Fantastic Indian restaurant, very good menu. You won't find a better Indian restaurant in Conwy or Conwy County. Great food at a reasonable price, very friendly service and great atmosphere. Coupled with a very good proprietor Iqbel, who will explain to you about any of the dishes.

Had a wonderful meal food was abundant. Fairly priced.

Ordered a takeout an hour ago when it was delived it came without my order phoned up to enquire why my order was not there and was told quote 'did i wish to pick it up myself?!' Then was further told it would be delivered in two hours £60 pound order this is not acceptable in any wau shape or form and will not be ordering nor recommending such an incompetant business who not only didnt complete the order in one go but then had the front to ask me to pick it up myself despite paying for delivery

After a flight and three trains to Conwy, the dinner here really hit the spot and satisfied this tired and hungry couple. Smashed through my chicken tikka pilak and rice, it was delicious. Topped it off with coconut ice-cream. We were looking for an affordable dinner and you can certainly get some decent plates for the price here. Pleasant and friendly service that made our introduction to the town a very nice one. Cheers!

AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS. THEY ARE RACIST. This place should be shut down. Genuinely the worst experience i’ve ever had in a restaurant in my entire life, just read the rest of the bad reviews. Extremely inhospitable, the staff are so rude, more specifically the bald one. He was backbiting about us and making comments in his language (Bengali) thinking we would not understand, however we understood everything, as we speak the same language. Funny as we were sitting right there and knew exactly what was being said, he didn’t even try to hide it. We had no cutlery for so long, no water, no napkins. We watched as the staff offered politeness and hospitality to every other table, asking them if they need anything, but not ours. It’s a small restaurant, we were being ignored on purpose. Bear in mind we were the only asian customers at the time, backbiting about us and PLAINLY avoiding us was extremely racist, and that’s not an exaggeration. They were being nice to all the other customers (who were white) and laughing and joking with them. They even separated me and my family, which includes young children, onto two separate tables which was obviously a massive inconvenience. There were tables free but we weren’t allowed to sit. A kind couple OFFERED to give up their table for us and STILL the bald staff member refused. Eventually we sat anyway. We were massively overcharged, EIGHT POUNDS for POPPADOMS is ridiculous and that was NOT the price on the menu. I am tremendously appalled at the service we were given, if I could rate this place 0 stars I would. Absolutely disgusting, derogatory behaviour. Literally check every other bad review on here, they’re racist to their own kind, can’t even speak or understand English themselves. Avoid avoid avoid.

Cosy little restaurant. Different to what we are accustomed to but very clean and tidy. Good portion sizes don’t let the negative comments put you off. Everyone to their own. Recommend the lemon rice as a change. Good variety. Served very quickly. Staff very quiet but that’s their culture but found them all to be very pleasant and accommodating. The main thing is the food was tasty and piping hot. Would definitely recommend and I am fussy where I eat!!

Be careful call them before go there they are not reliable in timing, sometimes it’s really disappointed

Visited Conwy on Fri 24th June in our Motorhome for 1 night (2 people) We went to Saffron for meal. It was absolutely delicious, starter, main course and wine. Don't be put off by negative reviews as we nearly were. Glad we went. Pleasant atmosphere. The staff are a bit quite but that's their personality. I felt sorry for staff member as couple beside us were very very rude, arrogant and down right nasty, there's no question about it these 2 are regulars!! They should be barred..

Had to put one star on just so I could write this review, so the review is it’s a dive. Waiter didn’t know what any of the drinks we ordered even tho they was on the drinks menu 🤨 We asked what a Prawn Butterfri was and he replied “it’s a dry one!!!!” not sure what that meant! 🤷🏽‍♂️ We didn’t eat or drink here as we left while ordering! I’m Indian myself no way has it seen Indian food this place should be renamed Faulty Saffron! Absolute garbage 👎🏽

My Daughter and I ate dinner there on our trip to Wales in September. Owner was very nice as was the staff. Did all they could to accommodate us and other patrons. Food was delicious and we had a very nice time.

The atmosphere wasnt up to much had to ask for background music presentation of food wasnt the best but food was ok when it came wouldnt go back

Similar to most of the previous comments - nothing new to say. Never been to a restaurant and been gaslit over a naan bread before (.. definitely was not garlic!) Just poor overall.

This has to be the worse Indian food I have tasted. Tasteless, and no effort into making it....the garlic mushrooms came out of a can, slippery slugs. Out of 8 people we paid £187.., nobody had anything positive to say about there dishes. Service wasn't much nicer, as a local person living in the Conwy County, I do not recommend, save your money.

We have been regular dinners for many years and the last few years the head chef's food has been excellent and very consistent. The Onion Bhaji's are the best in the area and the Lamb Bhuna, Chicken Shashlik are great dishes.

