Bothy in Newtownabbey

My first and last visit. I visited last week with my husband and the service was horrible my stew was microwaved and cold in the centre. We had to brush off the seats before sitting. Slow service and the staff couldn’t be bothered. Pity.

Ordered soup, it was cold, it was heated up when I told a staff member. Ordered tea and pasties, the tea was cold and I was brought down the wrong pastry. Was not impressed don't think we'll be back.

Brilliant place to meet up & relax 😀

First time have been disappointed. Ordered regular cappuccino and flat white. Temperature of coffee was tepid. Need to check their coffee machines.

This is the best coffee shop I've discovered in many a moon. The breakfast was great, the staff friendly, the music inspired and the coffee hit the spot like a heat seeking missile. The place was spotless and fresh, the parking plentiful. All in all a fantastic experience and I most definitely will be returning!! *RECOMMEND

We arrived at the bothy as part of a group first of all the only seating area we could get needed the table cleared.As the staff appeared very busy we cleared the tables ourselves. Unfortunately our order did not come together they forgot to bring the kids drinks we had to go up and get the drinks and they has their food eaten before they got drinks. We then waited a further 20mins for the toast we ordered at the start. Our group had already started to leave at this point. our experience was less than satisfactory.

Very chic cafe. Decor welcoming and service good ...oh, as was our coffee. Good breakfast brioche bap and tea. Two eggs, bacon and sausage, very good.

Food is great but staff interrupt and talk amongst themselves in the middle of ordering and just ignore the customers, happened 3 times on 3 separate instances

Very very very slow and not that busy. •Arrived 1pm ish •Ordered tea bagel and mince pie •Took mince pie to table which hadn’t been cleared or cleaned. •Staff then had lunch break few tables away. •30 mins later staff came to check my order •5 mins later tea arrives •Further 10 minutes later bagel arrives. •After 3 visits , the table still had not been cleared from previous customers • Food was good enough so no issues there but awful service. • staff were polite but totally untrained I suspect

Lovely coffee and blackforest cake on a Saturday afternoon

Locate amid industrial and retail units this is a lovely oasis of rest and good coffee ☕. Usual light eats and tray bakes to ward off the hunger pangs. Lunch items are available too.

Been to the Bothy several times. Relaxed atmosphere with a mix of sofas and tables and chairs. Very good coffee and food quality. I tried a soda with bacon and poached eggs which was extremely tasty.

We were in on Saturday for a coffee and a hot chocolate and we waited for ages on it coming. No food left 3 hours before the place closed. No clean tables to sit at and the place was a mess. Will head to Tim hortons next time!

Very poor service, waited 20 minutes for 2 coffees. Staff seem to be more interested in serving take away coffees. In all fairness the server did apologise for the waiting time but 2 lukewarm coffees was not what I ordered. In fact the order of 1 latte and 1 cappuccino ended up being 2 cappuccinos but at that stage I couldn't be bothered reordering my latte. Certainty won't be back, Costa or Cafe Nero will be getting my business in future. Wouldn't recommend Bothy to anyone.

Yeah, sorry, we don't have that, and nope we are out of that as well, and yeah that also... hard pushed to find something they were advertising that they actually did have.

Just happened to be in the area and popped in for a bit of brunch the food and tea was excellent and the staff very good, it was a so calming and relaxing atmosphere il be back

10 minutes queue to take 6 orders before its my turn... then 20 minutes wait for a lukewarm flat white.

Well isn’t this one fabulous spot! My kind of cafe. Lovely and spacious. Nice mood lighting. Cracking design. Plenty of power points and a few people working quietly away. Some music but not as loud as Costa Coffee or Caffè Nero! Lovely cakes and buns. The most amazing Caesar salad. Tea was lovely too. Staff were so friendly too. I’ll definitely be back. So glad I was introduced to this great spot!

Their coffees are so good, as are their tray bakes! Gorgeous and warm interior. They offer alternative milks such as coconut and soya however the only thing that puts me off is how expensive they are

Went in on Saturday with my daughter and 2 young grandchildren in a double pram. Ordered coffees , hot chocolate for 1of kids and 2 buns. After paying i was informed that they would be in take away containers as they were shutting in 30 mins. Baby needed a bottle so my daughter was feeding her when shutters were put down and flors mopped around us. Staff could clearly see that baby was taking a bottle. To say my daughter felt pressured was an understatement. We could not eat either bun as they were totally stale. I informed the staff this and was told that they shouldnt be. She could see them on plates untouched. No offer of a refund . I will not be back. If a coffee shop do not want customers in still drinking goods that they purchased- then they should stop serving at a certain time or pay their staff to stay until customers are finished ! I have never been in a premises that have stood around pressuring us to get up and go, especially with a newborn baby feeding

We went out on Saturday for a coffee ,Bothy is always clean and tidy. The girls were all so pleasant, and it made a big difference to our day .

