Speke Hall café in Liverpool

Great coffee. Scones are usually the best we've tasted at National Trust properties. They are happy to accommodate dogs at the outside tables and have fresh drinking water for them. Scones were back to their usual best today!! five stars!

Very busy and the staff appeared very stressed.

A nice National Trust cafe in the grounds of Speake Hall. The spicy sausage rolls were excellent.

We love Speke hall the food is nice but the coffee is terrible

Friendly team, though younger members failed to assist when a family needed a highchair, simply pointing to the chair, behind cabinet.

Had a light lunch, soup & a roll...tasted homemade. Beautiful. And the staff were lovely.

Only had drinks but the service was excellent.

Visited today but didn't get a chance to sample the food, service or atmosphere. It is free entry for NT members only. Non members pay £7.60 each for entry. Makes the lunch a bit too expensive! Should be made clear on the website. Given it 2 stars as the staff on reception were very nice.

Lovely outdoors and j doors sitting

The atmosphere in the restaurant can only be described as electric. The staff are so friendly and lovely that you don't want to leave. One of the staff, Jo, always has a smile on her face and make you feel like family.

Part of the NT's standard fare and good.

Expensive, i had an egg mayonaise sandwich, no salad, very little mayo, bread wasn't fresh

Tried to eat here today but told I had to pay £12 just to enter the grounds to get to the restaurant! Absolutely ridiculous being from the local community having to pay to get in.

Ridiculous prices. £3.50 for tiny tin of soft drink. £4.00 for cake. Dearer than garden centres or motorway services. The rest of the place is as you would expect, really and worth the money.

Lovely place , shame it's a bit over priced £2.20 for a can of pop . We always take a picnic, and then treat ourselves with coffee and a cake , which again is expensive nearly £30 for 4 people but a nice treat. I know it's a charity but I think prices should be looked at .

Lovely food lovely staff and plenty of tables inside and out. Prices could seem a little on the high side, but the quality is good.

Full English breakfast was very nice, coffee really good, nice relaxed atmosphere, set us up for a walk round the grounds and the house

Only had coffee which was good so I can't comment on the food. Staff friendly and helpful but we were left standing at first because they were too busy chatting.

Speke Hall was interesting with beautiful buildings and grounds. The NT staff were very helpful and informative. However as long time members of the National Trust, we have of course visited many properties and their cafes. We have always enjoyed their coffee and cakes, but over the last year or two we have noticed the cake portions are continuously shrinking. On visiting Speke Hall cafe we turned down the option of cakes for the first time, due to their size and I had to return a latte due to a lack of coffee. So sadly the cafe experience could have been better, but the issues are not specific to Speke Hall Cafe.

Lovely lunch - enjoyed everything

Update Oct 2023 - arrived after 2 so missed most of the hot food options, but managed to get a beef Croque that was nice. Always good to get a walk along the bund and see the Welsh mountains calling me. Friendly staff, lovely food, and great that they serve traditional local dishes too (scouse, wet nelly)

Food and drink tasted OK but both were only lukewarm unfortunately.

Excellent food at decent prices

Place was manic. Had to queue for 20 minutes to order, luckily got a table and had to wait another 20 minutes for the food to arrive.

We enjoyed the food served in the café. The problem came with the cutlery.Our first set was dirty. We went back and got more but that was dirty as well

Much credit to the frazzled but friendly cafe staff, we went on a busy, wet afternoon and the acoustics in the building lend themselves to a lot of echoing. Add in crying children and it wasn't a peaceful spot I'm afraid! But, I did nab the last scone, so all was not lost.

We went from here on a tour of John Lennon and Paul McCartneys childhood homes which was excellent. Back to Speke hall the cafe and the toilets were open. Bonus. Lovely food and hot drinks here. Highly recommended although the house was shut for renovation on a Tuesday.

Great service could do with a few more sandwich choices but all the cakes and other foods are of great quality.

Very noisy. Scone was undertaken and craggy. Very disappointing.

It was near the end of the day. Areas were being closed and some staff were not pleased when a chair blocking customers from getting a seat was moved. Couldn't sit outside as it was raining quite hard. Staff inside the hall itself were friendly and helpful. I did not let that mar my day.

3 pm afternoon visit - no savoury food available. Member of staff didn't know what a cream tea was! Long queues, long wait for cream tea which arrived without butter or cutlery - hopeless!

