Red China in Leicester

Ordered a take away and it was not great at all. Barely edible and we ended up leaving most of it. All the food was quite obviously not fresh, as in cooked couple days before and reheated... badly! Left an oily coating in my mouth and I fell a bit gross having eaten it!

The food was okay, but the service was really bad. The waiter liked to chat about what was available. I went to eat, and I opened my mouth just to eat, not because I opened my mouth to cater to you. When you eat with friends of the opposite sex, you open your mouth to be your boyfriend or girlfriend. It seems that there must be a relationship between two people of the opposite sex. Is it possible that there is homosexuality among them? ? ?

Ordered £60 worth of food and it came stone cold the chicken was chewy the chips were soggy and half the order was wrong. I rang them and spoke to one of the colleagues, who was appalling and was being very disrespectful I then asked to speak to a manager and asked him for a refund and he was no help either I will not be ordering from here again

Really nice authentic Chinese restaurant that's run by amazing people. Tastes great, and is reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend. Bonus tip, ask for the special Chinese menu. Contains more dishes, and the server would happily assist you in choosing a dish

I thought I'll give this place a try but unfortunately I can't say I was impressed. Food was disappointing.

DO NOT EAT HERE I found many little bugs in the wonton soup I ordered. This was not too much of an issue as I expected a simple apology, refund or alternative meal. Instead the lady at the counter refused that they were bugs and said they were black salt. I'm not an idiot and on showing her a zoomed in photo I took of bugs, she refused to believe it despite me having taken the photos while she was standing right there. I'm appalled by the attitude I received but found it redundant to argue back. The male chef was kind and for that reason I am not going to attach the photos I took which clearly depict little bugs with all 6 legs and antennae. That said, don't waste your money here. :/

Excellent authentic Chinese food prepared by a professional Chinese Chef, trained in Beijing. Definitely a good find and I will be back to try a few more dishes. The prawn dumplings were very tasty.

Sitting there far over 1hour before food came out wen it did rice very cold ribs cold then we just sitting there far at least 15 min waiting on curry only give half our food chicken curry really ugly beef curry ugly everything we got did not taste right place dirty I got really disappointed went there with my husband and kids far my birthday meal never agin

Lovely polite gentleman taking orders at the till, best curry sauce iv ever had with the perfect amount of spice, will 100% be going again.

I had the pleasure of being taken to Red China, by a friend who is Chinese. The food here is incredible. Unfortunately I cannot remember the names of the dishes: I had a lamb dish that was very aromatic with flavours. The meat fell off the bone and just melted in my mouth. Another dish we had was shell on spicy prawns. We also had a noodle broth dish that had Pak choi and sliced beef (I could quite happily eat this everyday! It was bursting with flavour) We also had a side dish of Pak choi that had a garlic sauce. I also experienced a traditional herbal tea. This is quite honestly one of the best meals I've had! Western Chinese takeaway is nothing like this traditional and authentic taste of China! The chef has unbelievable talent! Highly recommend and cannot wait to experience again!

大家真都别来吃了。不会做生意真的别做，我们是来吃饭的，不是来受气的？什么态度啊甩着个臭脸在那里，欠你钱了？我是来吃霸王餐的？那么多人都说你态度有问题，不知道好好反省一下。这个中国红完全靠老板一个人在撑，有这个老板娘一天这个中国红都做不久。你在国外干中餐就是靠中国人的口碑，没口碑你怎么做？莱斯特任何一家中餐比不比你差，你这态度谁来吃？

有意思 这家店全靠老板的手艺在维持，菜还是不错的。 至于这位不知道是前台还是老板娘的工作人员，甚至连基本的沟通都很难做到。 我相信她绝对是客人不会再来的唯一原因，希望店家抓紧把她换掉，以免加速倒闭。

My wife is chinese and we recently visited the restaurant when got off the train. First issue was that the chicken meal was not as pictured and was battered chicken. We also had an issue with the bill where they had overcharged on alm dishes. When we asked about thus the said everything costs more. This was in no way reflected on the menu or communicated in anyway. I would avoid this place. If you do go check your bill

