Mezze Ocakbasi in Redbridge

Been here quite a few times but was very upset with them on a recent visit. I’m allergic to garlic which I pointed out to them. Starter.. no problem.. main meal arrived and the waiter joked it had extra garlic! I put some of the vegetables in my mouth and immediately spat it out! Full of garlic! I pointed this out but it was obvious none of the staff believed me! They eventually bought me out a new plate and the vegetables were completely different… definitely no garlic! They made me feel like I was a liar, even the manager. I won’t be going back in a hurry. Shame cos I always enjoyed it there. We paid the bill in full even leaving a tip as we were with someone who knows them well but, in hindsight, I wish we hadn’t left a tip.

Delicious with very generous portions. Staff really helpful and so efficient even on the busy Saturday we went. Lots of little extra touches like delight and baklava with the bill. A great selection on the menu. 6 of us couldn't fault it. Parking a bit tricky nearby but a 5 min walk to a car park free after 5.30

We have been to Ocakbasi many many times but I don’t think I’ve ever written a review. We thoroughly enjoy it here. It seems to be a bank holiday tradition for us. Ever since we first came we now always order the same thing. We can’t help it. When we first visited many years ago we saw and smelt these amazing chicken wings go past our table and ordered some on the spot even though we’d already ordered food. The Spicy chicken wings are so good. The chargrill on the chicken adds to the flavour and the spice is perfect. After visiting once for the lunchtime offer we now can’t go without having a Harry’s Wrap! This wrap is to die for. The meat is juicy and tender. Plus the chips it comes with are tasty and the salad you get with each dish are brilliant. Super light and fresh. A perfect accompaniment to any dish. We try not to order too much every time but the hummus is also a must. The staff are amazing and always super friendly and helpful. Plus the new renovation of the restaurant is beautiful.

I’ve been coming to this place for years and it has never slipped in quality.The staff are amazing and attentive, but the food … oh my! I particularly love the seabass, Harry’s special, thick chips and garlic sauce and tiramisu. Oh and the rose is delightful as well - very rarely do you find yourself struggling to choose between 3 roses because they’re all delicious! The cocktails are fantastic as well - you won’t regret stopping by

Recently visited Mezze for a birthday celebration, Nick & his team go above & beyond to make the whole experience unforgettable! The food was exceptional as were the cocktails, the decor is superb & the atmosphere was a buzzing & fun place to be! Can't praise the team enough, thank you we will definitely be back

We haven't been a for a while, went on the off-chance. The restaurant was busy at 6:30pm. Nick happily got us a table for two. The food, the service was just as excellent as ever. I thoroughly recommend you visit this restaurant to experience the quality and flavours. Thank you. 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

Been to this restaurant many times over the years not the same as it was .food not as nice service slow and prices increased .think there's a new manager that took the order forgot our drinks but still put it on the bill .such a shame used to love it here

The quality of the food at this restaurant is acceptable, but unfortunately, the service leaves much to be desired. Despite visiting multiple times, I've been disappointed with the way the manager has interacted with me and my mine. It's disheartening to encounter what appears to be passive-aggressive behavior and unconscious bias from the him. It's concerning that in this day and age, such attitudes still persist. Perhaps additional training in cultural competence would benefit both the manager and the staff. Regrettably, I won't be returning to this establishment as I cannot support businesses that tolerate or exhibit racist behavior!

Beautiful new decoration, delicious food 😋 . Must visit!

We ordered takeaway for my daughter’s birthday and they got 2 of the mains wrong and one of the starters. We then had to go back and pick up the correct mains and we asked for some kind of refund. They then old my daughter this was not something they could do even though they made the mistake and continued to say they are losing money on takeaways. Such bad customer service

Food is to die for. It’s literally my favourite restaurant, forget these big restaurants in the city. This places needs a Michelin star! The garlic prawns are like nothing you’ve had before, the sauce is so thick it’s sort of gravy consistency/thickness. The lamb shish is so juicy and succulent.

