A really friendly establishment great choice of food well worth a visit

Lovely food, good portions of fish and chips, sausage, and chips plus sauces. Clean and bright, staff were very friendly and helpful. Great spot after a long walk on promenade.

Didn't go in, didn't know if dogs were allowed or if there was anything other than food available. Went to Trenchers Takeaway, not very good compared to their shop in Whitby.

After having extensive renovations done to this historic place, now looks magnificent and one of its kind in north east of England. This can be the right choice if you are looking for Some top class dining experience if you like to have on your special day.

Love this spot especially knowing my Mam come here as a kid. ❤️ Very picturesque in the Summer.

The food was OKish ( skin was left on my fish, which I'm not used to seeing). The peas were cold and not cooked, and the chips were cold, too. I totally grudged the price for the food but wasn't in a frame of mind to complain. However, that leads me to the next problem, the service! This was dreadful. It appeared to be staffed by high school kids of around 16 years old if they were lucky! They were hard to attract to make an order, and then service was sloppy with no grace or flair, I wasn't looking for silver service but having my plate dropped into place nearly in the right place was a little sloppy I'd say. Needless to say, there was no tip left, and I did not feel bad about it.

Absolutely gorgeous building inside... first time I'd been and was blown away!! Fish and chips (large cod) was delicious and fairly priced for the surroundings... staff were extremely tentative and polite... place was spotless Highly recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👌👌

Greasy, greasy food. Burger swimming in grease - so slimy. Fish greasy, thin, dry and hard. Our child wouldn’t eat the food. I didn’t see any smiles or happy faces on fellow diners on the day we went. And the price pretty high for a rip off.

Dinner in 1910. Gorgeous meal, massive v fresh oysters. Lovely menu and fab service.

The afternoon Tea with santa (in December) is excellent, great food, real life elves and real santa. Great happy atmosphere. Have to book early.

Fantastic building to eat fish & chips, table booked for 1pm, table all ready when arrived, ordered fish and chips and were served within 15 mins. Food quality was excellent. Staff could not have been more friendly. 2nd visit as above,) but I must say this place is so clean it's hard to believe it's a restaurant.

Trenchers - Fabulous place, great decor open and spacious. Good was excellent and service friendly and intimate. Brilliant place for a good experience.

Beware ANPR parking charges in the Spanish City carpark. My wife visited and overstayed by 3 minutes. Most of that 3 minutes is likely parking/finding a space/paying. She was fined £100 by a private parking company. The reason she was late returning to the vehicle was because Valeries tearoom didn't process the food order correctly, so she waited for a meal that never even arrived. By the time this was realised, lunch break was over and had to return to work with no food! We regularly visited Spanish City, but we will be boycotting from now on as a direct result of this issue.

This place is so nice they have adult food and kids food it is so so good

Do not book xmas lunch with santa here, food portions and quality appalling for the price. A dj far too loud, measly small pack of choc as a present from santa. Total rip off!

We visited the Christmas Market. The fact it was all inside was much better than last year. The quality of the stalls was good and varied. The staff on the door were really sociable, friendly and had a sense of humour which was great.

OMG, what a wonderful experience, the food (fish and chips) was out of this world. It was exceptionally good. It's easy to know why they are in the top 5 fish and chips establishment in the country. A definitive must to go to place if anywhere near by.

Well worth a visit, we always come here many T rooms and restaurants over three floors. However, be mindful out of season it seems to be shut Monday & Tuesdays! So don't pay for parking until you've checked it's actually open for business.

Been past this place numerous of time and didn't know entrance existed. Highly recommend, just go for a coffee or tea and you will understand, always value the food than the build, but this place is amazing. But the food is also great too.

They have done a excellent job with the refurbishment and the restaurant does very nice fish and chips

Poor vegan options. Adequate gluten free options. The vegan option was a small piece of cauliflower and a small portion of rice. They brought the wrong starter out so one had to wait for a fresh one to be made. One beef was like leather. They tried to overcharge us by multiplying the wrong amounts for 2 courses £30 and 3 courses £36. No music. Food was tasty though and staff were friendly.