Coming from West Yorkshire, thought we'd come out and try local halal places. Got turned away so rudely by the large lady with glasses on and her clueless sidekick who deffo got a punch from her after we left, he didn't know what day it was. She blocked us from even coming in and looked at us like she'd never seen people with the same skin colour as her before (yeah you read that right, very strange behaviour). We rang beforehand and she told us to come in 30 minutes. We came after 10 and were happy to wait bc she already told us how long the wait was when we called. Takeaway wasn't even full but apparently the empty tables had been booked ?? Regardless, were still happy to wait. She basically told us to go and not to wait. We were not wanted. Hate to say it but don't know how they've not been racially abused as the area is predominantly white and she knew very little English. Whatever was said was said with a lot of attitude for someone who looks like that. She’s lucky I was with my parents, otherwise I most definitely would have given her an overdue reality check.

Food was reasonable, and tasty, adequate service

I don’t understand the poor reviews — the food was great, the service was great (got me an extra napkin, water, and asked if we were ready for our main course). They obviously took the criticism well and incorporated much better service. 10/10 great food!

The food was just so bad, from someone whose a foodie, this is probably the worst curry I've had. We asked for lamb but it felt like rubbery beef what we got, the sauce was probably out of a tin whilst the nan was hard. Couldn't even finish it as if was really difficult to get through, would not recommend

This place was awful unfortunately it was the only restaurant that was available so we had no choice but to go.First off we were squeezed in between tables where there wasn’t much space at all which was quite uncomfortable.The waitress wasn’t helpful at all and got our order wrong we had to correct her about 5 times till she understood what we were saying.The service was awful.We waited about 35 minutes for our food to come,which wasn’t even nice.We noticed a couple next to us having garlic naan so we asked for that too but she came and gave us a plain naan and when we told her we asked for garlic she got extremely defensive and said u have to ask for the garlic specifically and barged off. Also started to notice indirect racism since we’re Asian we noticed the chef was talking to everyone and making jokes with everyone-who were all WHITE-but us.we didn’t get a thank you or goodbye,they seemed quite annoyed at us since we entered.They cleaned our table immediately when we weren’t finished don’t know why that was quicker than the service??Not coming here again they are a very racist restaurant didn’t even want to give it a 1 star.

An insult to Indian cuisine to be honest, my partner and I went there as it was the only place still serving food late. We didn't really eat much of the food - it looked like tinned vegetables in a shop bought sauce. No flavour. Not fresh. Workers were a bit rude. We were seated next to the bar and the waiter was leaning over us - no privacy to have a conversation at all! It was like having three of us at the table. When we paid, he was cheeky for a tip, acting as if he didn't know about the change to give and asking was it a tip when it clearly wasn't. The best part of the meal was the after 8 mint at the end. The food was really bad, I'd struggle to rate it as a 2 it would get a 1 purely because it was food. We went to the local Spar to get snacks after our restaurant experience. Don't go here.

Managed to get a table for 2 without booking. Lady took our order but all very rushed. Starters came out all ok so far. We ordered chicken korma and lamb tikka masala. Received chicken tikka masala and vegetable korma. Cheese Nan ordered received a dried up garlic/plain Nan couldn’t tell the difference. Asked about the cheese Nan was told cheese was in it. How ridiculous. Vegetable korma was replaced with a chicken korma clearly microwaved because the steam coming off it was unreal and my husband burnt his mouth. Told them about my chicken tikka masala nothing was done. Asked for the bill and it came with lamb tikka masala on it! Yet served me chicken and didn’t see the problem! They removed the lamb tikka masala charge. Everything in here is a rush no wonder they made at least 3 mistakes with our meal. First visit and last visit. Would not recommend. Staff don’t know how to deal with customers

Excellent food very good service highly recommend

The service was pleasantly urgent. I can imagine if you like to take your time it could be a tad distracting but the staff were friendly and happy to wait 2 minutes when asked. I'd rather have fast service then have to try to grab their attention. The food was lovely and well priced and certainly not like some of the harsher reviews I saw before coming.

Looks like a standard modest Indian restaurant but can't fault the food at all, was served by a very friendly waiter and decent portions aswell as having Cobra on tap

Didn't start off well with flat lemonade which they refused to accept to the extent of getting my sister in law to see the new bottle of cheap lemonade.. Flat's Flat mate. Clearing table while my wife was still eating, rude or what.Did not ask for the bill as we were still drinking but this was just plonked under my nose without a word. Would we go back - not on your life.

Ate here in a pinch. Server said yes when I asked if they had vegan options; then later asked if we could eat ghee. No smile, very ambivalent. Maybe she is just very shy? Didn’t understand my order so we didn’t get the one meal we ordered, just the two side dishes. They were ok. The place didn’t look clean. There was food on the bench next to me, and the window blinds were covered in dust and food particles.