The food is absolutely lovely here, it's just a shame the owner of the restaurant is so rude. After booking a table for 5 people a week in advance, upon arrival he tried putting us on a table for 4 people and stuck a chair at the end of the table to squeeze the fifth person on. Clearly it would have been far to small and uncomfortable and after refusing a cramped table he pulled another table over. Had a lovely girl serve us, she was very happy, friendly energetic and was doing a great job and for some reason the owner kept coming over and taking over from her, it felt rather embarrassing for the poor girl just trying to do her job. Our mains tried to be served to us whilst we were still eating our starters.. to which the waitress apologised and all was fine.. only for the owner to come over to us and tell us mains we're being served because we only had our table until 8:30pm.. wouldn't have been an issue however it was only 7:20pm at the time and we still had over an hour left! Mains finally got served and all was fine, only for the owner to come over AGAIN to "kindly" offer us an extra 10/15mins at the table after our alotted time AND the proceeded to tell us that from 9pm they had a table of 16 people coming in and they were going to get very busy.. again the time was only 7:50pm. Overall, the food and waitress were lovely however the owner ruined the experience with his constant arrogance towards us. In the end we finished our meals and asked for the bill straight away and ended up leaving at 8:25pm. Obviously once the owner saw the bill in my hand he was more than happy to come over and make "friendly" chat because not only was he getting his money, he was getting his precious table back.

Had dinner at Mezze and was served by Atana. The food was very good and in big amount. The service was excellent and we were very impressed by Atana, her attention to detail, friendliness and prompt service. Always happy and made multitasking look easy. The whole experience was very good and exceeded our expectation despite the fact that we have eaten at Mezze many times. Thank you :)

Something special in Woodford with hugh portions and good value. This welcoming Turkish mezze has excellent food and even better service with the owner, who is regularly in, checking up on you. The staff are friendly and welcoming; asprising to be very gracious hosts.

Friendly and very lovely staff despite how very busy it was. My first time there, the Chicken Shish was simple but delicious, there was no rush to vacate the table, and I will absolutely be going back.

A good selection of Turkish cuisine. Prices are west end prices. But the quality is very good. Also does take away.

After a very hard day at work I needed cheering up , so I asked the wife to meet my at this establishment (we have both been here before). I ordered a bottle of wine an waited, the waiter was very helpful with my choice of wine. When ordering our food I pointed out that fish was on the vegetarian option of the Mezzo meal which was exchanged for a different option. Food was great , but on several occasions the manager went to every table to ask if they food was good if there was anything else was required, but not once was we asked or acknowledged in his presence, clearly sending the message out that we were not the right clientele for his restaurant, this situation spoiled what could have been a good dining experience.

As usual the service and food at Mezze was outstanding, lamb chops for me always, we made a complicated kids order and it all came out exactly as we requested and nothing was too much trouble. My husbands chicken shish was so melt in the mouth. We always bring visiting friends to Mezze because its so brill

Owner - called Nihat, of this restaurant is extremely rude and obnoxious. Never going again. I went there with my husband and my daughter who is 4 years old. It was my husbands birthday and wanted to take him out for dinner. As I was passing the owner on my way back to the table with my daughter he tutted at my daughter as apparently he thought she was in his way and was extremely rude. My husband mentioned it to him and his reply was to ask to take my husband out for a fight…. !!! What sort of a person does this especially as he can clearly see we were a family. Horrible horrible man

I don't usually leave bad reviews but this was an a truly shocking experience. I booked a table online a week before I visited the restaurant and received a confirmation email. I went to the restaurant with a few members of my family and let front of house staff know I had a reservation. They looked at me in disgust and told me to wait 10 minutes and didn't sit us down anywhere. We were taken to a table and seated - The manager on shift came to our table and let me know I was in the wrong restaurant and I didn't have a reservation. I corrected him I showed him the email and he then said it must have been booked this morning I corrected him again and showed him an email that was confirmed the week before - it was bizarre. We felt unwelcome and the service was terrible in general - the manager did not apologise or even offer a free coffee or something to make up for the mix up coming from HIM. Also I think it's the first time I've been to a Turkish restaurant and not been offered free bread and the waiter forgot that I had ordered drinks so I had to remind them - usually I would not mind these things so much but the fact that me and my family felt so unwelcome was a horrible experience. My mum was very upset about the situation. The food was mediocre - dessert was awful and I would not recommend the mint tea. I counted a total of four mint leaves in a cup of hot water. If I could give this place zero stars I would.

