Spice Barkingside in Redbridge

Just ordered a takeaway. Very dissapointed. Veg samosa were not authentic and very bland, no flavour. Lamb curry wad medicore. Chicken balti was tasteless that I had to add hot sauce to it. I've had a lot better elsewhere and will bit be using Spice. Spice used to be good. It's such a shame.

Food was average nothing special... had much better at brick lane east London Visited again for a takeaway, nice friendly service but food wasn't upto much. Bright red fluecent chicken tikka madras which is supposed to be hot 🔥 but was fairly sweet with few chicken pieces. Very disappointing. Definitely my last visit here which is a shame.

Came here with my wife and son for his engagement dinner. Lovely restaurant. Lovely staff.. I will make this my local Indian restaurant from now on.

Following a recommendation from a friend, this was my first time here, and it won't be the last. Already a good sign was that the restaurant was a lot busier than I'd expect for a random Wednesday evening. Service was attentive without being over fussy, food quality was consistently high, portion sizes for mains in particular were ample, and even though we'd never been there before, the proprietor made us feel especially welcome. A+ NB Parking is in bays outside, operated by RingGo, so you may want to consider alternative ways of getting to and from there.

I have been eating here ever since it opened. I must have had thousands of curries over the years, so it is about time I left a review! Always spot on, and the staff are absolutely lovely. Just writing this review, I have realised I need to get another curry tonight. Not sure what they put in it, but it is a bit addictive.

Me and my family thought we would try something different today and we found Spice online. Funnily enough, it’s a 3min drive from our house and have been going past it for years. Firstly, the service is very good, the food is superb and you can tell the other customers are regulars. Will definitely be coming back here with friends!

We’ve been eating here forever and is one of our favourite curry houses. Kalik the owner is as friendly as you’d like and I can honestly say I’ve never ever had a bad experience.

Food arrived bang on time. Reasonably priced I guess. Meat Samosa was very thin. Not much filling. Spicing was so subtle as to be almost non existent. Not much flavour. Vegetable curry was too oily and really not nice to eat. Tarka daal was too lumpy and far too much garlic even for me. Chicken Biryani had hardly any flavour and tasted like the chef forgot to add any of the fragrant spices that you expect from this classic dish. All items was severely under-seasoned. I will not be ordering food from Spice Barkingside again.

The service is exemplary and the food first-class. This is Indian dining at its very best.

7 of us walked in to be offered 10 papa dons & chutney on the house! Manager & a staff mostly assigned to us very friendly. We asked no colour & little oil possible. At end we were given free liquor on the house. We bought 3 bottle of wine + beer. Bill £175 that’s cheap. Manager held umbrella & located our Uber. Have them good tip to remember us next time.

Visited Spice many times with friends. Food is very nice. Nice friendly staff. All the time visited I was lucky enough to have parked outside the restaurant. Nice and big restaurant. Sometimes could be short of a staff at front of house.

I have been here a number of times now and they are consistently very good. The service is great the food is very tasty,and trust me I eat indian regularly and this place just delivers satisfaction every time I've been there.

We have not had a takeaway from Spice for a very long time. The food was delicious, we all really enjoyed it.

Not many options available for vegetarians. All the vegetarian dishes taste similar.

Note we bought Popadoms, 2 soft drinks and Paneer Tikka Korai with 2 Garlic Naan’s. It cost around just under £30. So if your planning on eating more than one main and starters you will be looking at around £20-£30 per person. We would have had more but there were no Starters for Vegetarian or Vegan (apart from vegetable samosas) Food was not great and options limited for Veg, we noticed the food was more Bangladeshi then Indian. Just FYI if you want a proper Indian probably not the spot!

This is not Indian cuisine, more like Bangladeshi. Service was not welcoming. Curry was sweet and spicy. Recommended for emergencies only.

We went to Spice for dinner. The welcome was good. The customer service was superb, the man who took our orders and served us was gentle, always smiling and was checking if everything was okay. When we pointed out something about the rice he was quick to rectify it. The food was delicious and the bread was tasty. When we had finished the dinner and drinks, he gave us some chocolates and even offered us free drinks and that was great. As we left I thanked him for his hospitality and asked for his name it was then that he said he was the owner of Spice. Kalik is a humble man. Great service from him and his staff. Well done. I highly recommend 👌.

Amazing food, great price and wonderful staff. It doesn't matter who you are, they treat you like royalty! The staff remember us even though we visit rarely and always are kind, greeting you on arrival and wishing you well when you leave. Service is fast, and if not fast enough, you're simply stuffed with appetizers! If you're unsure about items on the menu or what to choose, things are explained and recommended to you in depth and the suggestions of what to order have never ever disappointed! Honestly a wonderful place, must visit, I always recommend it! I can't wait to return soon!

My experience visiting this Spice restaurant was disappointing.Waited a long time to order starters. Waiters passing the buck.Few couldn’t understand.Food including curry were nice portion size however compared to other restaurants tasteless Kanchans Carrways, only slightly cheaper in cost.However Waiter didn’t add bill up correctly and overcharged is by 12.00 and reluctantly took it off after we spotted it.I personally wouldn’t recommend it, however a fair size restaurant Waiters could be more friendly, doesn’t cost anything.

