The space is gorgeous but Very noisy.

What a fabulous meal at the wonderful Sotto Sotto restaurant. We both ate pistaccio encrusted steak with the most divine gravy sauce, perfectly cooked medium, rosemary potatoes very moorish, could eat their food forever and not stop! Such a lovely location and environment. The staff were absolutely fantastic, the lovely Veronica and Lauchiano (apols, not sure of spelling). Cocktails and a very special complementary drink at the end that we have never tasted before was absolutely gorgeous. The toilets were extremely clean. Fellow diners were lovely as well. You must go, worth every penny of money. Much more beautiful and inviting than the photo here.

We visited as a family and were greeted by lovely staff and a warm, cosy environment. The service was excellent and there was a substantial range of wines and alcohol available. The food arrived promptly and you could tell the ingredients were high quality. The food tasted fantastic and the portions were very filling. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that the toilets were really quite disgusting. Damp toilet roll, smelly and in generally poor condition. For such a popular establishment I would expect better!

Booked this restaurant for my husband’s birthday on back of all the amazing 5* reviews on here but boy were we mightily disappointed. Food was under seasoned and uninspiring, the prawns on the bruschetta looked pale and boring, searing them would have given more colour and flavour surely. The chicken & sausage dish was just that & nothing else served with it, given the pasty almost slimy texture I guessed it’d been boiled on mass and reheated before being served and covered in a sauce, surely the waitress could have mentioned it came without sides and suggested something to go with this underwhelming dish. The swordfish was so thin and bland. We definitely wished we’d booked somewhere else & would not recommend.

Atmosphere was stunning. Very accommodating- managed to get a table at very short notice. Staff were very attentive. Food was extraordinary. Highly recommend.

Second time at Sotto Sotto. Bit odd when handed the Card Reader for the Bill - it was set at 'TIPS' screen where customer doesn't choose amount, starts at '10% / 20%' buttons... Need to let customers see the 'meal cost' first on screen then customer decides tips. Don't know waiter's name, a stocky fellow, service didn't stand out, didn't engage customers. Visited Tues. July 11th evening, sat far end near small window. At entrance, nice Welcome from staff and also when leaving the restaurant. Some tasty dishes too. We went before and service was very good. We usually like the atmosphere.

I can't rave enough about our dinner here. We started out with the bread/olive oil, and I had a salad. While these were yummy, I later regretted eating them. Why? Because I couldn't finish my dinner. I had the penne with gorgonzola sauce with walnuts and mushrooms. Sadly, I had to leave 9 pieces of pasta - I could eat no more. It ranks as some of the best pasta I've ever had in my life. My husband had the chicken and sausage cooked with a balsamic vinegar and he was quite satisfied with it. He ordered a Tom Collins, and I ordered a Cosmopolitan. It came as a very light pink, which usually indicates too little Cointreau giving it a harsh vodka taste. Well dear readers, it was incredibly smooth with a perfect amount of sweetness. Yes, I ordered a second one. Service was friendly and fast. Our reservation was at 5 PM, so it wasn't overly crowded yet. 5 stars - definitely recommend.

We wanted a nice quality Italian restaurant in bath and we were not disappointed. Close to the river and in a quaint and unusual building below ground, good quality food at reasonable prices. I had the lamb pasta and my wife rigatoni. Nice wine list too. Service level good too.

This restaurant was recommended to us with the warning that it gets booked up well in advance. We rang on the day and managed to get a table! The restaurant is underground, with no windows or natural light but very atmospheric. The staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed some great cocktails before dinner. The food was very good. We shared a large charcuterie platter, before the mains - definitely plenty for two as a starter. My prawn linguine was beautifully cooked. Al dente pasta and a fresh sauce. We were told that the prices were high but we’d disagree. They were very reasonable for the quality of the ingredients. A great evening!

We had a wonderful impromptu lunch here, what a find. The steps down can be a little tricky but it’s worth the effort. Delicious food (that prawn bruschetta!) and great service from Luciano. Hope to return soon.

