Spice of India in Moray

Decided to eat in while we were on holiday in Dufftown abs lots of other people had recommended. I had mixed Tandoori grill - beautifully fresh & generous! Husband had chicken madras with rice & naan - all very good. Lovely staff & good value too …. there’s only 2 takeaways in town but these guys are not complacent & delivered top food

Brilliant food - was really impressed with this place did not expect such satisfying grub from such a small town. 10/10 so good we went twice during a 3 night stay.Vegetarian options were very satisfying, lamb was nice and tender, chicken tikka had a really nice marinated flavour all the sauces were rich and tasty. Great selection of naans and rices and great size of portions. Next time we’re in town we’ll be back!

Went here after looking at options around town and we were not disappointed sat in and ordered our meal we had popadoms then mixed pakora starter and onion bajies followed by Reagan josh curry and passandra curry nan bread and rice and could not fault any of it service was quick and easy too will return when in area

Stayed in Dufftown and fancied some spicy food. We placed an order and the food was freshly prepared with in 25 minutes. The mixed grill and chicken massaman curry was nice. Due to Covid we chose to have a takeout they were busy with orders and still gave a good service. If you fancy a curry I would happily recommend this restaurant

We have not visited this restaurant for some time but were very regular customers when it was the same owner in Keith . Syed is the best host/owner you could wish for. Always willing to please and goes the extra mile.I only wish he would open a takeaway in Fochabers.The food was ,as always, delicious and even after travelling 18 miles it was still yummy. The pakora was crispy and we all had a different dish which we enjoyed

The best and tastiest take away in Dufftown. The staff,food and service are hard to beat. Just a pity they don’t do delivery.

We had a delicious meal (set menu - loads of food!). Both the manager and waitress were friendly and attentive. Restaurant is small so probably best to book but mid-week it was quiet. Thoroughly recommend.

Good choice on menu. Went with a picky eater and everyone in our group of 6 highly satisfied. Very filling food with plenty of meat and tasty sauces. Friendly and safe service. Very welcoming, highly recommended. We will be back on our next visit up North.

Well we’re all sat here, barely capable of moving or talking after enjoying a tremendous Indian banquet courtesy of Spice of India. We ordered a wide range of starters and mains including Lamb Rogan Josh, Butter Chicken, Chicken Dansak, Chicken Korma, Saag Paneer (ordered off menu), aloo chat, amongst others. Feeding five, it could easily have stretched to eight, at a cost of £64. We all enjoyed our food immensely, a Spice of India indeed.

Finally got a sit down indian after covd restitutions lightened. Great choice on menu . Great staff . Highly recommended A+++++++

Booked a meal in the Spice of India in Dufftown after lockdown finally easing up. The food was great and 5 star service from the friendly staff, they make you feel very welcome. Would highly recommend going here now lockdown is ending.

Called in for takeaway due to coronavirus. Prices are very reasonable and food was very tasty. Ordered too much, but enjoyed everything. Pakoras, samosas, chicken tikka karahi. Poppadoms were crisp and fresh, and the peshwari nan was excellent. Service was friendly and we will be coming back again soon.

We eat here about once a month, never had a complaint, Thursday evening you have a three course meal plus poppadoms and dips for under £15 per head, just great value and the food is superb. This is my favourite place to eat and you should go there... Try poppadoms with relish tray, the Tandoori mixed starter, Then..keema pilau rice chicken tikka karahi. followed by ice cream all for under £15 !! you will love it...They are doing take away only during the coronavirus season !

We went as a party of 11, we hadn’t booked. They couldn’t have been more accommodating. The food was really good. The service was fantastic the Menu is vast Who though you would be able to get an omelette or Kebab at an Indian. Our son didn’t come as he doesn’t eat Indian. We took him back a kebab and he loved it. Highly recommend

Drove a 40 minute round trip to get a takeaway from here after reading good reviews but the food was average and portion size was really bad. Pakoras and chilli dipping sauce was good but the kebab meat was crispy, the chips didn’t taste fresh, the naan bread was under cooked and we didn’t get a drink with our deal

We really enjoyed our meal here. Good size portions and authentic food. We will return. Very good value for money. We were surprised at the bill.

