The Brasserie At The Carlton in North Devon

Our second stay at this amazing hotel. Decorated to a high standard with perfect taste. The bedroom we had was a Queen, it was beautiful and we had the best nights sleep we’ve had in a long time. Plenty of nooks and cranny’s for some quiet time. A gym too, which we didn’t use but good to know! The food was perfect and locally sourced. Also nice to over hear others at breakfast saying how the food and hotel was amazing too. Dog friendly. We don’t have dogs but it’s so lovely to be in a family run business where guests are welcome to bring their pets, making it a home from home. The surrounding area is lovely and picturesque with the entrance to the Tunnel Beaches right near to the hotel and five minute walk to the harbour. Can’t wait for our next visit.

Although it’s not in a particularly beautiful location and certainly doesn’t have a view of any note, the Carlton is a quality destination. The service was excellent, very attentive, but not intrusive and the food matched the service. We both opted for the Sunday roast, 2 very tasty courses and good value. We will go back, but next time in the evening as we think there may be a better, livelier atmosphere.

We held our Ruby Wedding Anniversary celebration here, with extended family. There were 18 of us and were in the Burlesque room. We had a lovely evening, the food was excellent and the staff were attentive and friendly.

We stayed for at the Carlton and had breakfast every morning of our 4 night trip - every breakfast was of excellent quality and quickly served. My partner stuck with a full English, I tried smashed avocado on toast, full English, salmon and scrambled eggs and eggs Benedict. The best poached eggs I’ve ever had, they were so good I couldn’t eaten them for every meal. Unfortunately we did not eat lunch or dinner, but we definitely eat here for lunch/dinner if we visit Ilfracombe again.

We had a lovely Sunday roast which was excellent quality and very reasonably priced. The service from Attila and Jake was great and our dogs enjoyed their treats. I would definitely recommend and will visit again.

We had been at a wedding Saturday night and needed a Sunday roast for recovery! We all agreed it was the best Sunday roast we have had when eating out and desserts to die for. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. We also had our dog who received a lot of attention too. 10/10 would highly recommend!!

Just returned from a coach holiday. Can't fault anything about the hotel, my single room was lovely. Staff exceptional, good choice of food and the weather was kind to us!

Lovely hotel close to the center, right next to the entrance to Tunnels Beaches. The rooms are spacious, well equipped and very clean. The gym is very small but very well equipped. The restaurant offers varied dishes and an excellent breakfast. But above all: the staff is incredibly kind! Truly at the service of its customers, attentive to families but also to the elderly or disabled. Thanks again !

Stayed here for 6 nights for a work trip. The location was great. The staff were helpful and accommodating. The other guests were all nice and it was reasonably quiet. The rooms were clean. My mini fridge was malfunctioning but staff were helpful in overcoming this issue.

What an amazing place to stay in illfarcombe the standard is very high in all areas 5 ⭐️ the staff are so friendly and welcoming 5⭐️expect a great breakfast and the evening meals are first class (locally sourced) , Micheal is the boss and greets you with a warm smile he goes out of his way to make your stay the best . We could not find a restaurant without pizza, fish and chips, fastfood etc. But the brasserie at the Carlton was very different. The food was very good. The thai fishcake and the rendang was like from a Asian chef. But they told me that the chef is British. I was surprised. Compliments!!! Only the interior of the restaurant needs to be done. A bit old.

We have just had a three night stay at The Carlton Hotel Ilfracombe .It was an excellent stay and we can highly recommend The Carlton.Beautiful rooms very well cared for .Lovely staff and management who always had time for you .The whole Hotel was excellently well maintained and spotless.Food wonderful and the service we had was VERY GOOD.Thank you to all the Staff.

Booked a table for 10 for Sunday Lunch. Service was excellent. Food excellent. Both wines we wanted not available due to wedding the night before, however responded by giving us money off drinks bill. All food well plated and full of flavour and homemade. Very clean and well run hotel. Of particular note is the food which is of exceptional quality for a mid range hotel. Staff were, without exception, very helpful. I would be happy to return.

Five adults visited for an evening meal on my birthday. As usual the food was fantastic. We had 3 courses each and all were hot,beautifully cooked,fresh,locally sourced and beautifully presented. Two of the men had venison and were very impressed. Our night was made extra special by our waiter Micheal who was so patient with the oldies,who are a bit full on, and was helpful and just a really welcoming,nice guy. He is definitely an asset to the hotel. We were treated to a cocktail specially made by him for my birthday and we left feeling really happy. All in all a very positive experience,thankyou to all.

A really great hotel with great, friendly staff like Kelsey and Dave ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Everyone else too, of course, but I don't know their names. The room was completely sufficient for me and was equipped with a TV, kettle, coffee, tea and water in the fridge. The breakfast (full English breakfast) was very tasty. I enjoyed dinner every evening. What a great cook! Free parking in front of the house and a lift are available. The location is very good, close to the port. Good location near the sea, comfortable dining area just off the lobby at the hotel. Quiet but we were visiting in the off-season so suspect would be much busier in peak season. Dog friendly and very attentive staff. Very good selection of food and wine. I had Scotch Egg to start with the Seabass in chorizo and red wine sauce for main, my husband started with the Thai Fishcakes and then had the Venison for his main. We finished off by having a cheeseboard and the pavlova for desert. Overall a very enjoyable meal, would recommend.

