Sozo in Newtownabbey

The taco I had was quite bland and tasteless to be honest. The post lockdown menu didn't have much but wasn't thrilled by the few things on it. Overall this was a little below average.

We booked a table with me and my mates, for a small bite at monday night. The dinner menu was quite some size, but they certainly had what i wanted. Service was grand. The staff made you feel welcome within a minute! Great to hear on how they handle the corona virus, with screens and cleaning the tables constantly. Certainly will come back!

Reassured with all the safety procedures brought in after opening. Staff are attentive and ensure all customers use the necessary hand sanitizer provided.The staff do all they can to make the eating experience stress free and it’s great to see it back open . Tables etc are also cleaned down after each customer leaves.

I have been to sozo a few times for breakfast lunch and dinner and normally have loved it, however on this occasion their revamped lunch menu just was awful. If you’re not wanting a dinner sized meal such as a burger for lunch time charged at £9 then definitely do not go here as their new deli options are minimal and just not very nice at all.I ordered the chicken tikka wrap which was edible however I would much rather save myself the £6.50 and make it myself or pick up a Tesco meal deal which would’ve been far nicer in my opinion. However, the Carlos Cuban wrap Which my brother ordered was probably the worst thing I’ve ever had in a restaurant and I eat out a lot and work in a restaurant. The menu doesn’t include any description of what is inside the sandwiches and while we should’ve asked prior, you really shouldn’t have to ask what is in every wrap as it should be described on the menu. Carlos Cuban to us, we imagined chicken, something spicy maybe peppers, it came with horrible thick ham, salami, gherkins and mustard which is a very particular taste and we would otherwise have said no mustard had we have known that it was even in it. Needless to say this was inedible, even the smell was toxic. Therefore having to pay £6.50 for something that we took 2 bites out of and practically spat out was not ideal. Staff were lovey as always and service was good but food is just not up to par and left me feeling ill the rest of the day with the taste left in my mouth. Old menu was a lot better with soup and panini options for a better lighter lunch. This has put me off sozo greatly and I will be unlikely to return.

My first poor review of somewhere and today's experience has earned it! I had good experiences here before but right from the outset the service wasn't great and then it went downhill from there. We were sat at our table and asked for our order three times, on the third occasion we had already made our order with another waiter. The two of us ordered the Posh Mushrooms on Toast with greens........nothing like what we had expected. I had asked for a poached egg if possible only to be told they don't serve eggs after breakfast finishes and yet people were being served fried eggs after we had been served. The dish didn't look appealing and was covered in cheddar cheese and what seemed like a cup a soup chicken flavoured sauce. No one came back to ask how we were finding the food and upon pay, the waiter didn't ask us how we found the food. All in all, the service and food wasn't great at all and I can say I won't be going back here again.

We found this gem a couple of years ago when we were looking for a good half way meeting spot for a family get together. We have been back many times since and have never been disappointed. The staff are terrific - they always go the extra mile, esp if it is a celebration. So friendly. The food is always great - the chowder is amazing! The restaurant is cozy in winter, and bright and airy in summer - with beautiful views. You will not regret a visit to Sozo!

With the wind beating away outside, great food and a friendly vibe. Value for money. Background music a little loud to allow easy conversation. A good family atmosphere.

Was in here today for my dads birthday and I can definitely say I will be coming back again. A lovely young male took care of all of our needs and made sure we had everything we needed! The food was gorgeous (I had the Lasagne and sweet potato fries.) 5 Stars from me!!!

I called here with a friend in passing and easily got a seat. Ordered a burger and it was nice enough. Nice ambience and average pricing with view of sea across the road mixed with very pleasant and helpful staff made this a good experience. Menu is a bit limited and a nice touch would be to ask if we wanted water or leave a hug on the table.

Great menu choice with exceptional views and food. Waiter service always top notch. Will visit again soon.

The views from the far tables in this restaurant are fab and something I never get tired of. Always seems busy so would advise to book especially for dinner. Food is always nice and good value. Not really set up for having babies or toddlers with you as depends on the table there might be no room for a high chair.