This was a Monday night in November and very few places were open so we headed for the Spice of India. We were the only ones in the restaurant which is normally not a good sign but it must just have been a quiet night because the food was lovely. We had the set meal for two with pakora and then had chicken chasni and chicken pasanda (I think!). The rice and plain naan were very good too. The staff were friendly and chatty and we really enjoyed our visit.

I have eaten at Spice of India many of times. It’s absolutely fantastic, staff are great. Cannot fault this place at all. Regularly get a takeout from here and it is always cooked in great time. Fantastic value for food. One of the best Indian restaurants I have ever visited.

Freundliches und leckeres Restaurant mit sympathischem Ambiente. Wir hatten das Menü für 4, 4 verschieden Starter und Menüs. Wir waren alle satt und sehr zufrieden. Kann ich sehr empfehlen!

Had a pleasant meal on a quiet evening in Dufftown. Good service and good value food. Highlights were the tandoori prawns and and an excellent southern Indian curry. Good value beer and wine and complimentary coffees and chocolates.

Staying near on holiday we thought we'd try this restaurant as both myself and my husband like a good indian meal.This didn't disappoint. We chose the fixed menu for 2 at a price if £32.85 which for 2 was good. This includes poppadoms and pickles, starters, 2 mains, 2 rice and a naan bread. Husband had a pathia and I chose a meal from the specials part of the menu. Neither dish disappointed and we're really tasty. Needless to say we walked out of the restaurant absolutely stuffed. Would definitely go back if we were in the area again

We dropped in mid-week and it was fairly quiet inside - usually a warning sign in the middle of summer, however we were not disappointed. Great service and great food - loads of flavour and simply but effectively presented. We will be back

I often have Indian as it’s one of my favourites. Staying locally I was pleased to find an Indian restaurant in town.

Wir waren zum Dinner hier und haben uns diverse Starter bestellt incl. Papadam mit 4 leckeren Saucen/ Chutneys. Die Starter waren durch die Bank alle super lecker. Nicht weniger lecker war mein Hauptgang, ein Hähnchengericht (Chicken Tikka Karab) in einer würzigen , nicht zu scharfen, dicklichen Soße; yummy.

Just had one of the most amazing Indian Meals ever. Starters were so flavoursome and there was plenty of it too. Main course is so hard to describe as it had so many lovely flavours, was cooked to perfection and again it was not scrimped on.

Passing through Dufftown enroute for Home we found this lovely Indian Restaurant- the food was excellent quality served by lovely member of staff

After getting sick and tired of eating burgers and fried food for the last few days we were craving some spicy food. We were so happy to find the Spice of India. The friendly owner helped us pick two delicious curries and we also got some rice and naan bread. You can either sit down or order it to take away (like we did). All in all, very happy with this delicious food!

Was staying for a night in dufftown and walked from my accomodation over to 'Spice of India' and was greeted with very friendly staff althogh the resturant was empty! Ordered drinks, poppadoms and mains and realised the resturant was busy but all with people picking up takeaway orders, the food came out quickly and was absolutely lovely. It was tasty, hot and plenty of it. Staff were more than happy to give me a doggy bag for left overs. Great find in a very small town.

Not much choice in the area. Some dishes very good, some very plain. Bit cold in the restaurant, no other guests (winter and midweek). Okay food, not spectacular.

Bought 2 takeaways last night,they were so tasty.Staff so friendly.Was our 2nd choice of restaurant after being told the first one was closing due to snow!!! They did us a favour.!!!! Can highly recommend this restaurant

Overall a very nice experience, food was very good service was spot on, Cash only on the night I visited, might of just been a one-off, can’t comment on the wash room as I didn’t visit it. If your in the area and want a good Indian I’d definitely give this one a visit.

Viisted for takeaway, and was very impressed. The menu has the usual fare, with the addition of some speciality dishes. The portions were generous, and reasonable value. The food was well balanced with spice and flavour.

We ordered a range of traditional dishes as takeaway. As big fans of Indian, none disappointed. A great Indian, especially for an out of the way location like Dufftown. I'm not putting it up with my local fav Indian way back here in Rose Bay, Aus, but absolutely nothing to complain about in terms of quality!

Great to have this excellent restaurant in Dufftown. Always made so welcome by the owner and the food is excellent. As someone else has said nothing is too much trouble for them. It’s not a problem that they don’t take card payments as there is an ATM across the road.

