Had a lovely birthday dinner at Sotto Sotto! Our waiter Lucky was fantastic and the food was extremely delicious - would definitely recommend!

The atmosphere was beautiful, and we were treated with great respect from the moment we arrived. The food was served perfectly and tasted amazing—truly a memorable experience at this restaurant. We ordered the Fettuccine alla crema di zucca and Penne alla vodka, along with Calamari as a starter. Everything was excellent, especially Azeez's hospitality.

The service was so good that all of us enjoyed it so much and thanks to Lucky who is really friendly and kind.🥰🥰🥰

Impeccable service — every small request was handled with care and precision. We especially appreciated our waiter, Lucky. He did an amazing job remembering all our orders and getting everything just right! The food was also nice. We all liked the shrimp, which had a nice and firm texture. Everything was wonderful, though the food could be a bit less salty for our taste.

Stunning food, good service and amazing atmosphere.

This was the best meal I've had in a long time. Me and my boyfriend came for a birthday meal, and usually dining as a student couple in a fancier restaurant can make us feel a little out of place, but definitely not here. The staff were all incredibly kind while still being professional, and we immediately felt comfortable. The food was incredible. I'm celiac and can't eat gluten and our waiter was very accommodating; most allergies can be catered for as the food is made fresh. The pasta was incredibly flavoursome and the meat was tender. My boyfriend particularly enjoyed his tiramisu and the panna cotta was exceptional. We will most definitely be coming back.

Had an amazing dining experience here with a group of friends. Food was absolutely lovely, especially the prawn linguine. Excellent service from Lucky and all the staff, lucky even gave us a free complimentary drink! Would highly recommend this experience to those who like cozy ambience and great pasta.

Our first time visiting Bath and eating at Sotto Sotto was a huge highlight. Amazing restaurant. The food, location and service was top notch. We bought two starters, two mains, glass a white wine, a mocktail mojito, a dessert and two hot drinks which cost us £88 which I think is reasonable for the experience! Our server was called Lucky and he was incredibly polite and helpful. We would love to come back!

First time at Sotto Sotto this evening. We had a fantastic meal! The fillet steak was maybe the best steak I’ve had in England. Lucky served us and was an excellent waiter. Carlo also looked after us. Grazie mille ragazzi.

A Memorable Experience at Sotto Sotto We had an unforgettable dining experience at Sotto Sotto, made truly exceptional by the best wait staff we’ve encountered—especially our server, Azeez. Recently joining the team after completing university in Bath, Azeez brings a warmth and enthusiasm that instantly elevates the atmosphere. Originally from Sri Lanka, his genuine love for both Bath and Sotto Sotto shines through in every interaction. The food was equally impressive. The Salmon Risotto was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, while the Butternut Squash, Walnut, and Goat Cheese Bruschetta was a delightful blend of textures and tastes. We’d return again and again for the same stellar service and delicious food. Highly recommended!

Absolutely beautiful evening, the food was exceptional, the prawn starter and spinach side was simply some of the best food I’ve ever had. I like to leave a honest review and the tiramisu was nice but I have had better if I’m being honest. The service was impeccable and really made our meal and dining experience elite. Lucky, our personal waiter was worth his weight in gold, his attention to detail was insanely good and in my opinion he is a credit to the restaurant. The atmosphere was fun yet sophisticated and the restaurant had an authentic Italian feel to it. I’m unaware if this restaurant is accessible for disabled customers? There is a steep descending staircase that could prove difficult for some. However if you manage it you won’t be disappointed.

There’s a reason Sotto Sotto shows up as one of the top restaurants in every search. We felt taken care of the moment we walked through the door until we left. Wonderful service! The atmosphere is very inviting, since you’re basically in a cave-like setting. Quite intimate, really adds to the experience. The menu is uncomplicated, so each dish gets the focus it deserves. The menu highlight for everyone was easily the portobello alla griglia con caprino (portobello mushroom with goat cheese). Wow. For a starter it sure packed a punch, and it was all we could think of the entire rest of the evening. Also grab the bruschetta con zucca. The lamb ragout fettucce and penne alla vodka were very flavourful and went nicely with the spinaci al parmigiano. And don’t forget the pannacotta for dessert!