We spent a few days on j bath and this was a place we really wanted to visit after reading reviews and we are so glad we did!! From walking in to leaving we felt very welcome and cannot fault anything! The welcoming we got from the staff to being seated and given advice on the menu. The waitress was very very good. Never was we without a drink. Very well looked after. The food was absolutely amazing. Very tasty and plentiful. The red wine Syrah was very nice. If you ate in bath you must visit this place if we do come back to bath then we will defo be visiting here again

We really enjoyed our dinner at Sotto Sotto - we love Italian food so we loved our pasta dish and also our starter and extra-virgin oil and bread. The staff was very attentive and kind and they managed to find us a place even if we did not book. We enjoyed chatting to Luciano and learning about his origins from Italy. We will definitely be back.

I came to visit Bath with my friend and pre-booked Sotto Sotto as I had read such great reviews about the restaurant. I called before hand to see if I could push the reservation back but to my surprise, I had booked the wrong day/month! Luciano was incredibly helpful and managed to get us a table for that evening. I’m so grateful and glad as dinner was brilliant! Don’t skip on dessert, the tiramisu was the best I’ve ever had!

Very attentive service from all concerned. Food great as usual. Nice atmosphere for a Saturday lunchtime and good connection between staff and customers. One tiny thing, perhaps a choice of nonalcoholic wine would be nice to go along side the nonalcoholic beer that is served. But definitely a 5⭐

While vacationing in Bath, we came across this fantastic restaurant that served some the finest Italian food. The restaurants sits in the basement and it’s fitting since we we were in the historic district. It gave the sensation we were in a wine cava. We started with some appetizers and the main dishes were simply superb. The service was great and the whole ambiance was just relaxed and inviting. Too bad we live thousands of mile away or I would be a regular.

Sotto Sotto squeezed me in without reservation and made my experience most enjoyable. Thank you so much.

I have visited Sotto Sotto 3 times now and anytime I go to Bath it is the only restaurant I will go to be it lunch or dinner. The first time we were so impressed we ended up cancelling the other restaurant reservation we had to come here and we were so glad we did, the food is exceptional and so is the service, just a wonderful time, it's perfect. Amazing for any occasion but if it's for something special, you should book here. Will always choose Sotto Sotto. Amazing.

Having worked in catering and visited various restaurants, I am rarely impressed with the service other than the usual basic smiles and service that you get and obviously should receive at every restaurant. However, Sotto Sotto indeed did the service you pay for. As in, be really informative about the dishes if you have questions and refilling your water glass without having to ask was a nice touch. Communicates with fellow colleagues so you don't have to be asked every five seconds 'Is everything alright for you?' And the food was out of this world. Cooked to perfection, every dish was the right amount of food and not dry, tasteless or indeed overpowering. In other words, you get EXACTLY what you pay for. And I wasn't rushed. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our meal over the course of an hour and a half rather than feeling rushed and like we are on a conveyor belt waiting to be ushered for the next person. Because the the timings and dish sizes I was able to enjoy all three courses plus drinks and a dessert wine without feeling over full. It truly was how dining should be. Attentive, tasty and an experience. The waitress, Sukanya, who waited on us throughout and delivered our service perfectly was new but excellent. Thank you so much. I will definitely be returning on my next visit to Bath. I have already recommended Sotto Sotto to my friends. Thank you again. Mackenzie

Had one of the best meals I have had in a very long time last night! The restaurant is beautiful and we could not the fault the food at all. Our waiter Marion was excellent as well and everyone is just so friendly. Will 100% be returning when we are next in Bath. Thank you for a lovely evening! ❤️

Fantastic fine Italian dining. I was a bit sceptical at first as the restaurant is at basement level. I was however pleasantly surprised at the ambience! The bar felt as if I was in a cellar in a rich manor. The food was also excellent! My greatest issue was, that I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture of the mains! The starter of calamari I had was something I'd give skip next time. However the linguine I had was excellent. Deliciously fresh sea food, perfectly cooked pasta and high quality Olive oil what a combination! The strawberry sorbet was also to die for! The service Veronica and the new trainee offered was seamless. Constant water refills without asking and no awkward waiting for items to be cleared. A 5 star is a very rare rating for me but Sotto Sotto smashed it. Price is also to be expected from excellent Italian cuisine. A must go restaurant in Bath!

We celebrated our wedding anniversary last night here. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. The food was so delicious and the wine was one of the best I've ever tried. 10/10 if you want to treat yourself!