Nice food at reasonable prices. Generous portions. Only drawback is that they do not accept credit card.

The food this restaurant serves tastes like a good home cooked meal made with love and care. The friendly owner is more than dedicated and takes his time to entertain his guests. It's more than vegetarian friendly and has some interesting signature dishes.

Have been staying in the Dufftown area for a week now and have tried different venues. Fancied an Indian meal one night. Its average.

Have eaten here a few times. Great service, and in the main the food has been as good as expected. The layout isn't great with take-away customers coming in to the middle of the premises.

A very good little curry house. Good choice of all the usual curries and a few specialty ones too. The restaurant is bright, modern and clean. We went on a Thursday banquet evening and the set meal deal was excellent value for money. If you are in the area and fancy a good curry, this is worth a visit.

We had a much needed curry in the spice of India on a wet cold Saturday night in February, the venue was empty (Dead in fact), the heating wasn't up to much hence they had electric heaters in there.

I booked a party of 17at the end of November, all staff from the Keith and Dufftown railway, we had a brilliant meal, they say "you can't please everyone" but this resteraunt certainly did, everyone thought the food was superb and I have now been asked to make this a regular event. This has to be one of the best places to eat in the area, I cannot recommend it enough, and Thursdays have a special 3 course deal for under ,15 pounds per head. Go there !!

A nice change from pub food! Spice of India had a lovely, bright decor and a quiet table for a casual, unhurried meal. We were in on a weeknight with a few other diners, and enjoyed the dine-in experience, but also saw a regular stream of people picking up orders to go! We appreciated the numerous vegetarian options available, and our meal was fantastic! Our server was helpful with answering questions and making recommendations. Generous portions, good value for money!

I was having a chicken Rogan Josh and garlic Nan I got what I was asking for and more the curry was very tasty and Nan was big a crisp the way I like it would recommend it to anyone

The food was ok and the prices acceptable, The staff there were very pleasant and keen to help. Its a pity more people do not use the place.

The special kebab is donner meat, salad, spicy sauces, slow roasted onions and all sorts of yummy stuff wrapped up in a freshly cooked naan bread. Heaven. Half for tea and half for breakfast or lunch next day :-)

We have had a few takeaways and always enjoyed the flavours of the dishes. We had a meal in the restaurant for a family birthday celebration and despite problems with their electricity we all enjoyed delicious meals and a friendly service

This was the only place open for dinner on a weeknight at 9 pm in Dufftown. We were living in the adjacent town and called beforehand to make sure they would be open - the owner reassured us that they were open till 11 pm. Nice ambience- the owner made us comfortable by taking our umbrellas and offering us a place next to the heater. Food itself was delicious- we had the chicken tikka masala and a vegetarian gravy dish- both were quite nice. The dal was good too. We even were offered warm hand towels to wipe our hands after the meal was over.

Really enjoyed the dishes and will become a regular stop when in Dufftown. Karahi Special was my favorite.

We liked the menu when we first saw it. Curried duck for example. Well cooked, excellent service and good prices. Thanks. Would recommend.

This has to be the worst Indian meal I have ever eaten. The tandoori chicken entree was dry and overcooked with no charring on the outside. Looked and tasted more like oven cooked rather than a hot tandoor. The 2 curries we chose were very sweet and tasted like they had added sugar. One was so red it looked like a commercial tomato sauce with extra suger. We couldn't eat much of either dish. The kashmiri naan was dry and tasteless. They should be ashamed to represent their gastronomic culture.

The food is simply great! Loved the choice of rice varieties and nan breads. But the waitress just seemed to hate her job and couldn't be bothered to pay attention - or lay the table without grabbing the cutlery at the tips.

Called in for lunch today at 1.15 it was empty the hoover was out the waitress had her back turned to us talking to someone in the back she eventually turned around with a an empty look on her face I asked her if they were open she said that they shut at 2pm so we would have to have order what we wanted straight away, what she wanted to say is i'm not really bothered I just want to go home, you know that meal everything comes together standing there watching you so we just walked out.

Visited for lunch. Surprised they did not have a business lunch as most Indian restaurants offer so had to chose from the main menu. The starters of Pakora and poppadoms with various condiments were good as was the filled nans however chicken korma sauce was far too thick as was the tikka. The waitress was very pleasant.