Surly waiter service - not even a smile on the chap's face. Didn't even say goodbye when I left and he was right beside me. At the beginning, I asked the waiter a respectful question but got a cold indifferent reply that it was on its way. The Tandoori mixed grill which I ordered was OK and flavour was rather industrial. Problem was it took longer than half an hour and I was the only customer in the restaurant at that time (5 pm). Pretty disappointing overall seeing as I chose the restaurant because of its high ratings on Trip Advisor.

Good service&friendly staff. Didn't have to wait too long for our food which was delicious. Us ladies were given chocolates&liqueurs on the house for us all. Air conditioning was good but I had to ask for it to be turned off as it got too chilly..😬Considering it was a Saturday evening it was not busy.

I guess when you aren’t asian or regularly eat indian - its easy to look at and taste this food and be impressed. I don’t know how they've managed to earn such a high rating. I ordered a biryani for collection, the chap who took the call was extremely rude and when I arrived to collect his attitude in person stank more than dodgy vegetable curry they gave me. The biryani was probably the worst I’ve ever had in my life (I've had a lot, from all around the country), bland rice attacked with red colouring to fool you, the lamb was so tough my jaws were aching and absolutely drenched in oil. Straight in the bin. Never going back. 0 stars.

This place is unbelievable. The most fantastic curry i have ever eaten and the staff are so friendly.

Firstly the guy that took my order over the phone was RUDE!!! The food was the worse Indian food I have ever had we couldn’t eat it! Everything was dripping in oil and the taste was just all oil!

This is not an Indian Restaurant in fact the service and the food was poor. We sat and waited for 30 min with no food they had forgotten our order .The food had no spice no taste not even salt which I found shocking for an Indian restaurant very bland food . NO covid safety measurements in place , staff were not taking precautions no sanitation available, customers were not asked to wear mask no temperature check . Overall poor quality of food and service the staff very not attentive at all often spoke in their own language and ignored us . I'm surprised that others have given this place 5 star . I would not reccomend this place if you like your food seasoned properly with authentic flavors. Good customers and good food is the least we required and we got non .

A favourite resturant for great food with good portions served by friendly staff. The staff now wear gloves and masks with the tables nicely spaced. PS their takeaways are great too and always on time.

Visited as 4 adults. This is a busy restaurant with lovely food. (amazing chicken samosas for starter) Nice staff and dishes were served timely and hot. (Don't be afraid to ask for a foggy bag if you can't manage it all) Only reason for not giving a 5 star review is the decor is a little plain compared to other Indian restaurants visited.

We visited “Spice” Barkingside last week. Don’t usually write reviews but felt I had to as this was the worst Indian restaurant we’ve been to. Would give “zero” stars if possible. Food was awful. No taste at all. Everything had just one tomato sauce in it. No spices at all, not even salt. Staff was not friendly. They didn’t care to talk to customers at all. Very surprised to see five starts been given for this restaurant. I would not be recommending this Indian restaurant.

Very disappointed that Spice not taking Covid seriously. Too many people in restaurant with people queuing between tables and drinking at bar while waiting for a table. Staff not wearing masks and no use of sanitisers being used. Shame as a great restaurant.

V V V busy due to the 50% off nights that are available at the moment. All allowed tables full with a walk in wait time of about 20mins or so. So book if you can to avoid disappointment.

Not a great place for vegetarian. Tried their bhindi, daal tadka and chana masala as well as vegetable dopiyaza. None of these tasted any good.

went there for the first time yesterday, the service was amazing the staff were friendly the dips with the poppadoms were really good (you get them whilst you order) and the food is impeccable, you have to definitely try the spice specials, i would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I went with friends, who highly recommended this restaurant. The service was friendly and helpful, the food was good and the portions generous. After the meal, we were offered brandy and chocolates and felt thoroughly indulged. I had a meat dhansak. It was served hot (thermal), the portion was generous and the quality and texture of the meat were excellent. Meat dhansak is one of my favourite indian specialities: it is traditionally served 'hot and sour' and I found the restaurant version of the dish too bland. Perhaps, at the time of placing the order, meat dhansak could be offered 'mild' or 'hot, spicy and sour' to cater for individual preferences?

Taste of food was very bad and price rate is very high. my sincere opinion is good for nothing . Wasting of money and time

Great service and great food! Sadly moved further away, but still try to visit when I can, and it's always worth the journey! You'll be welcomed with a smile, fed some great food and leave feeling very content, what more could you ask for from a local Indian restaurant? I've been to the majority of the alternatives nearby over the years and Spice has always topped the lot and kept me going back! I'll be heading down soon!

Another great evening at Spice. I have had a number of dishes, all of which have been excellent. There is a good range of vegetarian options on offer too. You couldn't ask for a more helpful service, especially when recommending a vegetarian dish for someone who is not that familiar with Indian cuisine. I have been a number of times and my party will definitely be returning again and again. Oh, one suggestion. If you are looking for this restaurant it is actually Spice Barkingside not Ilford. Guys you need to update your location on Google Maps.