Very polite and helpful service, friendly staff, good beer (Cobra on tap). The curry was excellent. Would definitely visit again, highly recommend.

Staff very friendly and helpful, recommended just the right dishes (indeed the naga had spice and flavour) food was lovely especially the nan bread , recommended , Sunday after Pirate festival and made these two tired sailors feel saited , happy and welcome- thank you!

Rude customer service,the server was eating While severing! And was racist

I wish I could use zero for the rating or negative. On Monday evening (4th April, 2022), my wife and myself went and asked for soup and one starter. But one guy from the restaurant told us either order 2 main dishes or just leave now ( Chole jaw) and the tone was very rude.

We always return here. Family run. Food great, very friendly staff. A cosy little retreat after a day out in Conwy. My husband loves the vindaloo. The garlic naan is a must!!

The only empty Indian restaurant we could find at 7pm that did not require reservations. Food was not up to the mark. The lamb biryani did not have much flavour although the lamb did taste good.

I had the Goan chicken curry which was really tasty and the portion was more than enough for me. The decor is a bit dark and dated but the food more than made up for that.👍

Just had a cracking take out, excellent service fair prices and friendly staff, food was as tasty as you like, couldn't fault it . Blooming lovely that's why I go at least once a month.

We arrived with trepidation due to other reviews but had a lovely meal. Cobra on tap was fresh and crisp and a nice surprise as used to getting bottled lager. Curries were piping hot and tasty. Definitely recommend murghi chicken and meat curry. So rich and tender. I am one of those people who sometimes feels a bit iffy after a curry, but felt perfect all night (a glowing recommendation). We also had biryani, bhaji, chick peas. Bhajis a bit oily (if I had to be critical), which isn't to everyone's taste, but I like that. Great evening and the hosts know their stuff. Went with partner who echoes my opinions. This was a Thurs eve.

Delicious meal came out savouring all the flavours on my pallette. Would highly recommend 👍👍

Went with my husband and sister, who lives locally, for an evening meal after a day out in Conwy. The food was excellent with lots of choice and we had a lovely meal together. Service was excellent and we would highly recommend. Also does takeaway orders so my sister will make use of this in the future!

Never felt compelled to leave a bad review but people should know the food served in this restaurant is unworthy to be charged money for. It was absolutely tasteless, watery, and even the rice was chewy and the poppadoms were oily. There is no way in hell this food can possibly be fresh. It must surely have been frozen from days previous. During the meal a customer returned to the restaurant to tell the owner that whilst he has been coming to the restaurant every year they visit Conwy.."the way we were treated tonight was absolutely disgusting". No apology was given. Following the meal half of my family had dodgy stomachs. Do not trust the food these people are serving. Peace and love.

If all you want is basic Indian food which meets the bare minimum of simply existing on a plate in front of you, that's fine - I imagine Saffron will cure what ails you. If you want any other aspects of visiting a restaurant - such as quality food; friendly staff; speedy service; immersive atmosphere - essentially the aspects which make visiting a restaurant an enjoyable experience as opposed to a function of pure utility, then Saffron is not the place to be. The food is so-so at best, while the staff's demeanours range from rude (silent scowls and scarcely-concealed eye rolls) to downright manipulative ("Oh, that particular order you made almost an hour ago takes a long time to make, so that's why it's not here yet! However, now you've brought it up, I can coincidentally present it to you at once. Not that we forgot or anything"). We had a good laugh, hence the extra star on the rating, but sadly we were laughing at Saffron rather than along with it.

Lovely fresh food... Nicest curries we had in a long time.

Absolutely awful treatment by the waiters. We booked a table for 6 adults and 2 children. As soon as we arrived they told us that they have another booking soon and we need to be quick in order to accommodate the group that will follow us. They rushed getting our orders like we were inconveniencing them. They were speaking Bengali amongst themselves and did not realise that we understood what they were saying about us (we are Bengali ourselves), making comments saying we will never leave. They clearly wanted us out and to rush us in order to get their table back. Just to note that no group of 8 came an hour later and other big grouped tables had left, allowing them to take walk ins. They also had no issue talking to other non Asian tables, making jokes and smiling with them. However, not once did anyone speak to us, make any effort with us and the only time we was spoken to was to rush an order from us. They started clearing the table whilst others were still eating including children who understandably are a bit slower. As soon as the last person stopped eating, they gave us the bill without us even requesting it. In terms of the food, it was extremely basic and bland. Had not much flavour and the butter chicken especially was certainly NOT butter chicken, they just put a load of red food colouring in. They got a drink completely wrong and missed things from the order that we specifically requested. Certainly would never ever return. 0 stars if I could

