... aburrido!

Found this place using my taste card which is located near Victoria station. Service was good but the food was offish, sorry, well below average. Bill for two of us, 2 x starters, 2 main dishes which included two large bottle beers and two glasses of water £41 with taste card discount - even with discount it wasn't worth it. Would not come back - only the beer worth it. Spicy disappointment :(

Well I walked in and I should have turned around and walked out!A large gentleman was sat at a table and shouted, he then said to me "take away" I replied no a table for one please.Next instruction walk up the stairs they will get you a table, I was seated in what I can only describe as someone's dining room.I sat there was no menu, no would you like a drink nothing about 3 minutes later "would you like to order" I responded I'd like a menu actually.I still should have walked out but I didn't.I wish I had, I ordered a poppadom and sauces. The menu was complicated and grubby.Only after being halfway through the poppadom I saw where the sauces where kept on the side even the yogurt was exposed to the air.The lime pickle was from a jar ontop of the beer fridge. The starter came out and clearly the onions had been chucked on for effect as the chicken had not been cooked with it!The main arrived after another 10 minute wait and the chicken was tough, there was very little flavour, the rice had clearly been microwaved was dry as dry could be and stuck together. The decor well the place needs knocking down and a real restaurant putting in its place.I am never going to this place again, i asked for the bill and waited 10 minutes for it to arrive. I wouldn't recommend it to the most hated person on the planet and to add insult to injury the automatically charge a service charge.Worst meal I've had in a long time

I visited this restaurant for a quick dinner before going to Gatwick Airport. The place was almost empty so there was plenty of space for our luggage. The menu was quite extensive, including the usual Indian dishes but also an extensive list of Nepalese ones. I opted for these as I was after a vegetarian meal and was not disappointed. The dishes tasted fresh and not too greasy. The naan bread was delicious and so was the poppadums. And our bill came to no more than 20 pounds each including two alcoholics drinks. Service was friendly and courteous.

Owner was clearly intoxicated whilst we were ordering our food, and was being incredibly outlandish and bashful. Unfortunately the awful experience of having to deal with the owner was only "bettered" (i.e. Worsened) by the food that was on offer - it tasted very much like a terrible (terrible terrible) version of the microwave curry that cam be purchased in sainsbury, across the road - which would have been comparatively delicious. The Indian restaurant 2 doors down is leaps and bounds above this truly awful place, which isn't necessarily high praise. I'd heard from acquaintances that this place was terrible, but I don't think I'd have believed it without having gone there. My 3 star rating for "service" is only testament to the waiters who were clearly visibly embarrassed by the behaviour of their incredibly drunk manager.

Heading away from Victoria, down Wilton Road looking for a "ruby", we were confronted by three Indian restaurants in a row. We took the view that those on either side of Spicy World were rather more like Berlin discos. We plumped for Spicy World in the middle as it looked suitably down at heel to be a genuine value curry house.Pretty reasonable service and curry spiced up to whatever level we asked for. Decent meal justified our view that this was the one of three to go for !

What possessed me to go in this hole?! I was wondering round Pimlico looking for a meal whilst staying in a local hotel. Fancied a curry, saw this place, didn't expect much, but thought it would fit the bill. Average is too kind. Ordered set menu. Sat for 15 mins having finished my popadoms with v. bland pickles until finally a waiter asked if there's anything else is like. Yes I said, the rest of the meal I already ordered would be a start!! 2 mins later I have my starter...nuked in the microwave. Rubbery.com. Look out, no time at all and here comes my main. At least they've picked up the pace.... but oh dear, I didn't bargain for this bland bowl of Balti! Actually bland is too kind a word. No flavour, no spice, just chewy chicken in tasteless stoge. Don't waste ur time or money. Better off getting a microwave meal from the local coop

Went here with a mate and had a very bad experience. The owner spent our entire meal yelling at people on his phone. The waiter was friendly but screwed up our order, forgetting to bring one of the two main dishes we ordered (!). When it finally arrived, the food was pretty terrible (boiled tasteless meat in a grim sauce, pilau rice that resembled boiled rice stained yellow, stale poppadoms). I urge London tourists to look elsewhere for their Indian food - there are so many good budget places that I do not know how this survives (or the place next door!).