Had the spicy prawns and chicken casserole, followed by baklava. All was phenomenal.

Went there last night and have to say the experience was fantastic. Service was impeccable, our italian waiter was very attentive and recommended several dishes which were beautiful (the spicy prawn starter and mix kebab my favourites). The wines he suggested paired really well with the food. Managed to save some space for dessert and I am glad I did as the warm baklava with ice cream was delicious! All in all a lovely meal and will definitely be returning.

Je voyage très souvent et c´est bien la première fois que je fut dévisager de la sorte, la personne qui nous a accueilli m´a regardé de haut en bas pour me dire qu´il était complet alors que le restaurant était pratiquement vide. J´ai par la suite appelé pour réserver on m´a indiqué que c´était possible... Je n´ai pas pour habitude de mal noter mais c´est vraiment honteux, je regrette sincèrement d´avoir fait 20 min de route pour ce "restaurant". Bien entendu je déconseille fortement cette établissement et j´espère que les propriétaires feront le nécessaire concernant ce piètre personnage !

Surprisingly expensive ,for poor food.disappointed that the cuts of meat were more fat than meat. If it was anywhere else than Woodford it would have been found out by now. Go to Hackney or Haringey for better fare at a fairer price.

The food was great! No complains at all, all our company were happy with their dishes! However service.. not that great. Waitress was not smiley or very welcoming, sharing plates were removed with food still in there without even asking if we finished. But the best was when my sister finished her latte and at the bottom she found beer bottle cap, that's unbelievable and all we got from waitress was: "oh sorry I will check at the back" but she never came back to us...

Delicious food and great atmosphere! Cold meze for a starter was a great choice. We also had mixed shish and mixed kebab, and both were fantastic. For the pudding we have tried baklava and found it absolutely delicious as well. We would strongly recommend you book a table. It got really busy after 7pm!

Good food but bad customer service which i didn’t expected. My sister lives in Woodford green and with her I visited this place few times in 2013 and those visits were great. Great food and customer service but few weeks back I was coming from Wales to London and I told my friend’s that i know this Turkish restaurant which offers great food and we decided to eat here upon our arrival. The guy who took our order was very nice at first, I told him that bring the drinks first and we will have the side orders with the main course. In that very moment my friend said let’s have the side orders with the drink’s and we will have the main course later. When we requested him to bring the sides with the drinks he said to us in a rude behavior that what you really want ? First you said sides with main course now you are saying sides with drinks first. To be honest we were very hungry as it took us 6 hours to reach London due long queues of traffic on motorway. I ignored his behavior but we discussed among how he behaved. Now i have recently started writing reviews and google showed me the places I have visited and it all came back to me. I have felt that customer services have really gone down in the United Kingdom. I am not sure why ? Maybe because of high living costs and low wages. People are more worried then before. The food was good but you go to a nice restaurant and you want to be treated nicely right ? As you paying for the food everything. I have worked in the pizza business and now i am online retailer. Customers should always be treated nicely. Full stop. My suggestion for the owner is that please work on your customer service.

Came here for an early evening dinner for a lovely Turkish dinner! Really nice starter for the meal before the actual meat platter for the evening. Absolutely amazing ambience and cosy for this. Worth coming here if you around the corner.

Food was very good the service okays but I am very disappointed about dish suggested wich is the lamb stew wasn’t with lamb inside they charged me 18£ it was nothing inside better to say they forgot to put lamb in this is unfair ,I complained to waitress she said next time I will ask to put inside what does mean?!!! lol This is awful ….u should give me the stew lamb as u suggested to me amd they charged for the klefticon dish ,also I didn’t like the reaction of maneger director or most probably the owner ( he seems like the owner)on the of this inconvenience he pretended to ignore us after when the waitress went to him and she told him Abt the horrible service dish btw i m in the business too We got restaurants and beauty clinics For sure this is not the right way to treat clients I am very disappointed Never and ever I will never come back this is just awful

This is a great restaurant for friends, couples, families and so on. The food is tasty, still hot when it gets to your table and there's lots of variety. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere here has always been great. Would recommend to anyone.

