Spicy Style in Leicester

Would not recommend, staff were so rude and abrupt when I walked in, not even a simple “hello” and I ordered £19 worth of food for the portion to be made so small. I ordered salt and pepper chips which just came as regular ones and a curry sauce that was not even filled half way. Don’t waste your money!

Such a bad restaurant. The spoons are not clean and every utensil has a fishy smell.

It was so disgusting, I ordered braised pork sausage noodles. Here comes the colorless and tasteless pork belly noodles, even with fungus! Not authentic at all

Just stumbled across this page as I was walking to get my bus and had 20mins to spare. Ordered beef noodles. Came in about 10mins and we’re absolutely delicious. Top notch. No gloopy sauce just noodles, bean sprouts, lots of beef and a bit of chilli. A very generous plateful too! I will definitely be returning.

Ordered the sour spicy fish, cumin lamb and century with green peppers. Awesome dishes. Cook to perfection, great hospitality, enjoyed it thoroughly.

It's a nice place for different types of rice dishes. Chicken fried rice, beef fried rice and the likes. The portions are really large and served in a large takeaway pack.

Delicious Szechuan food with large portions, perfect for sharing between a big group! Very friendly owner who is helpful with orders every time we visit to takeaway.

The most authentic great Chinese food!!! I’ve now always stopped here to get the sweet pork in the pot (couldn’t remember the actual name of it). The noodles we had was so spicy and gave a nice tingling numb-ish to the lips great for those who loves spicy food. Also, had the shredded potatoes it’s made cold in a vinegar ish sauce. The customer service is not the best but since the owner knows that we come and visit the store regularly for the pork dish, it’s perfectly fine. The owner itself doesn’t speak much English but a little translator doesn’t hurt. There’s one toilet for people to use there. If anyone goes there and doesn’t order the pork dish seen in the picture the one in the black pot, they are going to regret it!!! It’s a MUST TRY!!!

Went for lunch; the staff were too unprofessional, and rude. They were listening to some music loud whiIe I was having my lunch; I had to pack up my food, and go somewhere else to eat; so annoying people. The food was cold and very greasy!!

Got the salt and chilli tofu which on the photo displays deep fried tofu puffs like in most Chinese places. Instead got little plain tofu chunks which weren't anywhere as near as nice. Seemed like there was no salt either so very bland tasting. Disappointing

Arrive Leicester around 9.30pm for the first time, saw spicy style restaurant, went in there, although it's half an hour to closing time, boss was kind enough to offer to sit in. We don't waste time, quickly order two dish, and bish bash bosh, the dish is out. His cooking skill is super speedy and the dish is just spot on. Normally szechuan dish are super numb with their black peppercorn but his dish just taste super delicious and not overly spicy and numb till you don't enjoy it. We lick thru the two plate with 4 portion of rice. Love their speedy service and amazing food. Highly recommended.

Honestly, we arrived in Leicester late at night incredibly hungry and were fortunate enough to find this restaurant close to our accommodation. Owner and chef was very friendly, offering alternatives if they didn't have specific dishes. Had szechuan dishes like mapo tofu and some pork dish with preserved vegetables which both tasted great and were definitely spicy enough to be szechuan and not overwhelming. Personally like the lack of full peppercorns. Service was very quick too! Food and service was overall great, portion size and price is generous too, would recommend.

Went for lunch and didn't realise how big the portions would be! (Over) Ordered lotus root, mapo tofu, and chicken with potato, and plain rice. It wasn't overly spicy but the flavour was amazing and the veg was cooked perfectly. I would definitely go back again and try some different dishes - though I'd order less or go with more people! Prices are fairly standard for this type of Chinese restaurant, but worth it in my opinion.

Real pleasure, great meat and noodles. Food is really fine, you can get both cutlery or chopsticks if you want. Fantastic place, will return here many times more!

My friends and I really enjoy this authentic Chinese restaurant. The food here tastes absolutely amazing and the portion sizes are even better. The hospitality was also great as those who run the restaurant are very kind and patient. Pricing here is also great and it is overall a fantastic deal. I highly recommend this place to anyone...ever since I've been here I see no reason to eat anywhere else.