Me and my family went to this restaurant the first night we were in Wales on holiday. They are Bengali, just like us, same dialect spoken and all. They were incredibly rude to us. They thought we weren't Bengali so couldn't understand them, but we could and heard them complain to each other about us as soon as we got in that they think we will take a long time to order and "will never leave" their restaurant. They rushed us to order, rushed us to clear out and never said anything pleasant to us as we were leaving when we could clearly see how friendly they were with every other customer (all of whom were white, nothing wrong with that of course, just explaining why we think they were self-hating and only want white people there so are super friendly and nice to only white people). To everyone else it was all "thank you, please come again", to us we didn't even get Thank yous. We weren't ever rude to them or said anything, I don't get why they had such an issue. I was even smiling at them and trying to be friendly (I was carrying a 1 yr old so that usually helps) in an attempt to help but they didn't smile back or try really at all to be friendly. They very much made it super clear they wanted us gone, clearing up as soon as some of us were done, no one else was treated that way and other people were sitting at their table longer than us. There was no one waiting for our table so I don't understand the rush. We've come to believe that they want only white people at their restaurant despite us also being the same ethnicity as them. The food was OK at best. The butter chicken was awful and NOT authentic. The rest of it needs stronger flavour and more salt, it tasted much tamer than it should have. London Indian restaurants are definitely better.

Rude staff, couldn't bring out correct meals to the right tables food wash lukewarm when it did come we ordered 5 poppadoms 3 plain ones and 2 spicy they brought out the 3 plain ones and had to wait another 10 mins for the spicy ones and they kept us waiting 4 our table that we booked for about 10 minutes before they even got us to sit down I work in the hospitality and catering industry myself and the service my family and I and a family friend received to day was poor not even worth 1 star and my mum and I both have dietary needs and they didn't even ask if any of us have any dietary needs if we every come back to Conwy we won't be coming back to this restaurant every again isn't worth going

This place is grim. I had a vegetable korma which was overly sweet, it was almost inedible and consisted of potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, peas and sauce. My friend had the lamb tikka masala and said the lamb was as tough and compared it to eating a flip flop! Stay well clear of this place and try elsewhere if you want a tasty meal

Food is good and staff but cry out loud £3.90 for bowl of rice !! Sneeky Otherwise would give 4*

We reserved our a table for 9 pm and travelled around 40 miles to eat and when we reached they refused to take us in and told "We don't take INDIANS" Worst management staff. Do not recommend this restaurant.

The WORST Restaurant ever. The manager was RACIST!!! Very rude and threw us out of the restaurant! Booked us the table, made us wait for 45 minutes and then refused to accommodate us. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR!!!!! Me and my family went there and we were told it was takeaway only, when we had booked a table shortly before arriving. The person at the door was very rude and made a racist comment saying: We do not want any indians! This is absolutley disgusting behaviour and my family and I are absolutely appauled by this! We have not experienced any form of racism anywhere else in this area and this completely took us by surprise! Needless to say this place will never be visited again by my family or anyone I know and I hope you all can share this and make the management aware of this!

Only small restaurant but the food was lovely, I'd recommend the place to eat when visiting Conwy, they know how to make a chicken pathia, it was definitely one of the best I've had.

Very poor takeaway. Garlic mushrooms very average,mixed kebab the same. Nice sauce though. Very small nan bread but it was nice. The curry was awful. Very sweet and very watery. The chicken looked like pre cooked garbage from Iceland and tasted awful. Very disapointed as we had great food when it was The Raj. Won't be ordering again.

My go to Indian, food is always excellent, never had a complaint, if your in Conwy The Raj is worth a visit.

I went to The Raj with a friend two nights ago and we were both really impressed with the food. We live in Birmingham and are very used to eating curries, but somehow the food we had at The Raj just seemed a cut above a lot of curries you eat out. The curries, the pilau rice with them and the onion bhaji all both tasted and looked like real care had gone into crafting them. The food all tasted great in a far more interesting way than a lot of generic curries you can get. It was rich and balanced in flavour. There was a generous amount of meat in the curry sauce. The food looked great and was really nicely presented. It just felt like real care and knowledge had gone into preparing our dinner! The restaurant itself doesn’t look anything fancy, so we were both very pleasantly surprised to get such high-class food! I’m really surprised by the negative reviews on here, as I’d have no hesitation in recommending anyone in the vicinity of Conwy to give this place a try… Five stars on the strength of how good the food was!

Was not impressed with the food, chicken korma ,the chicken bits very chewy. The naan bread, it was not freshly made. It was the same naan that you get from a supermarket and you put it in the oven, it was very chewy. Been there before for takeaway and I was not impressed then but thought I would give it another chance. I won't be going there again. Normally spend about around £50 family for takeaway.