I really wanted to give this place a better review but unfortunately after eating here my husband and I both had some less than agreeable after effects. A bit of a mood killer after a nice Valentines day dinner. It's a shame because we were expecting great things as we had heard that this place is one of the best in Bath and always gets good reviews and were mostly impressed during our dining experience. We were a little disappointed that we weren't allowed the option of ordering from the a la carte menu and the only option was their £75 per person 3 course plus drink menu. We probably would have spent more ordering from the a la carte but that's their loss. The staff were very attentive and the food was lovely. We were happy that they noted our request for non-alcohlic drink to be included. The atmosphere was nice and overall we had a lovely time...just not so great later at night when we both developed stomach problems! We probably would not go here again because we have been a bit put off after being ill after dating here.

Great service & atmosphere. The food was nice but not amazing which was disappointing. I’m not sure I’d eat there again. There was gf pasta options though which I appreciate. They need to up their game though to compete with the other great restaurants in Bath.

Food was incredible, shout out to the prawn bruschetta and pork belly linguine. Service was great if a little aloof/distracted, but the team were friendly and accomodating when coming in with my baby. The location is really cool, expect a lot of steps and watch your head on the low doorways, even I had to duck in places at 5’2”!

4.5 stars rating here. We recently went for my birthday dinner. I ordered the special of the day: a filet with Gorgonzola medallions and potatoes. They overcooked the steak but quickly apologised and cooked me a new one, the second one cooked to perfection. The Gorgonzola medallions were 2, very small breaded and fried balls of melted cheese. They missed the mark there. Should have had 1 or 2 large cuts of natural Gorgonzola cheese atop the steak with the sauce drizzled over to soften over the steak. I ordered a second glass of wine to go with the new steak. I was hoping they would have comped the second glass of house wine from the bill since it was obviously ordered while I waited for my 2nd steak to cook and it was my birthday but we paid for what I ordered. Overall, I would return and I appreciated the wait staff and managers efforts to make sure the meal was cooked properly.

Went here for our anniversary, was amazing food and amazing service was very impressed!

We was in Bath for New Years Eve and booked here to see in the New Year. When we arrived we thought it was closed but you have to go down steps which leads you to restaurant situated in the vaulted cellars of large old terraces house. We was met at the door our coats taken we were shown to our table with a glass of bubbly. Our table was waited on by a great waiter in believe called Yashmal (forgive spelling) a gentleman who was from Sri Lanka. He was first class attentive but not intrusive nothing to much bother. Now to the food, no complaints at all from any of us, the set menu was very good and delivered. We have in our party a veg/pesc itarian who can be a little hard to please but they managed to so that in itself speaks volumes. Starters was Carpaccio di manzo con carciofi e scaglie di parmigiano Thinly sliced raw beef tenderloin with shaved artichoke shaved parmesan cheese and EVO oil. Crocchette di baccala’ con broccoli puree e salsa pizzaiola. Cod croquettes with tenderstem broccoli puree and pizzaiola sauce Mains Filetto di manzo al Barolo con crocchette di Gorgonzola Sautéed fillet of beef in Barolo red wine sauce with Gorgonzola croquettes. Branzino con speck e zucchine Smoked Parma ham-wrapped fillet of fresh seabass with crispy courgettes and cherry tomato sauce. Sweets Semifreddo alla nocciola Hazelnut semifreddo with chocolate sauce. Cheesecake Baked vanilla cheesecake. Profitterol al limoncello Profiteroles filled with fresh white chocolate Italian custard and coated with Limoncello sauce. Then on run up to midnight more comp bubbly hats and merriment. Was a excellent night.

Every time we visit Bath, we have to visit Sotto Sotto, best food, best atmosphere and without doubt the best service. Having coeliac disease I’m always cautious of where I can eat but at Sotto Sotto I never have any issues. Thank you Lakmal for looking after me and my family we had a wonderful dinner, as always.

Great food and ambience. We had the calamari rings for starters and it came with a delicious dip. The batter paired with a squeeze of lemon made it the perfect starter. For mains, I had the swordfish dish and it was cooked really well. The seasoning was great. On the sides we had some salad and some potatoes too and both didn’t disappoint.

