Food was ok. I had something vegan. It was very greasy due to too much oil. The quantity was more than sufficient. The lady at the counter had her cell phone on very loudly so that a voice could be heard, which was a bit disturbing. Service was friendly.

I ordered a plate of pine nut fish and two noodles here. The noodles were very delicious. The staff was very attentive and had the high quality and politeness of the Japanese. The kitchen served food much faster than in mainland China and Hong Kong, and even faster than in Shanghai. The one at Chenghuang Temple is much cheaper. If you were in Hong Kong at this price, you wouldn’t be able to eat at this level. It was a satisfying meal.

Piping hot food. Really nice too. Huge portions . We had set menu B. It defeated us, so much for two people. Would recommend.

We were told that there’s a 10 pound minimum per customer. This was not mentioned in the menu either and they refused to serve us our order unless we ordered 10 pounds per customer worth of food. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL

I have never seen a waiter wearing earpods while serving customers or taking orders. This is indicative of poor service.

We had hotpot from this restaurant, I enjoyed the food because I'm into spicy food and it was really spicy,but I didn't like the service and atmosphere, At first I thought the staffs were racists because they weren't even smiling nor interested to take the order, when I read the reviews here I understood it's the same with everyone, normally I don't give bad reviews to any restaurant if the staffs are good,but this was really disappointing

The food was very poor. Not enjoyable at all. Very greasy, oily, food smelled of dirty oil. Inedible sorry to say but expensive. Service charge compulsory. Definitely wouldn't return. The lady who served us was very friendly but missed off things we ordered.

Terrible experience! We ordered beef tongue on a sizzling plate but the tongue is very tough and can’t even chew! The staff ignores us even though we wave at them. We also ordered shrimps but they were small and stale! The shui mai is terrible, worse than frozen from a supermarket! It also is very stale with absolutely no flavor.

The service was awful, and the food lacked hygiene standards. 😡😡😡 DO NOT GO! During our visit with five people, we discovered debris resembling steel wool in the soup. Despite notifying the staff, they claimed we could only get a 5% discount because we were almost done with the soup. They mentioned other customers seeking discounts for various reasons. Even if we had found the debris earlier, they might have replaced the dish. Shockingly, they still imposed a 10% service fee! 😱 I pointed out the debris at the bowl's bottom, explaining we couldn't have noticed it sooner. Our goal wasn't to seek discounts, they offered discounts without us asking, and their service was utterly disappointing—rubbish service overall.

The food was really good, could not fault it. It came out fast was hot and really tasty would 100% go back just for the food. My only issue was the mens toilets were disgusting seemed to be used a storage space and were not clean.

Service and attitude are very bad! All of the waitresses showed us very bad faces while serving us. Waitress mistaken our order because they were wearing earphones while taking our order. They didn’t stick a notice outside that they have a requirement of minimum spend of £10 each person. This is ridiculous! What if people who has small apetite who can’t eat much? Even taking away the food has to charge us for the containers. This is why we can’t order much and spend at least £10 per person. Moreover, they didn’t even show us the receipt before paying. And suddenly there is an additional 10% of service charge which they claimed that we must pay for the service charge. They also said: “If you’re not satisfied with us, don’t ever come to our restaurant. We are not lacking customers!” Don’t ever come to this restaurant!!!

Worse food ever had to repeat our order 3 times if she would have taken her earphones out she may have understood what we wanted rude doesn’t even come into it wouldn’t recommend to anyone when we received our bill there was a 20% service charge 20% for what your rudeness when challenged about the 20% they said oh sorry we made a mistake it should have been 10% defo won’t be back,😤

Stopped in Manchester overnight so after a few drinks walked to china town with lots of choices to pick a restaurant. We went upstairs to this old fashioned Chinese restaurant where we decided after being unsure of what to choose we opted for the set meal B at £53 for 2. It was a feast in which there was far too much, firstly 2 hot & sour soups, 2 x quarters of crispy duck, 2 spring rolls, 2 samosas, sweet & sour king prawns, sizzling beef in black bean sauce, chicken with spring onions & ginger and finally yeung chow fried rice. It was all delicious & tasty, as we washed it all down with 2 tiger beers. They automatically charge you for service at 10%.

