The food is very good here but my sister wanted only a small sandwich and asked for the children’s menu sandwich. She was refused as an adult cannot order from the children’s menu. There was no rationale for this and she had nothing to eat. Very disappointing as I was taking her as a guest and had recommended this place.

Went to Southwell and nipped in here for breakfast. I wont lie, we baulked at the prices and settled for coffee and toast. Took an age to arrive and the toast was barely cooked when it was placed in front of us. Not to point too fine a point on it, it just wasn't very good. If you can get toast so wrong I'm just pleased we decided not to take out a mortgage for a full English. Disappointing.

The table service does not work. Go back to the old way and lower your prices. Hardly anybody in a full restaurant had any food. The menus were limited. Saw this as a bad sign and left. Also to charge £6.50 for an ice cream without a cone? No way. Other restaurants in the town center offered good food at a reasonable price.

In the area to visit an exhibition at Southwell Minster and popped in for a drink but decided to have some breakfast. Staff were great, friendly, welcoming and polite. The food was fantastic, I couldn’t fault it at all. It was fresh and tasty, piping hot and although perhaps on the slightly pricier side, I felt it was worth it for the quality. I will definitely visit again.

Nice place, outdoor tables in the August sunshine, plenty of comfortable indoor seating. Breakfasts are really nice, try the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon with orange juice. This place however should definitely have table service, you take your seat and someone takes your order. Civilised, sensible and customer friendly. When you want another coffee you don't have to interrupt your meal, get up, wait in line to be served and carry your coffee back to your table. I don't know why British cafe owners insist on causing maximum inconvenience for their customers by opting for counter service. Anyway, consider it.

My daughter and her husband treated my wife and I to Sunday lunch at the Refectory along with our 2 young grandchildren. Between us we had a variety of food; my wife and son in law opted for Mussels in Cider and Cream sauce, my daughter had some very tender squid, the kids both had a cheeseburger and I went for the roast beef and Yorkshire pud. The restaurant was busy and the acoustics make it rather noisy but the young waiters and waitresses were obliging and polite. The food quality was excellent and none of us could find fault. Food presentation was of a high standard and the portions were more than adequate. Personally, my roast beef was very tender and very tasty, the Yorkshire had obviously been made using good beef fat, the mashed potato was buttery, and the veg was just right. There was a good variety of desserts but we gave them a miss. For me, being a first time visitor, the biggest surprise was the quality of the food, it really was tasty ,

We used to be real regulars here, when it was a cosy, typical Minister refectory. It had pine tables, nice pictures on the wall, a cosy feeling and a sense of community with lots of locals in there. And then it underwent a refurb and tried to become trendy. It's now quite a cold place with no buzz. The staff aren't over friendly and the prices are high for what you get. I am lucky enough to love fairly locally and enjoy going into the Minster Refectory when I am in Southwell. The initial draw for me was that there is plenty of room for pushchairs (and I'd imagine it's also accessible for wheelchairs), this is sadly often a big issue in Southwell as many of the cafe's are quite small or on different levels (part of the attraction of the town are the independent and quirky shops but it can make it difficult to get a quick sandwich and a sit down).

My wife and I often travel and usually find somewhere for lunch. This place is a cut above a café, It close to fine dining in the preparation and presentation. The ingredient quality is good too (I had home smoked Salmon last visit). It is simply a café in the Minster grounds that provides refreshment, the difference is that it is all home cooked and imaginative and prepared by a trained chef who likes his work. The fish and chips are as good as I have had and the ginger pudding was homemade and had ginger in it, most cafes would buy in and microwaved. Usually very busy but we always find room. Also do a local craft beer, very nice. Car park is on the opposite side of the road easy to find.

We stayed at the hotel for two nights to attend a family wedding. The hotel is in the centre of Southwell. It has very nice outdoor seating. We ate on the terrace on the first night and the food was very good. It is a very old building so very traditional. Staff service was superb at all times. The wedding was very well organised. Our room was comfortable and beautifully decorated with a nice bathroom. There is plenty of parking behind the hotel. The points I would make for improvement are :- 1. It was incredibly difficult to book once the wedding couple had requested that rooms should be reserved for the wedding party. This just wasn’t possible by telephone and I ended up writing a letter to request a booking. 2. The top floor rooms were very hot. A fan was provided which was very effective but it was puzzling that the corridor was cool and the rooms were hot. We had to have the fan on most of the time 3. The wedding meal service was a little bit slow. Each guest had a card at the place setting with their chosen dishes and I wonder if the managers could speed up the service by having the dishes listed on the card colour coded? However, we had a really nice stay in a beautiful location. I would definitely stay again and I would recommend the hotel to others looking for a great location for a wedding or other event.

I went on sun and they did my daughter's meal wring and then they didn't have any wraps left for her to have it so had to get a refund. Then I ordered my food at 11.27 and asked for a cooked breakfast to be told that had now stopped and was now a carvery which I ordered with a take out coke. Told they would bring out my meat for me. Waited 30 mins for this only not had it brought to me. And during this time I ordered a burger for one of our party and he received that and o was still waiting .Went to complain and ask for my money back only to be told by the the staff that I didn't order one and she was really rude. I explained it was the other girl who served me and told her how I paid and what money I paid with consisted of. Only to be told again I hadn't ordered anything. Then she spoke to the other who confirmed this and she then said she would give me a refund no apology or anything.