Food was amazing. Ambience was also great, on a Sunday too. Owner was there and greeted us and served us drinks personally once we had eaten. Couldn’t recommend them enough. 10/10

My review is based on vegetarian dishes. The options and taste of sides ( garlic mushroom, holumi fries ) was good . There was no vegetarian main dishes surprisingly. Though they made effort to make dish out of falafel , holumi and humus which was disaster. Ambient was ok and staff were polite. I would not prefer to visit again and neither would recommend anyone who prefers vegetarian food.

Very good food. Portions sizes of the chicken and lamb shish are huge so suggest going easy on the starters. That being said every starter I’ve tried is great. My personal favourite is the chicken livers. Excited to go back soon.

I came here yesterday evening with my 8 year old nephew, Sister and Dad. We had not booked but they said they could fit us in for an hour. It’s such a lovely restaurant with a great ambiance. I wouldn’t say a Saturday evening is great for bringing kids, it seemed more like an adult place but not sure what the rest of the week is like. My Sister and I loved the music although I’m not sure my Dad could hear us talking as he kept saying pardon but it didn’t matter. The ambiance is really nice, it’s quite dark inside with a candlelit environment which makes me also think it would be a great place to go on a date. The food was lovely, just the right portion size, I wouldn’t describe it as the best Turkish food that I have had but it really was delicious all the same and the staff were very friendly and were well informed about the menu. I would definitely go back.

Being of Turkish origin I usually head up to Haringey but not necessarily anymore. The food here is outstanding. The meat is of high quality, and you can even order a portion of asparagus on the side 😂 The cocktails are insane, my Whiskey Sour was spot on with crystallised sugar around the rim of the glass. The lighting and ambience of the restaurant are perfect and they have a bar where you can sit when you arrive and have a friendly chat to the staff. Ps you need to book in advance!

First time at this restaurant with family this evening. Very happy with the excellent friendly service received throughout and nice to chat with the owner who paid a visit to our table. A very vibrant atmosphere with all ages enjoying a fantastic and tasty, wholesome menu. Worth a visit if you’re in the Woodford area folks.

Very tasty food with great weekly lunch menu. The food was delicious and came in very generous portions. Would only say that the price for drinks was pretty steep - £3.50 for a soft drink, tea or coffee. Overall, would definitely visit here again as things were clean, well presented and tasty.

I was disappointed the last time we were here, it was just not the same. And Considering the resent price rises, it was not value for money. A real shame as this place has been a favourite of mine for some time. Most good Turkish restaurants are now very expensive and over priced.

Food is good but poor service. Can't fault this place's food even after the price rise but poor service, was told 20 minutes in person, then was told to wait another 5, waited patiently for 50 minutes. Had I not paid before I would have left. Won't be coming back after years of coming here.

The food here is really good, generous portions well cooked and delicious. The service is pretty good, and the waitresses sweet and welcoming. However, sadly its one of those places that feels like a private club in which we felt very unwelcome. The owner and head waiter clearly have 'favourite' customers and regulars - anyone outside that circle seems like an inconvenience, food is plonked down at speed with no smile or attempt at pleasantness. In general prices are very reasonable but £3.50 for a mint tea (a few mint leaves and hot water) is a bit steep! All in all, I would love to visit again but the closed, unwelcoming atmosphere puts me right off.

The food is lovely in this place but the owner can be seen shouting at the staff infront of customers ,very unprofessional and they all seem scared and not confident. I met one of the young staff last week,outside the restaurant crying and she didn't want to talk about it,I felt for her. I think staff should be respected and treated well and professionally. I don't think I will recommend anyone of my friends to this place at all esp after seeing how they treat each yet give eye service to customers .

The food was ok. The service really needs to pick up. There was enough people running around but I didn't feel like anyone cared we were there. Drinks took a really long time to come. It used to be better.

I’ve been to many Turkish restaurants in London and I have to say that this ranks at the top. The chicken was extremely soft and juicy, the lamb chops and lamb sish were cooked to perfection and the Adana had interesting herbs. Overall the meat was very juicy. I’d recommend mixed grill as the main and the Hummus with Lamb as the starters. Also their garlic and Chili sauce was very good!

Its just the best Turkish restaurant! Just had the new Lamb Sish 2 and it was delicious!