The waiter who served us was very attentive and accommodating, the food was yummy, and the restaurant was reasonably clean and in good repair. His boss was a different story. The owner of the restaurant apparently likes to sit in the dining room and yell at contractors, delivery people and especially, at his own staff. The initial experience was ok beers and papadums were good then we ordered and the mains came. The overall quality of food was poor, really nothing special, I have 2 friends that regularly eat madras curry and they couldn’t eat it as it was so spicy (1 medium and 1 mild) the rest of the food was a disappointment. When the bill came that was a surprise, just under £200 for 6 people. I had 2 papadums, the worst fish curry I have ever had, rice, a small naan bread and 2 large bottles of beer for over £30.00. The staff certainly cannot be accused of being inattentive! Indeed, what was supposed to be a pleasant meal felt more like a constant invigilation. Their smiles betrayed malevolence and the portions were miserly to say the least. The kebab consisted of 3 or 4 pieces of meat which looked like they had been given the microwave treatment, and the food was way overpriced. The toilets were dirty and bizarrely situated next to a kitchen/dungeon which was home to some weird washing rituals. I mean, do you really want your wife to see a man with his shirt off throwing water over his body as she makes her way to the toilet? I guessed not, so give this place a wide berth. Even the high commercial rents that restauranteurs have to face are no excuse for this hellhole's abject failings.

The red flag should have been an employee popping out the front door while we were looking at the window-posted menu and offering us a 5 pound off coupon, though it had no bearing on my decision. We wanted Indian food and it looked like a pretty authentic place. I'm no culinary expert, but I thought the food was very good, just what I was looking for. The service was mostly good, and occasionally awkward. When he took our order he left, got a pad, then had us repeat the whole thing.Food arrived quickly, was hot and very tasty. I think they were trying to re-coup from the fact that we had a coupon, didn't order any drinks except for one soda, and ordered 3 of the cheapest things on the menu (7 - 9 pounds each). The bill should have been about 27 pounds but was 47 pounds (including service, and coupon discount!). They charged us about 3.50 EACH for RICE! 2.50 each for Naan. Unbelievable. I could swear that the menu said all of that was included (isn't it always?.. rice at least) and seasonal vegetables. I stared at the bill for about 3 minutes when the server passed by probably noticing my quizzical look and said "I gave you a 5 pound discount." I said "I thought our dinners included rice and naan." He just said "no."Acknowledging the fact that I had a good meal, good service, 47 pounds for dinner for 3 in London (reasonable price, all things considered), and not wanting to upset the rest of my party, I went ahead and paid it. Of course it's not the money at all, it's the way they did it. Very upsetting experience overall, which is a shame.

From reading the other reviews here, I'm guessing the service and food is inconsistent.I was wandering around looking for a place for dinner, and, well, the 12.95 dinner buffet caught my eye. The restaurant was packed with a large party, so they sat me in a small downstairs room with a handful of tables, which the waiter explained to me they usually don't do. From this vantage point I spent the first half of my dinner listening to the waiter go back into the kitchen area to scream at the kitchen staff, who would scream back. From the tones of voices, it seemed the waiter fancied himself a 'Brahmin' compared to the 'Shudra' kitchen staff. It was rather comical to see the smiling waiter excuse himself, close the door behind him as he entered the kitchen, listen to a torrent of screaming by numerous individuals for about 30 seconds, then the waiter would appear again smiling good-naturedly as if nothing was amiss, and then have this repeat itself about 3 minutes later.Despite this cacophonic orchestra, the buffet special was quite good, and was offered in a different way then I was used to: the waiter brought out numerous small plates (including spicy chickpeas, lentil dahl, lamb/goat, butter chicken, tandoori chicken, naan, saffron rice) and told me if I wanted more that I should ask for more. I asked for additional plates of rice, dahl, chickpeas and lamb/goat, no problems. I thought the food was quite decent. Other reviews here have mentioned being "ripped off", service being terrible, etc., but I didn't experience that. The service was attentive, the food was decent, and I felt I definitely got my money's worth with the dinner buffet special.

First to maybe clear some of the confusion - Spicy World has two locations, one on the corner of Gillingham and Vauxhall behind Victoria station (as pictured above) and one at 76 Wilton Road round the corner. Friends and I happened upon the Wilton road main restaurant a few days ago and we had a wonderful meal! Tasty food with a really good varied menu, including Nepalese, and the staff were attentive and accommodating. They were almost full on a Tuesday night and we were lucky to get a table. The outlet was run by 1-person who doubled as the waiter and chef when I visited. Everything was nice and fine, from my ordering (from the normal menu I was given) to the serving and my eating. Food was so-so even though the waiter boasted about how popular his curry was. The shock came when the bill arrived. I was charged double the price for my curry. He took out a differently-priced (much highly-priced) menu and claimed they serve based on that menu during the Christmas season. I am okay with paying the higher prices, but only if I had been informed before hand. Being shown one price list, and being charged based on a very much higher one, is sheer dishonesty and utterly disgusting. I do not recommend this restaurant.