Fantastic coffee...Great and comfortable surroundings...lovely staff.

Went today for brunch, very poor. Food is pre made then heated up in the oven. Nothing made fresh. I had the breakfast bap, it was burnt on the outside and cold in the middle. Also the tables arnt cleaned and wiped down, we struggled to find a clean table to sit at. Crumbs all over the floor at every table. One table had not been cleared from we arrived till we left. Such a nice place but the service is terrible and lazy...

Popped in while out looking at cars and we were just in time for breakfast....it was beautiful, the poached eggs were cooked to perfection and you got a great portion size. They make great coffee and the staff were all lovely.

I'm local to here and LOVE their scones and they do dairy free milk options in their coffees. Bright, calm surroundings with good staff and plenty of parking outside.

I asked to see the menu as I had a disabled friend with me who has mobility issues. I was given a run down on what was available but as she couldn't choose her meal from the display and life looked like becoming more awkward than it already was we left the cafe and purchased a meal elsewhere. Surely it's not beyond ability of the management to provide a written menu for disabled customers

A dog friendly place that offers great food and friendly service. Set in a nice location with sheltered outdoor space for dog visitors. Will be visiting again next time I am in the area.

Have been many times. Limited food menu, but what they do serve (wraps, bagels, scones, traybakes & cakes) is very good! Nice coffee & atmosphere.

Atmospheric, lounge chairs, smaller cafe table and chairs, with a long table in the middle for those wanting to do a bit of office work on the laptop. Coffee is lovely and they do nice light meals.

Really pleasant staff and the most amazing bacon & cheese croissants. I also had a chicken and bacon brioche roll with the nicest relish, omg it's 2 die 4. Give this place a try, I'm sure u won't b disappointed 😇

An absolute delight of a venue. Ample parking, easy access from the motorway too. Awesome selection of food. Coffee was superb and even picked up a back of their own beans. Highly recommend!

Always busy, good service and menu

Very disappointed with my soggy poached egg, miserable bits of bacon and chunks of avocado - didn't look anything like the picture of this breakfast advertised outside the shop. The sourdough toast was fine.

Beautiful decor but that's where the experience ends. I ordered a scone and coffee and my son ordered a bacon bap and drink, I noticed in the 3 scones that were left in the cabinet that they were of differing sizes, 1 big and 2 small. The girl said she'd bring the food down, my son got his bacon bap and ate it before any further food arrived. Then came my son's drink, after that my scone (unfortunately one of the small ones:(), then the waitress came with 2 coffees that weren't what we'd ordered. Eventually 10 minutes after receiving my scone the waitress arrived with my coffee. I was basically eating by myself as my son has finished his food long ago. This was a very disappointing visit.

Called in here with my wife early-afternoon for a coffee. Have been here on a significant number of occasions previously and standards, service and atmosphere were always great. On this occasion we were the only people in the queue but waited 20 minutes to get two coffees. No atmosphere in the place whatsoever, apparently no heat as the place was freezing, no cups (we were served in mugs - please, please, please a general plea to all coffee shops, stop this practice!), no milk and no urgency whatsoever from the two members of staff. A sad decline and the second (and last) time that this has happened to us in the past couple of months. Sorry Bothy - you have lost this customer and I suspect others will follow if you don't get your act together soon.

Had a horrendous experience at Bothy today. Ordered my food and drinks which came brought to the table. Was all very nice. So nice we decided to buy more drinks. 1 tea and 1 coffee. My mother is 75 and needed warmed up so I went up and ordered her a tea first of all. The lady serving me said no problem we will bring it over to you. I waited 15 minutes and no tea.. baring in mind I didn’t say hardly any other customers come in. I went back up to order my coffee and check on my mums tea, the tea was lying on the counter and the lady just said there it is…..so I took my mums cold tea down to her and ordered my coffee. My mum drank her whole tea in about 17 minutes and then I realised I never got my coffee which I had paid for. We just left. Totally annoyed and upset I had to chase so hard for 1 tea and 1 coffee in a shop not busy…..and you still owe me for the coffee I paid for and never got….

Coffee is nice, interior is nice. A bit of a weird location but is handy.

Took my son and my mum here for a coffee at 15:10 today to be told by ignorant male staff member “we close at 4” as he was putting all the buns and traybakes away. Surely 50 minutes before closing is a bit premature to start putting everything away? He wasn’t listening and missed one of the coffees, told me there was no soup, no jam, no GF traybakes. Honestly wouldn’t be back after this experience, not unless they get rid of their male staff member who has no social skills and no customer service skills.