I hadn't been in this restaurant for 3 years as my last experience was poor. A group of 8 went for a friend's birthday. During the meal there was water dripping on our table, some of which dripped into my friend's food. She moved her plate to the side and carried on. None of the staff came to see if everything was ok, although one was happy enough chatting for ages at another table with some friends. Unfortunately she was not within hailing distance and it took some time to catch the attention of another waitress. When we showed her the drips of water, she announced that it was from the heating system and was going to be fixed the next day and seemed to think that was acceptable. I queried the possibility that it was contaminated by coolant but she said there was nothing they could do about it, even though there was an empty table nearby. My friend whose birthday celebration it was said she didn't want to make fuss so we respected her wishes. They charged us the full amount. A few days later another of my friends contacted them saying it was very poor customer service and they sent a £20 voucher off our next visit. It ended up in the bin as no-one wanted to go back.

Went on Father’s Day and right away staff greeted my dad with ‘happy fathers day’ and he was given a free drink. Service was excellent by friendly efficient staff. Food also Great with plenty of choice, big portions and well presented. Very enjoyable time and really glad we picked sozo.

We visited for lunch and were not disappointed. A great choice for all Members of the family and staff couldn’t do enough to help. Our food was well Presented and tasted great! Will definitely be back.

Went to Sozo at 11.45 for breakfast but because of my allergies I was unable to get anything off breakfast menu. The helpful waitress suggested we wait for lunch at 12. We did this and were glad we did as it filled up very quickly. I had the warm duck salad which was beautiful plenty of duck. Not a lot of alternatives for G. F And EGG ALLERGY. I know I am hard to cater for but always get something to suit.

Visited today for a spot of lunch with my other half and we were not disappointed. We both had the beef roast dinner and it was cooked to perfection. So full of flavour and honestly it was the best meal we’ve ever had. The customer service we received I must say was fabulous, especially as the restaurant was at full capacity. Our order was taken by a young lady with glasses and we were checked up on by another with red hair; both were very happy & most of all polite! We will definitely be back again soon!

We visited as a family today for a quick cup of tea and some buns. We arrived and seated ourselves at the window for the lovely view and were approached by a member is staff who gave us a mouthful because of where we had sat!! She told us rudely these tables were booked for this evening and we said we were only in for a quick cup of tea so she turned on her heal and walked away!! A couple came in after us and sat at the next table, she served them and completely ignored us for a good 15 mins so we left! She seen us leave and didn’t even acknowledge us leaving either!

Popped in yesterday for lunch, greeted by friendly professional staff! Chose a sandwich and panini, both excellent and washed down with coffee and a strawberry milkshake (beautiful)! Staff are lovely, as is the location! Will be back, thank you! 😊

Went for a late lunch today had a Chicken, Sweetcorn & Mayo Panini which was burned, I only ate the filling which very dry no one came over to ask was everything ok or did we need anything else. The staff where to busy talking to a member of staff or owner!!that was eating lunch with there family. Definitely no customer service Won’t be back

Had heard that the standards had fallen but thought I would go anyway. I was very disappointed ordered a vegetarian curry and got a bowl of chick peas with curry. My friend was disappointed too with their chicken dish. Sorry won’t be back

Brought a friend for lunch. Thankfully her meal was good. Mine on the other hand (just a bowl of soggy chips, bacon and onion) was a disgrace as the dish/bowl had at least an egg cup full of grease at the bottom. I did show it to the waitress who said "that's awful". Staff are friendly and helpful but chef should be ashamed for serving the meal/snack I had

Had breakfast here one morning and just loved it. We both had typical cooked fare but it had something slightly special. Can't put my finger on it. Would definitely to again

My son took me for lunch today at Sozo I had a very filling chicken and bacon Caesar salad it was very good. My son had chicken goujons with chips which he really enjoyed. I have been to Sozo on a number of occasions and never had a bad meal would recommend a visit. The staff are always very helpful and pleasant.

Came across this quirky little place while out walking. Enjoyed breakfast from a pretty impressive menu. Atmosphere wonderful, food delicious and the staff very friendly. Definitely would return and recommend.

Calling in for a light Lunch, just before Christmas, along with my son; on the recommendation of my sister, I was looking for something different and different is what we got.

Had the chicken bacon burger for lunch. I found the chicken and bacon to be overdone. The chicken was in hard batter and was dry . The bacon was rock hard. I get the impression they either over cook or reheat previously cooked food. I wouldn’t return. I think this place has went downhill.

On our visit I had lentil soup with wheaten bread and my husband ham hock. The soup was a meal in itself. The wheaten was lovely and it can be hard to find good wheaten bread. The Christmas Dinner we both had was very good, my only note is that I wanted more of everything.

Very stylish and trendy restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed coming to this restaurant for food. The staff were friendly, the food was great and the atmosphere was also pleasant. Good place to go for a date.