A historically iconic building for many people who know Whitley Bay's past.

Called here for a lunch time drink. Fabulous building. Great views over the beach. Didn't eat as we had a late breakfast but food we saw being brought out looked good. Hope to return to dine. Had a look in 1910 restaurant and it looked a beautiful place to dine

Wow. What a venue for all occasions. Inside and out is magnificent. I might be biased coz I'm a local lad and have always admired this building and at last over the last few years i can see it in its full glory and go on inside for a drink. I usually spend my time in the Champagne bar. Beautiful inside and the views outside along the links, promenade and towards the lighthouse are breathtaking. The staff are extremely attentive and always very aimable, professional, polite and friendly. The food on offer looks delicious although I've never ate there. Overall, the standard of cleanliness and overall atmos (great background music by the way) is first rate. I highly recommend this marvellous and historic entertainment venue.

Well its in the Spanish City, worked with owner Mark at the original Split Chimp Newcastle logo then commissioned to create a Chimp Mural start of this year for the new Spanish City Split Chimp, very enjoyable.

An iconic attraction on Whitley Bay's seafront. Worth a visit if in the area.

Fabulously restored iconic building. This area has been completely refurbished over the past few years with the road moved and a new pedestrianised area facing the sea and connecting with the refurbished seafront promenade. Good shops bars and restaurants. Look for the lyrics to the Dire Straits song about Spanish City carved into the floor.....

I had coffee and cake in the Champage Bar. Great views, fantastically comfortable with bags of atmosphere. Lots else to do.

Visited for a wedding. Venue has stunning views of the sea front. A little pricey but to be expected these days.

Haven't been in years but I love what's happened with the place, food was great and the service was excellent, there were about 11 of us and the staff were very quick to put a couple of tables together to accommodate our requirements

Beautiful place in Whitley bay.

My wife and I were celebrating our 14th wedding anniversary there today. The whole venue is spotless and even better presented. We had talked about what we expected it to be like as a child I'd play in the Spanish City during my holidays. We ate to a moderate sound, and I would say a great experience in doing so. It was quiet and pleasant. The food was fresh and very tasty. The menu wasn't difficult to navigate. For the venue being as I remembered it to be, I was able to take in the newer version although it's not new to some 10+ years since Whitley Bay's landmark icon has been cleaned up. I recommend the seafood platter, especially the salmon. The cod bites with the white bait and King Prawns were so good to want to go back to again soon. As I'm writing this, I would with no hesitation call to pick up another order from them. The venue has lots of goodness and gave us no negative surprises. The staff were amazing, I mentioned it was our wedding anniversary and they really pushed the boats out for us. These are staff that thrive on functions. They put the clients first and the function is given the best care and diligence by them. The way the staff waited on us and let us know who they are was fabulous. Mud in with salad staff not very concerned said it wasn't there fault as pre washed salad in bags would not return to Valerie's tea rooms

Myself and my wife had our daytime wedding ceremony and reception at Spanish City on 27.07.2024. It was the perfect day and the staff cannot be thanked enough. Nothing was too much trouble, a big shout to Mo for being a genuinely lovely man and a brilliant host of ceremonies. So many good tips and helped the whole day run smoothly. An excellent venue - we would highly recommend- food and drink service was great. Thank you all.

Great place. Didgeridoo player outside in the street slightly annoying but the staff were happy for us to move inside. Our food was slightly delayed and we were offered a free cake if iur choice even though we didn't even complain. Great place.

Visit this place. It's a lovely place to visit and various points to have events, hang out and have the ocean view.

We went in here for a steak night at the 1910 restaurant. The food was amazing and so was the service and the view amazing too. Drinks reasonably priced in the restaurant and the bar and the building itself looks great inside and out.