I ordered grilled fish, but when it was served, the fish was cold. There was a fire underneath that could heat it up, but the alcohol burner was only lit for less than 5 minutes before it went out. At that point, the fish was slightly warm, but still cold overall. When I brought this up with the staff, I was told that they would charge 2 pounds to relight the fire. It's ridiculous that I have to pay 2 pounds extra just to heat up a dish that was served cold in the first place. The fish was clearly not properly cooked before it was brought to the table. This is completely unacceptable service.

Ordered 1 dish, gave us 2 dishes, server won’t let us return it, proceeded to charge us twice the price for it. Food is also mediocre.

As in was only a visitor to Manchester, I wanted to visit the China town district, but unsure where I should eat, i unfortunately didn’t have the time to look at reviews, so it just luck I found this, it was very nice, not too busy so service was quick, food was freshly cooked and served nice and hot, I did not leave disappointed

Hands down the BEST Singapore noodles outside of Singapore I have ever eaten. My daughter had the tofu and mushroom hotpot and it too was excellent. Very reasonably priced and great service.

Had a lovely meal here. Ordered set meal A for two and couldn't fault it, was excellent. Service was good but waitresses could have been a bit more smartly dressed. Very casual and relaxed place. Would recommend.

Should have realised we weren’t in for a great night when we walked in. Lady not particularly interested. Had to ask for cutlery, received a fork. No chopsticks offered, we’re westerners. Odd. Had to ask for a plate. Had to ask for serviettes. Drink was warm. One dish was sitting on the bench for sometime before being brought to the table. It was no longer hot. Bill had tip added. Ummmmm…. Why???? This place does not deserve a tip. What a scam. Find somewhere else.

Went here with my friends. As soon as we sat down we were made to feel unwelcome. When we ordered we were made to pay before our drinks or meal were served to the point I paid 3.50 on the spot for prawn crackers. Terrible service and would not recommend.

Visited Manchester for Chinese New Year celebrations and thought we'd give this place a try. Queuing outside, then queued inside the small porch area. Probably 30 mins overall but Manchester was packed so to expected. We were seated right near the hallway door which was wedged open. I took my coat off but had to put it back on as it was freezing. My partner went to the till area and asked if they could close the door as everyone was cold. They weren't interested so she moved the wedge and closed it which they then re opened. Starters came out quickly but was literally dumped on the table, no enjoy your meal, smile, or any kind of customer service level. My main course came out with the same level of customer service as the starters. I was freezing and hungry so tucked straight in. I'd nearly finished mine but had to ask where my partners was as it seemed they'd forgotten, or thought she was abstaining from food. To be fair the food was tasty and hot. However the customer service was worse than a prison. The place was freezing and the staff treated customers like they'd walked dog muck into their restaurant. To cap it all off they charged me £4.10 service charge!!! I've never eaten anywhere in the world where I had to wear a coat indoors. Would I recommend or visit again? Never.

She claimed that she heard us even when we didn’t and questioned why we didn’t say it when the food arrived. We explained that we expected the extra toppings come separately and we add it in ourselves but instead it was all thrown into the pot, we don’t know what’s what and we had to guess most of them. The attitude of the waitress was quite bad. In the end we didn’t argue with her we just paid and left. I would definitely not come back or recommend anyone. Any random restaurant in China town can do better.

Manchester China Town is renowned for good service and good food, unfortunately this restaurant is a counterweight for that, having neither. The food appears to come out of the frozen section of the nearest Chinese supermarket, the taste even puts that into question. The service is delivered by people that don’t really want to be there and hovers between indifferent and downright rude. The Tsing Tao is passable.

Awful! Expensive food, not very good food. Never wanted alcohol so asked for a jug of tap water, ‘we don’t do jugs but can do glasses’. We were charged £1 per glass!! Really wouldn’t recommend this place.

Don’t bother going!!!! So where do I start, over priced, rushed our food and tried to take it away before we even finished ready for the next course (we had a banquet) the whole service from the staff was very poor! Didn’t want to be there attitude because we didn’t reuse our plates, sat at the back and we kept having to get there attention for things like soy sauce to go in our soup. Asked for Fanta (£3) but got some bright orange home brand type version. My 7 year old asked if he could take the chop sticks he’d been practicing eat with, they said no just wooden rough take away ones. Oh and the and almost £10 set charge on top, honestly there was no service here at all, was a complete conveyor belt with average food and poor customer service.