Trendy (think Land Rover Defenders in this most suburban of burbs, sleeve tattoos, mandatory beards, liquids served in...jam jars) Sozo works a Norn Iron pastiche (eat your ‘Dirty Wee Butty’ - or whatever - outside if you like under the ‘Wee Blanket’ provided) that is just a bit wearing if you’re over 30.

I’d be a regular enough customer and haven’t had an issue so far! The foods lovely and has good variety! Service is effective and the staff are nice! Very consistent and reliable.

We went for dinner. The young lady who greeted us was superb, friendly but respectful. Thecfood was delicious. My wife had seafood chowder which was rich and creamy and very tasty. I had a sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection. A bonus was that we could order a carafe of wine which was more than enough. There is a warm friendly atmosphere in the restaurant which is down to the great staff. Thoroughly recommend a visit

Every 4 weeks my daughter and myself go to Sozo for our Friday night treat. My daughter always has the steak, onion rings & chips which are fresh and delicious. I have been trying different dishes such as Haddock in a bag, BBQ Ribs and the Smoked Hake. One night the waitress recommended the Seafood Linguini which I tried but wasn't to my taste so there was a discount on our bill. The staff are friendly and approachable, the restaurant is clean and tidy and the food is very reasonably priced. We love the place.

Good food, service and atmosphere, however not that happy when staff that deal with food and customers are chewing gum......not a good especially when I observed her blowing bubbles and cracking the gum!!!

Sozo Antrim road, Great food, great music, great staff Very accommodating with infants and children. Books and toys available to entertain them. Food reasonably priced and you don’t have to wait very long.

I stopped in for lunch with my sister last Friday afternoon. There was a short wait as the place was packed even for a late lunch around 2pm. The restaurant had been recommended by my sister's coworker as one of his neighborhood favorites.

Sozo is a trendy restaurant serving hearty food. From stew to dirty baps (bap, egg, sausage & bacon with chilli ketchup). Mmmm Friendly staff.

We called in as a group of 5 without booking on a chance, we were shown to a table and ordered our food and drinks. Service was relaxed, menu eclectic, food tasty and unfussy, portions generous. They do have desserts but we didn't have any room left to try them.

Food was really nice but priced up to 40% more due to captive audience at village fair. Bit mercenary. Poor form.

I have eaten here many times, the staff are always helpful and happy, breakfast particularly on lazy Sunday is always great and the atmosphere is good

Called in for lunch. Hadn't been before. We were greeted by a very pleasant friendly young lady. The menu offered a good selection of dishes either lite bites or full meals. The food was excellent. I had a club sandwich was very tasty. My wife had chicken strips which came with salad, skinny chips, coleslaw and a nice dip. Very filling and tasty. Overall a very pleasant experience which we intend to repeat

Have eaten at Sozo in total 3 times now, each on a busy Saturday night and each a very special family occassion. The staff couldn't be more helpful to accomodate. They let us celebrate with our own cake after the meal was finished. There is usually a choice of exciting cocktail on offer too! It's a great place that offers a friendly family bistro atmosphere with modern decor and real plants and and outdoor garden/bar area and great wee nook for the smokers!

On entry, the café did not look or smell clean. Thought it may be because it was early morning, hadn't had a chance to open windows etc, thought I'd chance a coffee. Wish I hadn't

Decided to take my mum out for lunch, after being really let down in another restaurant, i drove her to Sozo, the service was excellent, staff are incredibly friendly, the food was amazing and reasonable priced.

Great menu, fantastic drinks menu, worth a visit 😀. Not overly expensive. Beer garden for the smoker. Great views of Belfast Lough.

Visited Sozo on a busy Saturday afternoon for lunch and the food was lovely. We got Fish finger Belfast bap with a big chip (fries with bacon and onion!) and Chicken caesar salad. Service was excellent too.

Following a trip to the Gobbins we stopped here for food. As a party of 8 we were looked after promptly and the food came quickly. I recommend the nachos starter. The Skinny Burger doesn’t come with fries which surprised a few in the party but the other burgers did. Lasagne and the chicken goujons also got thumbs ups

Decided to treat myself to breakfast here recently. Walked in at 0900 and was able to be seated right away. Nice view over Belfast Lough. Order was taken promptly and it arrived quickly. Good choice of ingredients in the Large Fry. Good cup of tea also. My only negative was the loud background music being played. Because of this I was able to hear the conversation of the people a few tables away as they had to talk loudly over the music to be heard. I didn't expect a disco so early in the day.