The staff was fantastic & very professional & made our day perfect. The food was absolutely beautiful. We have has so my compliments saying it's the best wedding they have been to. We had afternoon tea, it was nice, didn't seem many staff. One was having to multi task running a bar and the restaurant and the next section. Beautiful location and stunning views.

What a beautiful grand building, we had lunch/Dinner at the Trenchers Restaurant, stunning surroundings, with just so much history over the years.. Had Goan curry (seafood one) and the wife had steak pie, both so so good, the meat in the steak pie, well.. Let's just say I had a far share of it too.. Wife couldn't eat it all.. Loved the Piano in the middle of the restaurant, can imagine it's great listening to it being played whilst eating dinner and enjoying a glass or two of wine.. Will definitely be back, but maybe try the 1910 restaurant next time.. Only reason I've marked the Atmosphere 3/5 was there was only one other couple in there, so couldn't really rate 5/5, but I'm sure when it's busy it's the kind of place that would be 5/5..

Lovely meal for step dad’s birthday, server very friendly and easy to talk to. We all had fish and chips including my niece who insisted her cod was more like a whale it was so big. She did feel a little put out that she didn’t get an activity book but younger children did. (She is 11) the food we had was lovely though and always is. Step dad and mum got the pensioners special and say it’s very good value for money.

This beautifully preserved building is a stunner from the outside but even more beautiful from the inside. The decor is restrained and timeless. The restaurant is well known for their fish and chips as well as their seafood pie. We all ordered the small cod with chips with a nice bottle of white wine. The batter was delicious and the cod tasted very fresh. Do treat yourself to some peas pudding as a side dish. A very enjoyable afternoon it was ;-)

Visited here today with my partner and her parents to celebrate her mams 88th birthday. Upon arrival, we were a bit early and was told to pop upstairs and have a drink. After about 10 mins we were told our table was ready.. We came back down and sat down. We waited for over 15 mins for someone to come and take our order. The waiter who took our order and served our meals had no interpersonal skills what so ever. Based on our experience today, sadly, we will not be eating here again. It's a wonderful venue, but sadly, we did not enjoy our experience with this person.

I bought a ticket here for parking and now have a county court claim, claiming that I didn't. Now I have to waste a ton of my time dealing with this and researching how to deal with the court system. Buy your fish and chips elsewhere, it sucks here anyway, overpriced and small portion.

If you are walking along the beach at Whitley Bay ...doing the Park Run. Spanish city is a good place to check out for food and drinks. There are a few restaurants for varying budgets. It's scenic and right on the beach front.

Loveliest fish restaurant in the world! Stunning restoration, prize winning food, delightful staff AND a very talented piano player! Wow!

After a 4 mile walk, a group of us went to Trenchers for a fish & chips lunch. The food, service and surroundings were all excellent. Because it was a Friday the pensioners special offer for fish & chips wasn't on!

It's worth visiting just to experience the building, lovingly restored and evoking childhood memories of fairgrounds and slot machines, thinking was this stunning interior here all that time. Not the cheapest of fish and chips, but you're paying for the surroundings, the service and the experience which couldn't be faulted. Push the boat out and try the oysters, the tempura with tartar sauce particularly nice, but washed down with a couple of traditional with red wine vinegar and shallots. Fish cooked to perfection both battered and pan fried. If I have one small criticism the chips were not the best I've had.

Matrade greeted us at the door, silver service, excellent food and everyone welcome, no dress code. Tempted to try the Oysters, but went for fish and chips and stayed with my initial choice. Excellent.

Great place to eat, spacious, clean and very nice waiting staff who know the menu very well and answered any queries confidently. The service was quite quick and we were eating our main meal shortly after ordering.car parking outside at the back and easily accessible. Well worth a visit.

Lovely evening spent with friends watching Hayley-Ria and her tribute to Whitney Houston. Meal was delicious and dessert 🍨 Entertainment was outstanding and disco later on got everyone up dancing!