Our stay at The Ilfracombe Carlton Hotel was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we arrived, the warmth and friendliness of the staff made us feel right at home. They were attentive, accommodating, and always went the extra mile to ensure our visit was a great one. The food was a highlight of our stay, with each meal surpassing the last in both quality and flavour. The chef, Elliot, clearly takes great pride in his work, offering a wonderful dinner and breakfast menu, great local produce. The hotel itself boasts a cozy, quirky, welcoming atmosphere, simply charming. Our room provided the perfect haven for relaxation after a day of exploring Ilfracombe. I cannot recommend The Ilfracombe Carlton Hotel enough - it truly is a gem that made our visit unforgettable. Five stars all the way! 😀😀

We had a wonderful experience, greeted by Dawn our waitress who was very friendly intensive explained the menu and asked if there were special dietary requirements. She asked the head chef Eliot to come to discuss our requirements, what a nice friendly Man with a good sense of humour. The food was absolutely fantastic of very high quality, more like a high quality 3/4Star Michelin restaurant, but hotel prices. Thank you to the staff and owners of Brassier restaurant for such an experience.

I ordered a celebration tea from the deli and both co-owners were incredibly helpful at ensuring it was perfect for my family member's birthday - I tweaked one of the items in the menu and nothing was too much trouble. We have dined today as a family of 6 with ages ranging from 10-81. We left it late to book as we are currently holidaying in Ilfracombe. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by the lovely Dawn. Our food was exceptional too every course was tasty and plentiful. This was the first roast dinner myself and my husband had eaten on a Sunday in many years (we own a restaurant ourselves). However I can honestly say this did not disappoint, the level of service throughout the meal was great too, Dawn even had a good laugh and a joke with us all too. I’m cautious of leaving tripadvisor reviews as sometimes reviews aren’t accurate having experienced this first hand but I feel it important to leave this one as we all had such a lovely meal. We ate at the Carlton Brasserie this week during our stay at the hotel. The Breakfast menu had a wide choice of cooked dishes, the Smashed Avocado and Poached Egg on Sourdough with Chilli was superb! The full English got the thumbs up from my husband. There is also a Continental Breakfast option too. The Dinner menu didn't disappoint and the food was well cooked and tasty. Would definitely recommend.

Booked a surprise cream tea for my Mother’s birthday. it was outstanding ! Micheal was so lovely and made my mum feel very special with a candle in a birthday cake. Super fresh sandwiches, divine freshly made meringue, delicious lemon mouse and so much more .. They even provided boxes for us to take the left overs in. Thank you The hotel itself looked nice as well so will try staying here next time we are here.

Booked for Sunday lunch at the brasserie today. Food and service were excellent. I had roast beef and my husband had the venison. Both served with well cooked vegetables and plenty of them. Dawn and Jake were both attentive but not intrusive, very friendly and happy. An extremely pleasant meal, thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Hotel looks as if it has been recently and very well refurbished.

we went to the carlton hotel for sunday carvery it was the best we have ever had great meal excellent service there were 20 of us and the table was laid out lovely , yorkshire pudding was hugh and lovely definatley 5 xplus

We had a lovely afternoon tea here for my husbands birthday. Beautiful sandwiches and cakes - far too much for us to finish, had to have the rest boxed up! Michael, our waiter was brilliant and kept us topped up with tea!! Very reasonable price too. Recommended.

We booked the Carlton for my parents 40th wedding anniversary and we were not dissapointed. The decor is wonderful, the staff were friendly and efficient and the food was amazing. I highly recommend for any event. There were 19 of us and everyone left completely satisfied. I will be using the Carlton again and look forward to seeing what else they have on the menu.

We came here for an afternoon tea. It was a late Mother’s Day get together for myself and 5 other guests. From the moment we arrived a lovely gentleman greeted us(the owner I assume ) and offered to take our coats and directed us to our table. We swiftly were given some jugs of iced water. Following was some lovely presented sandwiches and cakes with plenty of English tea to accompany. The server was super friendly and made us feel very relaxed and checked on us regularly without imposing on our time in there. Our favourite of the whole afternoon tea and was a hit especially for my mum as it’s her favourite was some delicious meringues with lovely fresh fruit. It all was pleasing to the eye and the taste of everything did not disappoint. As a cleaner my self I noticed how immaculate the whole place was. I’m a sucker for polished chrome and the toilets were gleaming. I’ve visited the brassiere on a few occasions now. For weddings, Sunday roast, dinner of an evening and now the afternoon tea. On behalf of my group we would all highly recommend for any of the above. If you want homemade high quality food at a reasonable price with great service you would not be disappointed. Thank you all. We are regular visitors to the Carlton. Why? Because the food is excellent, the staff are attentive and we are always made to feel welcome. We were served by Kelsey and Owen on our last visit a few days ago who are simply the best. Kelsey especially who always remembers what we like to drink, how we like our food prepared and always has a smile and a welcome second to none. The best eatery in Ilfracombe without a doubt!

The Brasserie at the Carlton is one of the best places to eat in Ilfracombe. A street behind the main routes it might not be the most visible, but well worth seeking out. Make sure to make a booking as they do get busy. As for the food - amazing. Generally French-style cuisine, but with a high-end take on British classics as well as a few spicier dishes also on the menu. Mussels, scotch egg for starter and duck leg or the fish for main is favourite over here :) Service brilliant and a great wine menu also.
