Fabulous portion size, good prices, friendly service. Still great food, lots of variety beyond the straight fish and chips.

How this place got almost 5 stars is beyond me... On holiday in North Devon and used googled reviews to pick somewhere to grab a quick dinner after a long drive. Two battered sausages and a chips. One battered sausage had 90% of the batter missing and the chips were honestly the worst I've ever had. Very powdery and stale. All went in the bin, very disappointed.

Delicious fish & chips, enormous portion of chips

We’ve ordered chicken kebabs and it was the worst decision we’ve made. The chicken was tasteless, no flavour to it whatsoever. It wasn’t proper kebab meat just chicken thighs chopped up with soggy pita bread and lettuce. It’s cash only which they’re failed to mention over the phone when they took the order!

Don't usually leave reviews but what a fantastic chippy. Portions were huge, enough for two meals. The biggest fish we've ever had too. Helpful pleasant staff. Highly recommended.

I particularly enjoy their egg burger! The food portions are large and very good quality, the staff are friendly, polite and offer great customer service Definitely got yourself a regular customer for life

I recently had the pleasure of trying Sonia's chips and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised! These chips are absolutely incredible. They remind me of how fish and chips used to be served - authentic and delicious. The taste is impeccable and the portions are massive. A large chips is enough to feed my entire family, which is amazing. The price for a large chips is only £3.50, which is a steal. The service is always friendly and welcoming, and the environment is clean. Sure, the décor may be a bit outdated, but it's certainly not a deal-breaker. Overall, I highly recommend Sonia's chips to anyone who is looking for a great meal at a fantastic price. You won't be disappointed!

This place is fab! Genuinely massive portion sizes for the small price you'll pay and copious amounts of cheese on the cheesy chips (as it should be).

Sonics is well known in the area... Great food at a good price and the portions are very good you eont be disappointed. In my opinion best fish and chips in barnstaple

I'm giving this a 5 star review on what I've had (Unfortunately it's only chips). As far as chips go they were piping hot, the oil seemed fresh and the portion was huge. I'm a massive eater and bout 2 large chips for 2 adults and 2 teenagers to share. We didn't even open the second portion.

Lovely food. Massive portions too. Small chips is about the same size as about 3 portions of chips anywhere else. A small bit of fish is about the same size as a large cod in most places too. Definitely value for money.

Massive portions, always freshly cooked with fresh ingredients. 1 large chips is enough for 3 people!! Plus the kebabs are awesome is the fish.

I was absolutely flabbergasted by the beautiful service I received when coming today. I ordered a small portion of fish and chips which was delivered swiftly, with the highest of quality I have ever tasted, which to my surprise was also of great value. Portion sizes were generous. BEST FISH AND CHIPS EVER!!!

Good value and large portions. The photo is a small chips with large battered sausage! Not the very best chips I've had, but certainly good enough to recommend to others, and would certainly have them again. Was able to go straight in, make my order, and take it away within 5 minutes, and none of this taking your order outside and making you wait in the wind or rain like others in the area seem to do. Wish I'd found this at the start of my recent holiday in the area, instead of ending up at the more expensive and less value for money Pelican! They don't seem to come up easily on internet searches for chippys in the area (unless you know they exist in the first place), so only found it on the last night of the trip unfortunately. Glad I found them in the end though!

The Sonia burger is by far the best burger in town. The chips are good and portion sizes are epic. Love Sonias and will always get my chips from there.

The best tasting and quality fish and chips and kebabs in barnstaple. The portions are at least double the size (the chips about 4 times the size) of everywhere else and cost a lot less.