菜的味道还不错。但是那个女前台真的醉了。。甩脸子给谁看？那上二楼上菜的老板和一个小哥态度都很好，怎么就她好像我们欠了她几百万？一开始进门问她点菜就一直翻白眼爱答不理的。最后插个信用卡刷卡一直在那假动作，说信用卡要第二天到账让我们换别的。那如果有理由有苦衷我们肯定会照办啊，你会不会客气点讲话？我们客客气气的她在那好像我们是什么用信用卡就十恶不赦？我们说没有，她才不情愿的伸出来pos机给我们，付完把发票一甩甩台上啥也不说一句直接假装我们不存在。真的第一次见态度这么恶劣的。。对不起老板但是这个女服务员让我再也不会去你们家吃饭。并且我会告诉想去尝试的朋友有一个特别恶劣的女前台，慎重！建议别去！

This is absolutely the worst Chinese restaurant in the whole country!!! I’m a Chinese but I’ll leave my comment in English in order to let all the people know how bad they are!!! The hygiene is totally intolerable and food quality is really bad, bad taste with disgusting stuff in the food. I’ve tried different times ordering their food so I can give the most thorough review of this restaurant. I couldn’t tolerate that people are getting sick after eating their food. For myself, I got diarrhea several times after eating Red China, which I will certainly report to relevant departments. The staff are rude and impolite, very bad experience at all. They never gave me any cutlery when ordering takeaway no matter what Apps I used.

The food was incredible we had 10 dishes shared between 4 of us & was absolutely lovely and were all full up. The waiter was lovely, chatty and made us feel all so comfortable. Even taught us about China! Highly recommend & will definitely be back ☺️

This is seriously good food. The chef is talented, believe me. The sweet and sour fish is world-class: crispy, generous portions, with just the right drizzle of sauce and garnish. Fantastic. The soups and noodle dishes are delicious as well. I eat here nearly every week and would eat here every day if I lived next door!

£30 worth of chinese now sitting in the bin. Chicken was like jelly, Crispy duck is actually Soggy Duck. Cucumber well past it, watered down hoi sin sauce. Phoned to complain and they hung up on me. They have a 2* hygine rating for a reason. AVOID AVOID AVOID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely terrible! Food inedible. Credit card charged twice. Chicken in black bean sauce looked ok - chicken consistency of jelly , no taste - disgusting. One item was a box of fried chillies. All food obviously old and reheated. Avoid

Went tonight for an excellent authentic hot pot and BBQ. Flavours were fantastic, portions were very generous and great value for money. We had a half and half hot pot soup, one lamb and one chicken. Look forward to going back and try more of the menu.

Early Saturday evening, so very quiet. Looked more like a cafe than a restaurant, but food was very good - large portions at a reasonable price, and very tasty. Food came out bit by bit, so we ate most of first two before any rice arrived - could be an issue when busier? But we enjoyed, and would definitely go again

Feeling the food is not clean, and have diarrhea after eating, really terrible.

Definitely recommended , very classic China west Szechuan cuisines , not overly spicy but delicious , 3 of us finished.all 5 dishes

Came here twice before pandemic struck. 1st time they couldn,t understand my order. I came a 2nd time but realising I needed to be more coherent and clear to avoid mistakes. Yet the server still didn,t quite get it. I then realised the problem was his poor English. They cater mostly for the Chinese community, which is fair enough, I don,t have a problem with that but the food is so-so. At least they,re better than the Red Lantern nearby.

Good priced authentic Chinese food

the service is really bad. the staff can't speak English. everytime when I asked questions in mandarin to the staff, she looks so annoyed as well, as if I did something wrong. some of the food I ordered didn't come as well. menu is really misunderstanding, especially the English hotpot one.

Ordered from deliveroo. Chicken and sweetcorn soup was flavourless and watery. Very disappointed.

Went and it was a great atmosphere and really friendly staff. Really big portions for the cheap price.

Ordered take away. It was fast, the staff on the phone was very polite and accommodated all the modifications we requested. The food was hot tasty. I would certainly my order again.

Nice staff and great value for money

The previous reviewers are all correct. Have been here three times since moving to the area. The first time was excellent, with a sweet and sour cantonese (Hong Kong) style that was well above average. The Tom Yum soup was also very good, rich flavour and not overdone with fish sauce like some thai places. Came back a week later for a takeway which was ready in about ten minutes and also very good. A week or two later was in again, this time the food was noticeably not quite as good as previously. (still not bad though). From what I could see, there was a different chef, a younger man. I think this was on a Sunday, so possibly it was a night off for the regular chef? Btw. the clientele here seems to be almost exclusively Chinese. The waitress (as of the time I'm writing) barely speaks any English, and you have to point out on the menu what you want. (Don't worry, the menu itself is in English). The prices here are very reasonable, so take it from me, it's worth a try.