I’ve been to Sozo quite a lot and do like the place. Staff are lovely and service is great. I really struggle to get anything veggie in the evening unless I pick a starter or hummus with a side or go for goats cheese which I cannot eat. I admit I’m getting tired of places not offering a decent range of veggie options. Parmesan is not vegetarian! How come chefs don’t know this.

This is a busy restaurant and it's easy to see why. It's a really nice place to go for a weekend breakfast. On my last visit i had the porridge and it was easily the nicest porridge that I have ever had. Very much recommended.

I was really excited to try this place as it looks straight out onto the lough. Decided to go for breakfast and ordered the Avo, Carrot and Apple on Sourdough. Normally I would like this but it just didn't quite work..as if everything wasn't perfectly fresh. Also, it was not sourdough. However I liked the Interior and the view so I will be back to give it a second chance!

My partner and I visited Sozo on the Sat. evening of the May bank holiday and were surprised to find the restaurant quite empty. TBH I thought great, service will be quick, which it was. The servers were pleasant, informative, helpful and all with a smile and some interaction. The menu online is wrong and has something to do with Googles web page editing that they can not get sorted. The wine list is good. The starters were great, more than enough! The main I ordered, (half bird, periperi) was rather dry tho. I was expecting better quality chefing really since there were only 4 tables being served hot food, 2 others had desserts and coffee. We didn't stay for dessert as they close at 2130 hrs. All in all it was an ok meal made better by the helpful and polite serving staff.

We were arguing over Indian and fish and chips and chose Sozo because it had f&c; on the menu with other things. Had prawns and chorizo and garlic bread to start. Lovely soft prawns and spicy chorizo. Fish very fresh in hot crisp batter. Sirloin flavor also very good. Sauce a little too thick and flour. Chicken moist. Chips big, chunky and to die for. Crisp on outside, fluffy inside. Service friendly, thorough and attentive. Full of families, couples, a great little local eatery.

Went as a group of 4 for lunch on 2nd May. Food for all was beautiful and were served very efficiently by lovely, helpful staff. Would recommend.

Have been here several times and always enjoy my meal. As I can't have any food with wheat or egg the waitress checked with chef and I got a pulled pork sandwich minus bread. The lack of bread was made up with the helping of pork and salad. Very tasty. Nothing too much trouble for staff

As usual, great good, nice setting, lovely staff and reasonably priced. I come here regularly. What an amazing view to have breakfast lunch or dinner and a cosy beer garden for the better weather. A must stop on any day.

I had booked for my family of 5 to have a quiet birthday dinner for my daughter! Two of my daughters were back home from Uni this week! One of my daughters is coeliac and the other has severe nut, seed and fish allergy, which I had mentioned on booking. The staff were fabulous last night very attentive and very clued in to what the girls with allergies can eat! The food was fantastic and so fresh! We had a cake for my daughter and the staff were very attentive with this! Great variation on menu to suit all, also have specials! Portion sizes huge! We will be back

We take my parents for lunch/brunch every few weeks and it never fails to please. Big plate of fish and chips, great chowder and tasty pasta. Good that they have a few breakfast dishes available in the afternoon too. Will return soon enough.

Saturday night place fairly busy but got a table near the entrance. Chicken and chips and chicken strips with a portion of fried onions all OK but nothing special. Seating fairly basic but comfortable enough

I was there a couple of times and the food was lovely and staff very friendly and professional only reason why I didn’t give it 5 stars is I don’t like the seating as I wouldn’t be the thinnest of people and the booths were so small even for leg room under the table.

Stopped in for lunch during the week, and surprised on how busy it was. We had to wait for a table, and when we left there was a queue almost out the door, so it shows you how good this place must be. The food and service was good, and the prices were reasonable.

Booked table for two on a Friday night for evening dinner. We had asked for a seat facing the sea which makes an excellent setting for a romantic meal. Bingo, seating as requested.

have the basics of service gone out the window? when we arrived and were seated we sat for nearly 15 before we were gave a menu, when we got the menu the server forgot to ask did we want to order drinks, I had to call him back and ask him to take the drinks order. again after about another 15 mins we had to go ask the server to take our food order!!! when the food came it was ok. low and behold when we finished our main we fancied a dessert... abandoned!!!! we sat for nearly 20mins so just paid up and left. wasn't even asked how it was for us at the till.

