Souter's Inn Restaurant in South Ayrshire

Excellent meal. Very busy. We just dropped in for lunch as we were passing, no reservation. Food presented well by good staff. If we were to be passing again I would book. Reasonable price if not a touch on the expensive side. Choices in the area are slightly limited if you are driving through, but we made a good choice going to Souters. I would recommend a visit but also that you book.

Met friends for breakfast and made very welcome , the food was great , the service was excellent, thank you Katherine , the price was very reasonable ,but above all very clean, plenty of room to sit and talk, and not rushed, would i recommend 100% i would, a lovely experience, will i return definitely .

My chicken katsu burger was lovely and a great portion size. I also enjoyed the fruit salad dish. Everyone in our group had a tasty meal when we visited.

We visited for lunch and loved it! The food was very tasty, great value for money and friendly customer service. We were happy to find out that most dishes on the menu are available in a ‘smaller’ portion - which was ideal for lunchtime.

Staying at Turnberry but decided to go off resort to local restaurant and are we glad we did.The food is fabulous we had salmon and lamb dinners.Following night went back to try the cheeseburgers just as good.This place is a ten don’t pass up a chance to enjoy a night out here.The director of the restaurant Mico is a wealth of knowledge on wine and area history really enjoyed talking with him.Looking forward to returning again next time we’re in the area.Do yourself a favor and give this place a try you won’t regret it.Your welcome.

The layout and look was excellent and service was first class. All the food was good to great and it felt reasonable on price

Busy Saturday lunchtime. Food good on the whole. I had fish stew followed by ribs - stew very good, ribs OK. Duck and lamb curry were both enjoyed. First time any of us have had a Scottish Scotch Egg and it will be the last. As you will see from the photo it was most unappetising and inedible. Desserts were huge. Coffee was very good.

Visited the Souters several times during our stay locally for The Open Golf championship up the road at Troon. There's a lively atmosphere in the place which was busy every time we went but always accommodating. There's also a bit of confusion in the air as it would appear any server operates at any table so you're not always sure where your food is coming from or who to ask. Drinks are mainly table service and this also suffers from the same confusion. However none of this distracted from our experiences. The food is very good, with a great choice and different daily specials. It does appear that the chef has a penchant for a lemon butter sauce which seems to be the base for most of the dishes. Very good value, and I wouldn't knock the service. We enjoyed our visits, came away well fed and watered, and came back for more.

Visited 4nights running. Excellent food and service. Had many of the dishes and all were very tasty and good portions. Small portions offered as well . Staff all very friendly and helpful.

Was taken here on a business trip for dinner in a large group. Absolutely beautiful setting and very well presented pub. The interior has been decorated with great care to keep it in line as an old thatched pub, with roaring fires and lots of stone work. The food was just excellent, great variety and well presented. I opted for a seafood cocktail (just lovely) followed by a delicious 10 oz sirloin and the best chips I have ever had. A tiny pit of gravy served with the steak was an added bonus and was delicious too. And yes, I even had a dessert! Lemon meringue pie paired with fresh raspberries and raspberry ripple ice cream. Heaven. The service was good too - nothing to fault. Well done and thanks for a great time.

Superb Sunday lunch (1 roast beef; 1 chicken) beautifuly cooked and served. The only slight miss was the 2 double expressos which were prepared into cold cups - a common British error; they should aways be pre-warmed.

We live relatively locally and this is our 'special' place to go. Without exception we have eaten delicious food and experienced friendly, knowlegeable staff who cannot be more accommodating on every single occasion. We look forward to every visit and the sweeties and cakes are an extra bonus.

Came for for an early Sunday tea. Food (Steak pie, Mac & cheese, lamb chops and calamari) were all very good. Really lacking on the staff front through, young unprofessional staff who can’t speak properly in dirty crocs… eek not a good look. Place also smelt of damp throughout (I think it was the thatched roof). Again, food was really nice but staff made me feel like I was in a rough pub and for that reason unfortunately cannot return here.

Got some cakes from the takeaway counter which were tasty and reasonably priced. However, the young server handled the cakes with her bare hands rather than use tongs or gloves.

Arrived at Souters Kirkoswald for a 'chance' (unbooked) supper. It's been a while since I last ate there. I chose lovely homemade soup, followed by excellent lambs liver, with a glass of milk to drink. Ten out of ten, great, many thanks, all staffs I found helpful. The homemade soup was chunky, very much to my liking. The liver was very slightly salty (perhaps the chef used sea salt), but this didn't in any way at all spoil my enjoyment. Tremendous hostelry type atmosphere, only adding to my overall enjoyment. In short, a very good dining experience all things considered, including costs. Have passed by this Inn on a few occasions but did not have the time to stop. On this occasion time was on our side for a 'snacky' lunch. Although on main road there is a large car park at the rear which is a bonus. Nice warm atmosphere with a good selection of dished whether you opted for sandwiches - soup or a full 3 course lunch. We decided on the soup together with a sandwich. Nicely presented home made soup and quick service. It appeared there were a number a locals eating which is always a good sign. Good stopping off point if you are heading for Cairnryan -Stranraer or Turnberry.