Ok however owners were restricted in the level of English spoken.. food was not Halal which wasnt an issue for me but for my friend

Good service, large food portions

Short 5 mins walk up hill from Leicester Train station. Very authentic Chinese with twists of Thai Soup (yummy spicy). Waitress hardly speaks any English, can be entertaining or frustrating when ordering. Décor very basic and from the outside not very appealing. But the food is excellent with a wide choice of Szechuan, Manchurin... barbecue (like Korean where you cook it yourself over a barbecue on your table). Portions are big enough for two to share easily and inexpensive e.g. Thai Soup from around £3 for large portion (excellent spicy), mains from about £5-9 but easily large enough for two. Good vegetarian options too - well worth a visit. Does takeaway food too.

We had hot pot, there was a lot of food but some of it was very bad quality. I certainly don’t want to be putting cheap hot dog sausages in my hot pot along with fish that looked questionable. We didn’t eat it all and were shocked to see that the left overs were served to another table!

The food is very tasty and plenty, the price is very reasonable and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The decor is typical Chinese, you can have cook meal or cook for yourself as founder and barbecue. Must try, you won"t regard it.

Well everyone knows that Leicester does not have a vast array of good Chinese restaurants and this one on London Road seems to be an exception. The food was fresh and plentiful and tasted very authentic. They also do a hot pot and bbq on the tables which is worth a try if you are a meat eater. Would recommend this place for eating in or taking out

I ate here many ma y times, the food wonderful, that is tasty, delicious every time. The staff friendly every time as well. Waiting time very good. Have never yet had takeaway yet.

As far as looking for a Chinese restaurant in Leicester goes its very limited. However found this little gem situated on London road. Quite quirky and basic inside but don’t let that put you off. Came with family for a casual Chinese and it was decent! The food was lovely, and reasonably priced. The service was good, the staff were friendly. The only two things I picked up on was I’m pretty sure it wasn’t licensed so it was bring your own alcohol unless you wanted a soft drink, and for some reason you can’t pay with card at the weekends? Apart from that it was worth the money and I would go again.

Went there for dinner with a couple of friends. Great value for money, delicious food. I would recommend ordering from a 'black' menu which is for Chinese customers (more authentic dishes). Will be visiting again!

Those of you of a certain age may remember Chinese takeaway food being very different from today, different in so far as it hadn't been 'westernized', it wasn't full of sugar, lemon chicken had a subtle and delicious hint of lemon, unlike nowadays chicken drowned in lemon curd. This is like good old Chinese food before westernization, tasty, refreshing, interesting, original. This is the best take away we've been to in a very long time.

Delicious dishes, served by friendly smiling staff! ❤️ Visited once and have been going there almost every week now! Do try the Manchurian dishes - they are the best in town! And the best part - it doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket - most dishes at student rates!!

Authentic Chinese cooking, very clean and very tasty food.

Dont be put off with the interior of this resturant as the food is outstanding and exceeded our expectations. The service was great as we were adviced well on the dishes in accordance of how spicey we like our food. The prices were reasonable too.

Another hidden gem on London rd, but clearly well known among Chinese circles. Can easily be missed because of the small facade but once inside, it's surprisingly appealing. It's clean and well lit. What's quite eye catching is the grill and cooker installed on the tables! Turns out you can order satay and cook it yourself! Could have prawn,chicken, tofu, any satay you like really! I was too hungry for that but clearly it's quite popular. The menu is extensive. Has two different king prawn dishes which looked even better than on the menu. Enjoyed it thoroughly! What's more, you can even have Chinese beers well as other drinks that don't have a word of English on them it everyone seemed to enjoy them. Highly recommended!

Had two takeaways from here now. Very pleased with both. Cheaper than some of the more upmarket Chinese restaurants in the city, but nice food.

This is one of the new restaurants on London Road, although it looks more like a take away. It is very clean inside and the seating is comfortable. The menu is typical and its not different to any other Chinese place. Two main meals, two sides and two cans of drinks cost around £25, so it's not cheap for what it is!. The food did taste very nice but nothing that will make me remember this place from any other place. Staff members were very friendly and made me feel welcome so that was a real bonus. I feel like this place needs to stand out as London Road has some top end restaurants. I do not think they've done enough to last, but who knows?, if they make some changes and market themselves, it may just work.

Only having been open for about a month this place is struggling to find its feet. Nothing to do with the staff who are charming but there is so much competition at this end of town now. The decor is sparse and it feels more like a take away than a full blown restaurant, over lit with no ambience or mood, hardly the place for an intimate dinner for two.