Not too busy. We had a bacon bagel and coffee each. My bagel had about a third of the bacon that my husbands had so we swapped some to even it out. Even though they weren't busy i had to ask for a knife to add the cream cheese which was met with a scowl. One of the waitresses was efficient and courteous the other one could maybe smile and be more polite when they forget something! Wouldnt like to be here when its busy. The bagel and coffee were good so four stars.

Good food it ure willing to wait for it

Was here on Saturday with my husband and daughter. Have to say we were not impressed at all. Girl on the till had the personality of a wet mop. Please train your staff in the correct way to speak and interact with members of the public (if you want those people to come back) We ordered a Cappuccino, a Latte, tea and traybake. While my daughter and I sat down my husband waited for our order. After a substantial delay a pleasant young chap appeared with a tray and carried it to our table. Surely if this is normal service the girl on the till should have told my husband to go to out table. Unfortunately I cannot say the coffee was worth the wait. What was supposed to be a Latte and a Cappuccino turned out to be 2 white coffee. No nicely layered Latte in a tall mug and no nicely frothy cappuccino. They were both exactly the same. I can honestly say we will not be returning

Dropped in for coffee and a muffin while the boss was working up there, nice decor, lovely place inside and staff COVID aware and masked up, however, service was very slow and half the order was forgotten, but when the food arrived it was fresh, tasty and nicely served, and the staff were apologetic, recommend a visit, doesn't look great from the outside, but very nice inside, very clean and tidy

Visited yesterday around 11am. Was served by a lovely polite girl initially. The drinks were slid down across the table by another guy partially spilling the milk. We got an "oh I've spilled the milk". We told him not to worry but at this point it was obvious his job was a hassle and he was walking off regardless. Anyway a short while into the visit I went up to order some more food. The same guy who was on his phone mumbled something from behind his mask. I had wrongly presumed he asked what I'd like to order and so I begun ordering. He raised his eyebrow and waved his phone (obviously implying he was busy) and once again mumbled something. I was so shocked I apologised awkwardly and took a step back. I stood for a min or two then he approached. I tried asking him for a croissant and before I even got to finish the sentence he cut across me & said you just lift it yourself... I said no I'm wondering if you do a plain one for my daughter... he said no just what's there. It must have been obvious how shocked and speechless I was because he then tried to over-compensate by asking would we like pancakes or toast. I decided at this point that as much as my daughter probably would have liked a pancake or toast I wasn't prepared to spend any more money. Are management/owners aware of this dreadful, humiliating customer service?!

Second vist to The Bothy coffee and just missed the breakfast menu this time which stops at 11.30 went for a cream cheese bagel with bacon which was very nice indeed. Loads of parking and well worth pulling off the motorway for. Took a star off for the limited fresh lunch menu, bagels or pancakes if you don't want a pre packed sandwich.

Great coffee, friendly helpful staff, a great casual coffee stop to sit and chill - perfect for babies and children too. Spacious toilet and changing facilities and a kids corner with chalkboard for the littles

I called here on Wed 9th September and found the whole experience quite disappointing. I posted the following note to the managers... I've just been in and had your sourdough, poached eggs and bacon and a coffee. The way in which this was served left a lot to be desired. It just looked like it had been fired on the plate with even a poached egg on top of a butter sachet!! I paid good money for this and I expect better. I have a photo which I thought about posting on Social Media but I thought I would give you a chance to comment first. I received an enquiry from Stephen asking which branch I had visited. I expected to hear back from him with some form of an apology or an explanation as to why I received this poor service but I'm really disappointed again not to have heard a word. I even resent the email again last night just in case they didn't receive it but again - not a word!! It really is a pity that in these days when businesses are struggling to stay afloat that they can care so little about customer satisfaction. I like others will vote with my feet and am very unlikely to eat here again, nor could I recommend it!

Just a short spin from the rope bridge, white bay beach or the giants causeway. Great spot for lunch. We had soup, coffee and of course cake. Very friendly staff and the food was very nice. If you are driving by, do yourself a favour and stop by.

Bang, bang average. Bought a coffee, a BLT and a fifteen. The bread is not real sourdough (just a marketing ploy), the sandwich was obv not fresh enough as the tomato in the sandwich had made the bread soggy. The fifteen was dry and waaay too sweet. 1st and last time in here.

Got a pancake 🥞 stack. Bacon 🥓 was great and maple syrup just topped it off!

Nice coffee and lovely atmosphere. Service was good although the clearing of tables was somewhat slow. A nice selection of bakes and cakes. I had the raspberry ruffle tray bake and it was really good. Decor is modern and contemporary. Parking is free. I would go back.

Great little spot. Very flexible opening hours. Not the cheapest by any means but to be expected seeing as there isn’t much else similar around open in the evenings. The coffee is consistently good and the doughnuts are worth a pop too.