Ate here with my wife and son. We were made to feel at home by the charming family that runs the place. The selection of pork dishes that we ordered were all delicious and generously portioned. Grateful for the recommendations. Looking forward to our next visit!

Absolutely delightful Szechuanese food. This was just right for four people (of whom 3 vegetarian) £9.90 1x Sour and Spicy Shredded Potato (Spicy) 酸辣土豆丝 （辣） £8.80 2x Plain Rice 白米饭 £2.90 1x Salt and chill Tofu-椒盐豆腐 £7.90 1x 蒜泥黄瓜（Cucumber with Garlic） £8.80 1x Fried beef with cumin（Spicy）-孜然牛肉（辣） Fresh, clean-tasting, well balanced. Varied, authentic menu to choose from with many accessible options to introduce those who haven’t tried Szechuanese food before. Appreciated the free prawn crackers which most of us hadn’t had in a quarter of a century!

Recently moved into the area and tried this local Chinese. All our dishes were delicious and portions were nice and big. We will definitely be ordering again. By the way, I saw the reviews about the customer service being rude. I didn’t think so at all. The gentleman simply doesn’t speak English well. He was lovely.

Terrible service & over priced. Tofu wasn’t cooked properly, Duck was the cheapest meat you could get, full of kidney & bones. Noodles were ok. Won’t be visiting again.

Avoid this place like the plague, it has the worst customer service, food is extremely overpriced and tastes absolutely disgusting with too much salt in it.

The food is fresh, authentic and so delicious. Normally after a take away you can feel dehydrated and bloated, that is not the case here. Really impressed. However the actual restaurant area is absolutely basic. You are not going in here for the experience and ambiance. The service is embarrassing, you not be made to feel less welcome. I would recommend a take away.

The handmade tofu here is amazing. The hotpot is quite good however could do with more options. One of the better hotpots in Leicester.

Do not be put off by the décor or exterior - I have to agree with previous posts best Szechuan style food I have ever eaten, we ordered 10 mains to share between a few of us and every one was fantastic. Please open a higher end restaurant and make this a truly special place to eat

We'd wanted to try this Chinese diner for a while. Managed a lunch today. Interesting menu ranging from green peppers (chilli) with tofu sheets (veggie) to pig's blood sauce and fried pig's intestines. Not disappointed. Really enjoyable food. Inexpensive. Absolutely basic hospitality, tableware and humourless service that had us laughing.

This little gem of a restaurant, adored by the Leicester Chinese student population and little known to the rest of the world, is almost certainly the best Sichuanese food in UK! We are an Indo-Chinese hybrid family and have searched the country high and low in search of the authentic Sichuanese experience...and Spicy Style wins the award hands down. For the uninitiated, most Chinese food served in the UK is Cantonese, originating from the Hong Kong style of cooking. Sichuanese cuisine comes from southwest China, and tends be spicy and garlicky (We are talking tongue-numbing spice...not for the faint-hearted). All Indian lovers of spicy Chinese food (like they do it in India) will find this place to be heaven. The restaurant itself is very unpretentious, almost canteen style, simple and basic decor- not a place to go to if seeking atmosphere. The focus here is the food. There is not a single dish that we have ordered to date that has not left us gagging for more. Have been about 20 times. Would highly recommend the Mapo Tofu, Yibin Specialty Noodles, Double fried pork and Dan Dan Noodles for the bold. Many non-spicy dishes available too such as Japanese sizzling Tofu, Kung Po Chicken etc etc. Can ask for many dishes to be made vegetarian and/or non-spicy where possible. Easy on the pocket too, can get box meals (rice and a stirfry) for about 6 pounds. And the icing on the cake is the reassuring levels of cleanliness and hygiene standards. Authentic- like eating in China. A must try! Word of caution - limited English spoken here so if you have special requirements e.g. vegetarian or allergies, then speak slowly, and check, check, and clarify. Go with Chinese friends if you have any, for the best experience!

Another one of those places that has sprung up in Leicester recently, reflecting the influx of Chinese students to the city. I have been a couple of times recently with friends and the food has been great! Excellent range of dishes, from the High Street standards to the more authentic and uncompromising dishes, and all very tasty. Service is friendly and efficient and the prices are very reasonable. Thoroughly recommended!