The restaurant suggests that it is Nepalese by the decor and the menu which appears to have a very wide selection of different dishes from North, East, South and West Nepal. The reality is that you get a standard meat or chicken curry without anything different from your standard, average takeaway so don't bother spending ages choosing your meal. just decide chicken, meat or vegetable. Expensive - £1.95 for a very poor chapatti!! I'm really glad it was on expenses otherwise I wouldn't have paid! There's much better much cheaper.

We went to this restaurant after the waiter gave us a 5£ coupon. We tried to ask for an appetizer and a main course for the two of us, but they didn't let us chose for one main course only. The waiters served very badly and they were always forgetting things to put us, like forks and knives. The service was very bad for the whole meal.In the end, they did gave us the 5£ discount, but they added 5,15£ for VAT commission, they sad... This was all very sad because they were taking advantage of us. We paid a lot of money: 42£.We won't go there again and we recommend you not to, either.

We really made a mistake by choosing this "restaurant" after reading many good reviews on Toptable pages. We even booked it beforehand. The Internet photo looked rather good, additionally. However, although food was OK, the service was unprofessional (waiter forgot to put forks and knives on the table, took away the wine list before ordering, one of the menus did not contain all pages etc.). In short, this is no restaurant but a food kiosk with a couple of tables and chairs. The positive issue was, however, that afterwards we had a good laugh at what had happened

Never has a name failed to live up to what it says on the tin! I opted for a dish that the menu said was very spicy and not for those that couldn't handle really hot food (I normally eat very hot food anyway). When it did arrive, it was totally without heat or spice. Totally bland. We also ordered two beers- one cobra, one kingfisher. Two cobras arrived and we were told that that was 'good enough'. Later on we did actually get a kingfisher - so it's not as though they weren't available! Throughout the whole meal the staff seemed more focussed on watching the cricket on the TV with the volume cranked up so everyone had to listen to it, When the bill finally arrived it was stupidly expensive. £61 for a basic curry for two people with a few beers. Total ripoff. Save you'll some money and get a far better dining experience by going anywhere else !

We ate here with a group of friends recently, and were overall satisfied with the place. The restaurant itself was tiny, and somewhat stuffy. There is no disabled access and one shared toilet down some twisty stairs. I tend to look past that until I get the food -- I was most impressed with the extensive menu and how well items were described. WE had some in the party who weren't familiar with Indian food in general, and the descriptions were really accurate and very helpful in making a decision. The portions on mains were average, but the starters were really small (King prawn dish turned out to only have one prawn, and not an excessively large one). However I thought the presentation and taste of the rest of our meals was fabulous. Our servers were friendly, if somewhat confused. One of our party had a discount card, so we paid proportionately less for our meals as well - overall we were happy with the experience.

I visited Spicy World for a peaceful dinner alone on a slow Wednesday night. The meal began well enough with very attentive service and a delicious vegetarian meal. Unfortunately, the experience was completely ruined when the owner began to verbally abuse his staff in front of me. There had been a simple mistake with a beverage shipment; this error sent the owner over the edge. He was screaming at the delivery men and his own wait staff with such anger and fury, I felt sick to my stomach. After the delivery was made, the waitress thanked the delivery man, apologized for her employer's behaviour and said, "I'll see you next time." The delivery man responded, "I hope not. I hate coming here." I don't think this is the first time he's seen the boss's rage. Before I left, I confronted the owner and explained how disappointed I was with the experience. I told him it was disgusting to see the way he treats his staff and explained that I would be writing this review. He verbally apologized to me, but refused to apologize to the workers he abused. I left my 'peaceful night out' feeling shaky and sick.

We visited on a Saturday night, the place wasn't particularly busy and whilst looking at the menu outside they offered us a 15% discount so we decided to "give it a go". The food was okay, most of our party had the Tandoori mix and a couple had curry dishes. Two of our party like their chips so two portions were ordered. When we got the bill they had indeed given us a 15% discount but they then added a 12% service charge. Being as the service wasn't wonderful, they were taking dishes away before we had finished with them I complained about the service charge and they did indeed remove it.I wouldn't re visit the place.Oh and the chips.....£7.90 for two portions!!!

My friend and I went to Spicy World after a day out.We ordered a chicken sally and a prawn dish with some kind of coconut sauce. The food was *delicious*... HOWEVER, when you pay £15 for a shrimp dish, I would expect to get a platter of shrimp. It was a very small dish with about a 250mL of sauce - and three very average sized prawns. £5 per shrimp?!?! Seriously?? I would love to eat there again - but that turned me off it completely.

We tried several different dishes and found them to be very good. Atmosphere a little dingy but food made up for the decor. Wait staff very attentive but owner rather loud and bossy to his staff. Washrooms need upgrading but acceptable. Don't let the look of the building or the name deter you from trying the food.

Enjoyed a great buffet meal in Spicy world today. It's only a small place but I think that's what makes it so good. If your passing by and you fancy some quality Indian food then this is definatly worth a visit.