Such a perfect set up with such welcoming staff taking the time to get to know us and ask follow up questions about our day to start off the meal right! The food was heaven on a plate with portions that did not scrimp on size and a special mention to Gianluca who made our meal flow smoothly and was always there to help with any requests! Will be back!

Avoid this restaurant if you have a young family! I recently made a dinner reservation for 4 adults and when calling to confirm my booking mentioned we have a newborn baby and asked if it would be okay to keep the pram at the table. I was told that was not possible due to the size of the restaurant which I responded was fine as we could hold our baby during the meal. Hours before we were due to dine here the restaurant called me twice to say we could only come when they opened at 5pm otherwise they could not honor our original reservation due to space. This is completely unacceptable customer service. We were being courteous to inform the restaurant about our infant and were denied our booking as a result. We will gladly take our business and baby elsewhere that welcomes families.

The food here is definitely very good, the quality and flavours are all great. We ordered breaded cod to start (very fresh tasting). For mains we had Penne with mushroom & gorgonzola (excellent) and Linguine with prawns (delicious). We had sides of spinach (nice) and potatoes (addictive and perfect). The ambience and atmosphere is great and the service is attentive. In fact, just a note for them, the service is a bit TOO attentive and almost intrusive as we were constantly interrupted by various waiters checking on us, asking if we're enjoying our meal. They mean well, they're very polite, but maybe a little less attention would be nice 😊 This restaurant was recommended by local friends and the food is definitely very good. I would visit again.

Yeah - really disappointing. The food was bland, really not sure at all where the 5 star reviews are coming from (other than the waiters ask to you leave a review at the end, which is awkward and forced). Really wouldn't recommend, there's so many other places to eat in Bath I would give this a miss.

I have to say that this is the best Italian restaurant since I came to Bath. The unique cave bar design attracted me the first sight my friends and I walked into the door. All stuff there are quite welcoming and considerate, energetic as well, especially the gentleman Gianluca he is very friendly and patient, and knew exactly what customers are in need timely. Considering the cuisine, all we ordered had a lovely flavor, personally medium raw beef cooked with red wine are my favorite, the other three meals together are quite nice combination. I think for Guanluca and his colleagues, they take their job as a realistic art immersed in daily life, namely based on customers’ individual taste and vibe. And the dinning table is where they draw the marvelous works. In a word, it’s Definitely a must-go classic place to have dinner if you are going to travel in Bath!

We are at Sotto Sotto last Saturday evening, food was delicious and the service was top notch, our server called Lucky was very attentive. The place was relatively small inside and the tables were close together and all tables were full so it was a bit loud at times. Would certainly recommend to anyone in Bath looking for some good Italian food.

Had a fantastic experience tonight. I felt like I was given A lister 5 star service from the moment I walked in. We had a fantastic waiter called Lucky, best waiter I have ever met, all the staff were fantastic but he gets a special mention because I thought he was outstanding. We had a couple of chats with the owner who was a lovely guy, I felt like I was talking to a caring uncle and he was welcoming us to a family meals, I literally wanted to hug him when I left. We will be going back and I am looking forward to it already. Little note, if you are disabled there are a number of steps to get into the restaurant and I did struggle but it is a cellar restaurant so is to be expected and everyone coming in or out were very understanding about the extra time I needed to get up/down. Some parts could do with an extra handrail on other side if allowed to put one in.

At a rating of 4.8 stars, I would expect the food at Sotto Sotto to be exceptional. It is not. Perhaps being London based where there are plenty of good Italian restaurants means I'm being picky. Nonetheless my wife and I left underwhelmed and wondering what all the fuss is about.

Outstanding food and exemplary service! We absolutely loved Sotto Sotto. We were served by Lucky who did everything to ensure that we had the best experience, and each and every staff member made us feel welcome. The meal was delicious. The cod starter, pistachio crusted beef and chocolate mousse was perfectly prepared and presented. We will certainly be back!

We visited Sotto Sotto during our trip to Bath, and we were so glad we did. We had such a warm welcome and an attentive service. Lucky was our waiter, and he was very friendly and helpful. All staff made our time there enjoyable. The food was lovely, especially the prawn starter and salmon risotto. We were too full for pudding but would definitely recommend to others.