Our first visit to Sotto Sotto last night but certainly won’t be our last. The food was delicious, the atmosphere lovely & the service could not have been better. Everyone was very friendly & helpful, our waiter Lakmal and everyone else we interacted with. Nice touches added to mark the birthday we were celebrating. Their top rating online is well earned in person. Looking forward to future visits.

The place is crowded and busy. It very difficult to serve and offer a table for walk-ins like me however the staff was so nice and welcoming and able to accommodate one table for me for 1.5hr. I had the fettuccine with lamb and it was delicious. Also they serve bread before your meal.

seriously some of the best italian food i've ever had. the service was also incredible. our waitress was very friendly and had a nice conversation with us. the restaurant is also located in a nice, tucked away area. it has a cosy atmosphere and provides just overall the perfect dining experience. at the end they even gave us a free shot! if you're visiting bath i'd highly recommend stopping here for dinner one night!

Food & service, restaurant setting and atmosphere was excellent- I would come back here again without thinking twice when visiting Bath. I had a beautiful birthday meal at Sotto Sotto. Also, massive shout-out to our amazing waiter Lakmal. The starter was Bruschetta ai gamberoni - marinated king prawns tossed with an infusion of Mediterranean flavours and fresh chilli on rustic Tuscan bread. My main meal was Fettucce al ragù d’agnello con fonduta di Pecorin - fettucce pasta with lamb ragout on a bed of Pecorino cheese fondue. Both were absolutely amazing and had such rich flavours. It's amazing what they did with such familiar ingredients. Highly recommend and plan to go back.

I visited Sotto Sotto around 5 years ago and it was excellent so I was excited to return! The food was delicious and it was vibing for a Tuesday night. Our waiter Lakmal was also excellent, very efficient without getting in the way of our conversation. Thank you for looking after us Lakmal.

Sotto Sotto has a stunning location and the food was as good as Martini's used to be. And that was good. But it has the air of a place that wants to turn over tables quickly to get the next diners in. Service was okay but not brilliant, and not what I'd expect from a restaurant of this standard. It's still worth a visit, but I'd like them to be less slick and rekindle their polish and style instead

On our family day trip to Bath from London, we did not know much about the restaurants. We found this restaurant very last minute and we were really satisfied with the food, atmosphere, staff. Special thanks to Lakmal, who took care of our table and made our experience even better.

We had a fantastic night here and the service was really great. The waitress gave us complimentary drinks at the end and even gave me a non-alcoholic version since she saw I hadn't been drinking. Incredibly thoughtful and had a great time, we're still talking about it a week later.

My family and I were lucky enough to dine at Sotto Sotto during our recent trip to Bath. The prawn bruschetta is OUT OF THIS WORLD DELICIOUS! We could have eaten just that as our main dish. All of the desserts were straight from heaven. We had the Pana Cotta, Raspberry Sorbet and the Tiramisu. Hands down the best desserts we have ever had at any Italian resturant including our trips to Italy. Lakmal was our waiter. He was extremly attentive and was always one step ahead of what we needed. I would recommend this resturant to anyone visiting Bath and make sure you request Lakmal. He will make sure your experience is like no other. Until next time! Cheers!

We've just been to Sotto Sotto for a wedding anniversary lunch. What a fabulous restaurant. It is a unique space that has an intimate beauty. We both had three courses. My wife had the mushrooms to start, and I had the Calamari. The mushrooms were incredible, full of flavour. The herbs used on the Calamari were amazing. I had the prawn linguine and my wife had a chicken dish with italian sausage. Both were full of flavour and really good portion sizes. Beautifully cooked, with quality fresh produce Our deserts were the Semifreddo and panacotta like the other courses. These were very tasty. The service throughout was exceptional. Both waiters were very attentive but weren't stood over you. All in all, we had an exceptional meal, with fabulous service in a unique venue.

We arrived on short notice but were still able to get a table. The food overall was good but a little disappointed with the lamb dish. Wine was good.

Basement level, steep stairs and a staff that wouldn’t allow for walk ins. There were plenty of open tables right at opening and we were dismissed. Don’t descend to a dark place that doesn’t take walk ins.

Not sure why it is so highly rated. Most traditional Italians feel a bit better. Food was adequate but was expecting great, atmosphere was muted with old chairs and wobbly table. Not what you would expect for a 5* restaurant.