I've eaten here a number of time and the food is always tasty and well priced. Great for a casual bite with family.

Absolutely loved my visit to sozo. The food was top class, I had a burger with cheesy BBQ brisket on top and I haven't had a burger like it, proper steak meat, cooked perfect, I was intrigued by the topping and must say it was risk i didnt regret. Plates where warm and portions where generous. Staff where very helpful and friendly, We got a seat right by the window over looking the sea, and it really added to the experience, can't wait to go back.

Was here in June for a team breakfast with work colleagues, about 15 in total. Great selection of food and everyone was well catered for, including one colleague who was gluten intolerant. Excellent service. Well priced and well worth a visit.

Had a great night out at Sozo. The food is quite quirky and fun but very tasty. You have to experience the Dirty Chips...! You can bring your own bottle and pay £3 corkage - tried to negotiate to £1.50 as it was screw top but no go! Loved the whole experience and will go back again soon.

Me my part we took kids here have to say phone was nice only thing I wasn't happy about was I asked for my steak to be medium to well it was over cooked but everything else was fine.staff friendly and helpful prices not to bad either that s are 2nd time trying it.

Popped in for a Friday free cooking at home treat and boy was this a good shout !! Prawns in a little dinky pan with chilli oil & crusty bread to dunk !! Hot hot hot & hit the spot with added fries ..... throughly enjoyed this little hidden gem ... we'll be back for sure !

Visited here recently with friends for brunch. It was fine, not exceptional but perfectly adequate! The staff were pleasant, the service, reasonably quick and the food was ok. For me the egg was a bit over cooked, the bacon, a bit underdone and the bread a little dry. I'm sure they could improve on this! Nevertheless I ate it all! Which probably says more about me, but I still think they could do better!

This is a cute little cafe with gorgeous views of the lough. It can get a bit noisy inside due to the acoustics of the room. The outside area is peaceful though and dog friendly. Nice for breakfasts and lunches combined with a walk on the seafront

This was the second time in a couple of weeks for our visit with friends, and it was consistently great.All were delighted with choice, quality of food and service. Prices were very reasonable too.I'll be a regular in future!

So I eat regularly in Sozo. Ordered the special this time as a change from my usual sausage beans and chips. The special: steak burger with humus l, lettuce , tomato , (never had humus) but now it's my favourite It was the most delicious burger I've ever had in my life! Couldn't eat it fast enough: absolutely delicious ! And of course Chris the chef - the legend ! Just ask for the Burger Blackie had !! :) mYou'll not be disappointed Thanks Sozo Blackie

All was fine, until we were leaving, a ceramic flower pot (with soil and plant) fell from a high shelf above the door and just missed 2 of my kids. Above the door are shelves hung by ropes, these swing around a bit with the doors and draughts, so much so that a potted plant fell and smashed at my daughter's feet, had it hit her, she would (would) have been injured, perhaps severely. Interested to hear sozo's take on this.

Went with my wife for lunch. Place not busy, but by no means empty. Seated as soon as we entered and waitress took our order straight away. We both went for the chicken goujons as a last blow out before out holiday health kick. Food with us very quickly and was fantastic. We both really enjoyed the food and i would certainly recommend the goujons. Staff very attentive, but not in your face, food fantastic and general atmosphere was very good. We wilk be back (after our holidays).

I got a feeling of out for dinner in spain on the main street while at sozo,great relaxed feel with very very pleasent staff who are very helpful with advice menu wise,great hot food and i would say dirty chips are a must,will be back again no doubts.

Mid week family dinner - table of 6. The menu doesn't seem all that big but we all found something to suit and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food (apart from my son who is very picky about sausages). Service was friendly, efficient & attentive. Not once could we not get hold of a waitress when drinks or other bits were required. There was a pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant - my only minor complaint was that I was a bit cold (but think that was 'just me').We've eaten here a few times before but based on our last visit we would definitely go back sooner rather than later. Nice one Sozo!

I walked past this place the day before, because it is next door to a similar restaurant, with a very similar decor. Despite that once I had found my way in, I found this place to be really very good and I wish I had had more time to spend there. I ate the mussel chowder, thoroughly enjoying every piece of it and left the restaurant very full of food and felt it was good value. If I return to this area I will be making a return visit. VG.

Visit here frequently wife my wife for lunch. The food is really good and the service very good.Views over Belfast Lough are lovely. I would recommend this for lunch and no doubt will eat there again.Parking can be a little annoying but worth the effort.AP. N.I.
