Spicey Basil in City of London, Westminster

One of the worst customer service I’ve had in any establishment. I’ve been here many times, I never usually write reviews. After making a mistake on the order, I had to drive back half an hour to then be accused of falsifying (after spending £95). It was unbelievable, I was speechless at the exchange. I wasn’t even that upset until she accused me of rewriting the order saying I may have just added it in. It was my wife’s birthday, and soured the whole evening. I can’t believe the sheer disgruntled mess and attitude, I would have let it go if it wasn’t for the attitude and the accusations. I’ve been here many times. This is terrible.

I can’t believe this place only has 4 stars overall, it’s the best food ever, been going for 10+ years it’s never once disappointed. I normally get chicken pad thai but everything is 10/10

We always order take away. What I really like is the fact that the kitchen is visible to everyone, so you have 100% guarantee the food is fresh and the kitchen and cooks are maintaining high standards of hygiene. The food is delicious and we refer at lest 3 times a month It's a cash only restaurant, so make sure you have it ready when you go.

Awful customer service. “Vegetarian” dishes have fish sauce. The manager instead of taking responsibility or offering a substitute, in a loud voice mentioned, allergies have to be notified. Toilet hygiene is reflective of the attitude. Cash only, when I kept the paper bill, I was told they will give a VAT receipt.

Wanted to give it a try as word of mouth says it’s the best Thai in London. The place is uncomfortably small, not particularly clean or good looking. Service is poor. I wouldn’t care too much if the food was outstanding. I ordered dumplings and noodles. They are expensive, I’m no Thai restaurants expert but I had a chance to visit similar restaurants in central and west London more than once and those other restaurants felt, looked and tasted much better so in no way shape or form this can be the best Thai in London. My tummy was upset and I was sick for days after eating here so I guess their hygiene standards must be as poor as everything else.

I ordered online. Kung pao was advertised as bok choy, shitake mushrooms and tofu, whole reason I ordered. I got tofu, peanuts, and bell peppers(fortunately not allergic to peanuts). Also ordered seaweed salad which I didn't get but rather a regular salad. Won't be ordering from them again. Tasty but NOTHING I ordered

I ordered a delivery, according to the menu, it should have been £18.50 but they charged me £30. And the food wasn't great... Something gave me rampant diahorrea. I'm never going to est or tske out sgsin

We love the food here and have been going back again and again for years. Our favourite is pad Thai noodles, the stir fry sauce is delicious, the chicken and prawn dumpling also come with soya spring onion dressing and the fish cakes with sweet andcsour sauce go well with it

The sizes on the red curry for takeaway has gone down in portion size and the dumplings don’t taste fresh or tasty as they normally do for me. I have been coming to spicy basil since it first opened up and the owner was present and it was really good food & value for money for many years. I guess sometimes standards can fall as you’re getting busier and popular with food lovers. I hope that management read this and they can go back to good cooking quality authentic Thai food. Oh one of the main reasons I come here is generally because it’s authentic and I’ve been to Thailand many times and it reminds me going to a Thai street cafe. But the food lately hasn’t been as the quality I’ve been having for many years.

Awful food and to make things worse i found human hair in my rice... YUCK. I complained and the rice was taken away and replaced. I had lost my appetite at this point. The menu prices are not what you find online, its double the price. Go eat somewhere better with a better set up and ambience if you are paying over £10/12 for a main meal.

I feel a little sad to leave this review but I know it won't have any effect on the die hard spicy Basil fans. I have been a regular customer for nearly 10 years and have ordered every dish on the menu over the years. I think it's definitely time to call it quits, their standards have dropped and prices have gone up as expected but the most frustrating thing is how they mess up their very large and expensive orders every single time. I double check before I leave as there is always something they mess up on. More than two dishes and it's total chaos the communication is this place is diabolical. From the order on the phone to the kitchen it's lost in translation.

We ordered 3 mains and 3 starters and they came up to £49! I have been to spicy basil for years and have had affordable food. Their menu online continues to show these affordable prices. However when they arrived with the delivery they charged £49 cash only and gave no receipt! More so when I questioned it the delivery driver just said you have 3 meals here so that is the cost, saying the menu online is not their official website. Plus they took cash only, so no paper trace of the payment. Feels, smells and tastes like a scam! I used to love spicy basil but won't be going back after this!