My husband and I stopped for breakfast here after an awful overnight hotel experience in nearby town. It was a wet windy morning, and stepping into this warm, welcoming, tasteful and classy place was just what we were needing! The fire was roaring, the festive decorations were charming, and the breakfast burrito was to die for! Great coffee, great service, the owner had a chat with us as we were leaving, what a lovely man. We will definitely be back.

Had a meal here last week with friends and although most really enjoyed it I was less impressed. The mushrooms were nice to start with but the steak pie is very poor compared with other restaurants in Ayrshire.

Food was superb and very reasonable. The restaurant is well sited whilst travelling from Glasgow to Cairnryan. Staff were excellent and very attentive. Will be back on my next trip

This was our first visit to Souters and it won't be our last! The service was excellent and the food was very good. The portions are quite large, I was unable to finish my main.

Really awkward meal last night. Not a great start when arriving and was not given the best of welcomes. Things got worse when I was served the wrong dish, then when I recieved the correct dish they had reused some of the ingredients. Explained I would not pay for it as didn't eat it. Thankfully no argument but our meal out was ruined and no further effort made to make sure I left happy. Will not be in a rush to return I'm afraid.

Not cheap but worth every penny. Good was delicious and service was friendly and efficient. Great experience.

Travelled down to Souters for lunch as we used to go to Costleys Cochrane Inn which has now closed. Cajun chicken was lively, just how I remember it as was pasta dish. Sticky toffee pudding and lemon meringue pie were lively too. Plenty of staff and drinks reasonably priced. Only downfall was that there was no toilet paper in the toilets. Toilet areas really need upgrading and modernised to match the nice restaurant as old, stained and very poor and tatty overall.

Very disappointing. 7 of us went for brunch on a Saturday at 11am. Long wait for food and one arrived some time after rest had been served. My wife's pancake was burnt, eggs were overdone on bottom and stuck together. It was obvious that my two rashers hadn't even been separated while being cooked. Teapot had no teabag in it and it took a long time to source a teabag, we then had to request fresh hot water.

Was expecting this place to serve typical 'tourist trap' rubbish but oh boy was I wrong! Sadly we didn't have a lot of time, but the food was simply sensational. As a fan of trying new fusion food I had the Katsu Chicken Burger, was so very good! Chicken was perfectly cooked, still juicy and tasty, a wee bit messy but so worth it! The chips were probably the best I've ever had, each one the size of a Kit Kat Chunky! So crispy and fluffy inside 😍 Salad was really tasty and well dressed. My GF went for the Steak Pie, huge portion, and being selfless I offered to help finish it, was just sublime too! You can just tell that the guys in the kitchen actually care about what they're sending out, and it really showed. I hope the Chefs get to read this as they deserve significant praise! Read some other reviews on here about the staff "lacking personality" which I didn't find at all, and anyway, they're doing a tough job for probably rubbish money so I'm not expecting them to be entertaining! Also, with prices the way they are at the minute, if you're not factoring in at least 10% tips I think you shouldn't be eating out right now! Can't recommend the Souter Inn enough, beautiful surroundings, great atmosphere, friendly staff and phenomenally good food 👌

My wife and I visited twice in one day as we traveled to and from Portpatrick. We had soup as a light lunch on our first visit. Just what we needed, and delicious. In our return we enjoyed two pies for dinner. A lamb and rosemary special. And steak and sausage. Both incredibly good. Possibly the best steak pie I’ve had in a gastro pub. Honestly it’s that good!! Service was a bit spotty, perhaps because the Inn was incredibly busy. On both visits we sat around the bar area as restaurant table were pretty fully occupied by large family groups ( so it was good to be in a quieter area). We had.two really positive experiences and will certainly return.

Atmosphere good and staff made you feel welcome, service and light lunch was excellent. The restaurant soon became busy with young families and older folks so recommend booking to save disappointment. Costley group keeping up their high standards on customer experience

Food was unusually disappointing. Service usually is below average but tonight it was very disappointing. The front of house had no personality and I got the felling that he couldn't care less, we booked for 6.30 when we arrived we were told there was no table available with no explanation or apology. A young waiter and waitress were working hard but the rest seem had a great ability to avoid eye contact.