Partners sausage casserole was tasty came with a thick chunk of bread some mash wouldn't have gone amiss!My cheese and tomato Sarnie was awful very dry and hard round the edges cheap cheese slices and spread with marg!ugh

Wonderful cafe with a great selection of food from sandwiches to pasties. The cakes looked delicious! I had a 3 cheese sandwich, which was different and lovely. Service was really quick and the staff were very friendly.

Rude staff. Food burnt. Staff suprisec when we sent it back. Returned and sarcastically asked if that ok for us. Staff scowling throughout.

Very sad we arrived for a great day for my nans bday to find the ladies on the service were rude and not welcoming we got dirty cups and the bacon rolls were old buns bacon was awful the lady was rude to my mum when we asked for a new cup the food was unappetising and just sad start to the day

This is such a busy cafe, the line is always really long, but the food is good and the cakes are all made in house. Lovely to sit outside in the summer, and they do vegan magnums which is good for dairy allergy kids. Nice and close to the swings and the toilets, and the new book shop.

Always like to stop in for a scone and a pot of tea. Lovely to eat in the courtyard, weather permitting.

£25 for 4 x scones with jam and cream, and 2 x coffees and 2 x soft drinks. Seemed quite expensive to me. Although scones were good had to pay additionally for jam, cream & butter.

I am not quick at reading menus on the wall behind the serving desk. So it might be helpful to have a board outside. I had a child's portion of baked potato which was served with a dressed salad. Just right when you want a light lunch.

A nice café, but there's not much space to accommodate prams. Moderate pricing.

Fantastic service and a great day out

Food good service not so to many staff taking orders but not enough staff on drinks so there seem to be some confusion who was actually on drinks. I had to ask after waiting & paying & other people were getting there drinks before me.

Plenty of seating indoors and out. Enjoyed tasty Paninis and toastees.

Restaurant is currently closed for refurbishment so there is a pizza maker parked up nearby. The restaurant always has great service, food and atmosphere hence five stars all round.

Seems like a nice hall but today everything apart from a pizza van was open. A 40 quid day out for a couple. Maybe save your money and go Wales for the day.

A clean space with very helpful staff who go above and beyond to get you what you want. Affordable, tasty food and a nice outside seating area.

After trudging through the wet gardens with the hall being closed we decided to have a meal in the cafe/restaurant. It was only 2pm and there was no hot food available apart from some potato wedges that were already cooked. We had some of those and took our seats with a hot drink each and we were watching the staff cordoning off the tables for cleaning even though they don't close until 4. A large party arrived after us with babies in prams and toddlers who were all crammed together on two tables that they had to push together. Lord knows what they found to eat for those babies and little ones! We WILL be back hoping to see inside the hall as it must be 40 years since we have been and really wanted to see it in its beautiful glory as it used to be.

Superb food selection, all looked so tasty. We plumped for a toasted Panini and a croque. Friendly and efficient service. Most welcome on a chilly winter's day.

Bardzo dobre jedzenie, robione na miejscu. Wszystkie warzywa mają od najlepszych dostawców. Mięso z tego co się dowiedziałem jest produkowane w UK. Maja również opcje vegan. Desery oraz kawa również świeże.

Lovely Toastie Sandwich on Afternoon Walk

The food and coffee are quite nice, although it's over priced and the service could be better.

What lovely homely cafe " very friendly spotless and home cooked food taste " very tasty and well served and lots of it no tiny portions here 🙂 I quite often go just for lunch without walking around the grounds or house

Only called in for mince pie, before the Carol service. Staff really friendly.

We started queuing at 2-30pm which was fine however the staff started removing the cakes trays from the display wrapping them in cling film and taking them into the back of the cafe.This was while we were still in the queue at 3pm. Very poor service considering there was still an hour to go.

Far too slow and couldn't cope with numbers. Same queue for drinks and hot food just not efficient. You've had takeaway options outside before so why not on busy Xmas weekend.

Nice cafe, friendly staff, lovely brew.

House closed despite handbook information, allegedly for decorating and cleaning but Hall all locked up and nothing appeared to be going on. Cafe looks tired; menu comprises little more than a cheese toastie or panini, served by staff too weary to raise a smile. Nothing to look at in the grounds except muddy paths and grass. Definitely not worth the £10 pp Grounds Only admission.

House was closed for winter. The gardens are nothing special. The cafe is wonderful and the staff super friendly. Yhe highlight of the visit.

Nice strong coffee. Good selection of food. Didn't eat anything so I can't comment if it tastes nice. Prices ok 👍

Up to the usual National Trust standards. On the day we visited the restaurant was very busy.

Not bad but not great. Very slow self service in busy times.. very over priced for what you get. Soup and a baked potato almost £20.