This restaurant serves indian and Bangladeshi cuisine. We tried a couple of Indian dishes and I was surprised with my big experience travelling often to India, that outside of India there is nice food like that....

Very good food, the owner advised us on what to take. Even made a cheaper suggestion to a meal we ordered. Would come back!

Das Ambiente im Restaurant ist, wie fast überall in Großbritannien, nicht sonderlich gemütlich, aber man wird durch eine sehr freundliche Begrüßung und prompten Service entschädigt. Wir hatten Ppadoms, Onion Bhaji, Butter Chicken und Lamb Tikka Karahi mit Reis und Naan und waren vom Geschmack und der Zubereitung der Speisen sehr begeistert. Absolut empfehlenswert!!!

I ordered a Butter Chicken and it was at best average. The 2 other dishes we ordered was simply to spicy, although we asked for medium spicy and it just destroyed the taste.

Wow, great food in both sit down and takeaway, very good menu, reasonable priced, very attentive, love it, will be going back, open lunch time as well, spoilt for choice.

We visited for the Wednesday night buffet, not extensive by any means but delicious, a choice of 3 starters plus salad and 4 curries, including a veggie option, plus rice and Bombay potatoes with naan bread served to the table. Pleasant friendly staff added to a very pleasant evening. Highly recommend.

Niet druk, zeker wel aan te raden. Het is een nog niet lang geleden nieuw geopend restaurant. Hoop dat het blijft bestaan.

De keuze in Dufftown is beperkt tot van alles 1. Indiaas eten in een wat sfeerloze zaak. De kaart is een take away versie van de chinees. De gerechten zijn smakelijk en de porties zijn meer dan voldoende. De wijnkaart is verrassend tegen leuke prijzen. Al met al geen verkeerde keuze.

What a pleasant surprise. Called in at teatime Sunday, restaurant quiet but plenty takeaways being ordered- the locals obviously like it. Staff were pleasant and helpful and our meal was superb. The pakora were fresh, crisp and light. The nan bread was light and obviously freshly made and the main meal was delicious, each dish totally different unlike some Indian meals I have experienced.

Ignore outside appearances to find a very agreeable restaurant. The food is much better than the average Indian. There is a very full menu and the service is relaxed and friendly.

I stayed in Dufftown recently for the first time in 6 years and found fewer restaurants open. This is a fairly new restaurant and at first I was a bit unsure about going in as the other places to eat were full and this one had only a few people inside.

What a sensational surprise! Immaculate service, excellent presentation and fabulous food. Wish I was here for another night so I could go back again.

What a fantastic way to end our day. We arrived last night for a buffet meal and it was just fantastic. The restaurant was very clean and very nicely decorated, the service was very welcoming too. We will defiantly be back. Thankyou for a lovely time

This is not an Indian restaurant. It is a Bangladeshi restaurant masquerading as an Indian restaurant, a trend that has sadly become all too common in the UK these days. There were no other customers when we got there - which should have been a warning sign. The person waiting on our table was rude and disinterested throughout and was probably disappointed we had interrupted his afternoon siesta. The food was decent but on the sweeter side. Not a place for authentic Indian food.

I do love an Indian meal and now that Spice of India is open in Dufftown my husband & I thought we'd give it a try. We weren't disappointed!. Didn't book a table and although we turned up quite early (6.30pm ish), we were warmly welcomed and offered a choice of tables.

Was very pleasantly surprised to find great authentic Indian food in this part of Scotland! Portions were big and hearty and the taste was great. We loved it so much that we visited it twice in 2 days! Highy recommended

We have had two takeaways from here now. The food is superb. The only criticism is the service, while very friendly is somewhat chaotic. Hopefully this is just teething problems

Restaurant exterior, decor and WC could be improved but staff were great and the food was exceptionnally good. Really the best indian restaurant I have been to so far! Prices are very reasonable too!

This Restaurant is just newly opened and despite being quite busy the food was really good and the service very friendly. All the team did their utmost to make everyone's evening special. It really was a relaxed, enjoyable and memorable evening. Will definitely go back, especially when I read they have a buffet evening on a Wednesday night and great looking offers on set meals for 2-5 people, including a vegetarian option
