Lovely curry, bhajis as big as a child’s head

My dad is a regular here (both dining in and takeaway) and sometimes I’m lucky and he brings me along too! Best Indian restaurant in Hertfordshire! Food and service is always amazing. Rakib is fantastic and always makes sure to get our order right including my dad’s special curry with extra potato! Great offers on at the minute too!

Arrived at an empty restaurant asked for a table for 2 . Have you a booked ? Most anemic Indian food ever absolutely no flavour including lack of basic seasoning like salt an pepper . I ordered most of their staters and was very disappointed especially with their chicken tika was a million miles away from an authentic tika . Special fried rice was like uncle bens served in a breakfast bowl . Why does this restaurant get worse every time it changes owners. 25 years I’ve been coming here trying to support local businesses but this is not any where near authentic Asian food . Despite being in a completely empty restaurant we where rushed with our food and if anything was dropped on the table cloth the over zealous staff were over brushing the table as we where trying to eat . I have to say this is the worse Asian restaurant I’ve been at sorry to say .

Yesterday again we visited spice rouge ex as always the food was excellent. The spice rouge ex is a wonderful restaurant, beautifully decorated, fabulous menu with a huge choice of absolutely excellent dishes, specially railway and gunpowder. staff are super professional I’d totally recommend to anyone who enjoys Indian food, it’s delicious.

Food looked promising when starters arrived Onion bhaji impressive, but both prawn starters were pretty tasteless! Main meals were just ok. The service was a little hit and miss But have to agree with other reviews Slightly shocked at the bill ( expensive ) and we'd been charged for a takeaway container and condiments! 😟

Food was really nice. I was thrown off by the onion bhajee being one massive one rather than a few smaller ones and they forgot my naan. However the food tasted really good and was hot when it arrived.

chicken vindaloo-the sauce was like a bath and chicken dipped in it.didnt feel like it was cooked in the curry.potato was hard,it should have been soft and melting

Had a wonderful takeaway from Spice Rouge. Very tasty. Very fresh. Competitive prices. Can recommend the chicken dansak and chicken biryani, was lovely. Perfectly spiced. Proper chicken pieces. Never used the restaurant before but certainly will do in the future.

Please cut back on the oil and push more on the flavour, it didn’t really taste of anything.

Food really tasty, but could’ve of been a bit warmer.

Food late only thing that was hot was the curry, chicken was dry sauce very oily, read lots of good reviews, but not very good for us shame.

Chicken Manchurian few pieces of chicken had stale smell spoiling the dish had to throw it.. ordered after many reviews but was really bad.

First time using Spice Rouge. Most of food was nice. Had Murghi Massalam, Sag, Biryani and a Naan. All tasty but the Biryani was far hotter than the other two dishes but supposed to be 'medium' spiced. One minor point - the Murghi should have had minced lamb, but it had diced lamb. Still nice but a different dish. Will order again but definitely not a Biryani.

Popular and tasty Indian. The signature dishes are the enormous onion bhajees, gunpowder and railway curries. I always enjoy all the food in Spice Rouge. The beer selection could be more interesting, it's bottled Cobra or Kingfisher but the wine is reasonable and good. Just writing this makes me hungry for a gunpowder. I completely recommend this lovely, clean local curry house.

Staff friendly & efficient, food was nice meat soft and succulent. However, onion bhaji one of our usual favourites soft in the middle getting crispier towards to outer surface … this onion bhaji was unbelievably huge, rather than 3 normal sizes … it had completely raw large thick onions inside with a very thin crisp outer layer. I’ve never seen or cut anything like it, I wouldn’t say it was enjoyable atall unless you like raw warm onions. Apart from that it would have been five star

Love this restaurant! Definitely at the top of my list. I've been a few times with friends and family, my kids love eating there too. Friendly, courteous staff, beautiful food and a cosy intimate restaurant. Pricing is reasonable too. Well done guys and look forward to the next visit!

This is a game changer . Been going to the restaurant in stevenage since 2011 and is by far the best restaurant in Herts . This is t as good as the shop but still smashes all of our local Indians out the park .

The Spicy food give me fantastic feeling. It was very great foods. Specially as gun powder it was super sufficient quantity The pulse rice was fragrant and fluffy .Kind staffs, good india music and atmosphere.

This has to be the BEST meal I have ever tasted!! I ordered the onion bhajee starter, then the chicken pasanda with pilau rice. The bhajee was the BIGGEST and the most flavoursome I have EVER had….it was huge….but delicious. The chicken pasanda was beautifully cooked, creamy and mild. The rice was fragrant and fluffy. With a lovely soft and hot chapati. All delivered SO QUICKLY and well packaged. I will gladly recommend this restaurant.

Really nice curry house, best take away in the area. I've been to the one in Stevenage and really liked so gave this one a try. Will definitely return.

We had dinner here today and we made the booking at last moment and despite having the closing time of 11 PM, they booked us in and made us feel welcomed when we arrived. The food was delicious though the manchurian is not like the manchurian we expect as Indians but it was a tasty curry. The service was good and they were attentive and smiley. Overall, good experience.

Our first time to spice rouge express the new indian restaurent and certainly won't be our last. Service was exceptional, the food was amazing, the best curry we've had in a very long time. Our sister in law is from Calcutta and said the bread was just perfect, as was her curry! Great value too, spice rouge express comes highly recommended, you'll not be disappointed!!

I never seen the size. I visited the new restaurant last Saturday with my wife because some of my local friends recommended to me very strongly . I got really nice food service and environment . Come back soon

It had a hard act to follow (this place used to be the Muri) but it was just as good. They have all the usual standards + some unusual and interesting dishes. Everything we had was delicious. Service was friendly and unhurried and it was good value for money. I booked to go back again while we were there. We have other Indian restaurants nearer to home but it's well worth driving the extra few miles.
