee and cake, and were very pleased with what we found. Coffee was delicious, as were the citrus scones, which were served with lovely home made jam. I have visited Spider on a Bike twice since the change of management and have been left feeling disappointed on both occasions. There is no warm welcome, the staff always seem too preoccupied with other things. There are too many small tables crammed close together which doesn’t make for a comfy setting. On our last visit several items from the menu were unavailable and staff seemed unable to advise on suitable alternatives. It’s lost the fun, vibrant atmosphere that it used to have. I hope these are just teething problems, but it needs some work to be what it once was …

If you find yourself in the area or just passing through Aboyne, then you absolutely must stop here. Unquestionably the best coffee you’ll find in Royal Deeside. It’s a big call I know but believe me we’ve looked and done our research! Conveniently located just off the main road in the station square, you can’t miss the bright signage and suspended bicycle signage at the front. The cafe is bright, cosy and welcoming with plenty of seating and a log burner at the back for those arriving by foot or bike on the chilly Highland days. The coffee is phenomenal, the cake simply divine (banana and choc chip was to die for). If you appreciate quality coffee then Spider on a Bicycle is a must. Highly recommended.

A friend and myself went there to get a takeaway lunch, i ordered a pre made salmon sandwich, pork pie and scone with cream jam. They could only put butter and jam in the scone, so dissapointing - who has a scone without cream? I checked what we had after we paid and they had forgotten my sandwich, that wouldn't have been good. The scone was light like a spoonge cake, large size and just wonderful to eat. i would give it 10/10 if it had clotted cream in it. The pork pie was poor, i guess it was old and it was dry. not sure how you have a dry pork pie - not enough fat? or was it beef? my friend had a coconut and lime cake or something like that, he complained that it was super salty. on closer inspection it had a lump in it of something. sieving ingredients is baking basics, day 1 stiff. i would prefer more sandwich selection and more crisps selections, they were on a rack behind you when facing the counter, so not easy to see. when trying to select a packet every man and his dog wants to get past so you have to keep moving back. i would probably go again but the option of going the coop may be a better one.

Shop has a nice vibe and decoration, my partner had the scrambled eggs on toast which was delicious and I had a GF orange/almond/chocolate cake which was rich, moist and tasty. Right in the middle of Aboyne, the Spider offers a nice selection of snacks, meals, soups, salads, coffee, tea, etc., all made from high quality ingredients, and served in informal, attractive and comfortable surroundings. Dogs are welcome, and, having said hello to the other customers, Ruby settled quietly down snacking on a couple of organic oatcakes. There are tables and chairs outside, with cosy blankets if required (no sun as the table area is north facing which is a pity). Hot chocolate is fabulous, as are the cakes and traybakes, but my favourite is the cold smoked salmon platter, with home-made bread, oatcakes, hummus, avocado, pickles etc. A must if you're visiting Aboyne!

Popped into Spider on a Bicycle today for a lunch with my Parents having heard a couple of friends mention it in passing... The menu is not large but Mum and I selected the "BLT" while Dad opted for the "Butternut Squash and Lentil Soup". The BLT was lovely - plenty of crispy bacon on a lovely soft roll. Dad's soup also hit the spot and he could quite happily have had another bowl. The selection of cakes looked great and I had to try one of the pecan brownies. Great food, steak and fish cooked to perfection, served with really good chips. Went for deserts too, which we don’t normally go for, butter tablet ice cream hit the spot.

We were on holiday, staying with friends who live in Aberdeen who recommended this cafe as they had been there before. Unfortunately it did not meet their previously good experiences expectations... Lovely location but quite a limited selection of cakes/pastries available and very small portions sizes for the prices being charged. We sat upstairs and were brought our drinks/cakes by the waiter. The hot drinks were served in horrible plastic 'beaker like' cups (like something a child drinks squash from). The tea was nice but both the latte and flat white were not nice at all, in fact most of the drinks were left. A little more attention to detail could make this place much better

Service was very slow. We were in for 1.1/2 hours just for soup and pudding and coffee

I booked the Glenaden Hotel to provide a funeral tea for 30 people after a private internment in Ballater . Neil , the owner could not have been more helpful in organising this for a very reasonable price. We were delayed at the cemetery but a quick call alerted the staff who said no problem Once there we were given a private area for the family with its own bar and toilets . The food supplied was fresh and plentiful and there was unlimited tea and coffee . The staff were friendly and always available. We were told we could stay as long as we wished and that was great because everyone had come from far afield . It was a nice end to a sad day . We intend visiting again for food when next in the area .

Absolutely amazing visit here and can’t wait to go back. Firstly we loved the location and even on a driech day it was warm and inviting. All staff were genuinely polite, friendly and welcoming and delivered great service throughout. We were mostly served by Carol who could teach masterclass in true customer service to many other places we’ve visited. There were a few things we liked. Firstly it was bright, modern and super clean. Secondly we liked that it was lots of little areas which made our visit more cosy and quiet. Thirdly we loved that this is not a haunt for screaming kids and endless pushchairs. We had a lovely, quiet lunch with each food and drink item being absolutely perfect. We opted for a coffee and their soup and sandwich combo. Sandwiches arrived in the freshest bread and came with salad and crisps. I had the Cullen Skink and husband had the lentil soup. Both were piping hot and absolutely delicious. We couldn’t eat another thing by the end but did choose a couple of homemade tray bakes to take away. If you’re looking for somewhere for a lovely lunch out or just coffee and a cake I’d highly recommend here. Food, service and setting were all perfect and can’t wait to go back.