If you’re looking for a high quality meal with excellent service, food and staff, then visit this place. It’s hard to get a booking though, which I can only see as a positive, but they did accommodate an earlier slot than our original 21:30 booking. This isn’t a casual pizza type place, but 10/10 quality Italian dishes in a quirky, but beautiful setting. The initial cocktails we had tasted great, as did our starters and mains. We finished it off with a limoncello and almond biscuit as the food portions were very generous, so we skipped dessert. Lucky was the name of our waiter, and he was on the ball. I thought considering we had a starter, cocktails, 2 glasses of wine and a champagne, 2 mains and 2 sides with some limoncellos, the sum of £135 was excellent value for money. Couldn’t fault this place in the slightest and would definitely come here again.

We were looking forward to visit this restaurant after watching their good reviews over the last years since it opened. Unfortunately our food experience was less great. Atmosphere in this cellar restaurant and service were superb as described in previous reviews. We all had the Bruschetta as Starters. None of us were particularly overwhelmed by them to be honest. Ok, that might be a matter of taste. However, 3 out of 4 of the Pasta dishes we had after were over salted. As mains we had fish and steak: The sirloin was very tasty. The Beef Fillet war exquisitely tender but for some reason a topping with mustard was added which spoiled it for me (again might be my personal taste). The 2 fish dishes were rather bland and nothing special unfortunately.

Excellent . Best Italian we have eaten in outside of Italy. Restaurant is in a old charcoal oven. Lucky our waiter was fabulous, just like the lamb ragu . Definitely will return next time in Bath

My partner reserved Sotto Sotto for us 2 months in advance. Worth the wait. Exceptional food throughout our 3 courses. The lamb ragu to start was faultless. The fillet of beef with pistachio crumb (photo’d) was cooked to perfection and tasted even better. A personal note to Julian who was looking after us. Attentive, informative and professional. He also made a point of giving my partner an alcohol free shot at the end of our meal as he noticed she wasn’t drinking alcohol. A very classy touch. I would take the king here. We will be back.

Reservation system, needs a few weeks or months in advance. Pasta was amazing. The desserts, tiramisu and mousse were too sweet/sickly.

This place is ranked number one restaurant in Bath for a very good reason!! Absolutely superb atmosphere, service, and outstanding food. I would definitely recommend booking well in advance, which can be done easily online. Beautiful, unique location, very central to Bath so easily walkable if your stopping in the city centre. The standard and quality of service makes this place truly memorable and has made us keen to return on our next visit to Bath in the summer. The food was fresh, high quality, and cooked to perfection. Exceptional is the best word!!

I recently celebrated someone’s birthday at Sotto Sotto in Bath, and it was absolutely fantastic! This was my second time visiting, and once again, I was really impressed with everything. It truly feels like you’ve been transported to an authentic Italian restaurant. The atmosphere, the food, and the whole vibe made us feel like we were dining in Italy. The food was amazing. Every dish was full of flavor, and you can really tell it’s made with the best ingredients. The pasta was delicious, the sauces were perfect, and the sparkling wine was spot on. It’s clear that everything is prepared with love and care to give you that true Italian experience. The service was also top-notch. The waiter "Lucky" was very kind and had an Italian spirit, he was so friendly and really made us feel special. He knew the menu well and gave great recommendations, which made the meal even better. One thing to keep in mind is that you’ll need a reservation, as they can only accommodate a small number of people at a time due to space I believe.?! (max 5 per reservation if you go in a group). But it’s worth it for the intimate, personal experience you get. What really stood out to me, though, was the attention to detail. At the end of our night, the staff even helped us get our coats on, which I thought was such a nice and rare touch — especially in restaurants in the UK! It’s the little things like this that really make you feel valued as a guest. It definitely made me feel like I was in an authentic Italian restaurant. The prices were also very reasonable, especially considering the quality of food and service. For what you get, it’s definitely good value. At the end of our meal, they even treated us to a complimentary shot, something like limoncello, which was a lovely touch and a great way to finish off the night. Overall, if you’re looking for a cozy, authentic Italian place in Bath, I highly recommend Sotto Sotto. It’s definitely a spot I’ll keep coming back to!

Would of loved to have sat in the area with the stone, but aside from that, the food was delicious, the service was polite and efficient and we left very happy.

Last time I went , the waiter was more like a sales rep.so pushy and destroyed our dining experience. Won't be going back.