While looking at the outside menu, the manager came out and offered us a £5 coupon. My wife really wanted a buffet (it was on the menu, but learned it was for lunch). The manager said he would give us a buffet-like meal (and all you can eat) for the lunch buffet price. The meal started with pappadum with 3 different types of chutney. An appetizer came next. We then received a chickpea dish, a lentil dish, followed by 3 main dishes (chicken, beef, and lamb). We also got naan bread. Everything was delicious. We left fully satisfied. The servers were very friendly and the manager came by several times to make sure everything was going well. This was a perfect ending to a full day of sightseeing.

We enjoyed our dinner. The seasoning was perfect. We were passing the resturant, and we were offered a discount of 5 pounds. It was an incentive to eat there. We were not disappointed.

I love Indian food and eat it often.Spicy World is a little establishment, we came here as it was close to the Musical Wicked which we were seeing. At first sight I wasn't expecting too much. The place definitely needs a little TLC but when our food was brought I was very impressed. The taste and quality was excellent and I would definitely come back again. The menu was extensive and there was also a buffet available as well as various meal deals. A good place for a quick tasty Indian meal.

Being a "sand dance"r ( native of South Shields) I always thing I know about and fancy a curry. I never learn - I always feel ripped off and this was no exception. The young women who served me was lovely. I ordered a lamb biryani . Asked if I wanted a drink , I asked for a glass of water ( while I like a drink a will not pay almost £4 for half a pint). I was asked if I wanted a poppadom came with some pickles (£2.50). Curry came the nan bread was the size of a slice of bread, curry was in two very small bowls - veg curry and a dhal, The rice and lamb was OK but not excessive. Hardly a plateful - £20( with compulsory service charge). The place did not look too clean and I felt ripped off. Spoilt my day. Keep clear.

On initial entry seemed like a pleasant place but hell was I wrong. There was no time given between courses and during eating the main meal was told they wanted to close, didn't even have a chance to finish my meal after all I paid for the food so shouldn't I have been allowed to finish it so therefore I was forced to leave half of my meal I found this very rude of the staff and also one of the members of the staff continually leant on the table I was dining at throughout the time I was there even when I was trying to have a conversation with my wife won't be going there ever again also the food gave me food poisoning my opinion is to avoid at all costs .

My husband and I decided to give this place a try and the owner made sure his restaurant did not disappoint! He personally served us and gave us extras that we did not order! Prices were fantastic and the food was great -- it was served in a way that if we wanted more they would serve us more at no extra charge! I'm not sure why some of the other reviews are negative but we had nothing but a POSITIVE experience here! Mind you -- there are plenty of other restaurants to choose from on this road and we know we did not go wrong choosing this one!

Horrible and expensive. stopped in for 1 meal and 3 appetizers. They were obviously upset that we were not all eating full course meals. Convinced us they did not speak English well. Offer us other things we did not order . The bill was 74 pounds. Cherrio chap. Buyer beware. Manager berated wait staff in front of us (probably because we didn't order main courses). stay away unless you want to pay alot for substandard indian food.

First the good - friendly and attentive staff, pleasant enough set up, however, fundamentally a curry house is only as good as it's curry - and despite the large number of other diners and an impressive menu we weren't impressed. Chef seemed to have a tamarind obsession - with my curry in particular tasting of little else. Other curry's were not particuarly flavoursome, dhal was extremely watery, dips accompaning the poppadoms unimaginative and again could have been better. We may just have come on a bad night, but given the number of Indian curry houses in the vicinity it probably won't get another chance.

Truly very disappointed! The food is average but the service is smily...shame it is not complete! I have ordered several times from here for convenience alone as they are just around the corner from me. Sadly they have let me down in the past with missing elements of my order which I was prepared to forgive the first and second time. This time I specifically requested they check the order as items had been missing in the past and still they managed to forget items amounting to about £8... A few times a night at this rate and I can see why they are still in business...for all the wrong reasons!!

Was given wrong, and cold food, when I rang them I was greeted by someone that didn't make any sense when he spoke to me, and said he'd put me through to a manager, and then just hung up and I didn't hear back. And the man who delivered the food had the cheek to ask for a good rating. Will never order from the again, absolutely terrible service.

Me and my daughter came for a meal after watching Pretty Woman!Poppadum and chutney tray we’re delish! Disappointed no hot plates for main sides! Half tandoori chicken tasted great! Sides not worth £8.95 each! Service charge already on the bill - the waiter had the cheek to ask if we wanted to leave a tip??? Kind of ruined the experience !!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A comida é boa. Nao é uma autentica comida indiana, mas saborosa. O atendimento deixa um pouco a desejar em alguns momentos.