My go to place in Manchester for authentic, tasty Sichuan cuisine. Never disappoints. The fish grill is fab and very reasonable.

The sichuan dish we had was authentically spicy but still flavoursome. The other dishes were good too. The staff were friendly, so I think other reviewers may have been on a bad night

Very average food but for an expensive price. I had the spicy wonton and the shrimp dumplings. The wonton had a less than pleasant aftertaste from what was a strange chilli oil. Would not recommend.

Returned to Spicy City this weekend & tried a couple of new dishes. Had spicy noodles, mala hot pot & lamb with cumin. Noodles came first & were delicious with a nice texture. Hot pot came next - it wasn't a hot pot as such as was served in a bowl. Loved the punchy & bold flavours and it was filled with loads of interesting food items - prawns, mussels, tofu, meat balls, fish balls, crab sticks, kelp, black fungus, glass noodles, tripe, thin beef slices, straw mushrooms, cucumber & some other veg, and probably other things we have forgotten about! Lamb & cumin was nice & tender and well seasoned. It was just spicy enough and wasn't overpowering. All in all, a very satisfying meal after some time 😋😋😋😋 It was pretty busy when we were there with a steady flow of customers. Spicy City is one of my fave Chinese restaurants in Manchester alongside Hunan. Definitely recommend a visit!

Good traditional Chinese restaurant. Lots of options on the menu. Good atmosphere and good food.

Didn't get good service and had to wait too long for your menu, waited too long for someone to order, had our drinks delivered after the food was served, and had one of our dishes sent to the wrong table. This is not a very happy meal, if you have a lot of time to wait, then I recommend it.

Dropped in and ordered some food to take out, were assured the crab was fresh and not frozen. Got back to the hotel and on checking the boxes found the crab was basically empty of meat and obviously frozen NOT fresh. Shame as the menu had looked good.

I really love all you can eat hot pot and BBQ. It very delicious. It’s good value for money. drink is really cheap with all you can eat hotpot. Only 1 pound for a pint of coke. One of my favorite Chinese restaurant in Manchester.

Missed this place so much during lockdown and was concerned it wasn't going to survive but thank goodness it was open and part of the Eat Out scheme. We visited in the afternoon so wasn't too busy but some other diners came in after us. We ordered some old faves and a new dish. They were all delish though the peanuts & sauce in the noodles smelt a bit stale & the century egg portion in the tofu dish was reduced. The rich, punchy flavours which we missed are still there 😋😋😋😋 In terms of covid measures, staff wear face masks and details are taken for test and trace - this is in a log passed around so other diners would be able to see your details which isn't great. In terms of food, it's definitely a place in Chinatown which is recommended for tasty, authentic fare!

Worst Chinese cuisine experience I have ever had. Very little number of ingredients in a dish and chicken was definitely not fresh, dark and even black in some places. I regret not checking opinions before going there, there were plenty of other restaurants with better opinions and this one had bad opinion for a reason. I don't recommend and I'll never come back.

Really worst restaurant in Chinatown. They serve hotpot with other table's leftover meat! You know! The meat are obviously fresh on top and the bottom parts are darker, which is defrost and freeze again. Terrible! The waitress are also serve in a mood. Unacceptable.

Discovered this gem of a restaurant fairly recently and have been a few times. The mainland Chinese place we tended to visit was very busy so we chanced upon Spicy City and decided to try it. They serve a selection of hot & spicy dishes & also Cantonese fare. We have ordered a couple of different fish dishes and they have been generous, served with vegetables, tofu, lotus root and other ingredients. The flavours are great and much better than the other place we had been too. The tofu & bean curd dish is not as good as we have had elsewhere but the steamed chicken in chilli with cucumber cold dish was absolutely delicious. We have also tried a couple of different noodle dishes which were excellent. They do hot pots too though I have not tried this yet. The restaurant specialises in mainland Chinese dishes, so not Cantonese fare which most Brits associate with Chinese food. It's alot more authentic & the number of Chinese customers in the restaurant is testimony to the quality. The only negatives are the restaurant feels quite cold though the heating is on. Also there's a 10% service charge at the end. This is my go-to Chinese place at the moment; and is the first place I think of visiting most weekends :))) Give it a try! It's highly recommended!!
