South Hill Fish and Chips Takeaway in Chiltern

I have been coming here for forty years, at periods, regularly every week. The fish and batter are always superb. In recent visits all the chips have been too small to bother with. I might try again in a few months, but for now it’s the airfryer - although even then I throw away 30% of the frozen chips for being too small

I have never tried their fish and chips so cannot comment. However, I have experienced their Chinese food on a number of occasions and always found it to be tasty, of reasonable quality, good portion size and fairly priced. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. Give it a go and see what you think.

Chinese is nice, chicken is nice, pies, etc but the fish is worst ever. So much thick greasy batter and not sure what fish is in there. It's a shame, want to support our local chippie but not the best. Friendly staff though.

I visited South Hill for a takeaway fish n chips for the family. Very warm welcome and excellent fish n chips won’t go anywhere else! Like the ads in the wall too!

My family and I moved to the area in February and this is now our favourite take away! The staff are all so kind and friendly and it has a real family feel. They have always been very kind and accommodating when we asked for things that are not on the menu. Value for money is also a big one for me as I have five children. Over all I’d recommend 10/10

i called the shop to order and a young girl answered the phone and asked us to wait while she asked about our order we heard loud yelling down the phone then after the girl sounded quiet and upset. honestly not okay and unprofessional

We have never tried a Chinese takeaway from here but decided to give it a try as we live close by and I’m pleased we did as it was delicious. The lemon chicken, chilli beef, sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style and special fried rice were all cooked to a high standard and were all extremely tasty. We will definitely be going again in the not too distant future.

I do actually think this guy is the friendliest chippy owner on the planet. Deserves all the great reviews he gets.

Back in the eighties I used to live in Hazlemere and this chip chop was a regular haunt for our family. It was never first choice, however, because we always thought the batter and chips were too greasy. Tasty, but way too greasy. Hence regular - but not frequent. Like most folk we did not bother to vote for our favourite chippy in the BFP best chip shop of 2021 competition. That is a pity because if we all had done so the result would probably have been different. You see in over forty years this place in Holmer Green has not changed one jot....including the greasy chips and batter. I will say this, the quality of the cod was as good as anywhere. Full marks for the fish - certainly tastier than that from Churchill's down the road in Cosy Corner. However, if you want to experience fish and chips like Harry Ramsden used to make head for Smiles in Beaconsfield, Bourne End and elsewhere.

Very nice tasty food at very reasonable prices. Chip sizes in all chip shops are a bit big but well priced.

Having been a very satisfied 'fish and chip' customer for a long time I was aware that over recent months South Hill had started to include a 'Chinese Takeaway' service as well. Last night my wife and I decided to give this a try and it was excellent. We really enjoyed it and also my order was ready on arrival. All the order was great but in particular recommend the Lemon Chicken and the House Special Chow Mein. This is a truly excellent family run business and is well worth a try!!

Quality Fish & Chips, service with a smile . Generous potions LARGE to be honest. Will try their Chines menu tonight, looking forward to the same quality, will keep you in the loop. Good Value.

Lovely Chinese!!! Best takeaway we have had for a long time. Used to live in this village, born and bred, always loved their chips. Now they are doing Chinese, and it was delicious.

There is a difference between frozen packet of chip or hand chipped. These chips are hand chipped and delicious and the fish are always fresh. Friendly service and quality food. What else do you need ?

Always a friendly welcome. Always freshly cooked food on hand. Quick and accommodating staff. One of the best fish and chips around. (And I drive passed a couple of others to go here)

I have used this chippy since it opened, I can't remember when that was but I was a young schoolboy and I'm now early 50s.The food from here is lovely, large portions and great value for money.Don't be put off by the change of ownership, the food is just the same and Mike, the previous owner, still works there.

I have been using this chippy for years. The new people running it now have not got a clue. The fish was dripping in oil and was mushy, the chicken was dried up and really hard - must have been sitting in the warming plate for ages, the chips were cold and soggy. So disappointing when you have been looking forward to your evening meal !? Need to step up or you will lose customers !!

Been going here for years. Great food friendly staff. There curry sauce is lovely and the sweet and sour sauce is just as good

Nice little place ... Good fish and chips Always cooked to order while you wait... Friendly staff and excellent service. There is some parking right outside the shop which is handy and right next to a convenience store Would recommend.

Couldn't be bothered to cook one Friday so went to South Hill fish and chips shop. Had fish and chips with sweet and sour sauce. Tasty

Called in last week to buy Fish and Chips. The fish was OK if somewhat oily when we took it home. Sadly, the chips were poor: hot? Yes. Well cooked? No, the potato was well and truly over cooked. What a shame as always been good in the past.A final observation. The food is placed in a polythene bag for transporting and unless you live very close to the shop, the food is invariably ‘steamed’.Will give it a final try in a few weeks time.

I have lived in Holmer Green for about 3 years but for some reason never ventured to South Hill. I guess because in part my impression from looking at the sign is that is was a Chinese Takeaway. But some of the school Mum's were chatting and saying how good their fish and chips were. So we decided to give them a try and will certainly be going back!! We have used Churchill's in Hazelmere before but this will be the one we return to. The fish was cooked to order so was still very hot when we got it home. It was a very good portion and for a great price. Much less expensive than Churchill's. I would certainly recommend going. On a side note their food hygiene is a 5 and was recently inspected.

Lovely freshly (usually) cooked food and served by a really friendly ‘gang’ always a laugh and chat.

The guys at South Hill have served 5 generations of my family. I have never encountered better fish and chips anywhere. I know of people who drive past 5 or 6 other chip shops just to come here.

Lovely Cod, fresh chips. My grandson had a large sausage. And half my batter. loads of chips. Great value

south hill fish and chip shop is the best around for miles if not the best in Buckinghamshire great food with great friendly service. the chips are always tasty fish is fresh I like there pies. But in my mind there Chicken Curry is second to none.

Great fish and chips, and I love their pancake rolls. You always get a friendly welcome. Parking is available outside the chippy.

Was craving for some Fish and Chips for awhile, but could never seem to find a "descend chippie".
